I think the Vikings will release Harrison Smith soon, and let Hunter walk as well. According to Spotrac, releasing Hitman, saves the team almost $11.4M against the cap.
He could lower his cap hit/salary for another year if Flores feels he is needed.
Just read this morning about a glut of Safetys on the market this offseason. So it not as if he is going to get a better deal elsewhere.

Yeah Monday will be the “show your cards” day for KAM.
He might re-sign Hunter, but I just think he’s on the verge of throwing the towel in for 2024.
Yup, should be a busy weekend for the ‘gossip mongers”/tea leave readers’ and of course more cuts/re-signings/etc across the league as teams get ready for free agency.
Once signing period is under way we can see what ‘gems’ KAM can pick up this year. Then we can see what is needed in the draft, I expect it will still be trenches and defense but maybe a big signing or two might alter it slightly.
KAM’s “M.O.” in free agency has been to hold back and wait the first few weeks, to let the dust settle as it were. He never makes a move on the first day (when prices are high). He waits till players go un-signed for a while (like Risner) and tries to sign them cheap. For some reason, he went all in on Davenport last year, which was maybe the dumbest move of the offseason.
The Couch was good for the minute he played, but expensive.
I guess it is like hiring a high priced ‘escort’ and only getting a ‘minutes worth’ for all the money you spent.

I was there about 13 years ago for some work training. Didn’t see town most of the time but did make it to Fort Sumnter and the aquarium. I only managed to hold one scramble last summer and hit at a simulator about a month ago. I better hit the range before this trip. I don’t think these are going to be people I want to embarrass myself in front of. I think the golf is at Charleston National. Looks pretty nice and definitely different than the sage brush we have.
Well I hope you have a good day on the course, and great time. All I can advise is to try and be relaxed, swing in rhythm, and focus on your target. Other than that, grip it and rip it.

I like Kirk more than most here, i just want a resolution.
It was resolved last June though. KAM made it clear he wasn’t guaranteeing Cousins anything beyond 2024 here. The writing was on the wall the whole time.
I’d like KC back on 2-3 years on a somewhat team friendly deal and draft a qb at 11 perhaps. However, what i want rarely happens, including voting.
I think most reasonable people would agree that would be best for the Vikings. Just not in the cards.
There was a pundit somewhere who said he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Cousins signed a 2 year $100M fully guaranteed contract. I seriously doubt he’ll sign for anywhere near that number.

I would give him a guarantee and NTC to groom JJ/Daniels/Nix/whomever.
I have heard/read that we can’t pay more than $40M a year, $14M of it is already sunk cost cap-wise.
Let him play in ’24 and groom the Jr, then in ’25 we see how he is health wise, how the kid is developing and ease him out.
If he wants more playing time after we see the youngster is playing well enough he can waive his NTC to get it.

Went to the Tax Preparer last night and She gave her TP spreadsheet after spreadsheet of info all ready figured out/organized/tabulated/added up.
TP just had to take the numbers, plug them into her worksheets and ask a few clarifying questions. 30m later we were walking out.
The Teacher spent way more time organizing things than the TP did. I figure she could do the rest as easily but she wants the assurance of having a professional on the ‘blame-line’.
I get the butt-covering part. I would feel better about that as well, but we went to an accountant together for a few years, and he always said that her records were above and beyond anything any of his other clients turn in, so if we get audited, she should have it covered…
It gets way more complicated next year.

Yep, I just haven’t seen the light for how exciting baseball is to watch on TV.
Try this. Pick the Twins, watch a few games, get to know the players, their habits, their personalities and focus on just them, the Twins. Dont worry about any other team or players. Pick a favorite hitter, pick a favorite fielder (could be same player) and pick a favorite pitcher and watch them do their job. Once you understand the nuance to it, and the personalities and the personal 1 on 1 battles that is baseball, it gets more interesting. I think you are disinterested because you dont know the players, their positions, their roles ,etc so it all looks repetitive and boring. When in reality there is more going on in a baseball game then there is in hockey. Hockey there is constant movement just to maybe score a few goals. Thats it, lot of movement for no pay off. ( the fights are fun ill give you that). In baseball every pitch holds a lot of weight, tension and release. Give that a go.
Sounds like a lot of work to make something more exciting than it is when you can just watch hockey and when hockey season is over go to the mountains.
Oh and there isn’t time to sit and watch four hours of that every other day in the summer. I’ll stick to mountains for the weekend and listen to the race on the way home.
First of all, again, hockey is just as if not more boring. Just because theres movement, doesnt make it exciting unless you have ooogabooga brain. And its not a lot of work, at all. Also you do realize the MLB has made changes that have reduced the average game time dramatically. The average MLB game is now about 2.5 hrs. Thats nothing. The average NFL game is 3 hrs and 12 minutes. The average NHL game is 2.5 hrs. “The game is too long” is a bs excuse.
You’re right – baseball is a great game. but there is a lot of nuance to it that requires a certain amount of knowledge to fully appreciate it. Still think they can make it a tad faster some but have made big progress.
I liked that they made the basses bigger as well, increase some scoring, also no shifts so singles and doubles are up, more action on the bases, more scoring, more fun. There is nuance, I played it from age 5 to 16 so I can appreciate how hard it is while being fun when you do happen to make a catch or get a hit. Ill never have that with Hockey so maybe thats my bias.
My bias – for all the places on earth in my life, I’ve spent more time on a baseball field than any place else.

And at playoff time, lot of tension on every pitch.
Agreed. Its exciting, the cat and mouse game. Runners on, late in game, down a run or two, good hitter up against a good pitcher…you dont get that in hockey. Unless its a shoot out I guess but those are somewhat rare.
Playoff BB can be exciting, the rest ‘not so much’.

I was able to get my two draft favs in round 1 & 2. The 108 is an 320 lb OG with a RAS of 9.98. At 109, CB has a RAS of 9.97. 130, 156 and 166 are big solid defensive thumpers. Finally the OC is 317 lbs from a top program, highest rated player left and a position of need.

From my snooping around, last tidbit I found interesting. Some guy posted something like this.
Two of the top four FA’s on the market are Vikings. Our QB who is top 10 and our second best offensive player ( perhaps most important) and our best defensive player. How can a well run. team get in to this position?
Now, I don’t know jack about the QM stuff, but in the business world, if something like this happened, heads would roll. There are retirement plans, succession plans, contingency plans etc.
Doesn’t seem like this should happen to a well run team, but I’m a novice at this.
I’m sure there is a plan in place and they didn’t get to this point by accident. Its clear they are not giving long term extensions to old players and are looking invest in younger guys. Now whether that plan works out is a hole other thing.
I guess, but still seems strange for one team to have two premier players in the top four positions of the FA market.
Its not totally unheard of, heck a couple years ago the Jets had to premier players at Dline going into free agency the same year. I suppose they could have tried to trade Hunter last offseason, but its not ideal for both to be FA the same year.

Just looking at it from the business world. And in that world you MUST have a plan, and just as importantly, the plan must be profitable in the short run as well as providing means for the long run. You don’t survive. the short run, there is no long run.
And really you aren’t planning well, if you are in a position where ‘things just happen.’
But again, that’s business world.
In the business world, your only cap is you r profit margin. So, as long as the business is making a profit you can pay your employees whatever you want.
The NFL has a cap to try and make small market teams as competitive as large market teams. Of all of the sports I think the NFL salary cap is one of the best.
Well, it is profit margin, but also stock price maintenance, market share, larger term objectives, reserve requirements, etc. So there are a lot of limiting and controlling factors that keep you in sort of a “management box.” And everyone in the same industry has to a large degree similar factors to deal with – little like football.
I’d rather have 53 average players than 2 superstars and pond scum.

Grocery stores around here have them year round, I remember when I was a kid and worked in a grocery store we had frozen ones year round, but fresh only around the holidays.
Which grocery store? We’ve had good luck down here with HyVee sheet cakes for birthdays or parties.
I don’t know what store they got it from, but it is dry, and the frosting is so sweet I wonder if they made it by mixing powdered sugar and maple syrup.

Down here, the cakes from Publix grocery stores are pretty good.
I heard a new cake recipe to try yesterday. Three ingredient M&M cake.
Mix two eggs into a bowl full of M&Ms (about the amount in a larger personal-sized bag). Beat until combined.
Next, pour in the cake mix. The standard white mix is best here, but you can really use any flavor you want.
Combine everything and transfer it to a small cake pan.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Once it’s preheated, let the cake bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until it hardens.

My Subaru’s electrical system is shot. It eats batteries and no one can figure out why. It has now turned itself into a hybrid in that I have to plug it in every night before I go to bed (it has a new battery tender).
That happened to my old Mercedes 300D. Man I loved that beast but could never track down that issue.
