- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
That pic of Harry is awesome.
Boy, this place is as dead as twins batting.
Dead as your takes
Ouch. Go Twins. Go Mild. Ok, Wolves should win.
Az wants both 1’s and 2025 1st? F them.
I’ll take Penix later and best defender available early in that case…
Me too, lets not pull a Denver this year.
Correct
I’d throw in Jefferson as well, might be good to have some goodwill with the Cards going forward.
Yep, all for a bust QB.
As I am a believer in the Socratic method, tomorrow I would like for Benjammin to give a brief review of the hankie code, and to ensure he has a working understanding of it, to suggest and defend a thesis of which color handkerchief and in which pocket it is placed would be the most lucrative at a truck stop. Lucrative might mean most pleasurable or most remunerative. So there are options to consider such as time to recuperation and number of potential customers on any give Sunday.
I don’t think I want to know.
Am I allowed to opt out of reading that review??
I prefer to read that as ‘Yes you know’ you can opt out.
Solar Eclipse in Green Bay apparently…
it was a disgusting eclipse!
I find it bootyful!
I had my picture taken with that goal post.
Were you ‘mooning’ it??
it’s weird you were licking it, though
I’m glad someone noticed that!
Usually, people just focus on my thong in the picture…
The last 4 regular season games for the T’wolves are going to be huge.
Last game against Nuggies will decide the conference.
I think we have to win out. OKC has a soft schedule to end the season.
Wehave tie breaker with nuggets, right?
I’m not sure we would if we lose to them. We would be 2-2 and it would come down to other tie breakers.
Head to head i think, forgot next. just win baby. EARN IT!
If we finish tied with anyone we win the #1 seed.
Agreed.
Sounds like KAT coming back, sure limited minutes but depth.
Round 1 exit.
Book it
Prob, thank God we have the Twins.
Pukers pushing the NFL for Brazil so as not to give up a home game at lamblow?
I hate going to the dentist and having Novocain mouth afterward. I have a donut to eat, and it is just chewing on bitter mush.
In some ways, I envy you. You see, since I embarked on this journey into a second career I have injected various local and deep anesthetics thousands of times and tell patients the same spiel, some variant of you’ll feel a sting from the needle, now a burn like a bee sting that will gradually go numb, then some deeper burning, etc…
Sometimes they ask me, like at the dentist? I reply yeah similar to the dentist.
The problem is that it has been many decades since I had dental anesthesia, which is also the only area of my body I have had any anesthesia…so I really do not have any idea what the process of getting a local feels like, nor do I know if I do a terrible, average, or excellent job.
If you were here I would have you come in and I would numb up your index finger and you could compare and contrast.
I have had good and terrible dental locals. My size might be a factor.
Like I read about Richard Keil, who played Jaws on the Bond films, when he went to the dentists, they basically couldn’t shoot him up with enough Novocain to deaden the pain. He, like, absorbed it all.
I known one time they shot me up with four injections before I got any numbness happening.
Yet, other times, it worked pretty well.
I don’t remember the last time I have had a local on a body part. Probably when I got stitches on my scalp in about 30 years ago!
My toofs are pretty healthy. When I look at my dental x-rays, my teeth are uber sclerotic, probably overdosed on fluoride as a child.
That reminds me. I was thinking about reading the fluoride conspiracy stuff the other day and forgot!
Lincoln allegedly has one of the highest fluoride contents in the United States. Don’t know if that’s true or not – but I’ve heard conspiracy theories claiming had the Nazi’s won WWII, Lincoln, Nebraska was Hitler’s choice for his base of operations in the US. I’ve heard that theory more than once in the 25 years I’ve lived here.
Is it the fluoride, or is it because y’all a bunch of Jew hating white supremacists?
Haha
I’m neither a white supremacist nor do I hate Jews.
But the fluoride theory for Lincoln I’ve heard more than once.
^^^Something a jew hating white supremacist would say^^^
Are not Jews White?
I struggle to keep up with the identity politics.
I don’t think it is a requirement, but then again I am no $^&^@ing Jew.*
*Something an antisemite might say.
That should be a pretty readily testable or showable theory. The fluoride levels in the water should be public information.
I’ve never looked into it. I remember swishing with fluoride as a kid in grade school. I’ve always chocked it up to nutjobbery….
You say Richard Kiel and I’ll show you the avatar I use on my phone for my buddy John’s contact info….
Ah, good old Richard. Great picture!
My favorite role of his will always be Samson in ‘The Longest Yard’
Mine is Mr. Larson from Happy Gilmore
Also a great role.
Was good in Bond movie Moonraker.
Yeah, Christopher McDonalds best role ever too was Happy Gilmore, though my favorite of his was probably the infomercial guy on Requiem For A Dream, but he was also great in *61 and Quiz Show. He is apparently super cool to fans who recognize him as Shooter and will be a dick like Shooter when they approach him, then be super nice.
His X account is pretty fun. Seems like a pretty cool dude.
The most painful shot I’ve ever gotten was during a root canal. They do the novocain like a normal filling, grind down to the nerve area, then they put a needle directly into the nerve that is about 5 seconds of the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. After that it was no pain, though it didn’t hurt, it was an incredibly weird sensation when they jam the corkscrew thing in to rip out the pulp.
Root canals can be a pain, yes, especially at certain stages.
At college I got an abscessed tooth, and that was the worst pain I have ever experienced. The pressure was insane. At one point, I had pus leaking out of my gums.
Of course the worst of it hit when I was working a 16 hour day in 100 degree heat out in the middle of nowhere..
When I finally got to the dentist, the root canal felt AMAZING. That release of pressure was otherworldly.
Think of how it was a couple of hundred years ago. You’d take some shots of whisky and then bite down on a rock until you fractured the tooth to relieve the pain of the abscess…or if you had a friend let them go to work with a set of rusty pliers.
Back when men. were men and women didn’t want to be one.
That is just plain nuts. I had never heard about that rock solution before, but I guess it makes sense.
Man, the biting would be excruciating.
I think I’d choose the pliers method.
After the fracture they’d bring in the leeches to suck out the infection, like Theodoric Of York used to do
Here’s the video
That is freaking awesome! Love it.
I thought you might enjoy a clip of your gouger ancestors
They say 50% of what you learn in medical school is wrong. The problem is you don’t know which 50%.
Was visiting with a doc yesterday. Paget disease is virtually unknown anymore…but epidural infection and discitis are rampant. That has changed just in the 20 odd years of my career. Weird.
I’ve related the story before.
I had my four unerupted wisdom teeth pulled under local anesthesia and a whiff of Valium on a Friday when I was 19. I fasted overnight, went to class in the morning, skipped afternoon class, went to the dentist and sat through him struggling to break them and pull them out for an hour or so. A buddy escorted me home, when I got home he said the dentist told him to make sure I took an antibiotic pill and a pain pill. I refused the pain pill cuz I was going to a Student Union meeting (I was a rep) and had the hots for a gal on Student Council, and thought I might start babbling incoherently about my unrequited love. Well I’m sure I looked impressive with swollen cheeks and as the local wore off I darn near wanted to start crying. I don’t think I said a word to the gal or to anyone at the meeting, for that matter.
My dad picked me up that evening to drive me the two hours home to recuperate. I was STARVING and in probably the worst pain of my life, but both the antibiotic and narcotic bottles said to take with food so we stopped at, of all places, McDonalds and I got, of all things, a friggin Big Mac. I was so hungry that thing was delicious, but I couldn’t chew cuz the swelling was so bad so just let it soften in my mouth until I could swallow.
Only when I got home did I read the discharge instructions and it said no solid food for 24 hours (risk of infection). Well duh.
Ahhh the bern
Interesting story. I had my unerupted WT taken out my senior year during christmas break. I went in the morning right away at 7am, my mom picked me up after the procedure and I took a pain pill right away and slept until the evening. I then drove 8 hours overnight to visit my sister, who was in college in Marshall, MN. Once I got there I took another pain pill and slept until the evening. When I woke I ate soup then went down to the bar where she worked and got drunk (the bar was not doing so well and was happy to take my money despite being 18), not on beer of course as I didn’t want to get a yeast infection, so I drank cocktails. I did the same for the next couple days then went back home. Fun times. Also, as usual your post is…
So you ignored the “warnings” about eating and drinking from the Dentist?
Donuts don’t count. They are basically sugared air, is my excuse.
Plain, glazed donuts are ‘sugared air’ in my opinion.
The Teacher and I disagree and she has to get some cake and fritter types for me when she picks up some for work and home.
I am not a fan of frosting which is nice.
Yep, back in running days, six fresh, hot KrispyKremes with a hot cup of coffee was great.
do you even have teeth left?
sure, that’s why I limited the number to six.
LOL
If I ate 6 Krispy Kreme donuts now I’d be asleep for the next 6 hours….
They really are a lot of air (and sugar of course).
Back in Ft Hood I would get up on Sunday, run 8-10 miles, stop at a store pick up some pastries/doughnuts and a big Sunday paper, go home, shower, make a pot of coffee and eat, drink and read for a few hours.
Really good after a long run!
I had a little backpack I would take on my run with keys, ID and some money. Stop at a store about 1/2 mile from the house put food/paper in the backpack and do a cool down jog home.
I’m not much of a donut fan, but if I do have one I prefer a long john with cream cheese frosting filling
That is a good choice.
I like custard filling. I don’t like the jelly-type fillings.
Kwiktrip had a pretty good custard bismarck a couple summers ago that had a s’more topping. It was a bit too sweet, but it had the right idea.
I really like the Dunkin Donut apple spice donut. That is maybe my favorite. They never have it when I am around a Dunkin Donut, though.
Correct, the jelly type or pudding fillings are bullshit. When I lived in CO there was this place called red’s dogs and donuts that had this maple frosted long john with bacon bits on top, it was probably the best I’ve ever had.
There’s a place in Beatrice, Nebraska – about 30 miles south of Lincoln – called Sunrise Bakery. Have to call ahead to order them but they also make a maple frosted longjohn with bacon on it. They’re amazing.
Next time (who knows with the stupid new scheduling) the Gophers play in Lincoln I will definitely check it out.
You’re close to Spirit Lake, have you ever tried Spudnuts donuts. They are made with potato flour and are delicious.
Yep, I have gone to Spudnuts. They are good, yes!
Can confirm.
I hope and assume there are potential deals in place.
Based on contingencies I suspect that there are at least frameworks and basics worked out.
I’m sure they have deals in place with AZ if their guy is their at #4 and LA if their guy is there at #5. It would be crazy if JJ is their guy, he’s there at #5, and they trade up with LA for him considering the Vikings chose not to hire Harbaugh
Yeah.
Harbaugh is in a tight mental decision.
Stay pissed at the Vikings, or let JJ get picked by probably the best situation out there for a rookie QB.
I’d lean towards Harbaugh not holding a grudge against the Vikings and getting more picks.
I don’t see why he would.
He vaguely remember him mentioning at the time that it was more on him than the Vikings, Although it had to be embarrassing he went back to Mich and won a national championship,
He could easily consider himself better off now than if the Vikings had hired him.
Of course no one knows what lurks in the heart of a man.
My memory is that he interviewed for 12+ hours and left because he didn’t get an offer.
But who knows what some harbor in their hearts.
Yes he interviewed and didn’t get the offer he expected.
The ‘on him’ part was that he expected that the job was his to accept and he didn’t prepare the way KOC did.
After his interview he did not seem at all upset about the Vikings, said positive things and wished them well and just said it wasn’t a great fit. I doubt he holds a grudge, especially after he just won a championship at his alma mater. Still kind of a strange dynamic if it happens.
I say you got to give JJ one big contract.
get it done.
One contract while we have a QB under a rookie deal? Maybe workable.
After that reevaluate prior to any new contract. If he demands more trade him while his value is at it’s highest.
Would prefer not to but can see where we might have to.
That’s a lot of money for a guy who touches the ball less than 7 times a game on average.
Decent argument. And injuries will factor in as he often take a beating.
I believe his impact is greater than that. And if get we get decent QB play (compared to last year) it will only get better.
Not my call to make luckily.
True but DEMANDS a lot of attention every second he’s on the field.
Not really sure how you balance all this out. JJ is for sure an A Plus receiver. But might you do better ‘overall’ with a A Minus receiver and use the money savings to get a couple of other studs to fill holes.
Not sure.
Maybe, probably but first you have to make that situation happen… right now we have an A+ bird in our in our hand…
In games he’s started, he actually averages just over 7 touches per game. Doesn’t change your point much but starts are more relevant, especially when you consider the only 3 games he’s played where he didn’t start were weeks 1 and 2 his rookie season and his first game back from injury last year.
Last time I checked it was 6.8 but might have shifted. Love JJ, for sure, but as a GM, I’m not leaning toward paying that kind of cash, for those amount of plays.
What perplexes me is how the Vikings can’t run the ball when they consistently get 7 in the box from defenses
IOL and Scheme I suspect, plus last year or 2 our RBs where not ‘all that’.
even league average iol and RB should be able to run effectively with 7 man boxes, especially a team that throws as much as the Vikings. Hopefully they figure it out.
Honestly, I do think Jones will make a big difference in our running game Ben.
Seems teams that run the ball well, make a commitment to run the ball. Not sure that’s KOC’s DNA.
I think he’ll help, but unless whoever is LG, Bradbury, and Ingram suddenly turn into Randall McDaniel, Matt Birk, and Steve Hutchinson I remain skeptical.
Yeah Ben, especially since KOC said he spent the offseason working on improving the run game.
IMO the run game didn’t really improve last year because they thought Mattison was better than he is and they traded the best run blocker on the oline in Cleveland (though he was not good in pass pro). Once Kirk got hurt it only got worser and in addition to that Akers was starting to look like a competent back when he also tore his achilles. I am optimistic about Jones, he’s a truly complete back who can run, is great in the pass game, and can block. If Ingram gets better, and they find a decent LG, I think the run game will improve a fair amount with the upgrade to Jones
That’s a great point. My guess, even with half blind RB’s, it comes down to quality of the blocking.
Counterpoint:
even though he only touches balls 7 times per game, his value goes well being that as he is the focal point for defenses, their primary goal is stopping him with double and sometimes triple coverage, thereby making the offense overall much better even when only touching 7 balls
Well all that said, personally, as a GM, I wouldn’t really invest that kind of money in any WR, since really they are a dime a dozen. Other than RB, WR is the easiest position to play in the NFL. Every year we see rookie WR’s come out and immediately produce. Look at Addison last year for instance. Just my opinion, of course.
‘they are a dime a dozen’
You can find diamonds certainly but a JJ is even rarer that that.
An accountant might see a numbers gain in trading him away but that doesn’t guarantee it is the right choice.
I can see both sides of the argument so if it happens I can console myself that it was the correct choice.
I’m not sure I would either, look at KC, they traded hill and last season basically had Kelce and mediocre WRs, but they invested draft capitol and cap space on defense and oline. They ran the ball well, played incredible defense, and Mahomes did Mahomes things when he absolutely had to and they still won the SB. Now all the Vikings need to do is trade JJ, find a Mahomes type QB, get a great oline and defense and the rest is history.
I think you figured it out!
So your solution is to go cheap and blame it all on a rookie QB?
My solution would involve bringing in good players, who make a difference on the field. The Vikings have drafted 62 players in the last 6 years and most of them are no longer on the team, and only about 5 ended up being good. Also free agent signings like Davenport, and all those free agent O-linemen. Dean Lowry? Come on man.
Well, passing on a RollsRoyce to buy a few Mercedes is not exactly going the ‘cheap’ route.
I’d argue JJ is THEE franchise right now.
He’s worth one big contract.
There’s always a lot of turnover when leadership changes, that being said both KAM and Rick are responsible for the last 6 years, Rick had bad drafts, KAMs first is terrible so far. The Vikings need guys like Beckton, Ingram, Evans, Booth, etc. to take a step next season.
besides rock solid offensive line, i can’t think of a better position to have THE BEST IN THE GAME for a rookie QB
Well a rookie QB is going to struggle unless the OC sets him up with a ton of timing routes and one read throws. Also, it doesn’t matter who the receiver is, there are times when you have to stand in there, take a big hit, and deliver the ball to a tightly covered guy.
Lawrence was a very good rookie prospect, but he only completed 59.6% of his passes, with 12 TD’s and 17 interceptions, and a 71.9 passer rating his first year. Rookies are going to rookie.
one thing you are correct about. rookies are going to rookie.
but hopefully, KOC will set our new rookie up to succeed and perhaps he can have success right away like CJ Stroud
Maybe.
How do you talk when your face is frozen?
slowly
Let us not forget unless he gets plagued by injuries this guy is going to have a long career. He isn’t just an athletic freak like Moss, he has the route running prowess and focus of a Fitzgerald. Even when his speed declines a bit JJ will be a great possession target even later into his career is a very real possibility.
Some truth to this. Expert route running and film study is what extended Jerry Rice’s career another 6/7 years once his speed went away. And Rice was never a burner but his game speed was more than formidable. Might not be a fair comparison as I genuinely believe that Jerry Rice is the 2nd greatest football player of all time – behind LT. Remains to be seen where we see JJ’s legacy land.
Right, I am just saying how he plays and approaches the game it’s very possible he has a longer career than guys who were just athletic freaks.
He wasn’t the same force as he was when he was young, but Moss was still able to take the top off a defense in his late 30’s
That’s fair, he was a different animal. He wasn’t a step ahead of others he was 4… got older he was 2 steps ahead instead of 4 lol.
I think he retired around 35, he fell off a cliff his last year in NE, BB astutely traded him at the time.
He was 35 with SF – not exactly late 30’s but close. I seem to remember him releasing a video of him running a hand-timed sub 4.4 40 at like 38 or 39 and allegedly was flirting with un-retiring at the time, although it was likely a goof.
You’re probably right about the 40 time, I just remember when he was traded to the Vikings he looked like a shell of himself and he was reportedly a complete asshole, like he made Diggs look like a member of the Vienna boys choir
I remember this as well. Wasn’t there an incident with a local restaurant that had catered a Vikings function and Moss was reportedly very vocal and rude, called the food ‘dog food’ and generally acted like an asshole. IDK why but I seem to remember both Favre and Jared Allen were reportedly unimpressed.
Yeah, that’s some of what happened, reportedly behind the scenes in the locker room was even worse.
They used to castrate Vienna boys to keep their voices soprano.
WTF?
There’s a recording out there of a castrato singing, really a beautiful voice.
Well we all made it through the end of the world yesterday. Now AZ wants 3 first rounders, so says a “source”. If they draft a real QBoTF probably worth it, if not outcome could be brutal w/o a 2nd next year as well. QoTD yes. Saw Bob Seger in Bozeman, he was getting old like Harrison but it was a good time.
I get to the point on the ‘trade up’ where is seems like we are bidding against ourselves.
If we offer 2 2024 1st rounders who can beat that? If Denver or Vegas offer 1st this year and 2025 that is a lesser deal, they would have to offer 2026 as well to match up. IMHO
Ludford wrote a novel on the 1st round possibilities on the DN. If you read it though make sure you pack a lunch.
https://www.dailynorseman.com/2024/4/8/24122506/nfl-draft-top-qb-rankings-roundup
I agree on the picks point you bring up.
I think the trade is this year’s 2 1st’s and maybe a midrounder.
But not ANOTHER 1st rounder.
If everyone says no, then grab Nix or Penix and a D stud lineman with the other 1st rounder.
Pretty much where I am as well. 2 1st and maybe a minor addition.
Otherwise go with Plan B/C/D or whichever one make the most sense.
Yeah unless you are getting into the top 3 theres no point offering more than this years first + a day two pick. I agree with that move.
Another ‘Expert’ Opinion.
The QB School- which I watched a lot of last season with all of our QB issues- had the top 6 QBs listed like so.
The CryBaby
J. Daniels
JJ (has no glaring issues to fix)
Maye (has some issues which are fixable)
Penix (very similar to Maye, almost 4A and 4B)
Nix. (good but not quite as good)
Half hour long, no film, just him talking about what he saw. His opinion of each ‘right now’, not about fit/scheme/etc.
I review a 1977 made-for-TV horror movie about a werespider. It was kind of fun.
Harrison Smith doesn’t look a day over infinity.
I think he will discover the fountain of youth and have his best season ever.
I also think Biden will stop trying to purchase votes through student loan forgiveness…I guess I don’t live in reality.
I’ve always said, “just because we have to live in reality doesn’t mean we have to dream in it.”
Except on Tuesdays….

The picture up top should lure Wrenage in.
I never get tired of mocking Harry’s chronic old age…even if it is cruel.
Threads late, busy applying for jobs last night, busy with work this morning.
Has your wife been deployed yet?
Nope, they actually pushed it out to next year, which is good because now she’ll only have one more before she can retire
That’s good, good luck on finding what you want for a job.
My wife just had to get a new job since we sold the restaurant, it took a while, it seems everyone wants to spend 2 months thinking it over before they put in an offer.
I have been lucky and have worked for the same company for 24 years.
Good luck on the job search man!
Thanks man!
Yikes.
Good luck!
Hope there is high demand in your field.
There’s always more demand in the nonprofit for executives than the fire profit, it pays less but I get to wear shorts to work and don’t work 60 hour weeks more than maybe twice a year and I balance it with a couple 30 hour weeks
when I agreed to come to this company I demanded protections in the form of 3 months notice if I’m let go And an additional 3 months regular pay after that, so I’ve got 6 months at least
Wish you luck. Have a lot of experience in the nonprofit area. Would simply say this – organizations are always searching for talented executives who are willing to work hard.
There are many nonprofits that are very big, well run and pay there executives quite well. Of course, they expect top notch performance..
All the best.
Yeah, my pay is quite good for nonprofit, though I’ve had offers at about 50% more in the for profit world for similar level of responsibilities and budget. My pay is actually part of the issue as per industry nonprofit standards I’m overpaid. I’m actually not particularly worried, I can take my time and target very specific jobs over the next couple of months. I can also always go back to consulting, which is highly profitable but much more uncertain.
Consulting is a tough business. Hope it all works out and you seem to have time on your side.
Yeah, as a single dude consulting was great, but with kids and a wife not so desirable.
Can always do the hankie code at the local truck stop. Pays well I hear.
I’m not familiar with “hankie code”
It comes right before the “pankie code”
and WTF is that?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handkerchief_code
I always learn so much here.
What kind of work are you looking for?
executive in the nonprofit world, or anything else that pays 100k+
Gotcha. I don’t have that to offer, but I’ll keep my ears out.
Rise and shine skolland.
