Not much Vikings news.

Last night Michigan defeated Washington 34-13. Michigan pretty much bullied Washington the whole game, they were much, much more physical. In a much anticipated matchup of QBs, neither McCarthy nor Penix were particularly impressive, Penix was really not great, he completed 27/51 for 255 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTS. McCarthy was a fairly pedestrian 10/18 for 140 yards 0 TDs and 0 INTs. The difference in the game was in the trenches. Michigan rolled up 303 yards on 38 carries and just destroyed Washington’s front 7, especially early and late. The Michigan front 7 completely shut down any run game from Washington and were able to get some pressure on Penix. It was exciting early, then boring until early in the 4th quarter. Congrats to Michigan.

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

So in my opinion, none of the CB’s on the team were really very good. I guess Murphy was the best corner we had. The rest I would dump and start all over. We need to have bigger, more physical corners. Honestly, watching our DB’s try and tackle (or not) was mind numbingly pathetic this year. KAM needs to fix that in the off-season.

A current event – happening today.
Some folks earlier mentioned things are messed up.
Saw Trump is in court, DC Court of Appeals, to hear his immunity case,
Court is most liberal in country. 3 Judges – 2 Obama appointees and 1 older Bush(moderate).
Trump will lose.
But if case was heard in Texas Court, he might easily prevail.
We have a wonderful nonpartial Judiciary.

The liberals “legislating from the bench” to destroy Trump is amongst the biggest threats to this country I’ve ever seen. Judges are making up law as they go to try and convict Trump of something… anything… that would prevent him from running. Even if he has never broken an existing law. They are altering laws, after the fact, and trying to convict him.

Sort of depends which part of democracy.
We don’t like a Supreme Court decision – no problem, let’s pack the court.
We can’t get our stuff thru Congress – no problem, let’s eliminate philabuster.
We want to get certain folks locked up- no problem let’s eliminate due process.
And then there’s sending FBI after parents at school board meetings, we don’t need parents to get involved with kids education.
I’m getting tired. Does seem democracy is indeed on the ballot.

Sounds like me when I try to true up my tax worksheets.

As a boring aside, I/we had planned to use my CPA buddy this year to do my taxes, as I have some pass through profits on an oil/gas entity. This would mark the first time I have not done my own taxes. One problem is that the K-1 may not come out until after April 15 so I would need to file an extension.

Anyhow, I forwarded him last year’s return (mind he has lampooned my beep boop approach to TurboTacker for more than a decade) and shockingly he called me and said he had reviewed the return and found no errors, and grudgingly said I did not need him to do my taxes, as he would help me with the extension and pass through. Said while my return had many facets none of them were overly complicated and I was paying my fair share.

where have I heard this before??

In order to gauge what Cousins might get, looking at what the market has given to a player that hasn’t won an MVP award in his mid-late 30s. It’s why Aaron Rodgers wasn’t included on here.

There is one thing that stood out with these contracts. Only one of them (Wilson) had their guarantees come close to half the value of the contract. It’s worth noting that these are all full guarantees and not ones that are injury guarantees.

NoDakRube

And here is the takeaway from the article for those to lazy to click on it.

Prediction: Vikings offer one year, $35 million fully guaranteed but Cousins will choose to hit the market without guarantees into 2025.

The article is obviously written by Surly.

I love how people are taking that at face value. It is about the money. He’s saying ” Iv made so much money in my life so thats not the issue. However, I still want to be paid at or above the current top QB market because thats what myself and my agent and my regular season stats say I am. So thats what Ill want.” Its the same as Dalvin Cook wanting more money last off season.

Nope. Under $30 mill a year or gtfo Kwerko. No guarantees, no no trade clause. Vikings played your game for half a decade, now its time you play theirs if you REALLY care and really want to stay a Viking and retire here. Thats how you show it.

It is simple. Cousins will play for a fair price, guaranteed money, and a no trade clause. As he said, it’s not about the dollars, but what the dollars represent, and the structure of the contract. This is completely simple. KAM will not acquiesce to the “structure” part, and so Cousins will be playing elsewhere in 2024.

Simple.

I don’t see the conservative media “twisting” many words because frankly they don’t need to, he’s just so far gone – tho they certainly are biased I won’t lie. It’s incredibly strange how the major media just ignores this every day gaffs.

Certainly the opinion pages and comment sections FAR outweigh the spinning in one direction tho – that’s what’s odd as well. Do lib people not have anything to do at all? 80% of them seem to be writing opinion pieces and commenting on news articles all day.

I give zero f’s for these people and if giving (in my situation) Tester the boot and putting in “shady Sheehy” who will at least vote to close the border is what it takes I’ll do it 10,000x. And I’m sure not voting for the dumbass whose handlers have created the crisis.

Can you express why exactly he’s such an embarrassment? I don’t imagine you thought that (nor anyone else, really) prior to media making you believe he was for the past 8 years. I would imagine it would be difficult to spend that long publicly needing to fight against an establishment, but his time in office was quite prosperous for the vast majority of Americans, and much improved throughout much of the modern world.

Lol – Another thing that’s so amusing to me. Everyone considers a bunch of people wandering around a building “a violent attempt to overthrow the government”. Completely disregarding the fact that the largest gathering of conservative folks in quite some time came with approximately zero firearms, even though that group of people would be the ones to lawfully own them. Lol. Attempt to overthrow the govt gtfo.

Or people saying that rioting at the capital should be enough for jail time but completely disregard that it’s exactly what happened when DT won – except he was allowed to have the guard present and no one opened the fences/doors.

It’s laughable.

The word “insurrection” is interesting.
Jan 6 happened. I thought at time a march, a riot, a mob – but insurrection never crossed my mind.
Then the Dems start using the word and have hearings about the ” insurrection.”
And then a year and half later, some slick Ive leagues professors come up with the 14th amendment stuff and what word does that amendment use – “insurrection”
You think someone doesn’t plan ahead.

Yes I also think Trump as a former President has a certain standard to live up to.
There used to be a sort of unspoken area in politics that neither side crossed – like given the horrors of the Nazis, neither party accused the other of such. The very word was off limits. There are other rules – like former Presidents don’t get tax audits (like Clinton Foundation)
And McCarthism has been shunned by both parties for decades, and rightfully so.
So wait…. I am upset about the Leader of the free world with that hate crap – wasn’t he suppose to be a uniter?

The Redskins have over $86M in cap space for 2024 (according to Spotrac) and 9 draft picks, with the #2 pick overall. They fired the head coach, right at the moment when all the BS around the team he endured has passed, and the team is in a position to actually put a solid roster together.

I’d think with the new ownership, all that money, and all those draft picks, the next head coach is set up like no other in NFL history to take over a team.

OK when Jimmie Johnson left the Cowboys, he left Barry Switzer a ready built team… that’s about it though.

The offense is built for success. A competent starting QB would succeed. The problem this year is they did not have that. When the Vikings did, they turned the ball over like they were the ones getting points for it.

The defense is in shambles with only PJII and Carter as Edge rushers. Asamoah, Kwenku, and Pace Jr. as LB. Murphy and some young guys at CB and the DL has Phillips. Whos been solid but he’s not a pass rushing DT.

Mullens did fine, he doesn’t have the arm talent of Cousins though. There were throws he just couldn’t make.

When Cousins leaves, the Vikings will ultimately take a step back at the QB position. His departure in no way, shape, or form, makes the offense better.

Vikings are years away from an NFC championship, in my opinion. They don’t have any studs on defense, and JJ is overhyped on how much of the weight he can carry.

If Kwesi blows the draft, that just pushes a resurgence further into the future. Bad drafts build on each other.

I feel worse about the Vikings than I have in a long time. It is the Lions and Packers division for the foreseeable future. The Vikings only hope lies in drafting wunderkinds.

They either move up for their guy, stand pat at 11, or trade down.

I really dont think they’ll let time expire but its happend before.

KAM has been steadily moving on from legacy players like Thielen, Kendricks, Cook, Barr (but he came back) etc, with somewhat bloated contracts and long in the tooth as it were. I see no reason to think that won’t continue this season. Personally I think KAM will move on from Cousins, Hunter, and Harrison Smith this year.

I would say he inherited a team with significant cap issues, and understandably had to get that under control first and foremost. Yes he’s a bean counter and not much of a football guy like John Lynch is, and he’s also no horse trader like Lynch and Roseman are.

He’s going to keep trying to build a competitive team with cheap players who somehow play at a level way beyond their paycheck, IMO. Not sure if he can actually do it though.

What I like about Lynch. Overall, he and Shanahan are great NFL minds. He knows the exact type of players he wants for a defense, and Shanahan has his offensive wants. It’s easier to get where you want to be if you know what you want.

What I like is that Lynch was willing to admit failure with Lance, and once Purdy played better, made the move. They paid a LOT for Trey Lance, and now he is someone else’s issue.

Hunter will likely be offered a deal he can’t refuse in free agency.

Smith, I believe that will be on him whether he wants to come back or not. He’ll be taking a pay cut but it will be whether or not he wants to play.

Kirk, he’s worth 45m or more, that again will be on him how much he wants to get paid and how he wants it structured. I don’t see a world where he plays for less than 40m.

Rarely do players not want to come back and play for their current team. They have all sorts of roots imbedded, and relationships built, and change is just a pain. Cousins wants to stay here, but KAM doesn’t want him. Just like when he was in Washington with Bruce Allen. Cousins wanted to stay with the Redskins, but his GM didn’t want to pay him what he was worth, and ultimately let him walk. Hitman, Hunter, and Cousins all want to remain on the Vikings roster.

I predict none of them will be here next year though.

You have to figure in a lot regarding these guys. Smith is in no way, shape, or form worth 19m/season.

Hunter has a ceiling too due to his age and other teams can afford to pay him more for his services than the Vikings.

Kirk is a fierce negotiator. You’ve said it yourself that he’ll get what he wants. That is going to be the sticking point. Reading his comments yesterday, he will probably not relent much on the guaranteed money he wants in 2025. Should he? That really up for debate. There are other teams that can and will pay up for his veteran services though.

I don’t expect Kirk to take a 15m/year haircut on a 2/60 deal, even if it is fully guaranteed and I”m not so sure kwesi is going to guarantee 2 years of a 40-45m/year deal.

Offseason will be a wild rid.e

He had 2 sacks, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception, and 2 passes defended in 16 games. He was credited with 102 tackles (63 solo, and 39 assists).

Compared to the rest of the linebackers in the league, I don’t know how great that is.

Without one of the “top 3” taking a fall, the Vikings best move is to take the top Edge/DL at 11.

If you really like a guy, make a Teddy Bridgewater type move back into the 1st for a 5th year option.
