Since we now know where Green Bay is, where in the heck is Couer D’Alene. Heard it is beautiful there, but have no idea where it is?

Coeur D’Alene is in the upper tip of Idaho.
Across the border from Spokane and only about a dozen miles south of Canada.
Beautiful country, mountains, lakes, forest. Very snowy in the winter.

It is a couple 100 miles north of here.

I read a statement in an article about McCarthy, that he is “the first quarterback drafted in the first round to miss their entire rookie season due to an injury.”

Surely that cannot be the case…

Heard that last season.
Not sure why anyone cares if it is true or not.
Vikings drafted him and he got hurt and missed the whole season.
Would he have played much if he hadn’t been injured given our record with Sam? Who knows.

Hey SoCal, good morning… yeah, that seems very odd that McCarthy is the only first round QB to miss their rookie season due to injury. After all these decades of the NFL. Just surprised me.

Scottie Scheffler has the lead at 10 under par at the British Open. Rory is at 3 under, and Rickie Fowler made the cut at 1 under. Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth squeaked in too, so there’s a few guys I’ll be watching to morrow on moving day. Not real keen on Scottie. If he wins, OK. But kind of like to see someone emerge who hasn’t won in a while.

It could have been worse for the field, Scottie missed a couple of shorter putts coming in. And I think Scottie has the most solid game of these guys.

I agree JR. Scheffler’s game has been getting stronger and stronger as the season has progressed. Fitzpatrick missed some tiny putts as he closed out his round, then made a long one for par at the 18th, to avoid dropping another shot.

Moving day tomorrow, and I do hope Rickie makes some sort of move. We’ll see who has what in their bag!

The Watchers made me a Koontz fan back in the day.
There is a part of the book that takes place in a park in Santa Barbara right near my elementary school.
Plus it had an intelligent golden retriever in it. I read all of the Koontz novels until the ‘formula’ got too old and repetitive.
The ‘Odd Thomas’ series was the last of his that I read.

Is it worth it to have a backup generator for when you need it once a year?

How much do they cost?

Funnily enough when we moved here getting a backup generator was a priority for me…as we are out on the distal end of a power line run and would be low priority for restoration in event of a widespread outage.

Fully installed in 2022.

Has only run in an actual power outage one time (for an hour) since then.

I’m going to say it was about 16 all in for a 22 kW generator, gas and power hookup, the metal base thing that it sits on (we ordered and installed the latter ourself, great for keeping it out of the water and snow and makes it easy to do maintenance since it is at standing height). More to installation than you might think. For example, the transfer switch (make sure you order one with the transfer switch or they will gouge you to order separate) cannot be mounted on the electric co-op pole and has it’s own pole that it sits on.

We got one 3 years ago. I figured we had the money, are retired, i dont want the inconvenience, plus we are on well water….no power no toilet flush.

Cost about 12000. Longest it was on was 2 days

If money is no object, by all means.

$12,000 is too much for me to spend today.
But as I age, I might splurge.

We are rarely without power and I’m not sure what happened today. It is a pleasant 74 degree, mostly sunny day. I know that there is a lot (I mean a lot alot) of road construction around here so I’m wondering if someone didn’t cut a line or knock over a pole or something. We maybe lose power once or twice a year and it is rare that it is out for 2 hours. Usually it is less than an hour.

We got a generator in Calif when they started shutting off the power anytime that they had high winds in the area.
When I moved I gave it away to The Teachers BFFs husband. We have had one power outage her for about an hour but we had battery powered lanterns and flash lights in every room of the house already.
We did get a gas grill last fall since we have an electric stove. So we needed some way to heat up food/water if needed. We have a Ex-Commifornians preppier mentally expecting things to fail us. Not needed as much here but it will take is awhile to lose it.

So at the Rec Center where The Teacher and I work out has Summer Programs with dozens of kids broken down by age. Yesterday a group of younger kids (6-8) were on the Basketball Courts playing Hockey with some cheap plastic sticks/puck/goals. It was quite the scrum with 12-15 uncoordinated kids trying to hit the puck toward one goal or another.

Finally the puck got loose and found it’s way into a goal. One little girl was so into it that she threw up her arms, hockey stick included, leaned back her head and screamed at the top of her lungs “Touchdown!!”

It made me laugh out loud and put a smile on my face for the rest of my power walk.

It is fun to watch the groups as the walking/jogging/running track circles the 3 BB courts. But lots of kids playing sure can be loud.
Saw one adult staffer giving a group of youngsters a ‘talking to’ about ‘just because someone doesn’t do what you want doesn’t mean you can throw a fit about it’.
That is something you will never see in Commifornia.

One of my former bosses is married to an FBI agent. He is retired now. Way back in the day they lived over on that side of the state. She said at that time there were many people that didn’t look it and that were way up in the social and political circles that belonged to a skinhead/kkk type of organization. It may have changed by now, but who knows.

I’m being honest in saying that as an immigrant to Montana in the early 90’s I could no more have pointed out where Green Bay was within Wisconsin than someone from New Delhi. It was only after we moved to North Dakota in 2000 for grad school that I knew where it was as we camped in Door County.

For that matter, as a lab tech sending samples to Mayo Clinic for testing I thought Mayo was in Los Angeles…until we moved to Grand Forks and I started school. Minnesota was unofficially known to me as the land of lakes and loonies and source of the scourge of hunters on opening day that don’t know the butt of a rifle from the barrel.
