Russia is now talking a peace deal with Ukraine, now that Biden has dropped out of the race. Putin is afraid of Trump and always has been. He loves the Democrats, because they’re too afraid to face up to him, and always seek some sort of weak-ass diplomatic solution.
I suspect that Russia will start with ‘we will keep everything we have taken from you’.
Then when Trump is retired they can go back and get the rest.

Over a third of the Jasper townsite has been lost. Tragic.
Those beautiful small towns nestled in the woods are always at risk.
Love to visit them, would be scared to live in one.
I (ahem) became a man while camping at Wabasso in Jasper National Park. I’ve always had a soft spot for the area, and camping in general.
Tangentially but not romantically related, we gave away our camping stuff when we moved here from Billings. After our courtship, my wife confessed she didn’t care for tenting and days without showers, so we did more of the motel or cabin thing, subsequently the little class B RV. However, I want to do a little camping on our land with the doggos, I think they would like it and I like sleeping out doors. My wife had found a tent at a local shop that sells finds from storage units and brought it home for $20 – junk. I found a 4 man Coleman during prime days for $50 – it is like nicer than any tent I’ve ever had before.
Unfortunately I have yet to set it up cuz it is beastly hot.
We used to camp with the kid but after a couple of foot surgeries The Teacher is not good with walking over uneven ground any more.
So hotels, cabins and such it is.
My wife and I’s first camping trip together was legendary. She had never been camping before. I considered myself quite the accomplished guide.
After a 12 hour drive and overnight stay so she could meet the folks, we struck off for West Edmonton Mall to pick up a few supplies and groceries, arriving at Wabamun Lake at 4 pm in time to set up and start up the naphtha stove. I should have taken it as a sign that Wabamun was virtually deserted, unusual even for a weekday. Rain started falling at 10 pm, rained HARD all night, had to take down the tent in the rain…drove on to Wapiti (in Jasper NP), saw the sun for about an hour, rain again, take down wet. Hit Columbia Icefield, weather was perfect, finally I thought…nope starts raining as we get to Protection Mountain. Finally had dry nights at Radium Hot Springs (BC) and Primrose Meadows (MT).
No kidding I bet it rained 30 cm those three days and nights.
We did have better trips in the future but that was the first.

My wife and I went camping our first summer of dating. While she had a good time, she informed me later that she would prefer at least a cabin and indoor plumbing.
She also fooled me by cooking for me a few times while dating.
Now, her idea of roughing it, is no spa in the hotel. And, I do all the cooking.

Got an email last night to renew NFL ticket. Had it last year on the student rate of $109 as my daughter was at MSU and used her ID. She is at my place many weekends of the NFL season. Anyhow YouTube wanted me to renew at $109/yr. My daughter has since graduated. I renewed but then started feeling guilty. But then I rationalized” they sent me the offer, I didn’t mislead them.”
Also, if hockey is so great in southern states, why didn’t the Olympic committee award Dallas or Tampa the 2034 winter Olympics in stead of Salt Lake?

The first point is in my opinion a bit of a moral conundrum. Just a brief background anecdote. Good friend of mine during residency, we shared an office, studied hundreds of hours for boards together, went on numerous outings with our wives. He ordered a table saw from somewhere, had waited two weeks for it to be delivered, no one knew where it was. He complained to the company, they shipped out another priority and it was delivered to his driveway two days later. After another two days passed, a second table saw (the original order) arrived, and he was telling me about it next morning. I said well you need to contact them to return it and he said well it is not my fault I got two.
That bugged me. In my moral compass that is stealing from the company. Therefore, we have not been very close since leaving Rochester.
That is how my mind works, just me. I’ll still be your skoloholics bud, but when similar things have happened to me I will contact the company, tell the cashier I handed them a $50 not $100, etc…Funny thing is often the company will say thanks for your honesty, just keep it as it is too big a hassle for us to have it returned.
Have had that issue and will let the company know.
Now if they expect me to fix their problem (packing up, hauling to shipper, etc) I just let them know it will sitting here waiting for them but not to take too long.
They normally change their tune at that point.
Had similar issue as table saw story with Amazon and a propane heater for my elderly dad to use in a deer blind in the Flathead. Never delivered by Amazon and bought one at local hardware store. Amazon refunded me. Took dog for a walk and UPS guy delivered heater in an unusual place. Notified Amazon and they said keep the heater.
I am obliged to email YouTube. My clear conscience is worth more than 300 or so bux.
Had this happen last night. Went out to eat, when they brought the bill, it was for someone else and was about half as much as it should have been. Told my wife I could just sign the slip and leave, but I flagged down the server and got it corrected.

No discount for me. I got it halfway through the season last year for half price of course, but now my email says 489.00 for this season. I’m not paying that. I will cancel and maybe pick it back up halfway through again unless they drop the price.

Set up the install. Everything installed and great. I’m a happy camper.
About two weeks later I get an email from Walmart.com saying my refund has been approved. I ignored it and said they don’t know WTF they are doing. A few days later I am refunded for the tires. Email says to call if I have any concerns. So I called to try to tell them they gave me free tires. On hold for 20 minutes with the, “you can go online with AI Bot Chat to resolve any issue”.
I hung up and said eff these guys.

It’s not stealing if the company makes a profit. Therefore, since a bartender makes a wage and the bar makes money, why would you tip them? They make lots of money in other ways. Taking the empty cans down to be recycled, for example.

I was lucky enough to be walking around the hospital campus yesterday when the Knife River truck backed into the 480 V power pole. Sam D was yelling at him to stop but it was too late. Snapped off right at the base, the lines started shivering and I was thinking WTF where do I run. Fortunately the guy wire connecting to the street light across the street stopped it with a twang before it fell on the TCU…and maybe roasted MT Viking.
I had to do acrobatics this morning to plug my computer into a generator powered outlet. The guys are all out there having fun replacing the pole, but they blocked off provider parking. Such a tremendous inconvenience for me to have to park a block away!

Yep, that’s it. This is the perfect time to have high draft picks.
But, if we have a #1 pick, we could trade that for a haul, and end up with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
So let’s bomb for a high draft pick, and not use it. OK, I get that.
I’m not saying we should bomb on purpose, but if we do we can trade the high 1st pick. If we are looking to get a solid DB, we don’t necessarily need the #1 pick to get him we can trade back to a top 10-15 and get a 2nd and 3rd.

Well this is the prevailing thought around here. It’s fine to 3-14 because you know, that’s the same as going 8-9 or 9-8. AND we get a better draft pick.
Personally, I want to field as competitive a team as I can every year.
I don’t know if this is tongue in cheek or in the spirit of a little back and forth snark.
I have made the 3-14 assertion. Not because it is pleasing, but because we are fielding Darnold and a rookie (downgrade at QB). If they do better, awesome. I repeated the 3 win assertion today because we are bombed out at CB, running the same Flores defensive scheme that was picked apart second half of last season, with minor upgrades at defensive line.
Now we could hypothetically trade next year’s first rounder and pick up a “shut down” CB, which IMHO would only incrementally improve our win total.
Knowing that we are short of draft picks but will be moving into our sweet spot of a rookie QB contract, I would prefer we have far more early round picks than we currently have. So, hypothetically again, if we can trickle down from a top 5 spot into the lower half of the first round through a couple of trade backs to teams looking for “QBOTF” or “their guy” while acquiring some 2nd and 3rd round picks, I see that as a “management theory.” After all, we have our potential QBOTF.
I don’t think teams tank for draft order. I think the Vikings just won’t match up well against their opponents. The implication is that I want the team to lose 14 games out of perverse pleasure of getting a #1 draft pick. That is not correct.

If we end up ‘sucking’ then it is best to make the best lemonade we can with those lemons.
That is not the same thing as hoping for it all to go bad, just finding the best use of whatever silver lining comes along.

Here’s my problem with the suck theory for us at this time.
Lions and Packers have top seven teams and really good QB play. Bears actually have there act together and have a very first rate QB prospect. And if he’s real, we’ll end up last in the division.
