For sure – I’m hoping for growth and production. I want Minny to be competitive but also understand we’re probably a year or 2 away from being considered ‘contenders’ and I’m okay with that – as long as there is growth, from JJ, JA and even from Jets. I believe McCarthy has all the physical tools and mental makeup to be the guy we need – eventually. He’ll have to play his way onto the field and then play well enough to stay there – a bunch of ‘ifs’, but I’m optimistic. I’d love to see McCarthy come in early and set the league on fire – but the reality is that he’ll likely struggle like most rookie QB’s do – that’s fine, as long as he learns and grows from it – I think he can and will.

Like Trevor Lawrence, McCarthy has all the tools. Also like Lawrence, he will take a few years to “get there”.

Another little tidbit – and I just got this watching the Five.
It seems at previous NATO Meetings. the leaders of other countries try to schedule meetings with Biden as they know he likes to go to bed early.
I simply find that incredible. No other President in our history could live that down.

Do you think Harbaugh is a better coach than KOC?

Every football team Jim Harbaugh has ever coached has been a winner, and he took the 49ers to the Super Bowl. I don’t like him personally, but he’s a proven Head Coach.

Didn’t he inherit a team that was severely poorly coached and like four all Pro’s on defense and solid QB play. Their LB corp could go toe to toe with the Legion. But he pushed too hard and people started flaming out.
Give you college.

I’ve known plenty of leaders who burn people out on the regular. “Whip the horses till they falter, then get new horses.”

He knows X’s and O’s and gets results from the Jimmy’s and Joe’s.

Harbaugh may be washed at this point. There’s a reason he isn’t in SF anymore. They went the younger offensive type route. It isn’t a failure yet and I’ll give KOC another year or two before I start coming to too harsh of a conclusion. He gets the team to the playoffs this year and competing for a SB next year, we’ll be getting him sized for a gold jacket.

I don’t think the Vikings will get into the playoffs this year, or next year as it stands today. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong. If I’m right, you’ll never hear me say I told you so.

Look, I’m a KOC fan as a coach and love his offense ( sorry NLV).
But I hear. most of the sporting world, including many here, already proclaiming all these wonderful things he is going to do with the Chargers.
And I believe he wore his time out in. SF by thinking he was bigger than the owner – like not showing up for meetings.
Just me, he could be the second coming of Lombardi but if I was an owner I wouldn’t put up with his crap.

You asked me if I thought Harbaugh was a better coach, not human being.

Also, if you think the offense under KOC is great, that’s fine. No “offense” taken.

JRobert

I think KOC is a good coach and I freely admit I like our offense – although not so much the running game.
I really don’t get into who’s the better person. But I do know in my former job, if one of my direct reports gave me a KMA, they’re gone. I like proper behavior, and I guess I like it in football coaches too – not saying that is right or wrong., just me. Believe most of the football world would chose Harbaugh over KOC.
I was just curious. Meant no ‘offense’ either.

We have discussed/planned where all the big stuff is going. The rest has areas (garage, spare bedroom, great room over the garage, etc) where it can be unpacked and sorted eventually.

We figure a couple of days to get it mostly figured out and then probably the rest of the summer to get 80% or so organized. That last 10-20% may never get done, but that’s ok too.

2024 NOAA Hurricane season WAG:

NOAA National Weather Service forecasters at the Climate Prediction Center predict above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin this year. The upcoming Atlantic hurricane season is expected to have above-normal activity due to a confluence of factors, including near-record warm ocean temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean, development of La Nina conditions in the Pacific, reduced Atlantic trade winds and less wind shear, all of which tend to favor tropical storm formation

————————————————————
2023 WAG:

NOAA forecasters with the Climate Prediction Center, a division of the National Weather Service, predict near-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic this year.

2023 Actual:

The Atlantic basin saw 20 named storms in 2023, which ranks fourth for the most-named storms in a year since 1950.

——————————–
My guess is that NOAA gets it wrong. Again.

We see a few houses in the neighborhood have them. Have not cost them yet as the old house came with one.

You must have low humidity and a pretty good temperature drop when sun goes down.
Sort of like high desert weather?

Low humidity, absolutely.
High Desert weather, yes indeed.

Only on the hottest nights do we need to keep the house closed up over night. A few weeks a year.

Our ac runs 24/7 and will do so until early October.

Enjoy it while you can…I heard that if the lefties win, they are going to mandate setting your temperature at no lower than 78 degrees….have to save the planet you know..

O.K. I think they are also suggesting 65 degrees for the maximum setting for the furnace in the wintertime, but you can always wear a light jacket around the house.

Give them time. The next thing they will say is that winter jackets cause climate change.

A/C or minisplit? We have three of the latter…love them! So cheap to run, although we only typically use one at a time. Still cool enough at night here that we open windows at 9 pm.

Had to look up ‘mini split’ as I had never heard the term before.

We had to replace the house A/C/central air/heater a few years ago when it went out while the we were leasing the house. The property management authorized it and we were too far away to investigate options and it was considered an ’emergency’ as it happened during a Dec cold snap.

So now we have a brand new set up and the whole thing was write off and the lease was high enough that still made money on the place.

Sorry, I should have said air to air heat exchanger.

We have one unit in the initial shouse, with the exchanger mounted on the wall outside of the unit. That one only heats to 0 degrees Fahrenheit but works for taking the chill off most winter days (we keep the radiant floor at 70), but works great in the heat of summer. The two newer units in the addition are connected to a single exchanger mounted on a stand – they heat to -30, and were only slightly more expensive. Technology continues to advance, I guess most new homes as well as many retrofitted older homes in Scandinavia as well as much of BC and the Maritimes in Canada are using/converting to these as a sole source of heat.

I like moving heat, not using energy to create heat or cold.

Sounds good.
We have a list of changes/upgrades we want to do. Most of it is minor but first make the place ‘home’ then prioritize the projects.

AC/Heating will be low on the priority list as the current system is only a few years old. Once it gets old we can start looking a smart options for replacing/upgrading it.

In Montana our pests are bigger. Deer flies the size of a quarter and grasshoppers the size of your little finger. No-see-ums are rare in these parts, I guess I should count my blessings I can have windows open.

Speaking of pests we had something raiding the pots and succulents around our deck, even pulled out some mouse poison from a trap. Couple of days later dogs were sniffing around a table with elevated base out on the patio. I yanked the table away and there was the felon, a packrat. Tuck grabbed him in a split second and it tried to wriggle out of his mouth. Tuck shook his head and bit down (a no no with birds but I’ll allow it with rats), top of the rat flew one way and the bottom the other. Prognosis for survival very grim. To think the dogs let me jam my fingers in their mouths to use a dental pick…but can bite a rat in half like a piece of cheese.

Did another $15 bet on Underdogs last night, had an 8 pick Parlay, again…had 7 hit and was one more Miranda hit, run, or RBI away from winning it all. All of this, when he was standing on second base with no outs late in the game….AND THEY DIDNT BRING HIM AROUND! Sigh, oh well…but..wait…no, were going into extra innings, he gets another at bat, theres still a chance, 3-2 count annnnnnnd strikes out. Oh well, still won $150..but man I one strike out and one hit/run away from an extra $2k this weekend.

Its fun, its going to be my preferred way of “gambling” once the NFL starts again as well. In the 6 months iv had under dog Iv won more money consistently on parlays than I ever did making day of fantasy line ups on Draft Kings. Again, this is only putting in between $5-$15 at a time. Im out barely anything and whatever smaller amounts I win im keeping in and playing with that house money until I get something bigger.

Believe home insurance is regulated at the ‘state’ level. Perhaps contact your state regulator and file a formal complaint and also they may advise of other means to pursue.

A question or perhaps a thought. Early on I used to shingle houses to make money on the side.
Are thee asphalt shingles? If you pull them up to change the metal valleys, not sure how you could reuse the same shingles. The seal on back of shingles will be broken and not sure it would reseal.
ow, it has been a while since I have done this.

And then there’s the problem even if they were to replace the shingles, they won’t match and it will look like hell.

Insurance companies can run you through the wringer, that is for sure. My wife fights them all the time, like ALL the time. I don’t know how she can stand it.

She just went through a whole to-do with medical insurance over a chiropractor bill that included an irate office manager, collection agencies, HIPAA violations, insurance advocates and the Minnesota attorney general office stepping in.

She won, but I would have just paid the $250 on that one. It’s not worth the mental taxing to go through all of that crap. My time is also worth money.

Got to fight it out for that much, I reckon.

We also had a $30,000 medical bill insurance refused to pay at one time, but she managed to beat them on that one, too, eventually, but it went down to the wire and going through a ton of processes.

but i can’t believe how simple/easy my roof replacement went 4 years ago. insurance company treated me really well, even threw in $2000 for the shed in my backyard that is not even close to worth $500.

farmers insurance is who i am with and i have loved them. I even went to them this past winter, told them i need cheaper rates, and they worked with me and saved me over $1200 a year on homeowners and auto.

so….in your face i guess?

Nothing surprises me with roof replacement any more.

We paid extra to install hail resistant shingles after getting our roof replaced during the first big roof destroying hail storm in Billings. They cost quite a bit more but it gave us a small amount of relief on the cost of insuring. Two years later another hailstorm came through, many of the homes around us with hail resistant shingles were fine, ours were not. Shingle company analyzed a couple of shingles, said they were not at fault…their warranty was about as valuable as a piece of toilet paper.

Sorry to hear you are going through that.
