Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Looks like I was wrong(Again) yesterday with my prognostication. Carson Wentz was a full participant and JJ was limited in practice. From what Coach has said repeatedly (That JJ would need a full week of practice with the 1s) it would seem that Wentz is the man this Sunday. I did say, that I am good with whatever the team decides. While I really want to see JJ play, I want him to survive and he should be fully healthy prior to playing.

Watch the kicker screw this up
I guess not
Glad he didn’t or that The Douche didn’t get the Sealers in FG range in the last 2 min.
33-31 Bungles.
Didn’t age well, thankfully 😄
Bengals up 30-24 with the ball and roughly 5 minutes to go. Might just pull off the upset.
Edit: Flacco is a f*cking machine. Love the guy.
He out played The Douche so he is The Man tonight.
FG, Bungles up 17-10 at the half.
Have no idea how that pass to Ja’ Marr was ruled incomplete.
One foot down, 2nd foot dragged inbounds, no bobble.
I don’t agree with that one, either.
Some terrible PI calls on the Steelers, too. Mafia needs this one to stay under the spread.
Or they want to keep it close/interesting so the viewers keep watching the commercials.
Entirely possible.
Bungles had that Int by the time the players landed on the field.
What will the Officials call? Pro Douche?
Took it away from Medcalf, The Douche looks pissed. LOL
I picked up Rodgers on my FF team this year because my QB is on a bye. These interceptions aren’t helping my score any.
‘this year’ or this week?
Oh, this week. I’m not getting rid of Josh Allen.
Didn’t know if your format had a backup QB spot.
We have 5 bench players. I didn’t have a backup QB, I just pick one up when I need one instead of taking up a permanant roster spot.
Wow, that changed fast
14-10 Bungles with Pitt driving just before the half.
This Bengals defense is shitty.
Two 40 year old QBs going at it in Cinncy. The Douche is actually 41 now.
Bungles continue their tradition of drops and penalties so far.
It’s been bad, good passes bounce right off their hands.I’ve seen at least three easy drops.
Flacco’s receivers are doing him zero favors tonight. Hard enough to beat the Steelers defense without having guys dropping easy catches.
So Kansas U accused Texas Tech of throwing a pocketknife at their sidelines along with their traditional tortillas last Sat.
Only video shows that the pocketknife was dropped on the sidelines by the Kansas Assistant Coach, oops.
So Texas Tech wins the game by 25 points and the postgame allegations by even more.
https://www.outkick.com/sports/kansas-pocket-knife-video-texas-tech-fined
I can’t believe anyone ever bought this shit. Fear mongering to garner more tax dollars, to apply to things he was invested in.
John Kerry is, and always has been a douche.
Right up there with Al Gore, @even if he did invent the internet@.
Official injury report.
CD, DNP, Not Injury Related?
Hope he gets whatever situation it is cleared up in time to suit up.
Rest is good. I assume that his knee is tired.
He is still working his way back. Rest is good. He’ll be on a pitch count again Sunday. One day at a time, one step at a time.
Latest on practice today…
Pittsburgh vs Cinncy tonight.
I hope for a Bungels win myself.
The Douche is already too full of himself this year.
I might throw it on in the background.
Nick Punto for Twins Manager??
https://puckettspond.com/insider-reveals-former-fan-favorite-as-twins-managerial-candidate-01k7pfz867g1
The Twins always hire some ex-player to be manager instead of hiring the best person for the job.
Rocko was an ex-player??
Not sure. I’m a Braves fan. I assumed he was.
Yeah,
Wiki says Boston and Tampa Bay.
I’m telling you… nothing surprises me anymore.
That lard ass needs to get back to Springfield and read a few books about Lincoln.
Its Trumps fault.
They are just hiring ‘neighbors’.
How…is that possible? WTH?
Same way we had a “closed Border” last four years.
Good news?
This makes me sick. Propagating and celebrating mentally disturbed people.
they stand against bullying, but if you don’t bow down to the LGBTQUEIRIWIWEIR community, you get bullied….
funny how that is
Not funny to me. I’m good with punching people in the mouth who tell me I’m insensitive if I don’t heap praise on these people.
Close to bagging the NFL and I am a life long Vikes fan.
Same
I’m with you on this. It’s getting close to the point that I can’t justify watching, either to myself or my family. At least the NHL hasn’t gone completely bonkers, yet.
Ya, NHL quit the silly pride stick tape and jerseys. I’ve “justified” it for years on the NFL by boycotting their advertisers. “Ya, that’ll show ’em.”
I have already started to back off from the NFL.
Will not spend any money on it, watching it on broadcast TV is all they get from me.
If I could give up Budweiser after 40 years, I can give up the NFL. And i”m really starting to get pissed about all those “streaming” games that I don’t have. Guess the NFL is already starting to ween me off.
Cant we stand with ALL children to take a stand against bullying?
This makes little sense to me. Football is a business, a pretty big one.
When I was in business, we were very careful with our marketing, PR work and donations, to ensure we had a very non political position. Half of our customers were blue and half were red. Why turn off half your customers.
Getting to be more than half now.
Like Trump before he got into politics, “I give to both parties, its good for business.”
More theories…
Yup, I can’t imagine JJ is going to be ready the week after that, or the week after that, or maybe even the week after that.
He’ll be 100% about the time Wentz starts playing poorly.
I’m sure he’ll be just perfect to start in Detroit week 9. We’ll be halfway through his second season and he’ll have played in two games. Sigh.
If I were a betting man, I would bet JJ will be ready for the Chargers game in 1 week.
Last year JJ came down with an injury that nobody can pinpoint when it occurred, paving the way for Darnold to play.
And this year, after not playing very well, he came down with an injury that nobody can pinpoint when it occurred, paving the way for Wentz to play.
Hmmmmmmm…
This years injury occurred when the Falcons defensive lineman rolled up his leg, in the 3rd quarter. He was clearly hobbling after that, but adrenaline can prevent you from noticing how bad it is until the next day.
Your facts totally undermine my point.
Nonetheless, the rumor mills are hard at work, we were told 2-4 weeks rehab, he was jetted off to the UK…now getting additional opinions…misdiagnosis? Would he have benefitted from not running through airport with a fully loaded bag of American snacks to catch his flight, and instead rehabbing at the TC facility?
(I realize the latter is just my flight of fancy).
Laughing… some guy named Justin Jefferson just started following me on Twitter.
Anybody every use the Bank of Tioga in the ND area?
No. Why? are you thinking of robbing it?
this made me chuckle
speaking of robbing banks, one of my favorite movies is hell or high water
Did you like Tower Heist?
i don’t think i’ve heard of it.
Great movie
The Town was pretty solid too.
yeah that was a good one for sure.
Maybe.
I’ve gotta do my intel first.
Back to the Mutterland……
Heading up North tomorrow morning. Departing tiny Waco, Ne @ the asscrack of dawn and shooting north up 77 through the Winnebago Rez, 77 turning into 75, turning into 60 all the way to Worthington – or ‘Roundabout Worthington’ as my father says, every time. Because. Of. The. Roundabouts. Get it? I f****ng hope so…..
Worthington we hit Runnings – the most amazing store, ever. Well, I’m a fan at least. Then back to the highway and thru the little towns of Brewster, Heron Lake – where my Grandfather was raised – and Wilder. As a kid reading the names of these towns would bring excitement as I was that much closer to grandma’s house, to family….. that much closer to my beloved Vikings.
Weekend will be spent in the Windom/St. James/Jackson areas. Watching my Cornhuskers take on the Gophers in friendly, yet enemy territory. Frying fish, talking ish, playing cards and recounting stories of cousin fistfights and fishhooks in eyes……
Back on the road before that rooster crows Sunday morn, hot coffee in hand and NFL pregame on the radio on the way back – always a nice, easy drive with very little traffic. I’ll be in my easy chair ready to watch Minny beat Philly with time to spare.
Oh….. and we beat Philly this weekend. Don’t ask me why I think that, I just do.
JJ/Wentz – don’t care, doesn’t matter. We’ll still beat Philly.
Enjoy your weekend errbuddy…..
That is my neck of the woods.
thats in my kneeish to shin of the woods
Have you moved to the new house yet?
not yet. but my house sold the first day it hit the market which is good news.
the home i’m purchasing is having a brand new septic system installed, i cant move in until it’s complete and the county has given the thumbs up. i’m guessing i’ll’ have a closing date around Nov 14. And we’ll close on the house we are in now a week later.
Do they have to put in a mound or are you lucky enough to have an in ground?
it has to be a mound system. All of Washington County requires a mound system when the regular system goes bad.
thankfully i worked with the homeowner and was able to put it in a spot that wasn’t going to be RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of eveything. it’s towards the back and off to the side.
sledding hill for the kids
Fun. That was my summer job in high school. Worst case scenario it should only be about 4 or 5 feet tall unless the rules have changed a bunch.
4 feet at the highest point which isn’t too bad.
and i’m happy to come into a home with a brand new septic i didn’t have to spend a dime on
I was just going to ask if you had to pay for it. I believe that was a sticking point when you were first thinking about buying it.
yep correct. the homeowner wanted to split the cost at first
High water table in Minnersoda. Not something we have to worry about here in the high desert.
Combined with clay heavy soils.
Should have asked for more$$$$$
the first offer we got was WAY above asking.
and it was a family we were really excited to sell to (similar values and beliefs as us, first time home buyers, great family)
Are you leaving the suspension rig in the master bedroom?
racist, you can’t call it master bedroom…
also no comment
Yeah… the real estate market started that crap about 10 years ago. Owners suite is the politically correct term. I never bought into the guilt trip BS though.
Oh, I’m the master of my bedroom you better believe it…as long as it is just the dog and I in there.
I know….
Every time I get up in that area I look for tall, wordy, metal-ballad loving runner types who look like they’ve been enveloped in corn a fair share of their days……
Still don’t think we’ve met.
Never goes the way you think when you walk up to strangers and say “I’m hammer from the internet…..”
Reading all those names of cities I was wondering what country. And I’ve spent a fair amount of time in WVA.
That is some post there Mjolnir
Don’t honk when you drive by, I may shoot.
Jackson had PJ Fleck at their varsity game last Thursday. He came to watch his new TE for next year.
Heard that – my Uncle mentioned it. I still here stories of Mike Nesseth every time I go back.
Got to watch him pitch in an amateur game. It was different than any other pitcher.
Sounds like a good time. Safe travels and go gophers!
If a Judge can stop the firing of government employees or stop spending cuts, can a judge stop the hiring of government employees or increase spending from the bench?
As I mentioned yesterday, I cannot see how this Judge’s ruling is “legal.”
It’s not.
I’m just thinking the opposite.
When a democrat is back in office and they hire new employees, a republican should sue in a conservative friendly area and have the judge stop the hiring.
Then watch liberal heads explode.
These types of charts are interesting to me, but the “time to throw” data point is always a point of contention. Still, interesting to look at.
I can hardly read this. That aside, what does it mean?
Make sense of it for me (if you would).
You have to click on the image to bring it up in X, then click on it again to make it full screen so you can read it. Sorry.
Fundamentally it shows on the vertical axis the average depth of target each QB is achieving with each throw. Both Russell Wilson and Jackson Dart have the deepest average on their throws, so the Giants like throwing the ball down the field. Darnold and Stafford throw the ball deeper on average too, along with Lamar Jackson. Interestingly Stafford and Darnold also get rid of the ball quicker than most.
So Wentz’s time to throw is less than average and depth of throw is about average? Still have no idea if that’s good or not.
Also, if I’m hearing you correctly, Stafford is throwing deeper but in a shorter amount of time. Not sure how this can be as he’s receivers aren’t any faster than ours getting down the field.
The Vikings stats contain both Wentzs and JJs (QB) throws.
OK if it’s both – then same question for both Wentz and JJ?
The fact that the two QBs are combine into one stats pretty much eliminates ‘Time to Throw’ as a useful stat.
The Average Depth of might have some validity as it is influenced by scheme and play calling.
I don’t think that’s right SoCal. The label says Carson Wentz, not McCarthy/Wentz.
Thought it meant Vikings.
Yeah, but only Carson.
Yes, at the top it says min. 100 passes. So, JJ wouldn’t qualify, nor should he ever.
Maybe he skylights the ball like a punt.
So Wentz get rid of the ball quicker than average, even though he’s not throwing short a lot. That’s good.
Darnold and Stafford are clearly seeing the the defense and know where to go with the ball, thus throwing deeper more quickly. They see the windows and holes, and get the ball there. That is high level play.
But you can’t throw deep any faster than the receivers have the ability to get deep. Deeper throws require time – it’s science.
This graph show the average depth of throw for these guys is 9 yards. Obviously they throw a few over that, and a few under that. I can throw a ball 15 yards in 2 seconds, for sure (or could back in the day). These guys throw the ball 45 to 50 mph. The ball gets there quick. Even slow receivers can cover 12 yards in 2 seconds too.
Well I don’t consider 9 yards as deep. It’s not even intermediate.
It’s closer to 6.5 yards per throw. Lights out must watch football.
So when you look at any chart of where a QB threw the ball after the game, you will note most throw the ball less than 7 yards down the field for the most part. This includes lots of throws at, or behind the line of scrimmage. Most QB’s make around 5 throws over 10 yards out of 25 on average in the NFL.
Having an “average” depth of target beyond 8 yards in the NFL is pretty impressive.
Well, this is not a Cousin kudo but something I remember seeing a couple of years ago – maybe 20 or 21.
Said Mahomes lead the league in throws of 20 plus air yards beyond LOC. But Cousins was second, and 3000 of his 4300 yards that year had been air balls of 20 plus yards.
What struck me as strange at that time was some said Cousins held the ball too long. others we had a crappy line, yet the results were pretty damn good.
So overall, wonder about usefullness of this chart.
If you throw it anticipating the receiver to get to the open spot, you can throw it quicker than if you wait until the receiver is open.
This is true. Faster processors see it and throw it quicker.
When my kid was in youth football, he had a Varsity level coach. His kid was the QB, obviously. But, he never taught him to throw it to a receiver, he was taught to read the defense and throw to an area. It was the Receivers responsibility to get to the ball.
We had one of the most dominant passing games at the youth level, I have ever seen.
I threw that way my senior year in college. I had so many incompletions, I wanted to just spit. I’d drop back, the receiver was running a 7 yard in, and I’d throw it. Then he ran a 10 yard route, instead of 7. Really made me mad.
Since we have had Two QBs splitting time so far this season I am not how useful composite stats are on the ‘Team QB’.
Time to throw and time until release have been getting thrown around interchangeably this season and its skewing a lot of things.
Yes, it’s a data point I don’t take seriously. Time to throw is the amount of time from when the QB takes the snap, to when he throws the ball. That data point is skewed though if you’re taking the snap under center then dropping back, or taking the snap in shotgun. Also if you run play action, then that time gets skewed. So, I am not sold on it as a “standard” or a viable metric.
Yeah, Football is going the way of baseball with tracking EVERYTHING to the point its becoming redundant.
Eagles Injury Report yesterday…
Did Not Participate
TE Grant Calcaterra (oblique)
Limited Participation
G Landon Dickerson (ankle)
CB Quinyon Mitchell (hamstring)
Full Participation
LB Zack Baun (finger)
DT Jalen Carter (heel)
DT Jordan Davis (shoulder)
Hmmm…
It is nice to see Cashman as Full Participant in practice. Also, good to see AVG at least limited.
Yeah, that neck injury thing worries me though with Van Ginkel.
Not bad for a guy who joined the team on 24 August and took over 3 weeks later.
Not bad at all. I would expect him to play well this Sunday if he starts. Then, if we win, we would have a top 10 QB according to those metrics with a 3 and 1 record.
If that happens, tell me again how we sit him?
Well, I think the Eagles will come after Wentz. Fangio plays a base 3-4, but always brings at least four guys and even five, using blitz packages from everywhere. If they drop back into that cover three look we have to be able to run the ball. Fangio has run cover three 30% of the time this year. If they play cover one, then we have to hit the deep ball to Addison or Jefferson. Fangio is playing cover one 26% of the time.
If the O-line holds up decently, I’d bet Wentz has a good day.
With Wentz being a ‘full participant’ and JJ (QB) being ‘limited’ on the Injury report I think that they setting the stage for a Wentz start.
It looks that way. Before the London game though, they said Wentz had a rib injury that really affected him. Said he was “lobbing” the ball in practice. Now we all know you can take a shot in the ribs (unpleasant procedure) to get through that, but those shots wear off by the 4th quarter usually.
This week, all the pundits are talking about is the shoulder injury. It’s like they completely forgot about the ribs. I don’t think a single reporter asked him about that injury, and I haven’t seen anyone bring it up in any article this week.
Pundits are stupid.
‘Before the London game though they said that Wentz had a rib injury’
But he played in that game with those injuries and did fine.
He has had two weeks to heal so I doubt he is ‘more injured’.
I don’t see his shoulder/ribs as a reason for him to not play.
Ever had a rib injury? You are scared to sneeze, or cough for that matter. Every single thing you do seems to end up making that thing hurt. Even just reaching for the salt at the dinner table. They don’t heal up quickly either. As I said, you take the shot to play. It hurts like hell when they stick that big needle all the way in too.
Yes I dislocated my rib in Korea.
It does hurt to sneeze. Just getting out of bed was a chore.
But I still did PT and my job, although gingerly.
And I wasn’t given any pain killers.
Can confirm. Two broken ribs from wrestling. for 3 weeks I also needed to wear a wrap when sleeping to make sure I did not puncture a lung.
@sports R fun@
I dislocated my rib in Korea wrestling oddly enough. They gave me a wrap/support brace but I couldn’t put it on myself.
Thankfully punctured lung was not an issue with a dislocation.
The rib wrap thing humbles me and reminds me that in medicine, they say 50% of what you learn in medical school is wrong. The problem is you don’t know which 50%.
When I broke my ribs back in February, I had a couple of people ask if I was “wrapping” or “taping” the fractures.
I’m reasonably sure no one is routinely advocating immobilizing the chest for rib fractures (I’m not talking flail chest managed by plate and screw fixation in severe chest trauma). To do so would significantly increase atelectasis and chance of puhnooomeahhh. I checked UpToDate just now and there is no recommendation for immobilization.
Also, for SoCal, I have read thousands upon thousands of chest studies and never once diagnosed a rib dislocation. Even mention of them is vanishingly rare in the allopathic literature. It seems plausible that a rib might sublux in the joint without fracture, but the whole rib dislocation thing seems much more popular in chiropractic circles. Which is just to say I don’t know how you would diagnose it other than to say oh you have intercostal pain maybe your rib dislocated.
Speaking of dislocations, 1 thing I don’t miss since I hung up my basketball shoes at age 48 is the 1 or 2 finger dislocations each year….
Looking back they really sucked
It was in the upper center of my chest, just to the right of my heart. I can still feel the small lump where one rib is slightly out of place.
Never been to a chiropractor and for this injury I didn’t even make past the emergency room, no followups with GP or specialist.
I found that funny. And I also feel that goes back to all of my education. Math, I think they got correct. And music (I was a music theory major for a bit, until I realized my lack of talent).
I have believed so many things in my life that ended up being not true.
@Maybe someday Kirk will turn into a super bowl winning QB@
Like me, you obviously missed out on the “new math”, I still don’t understand how they do division (my kids were home schooled, so I never had to try to figure that out).
Depends on where the fracture is, how many are broken, and how badly. I cracked a rib last week trying to reach up/into my boat. Right below my R nipple.
Yeah, a strong cough bothers me, but I can still sleep on my R side, I played volleyball last night (no diving, no spiking, no overhand serving).
Granted, the other team wasn’t trying to pound me into the sand……..
QB play well and fine we know JJ is inexperienced and will need time and work. Our defense will be the problem they can’t stop the run. Hopefully cashman and vangink will help
Need Cashman and vangink badly. Load up to stop the run.
Defense is definitely important if we want to win games. This week we have Hurts and Saquon Barkley to contend with. Gotta have a plan for A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Their TE Dallas Goedert can be a problem too.
Flores has his hands full this coming Sunday.
AJ Brown has been a non-factor this season.
Of course that means he’ll light us up this Sunday……..
Of course…
Ha, yup. It’s how us “older” fans brains are wired after decades of watching this team. Hurts and AJ have record day, Barkley runs for 150 and 2 tuddys.
I really wanted to see Brosma this week. Wentz is a known quantity.
I have a feeling you will get your wish.
The O Line is still in flux, and there are some weak links. Wentz will miss a few plays at least by getting hit hard a few too many times.
Valid point. They are probably all destined for the blue tent at some point.
Brosmer, the new Slotergoat.
No you dont. You think you do, you dont.
KFEY is awarded the comment of the day..but it is early
