Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Man, only two more days until we fly to Florida. It’s supposed to be below zero here when we fly out on Saturday morning, and it’s supposed to be in the 70s Saturday afternoon when we land. I’ve never been to St. Augustine, the oldest city in the United States, and we’re planning to get over there. I see the Jaguars are playing the Jets on Sunday, and tickets are CHEAP, we’re keeping that open as an option.
I’m looking forward to seeing whether the offense can put up another good performance Sunday night against the Cowboys. I know the chances of making the playoffs are slim, but they can at least build some confidence by finishing the year on a roll. Shoot for 9-8.

I actually missed this…
Have to admit, I thought the Bucs would win by double digits. Very surprised that the Falcons overcame 19 penalties, dropped TD passes, and fumbling the ball on their own 25 to win. Oh yeah, 3rd and 28 with no timeouts and under a minute to play.
Atlanta wins?
But I was told Tampa was such a better team??
They are… crazy that Atlanta won this game.
2 point game
18 penalties on Atlanta. Wow
Another fumble
So Atlanta scored to close to 28-20 but then went for 2. Why??
Then KC gets upset at the WR who runs the wrong route.
28-20 with about 10m left.
I think the elbow is down before his butt. Incomplete
If they would’ve kicked the extra point last time, they’d be kicking the extra point to tie right now.
That shit makes no sense to me.
The Falcons offense is all #7, London being out hurts. I wonder why they quit throwing to Pitts.
Tickets at the 10 yards wide line 4 rows off the field for $160 for the Jags-Jets game Sunday in Jacksonville.
Baker is a damn good QB
Robinson fumbles at the Falcons 25 yard line.
That hurt.
Dropped TD pass… the Falcons suck.
14 penalties…
Falcons can’t get out of their own way… 13 penalties… first and goal now.
Another false start penalty on the Falcons. They may set a record tonight.
Cousins passes Warren Moon for 16th all time in TD passes with 293. One more and he ties Carson Palmer for 15th all time.
I think TB will be much better in the second half. They showed they could run the ball so I expect they’ll go to that a little more. Grind it out, and wear the Falcons defense down.
Somehow, with this comedy of errors, the Falcons take the lead 14-10 with 38 seconds left in the half.
9 penalties on Atlanta so far…
And yet the game is still tied.
Remarkable really. But man the false start penalties, and holding penalties are killing the offense. Bijan runs for 30 yards, holding call.
Atlanta making penaties great again. Back to back infractions.
Atlanta, the penalty machine.
Tampa will win this. Atlanta can’t stop Irving.
7-7 with 12:11 left in the first half. Questionable offsides penalty on TB that gave Atlanta a first down at the 8 yard line there.
About 9 yards wide on that 3rd down pass
I think Bijan went the wrong way on the route. Cousins doesn’t miss by that much.
https://bringmethesports.com/watch-compilation-of-bad-passes-by-kirk-cousins-on-mnf/
Laughing… is that what people do? Compile bad passes? Wow. Total KDS there.
Someone here must have written that.
Well they would have if they could write that well.
I didn’t read it, but I imagine it was someone who hates Cousins.
I think the seven points by Tampa might be enough to win this one.
Falcons already has 5 penalties. 4 on the offense.
TD vs Atlanta, hmmmmm.
I guess I will go Atlanta as them winning will cause more drama.
Plus they are ahead of us for Draft position so them winning doesn’t have a downside.
TD or TB???
TB, I blame big, fat, stupid, fingers.
I expect TB to win easily. They are the better team by far.
I am not making a bet so I don’t care which is the better/more worthy team.
I would prefer if Atlanta won so I will root for them.
No real skin off of my nose either way but if the game is on I might as well pick at team.
I picked Tampa in my pick ‘em league
Probably why it is 14-13 Atlanta at the half.
Laughing…
Funny. But there are reports he may actually start this week.
Pretty amazing that he could do that IMO.
This video demonstrates what I’ve known about defenses vs offensive passing schemes, and how reads and progressions work for decades. Warner talks a lot about finding the defenders in conflict, timing of routes, and breaking down how the same play works (or doesn’t) against various defensive configurations. I personally love this discussion. It shows for a single play, how many permutations and reads there are, and when you understand there may be 45 to 50 pass plays in a given game plan, knowing all the variations on all those plays, then being able to see it, know it, and throw it without taking 25 seconds to do it, is a skillset that takes a lot of time to develop.
I would cream my pants
Same….
“You like that ?!!!!….”
What would he cost us.
Per game he is actually not injured of course.
Big ,big bucks.
A great QB, but always hurt. We need someone who will be there.
Today’s injury report…
Aaron Jones hurt?
Shocking
Laughing…
Lol. That’s hilarious
For Edge…
Heading out to Washkish for the early season walleye rush on Upper Red Lake.
Hoping not to freeze the nads, but looking like it’s a good chance.
A good chance to ‘freeze the nads’??
Enjoy, I guess.
Use ball warmers…
Don’t let them touch anything…
This new ios update sucks
What is ‘ios’ ?
It’s an mobile operating system for folks who get duped by marketing that they aren’t just buying the same phone over and over and is far inferior to Android.
Thanks.
I boycott apple products….
I did like the original iPods for music, but the phones pissed me off years ago.
I have always have had iPhones although I have never bought one.
My first iPhone was my brother’s who worked for Apple. Once his entire family had upgraded their phones to 2s he offered it to me.
After that The Teacher gives me her ‘old iPhone’ every time she upgrades hers. My motto remains ‘If it is free then it is for me‘.
Regarding KOC’s comments about the hash marks making a huge difference for a college QB becoming an NFL QB.
Last I checked, the college field and the NFL field both were 160 feet wide and 100 yards long. Skill players can line up as wide as you want, or as close to the front linemen as you want, and they all can run anywhere the play calls for them to run, so hash mark width should be a non-factor, or a pathetically small factor.
The “middle” of the field is arbitrary – doesn’t have to be defined by the hash marks.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/G71MJFoXwAAeIG0?format=jpg&name=small
It is somewhat defined by the hashmarks, because the hashmarks establish where the pocket is.
Does that not mean an NFL field is better for a QB because it is easier to get out of the pocket and throw the ball away without being flagged for grounding?
Edit – whoops, doesn’t the position of the Tackles determine where the pocket is?
The pocket is the same size, but in the NFL the pocket is always closer to the center of the field. The strong side is larger and the weak side is smaller, on a college football field.
I don’t know how much of a difference that would make on a QB. I guess if you’re not used to the wideout on the weak side being 18′ further away in the NFL compared to college, the receiver would take longer to get to the “middle” of the field. This could mess up your thought process for which progression you should go through.
Just spit balling here; in college, if you’re on the left hash, you have a receiver out wide on the left and right and a receiver in the slot to the right, your progression may be LSR, if the left receiver and slot receiver are running crossing routes, because the receiver to the left is going to get to “middle” first. Those same routes in the NFL would likely be SLR, because the Slot receiver is going to get to the “middle” first.
Yeah, I have been ignoring all of his press conferences. I am realizing he can shovel shit as well as most politicians.
Still like him as a coach, but he needs to get better at play calling and giving specific answers vs word salad answers.
No professional coach or politician is going to give direct answers. This would paint them into a corner. If you are vague and dance around the question nobody can tell where you stand.
Actually when they place the ball on a hashmark in college, let’s say the right hashmark, the area to left is a much wider area, and distorts the center of the defense, more than in the NFL. In the NFL the hashmarks are much closer together, so that effect is very much lessened.
The left is squeezing the joy out of me.
I can’t even look at a pot hole without feeling bad.
Now, I’m told even the wonderful Christmas song ” Jingle Bells ” is racist.
Oh my, is anything safe from shame.
Joy Reid should be renamed ‘Killjoy Reid’.
Racist, or ‘raucous?’
“Jingle Bells” was originally a secular winter “sleighing song” called “One Horse Open Sleigh,” written by James Lord Pierpont in the 1850s, inspired by New England sleigh races, and wasn’t intended for Christmas, often featuring slightly risqué lyrics about unchaperoned rides and drinking, with the bells serving as a functional warning device for horses in the snow. Its association with Christmas grew later, partly due to its adoption into minstrel shows and its cheerful, winter theme, despite its raucous origins.”
Had read that.
Still. it’s been a well known Christmas song for over 150 years.
Hmmm….I thought it had been related to Christmas for a century and a half……
Looked it up on copilot, the song itself is not racist. However, the first time it was performed live, it was white people in blackface. So, clearly it is racist.
It only takes one thing for racism to last for eternity. If one of your ancestors was white and another black, is that racism?
Read up on Booker T. Washington. He called out the race baiting ethos in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. He was totally correct in his commentary on the subject.
Or more recently Shelby Steele.
Yep. I pointed out Booker T. Washington though because he was telling people about race baiting as a money making industry in the late 1800’s. Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. By 1890, Washington was already telling people about race baiters taking advantage of them.

I still play that game.
Classic!
“At least I have chicken…”
Laughing…
I would rather start Brosmer.
.
Damn, that is funny
She still looks good for having 100 kids.
Good man… terrible consequences… praying he pulls through.
A good man, are they going to indict him ala NY?
And people wonder why people don’t get involved in Blue Cities/States.
In Idaho the law says “if you shoot someone you believe to be a threat to you or someone else you ‘WILL NOT‘ be prosecuted or charged”. And Idaho is an ‘open carry’/’2A Sanctuary State’.
He challenged a drunk who was threatening people, including an elderly woman, and got stabbed in the chest. I don’t think he was armed.
‘I don’t think he was armed’
Did I say he was?
Umm….
https://notthebee.com/article/theres-been-another-stabbing-in-charlotte-but-this-time-a-hero-was-there
Just read – who knows if true or not – Dobie has since been arrested as there was a warrant out for him from him punching a pregnant women back in October.
What a mess.
Paul Harvey… prophetic…
My Grandparents used to listen to Paul everyday at lunch time (actually their big meal of the day).
He mentions the Devil here, but it is also the exact playbook from Marx’ Socialist Manifesto.’ And unfortunately, it is working.
True… I grew up listening to him too. I was 10 years old in 1965.
I grew up with him as well… “This is Paul Harvey, Good Day” was his signature sign off,
“and now you know… the rest of the story”.
So… not balmy…
Yeah, the next few days here look brutal. Especially Saturday and Sunday.
Making a big pot of chili (no beans) and not going outside except to let the dogs out.
Somewhat cool here, but still will be able to play golf with just a light sweater.
High temp of 0 for Saturday and Sunday in my neighborhood. Yuck!
That isn’t that bad. That Vikings Giants game I went to was 25 below zero.
Jimmy Carr (media selection) has just started popping up on my Facebook feed. He is very funny.
Yes, he is verry funny.
Clever guy for sure. Saw him pop up on twitter and found his point of view to be both salient, and humorous.
Check out some of the youtube vids called 9 out of 10 cats. English game show hosted by Carr, you might need subtitles because well they are English and they don’t speak American just the highlights they are very funny
It is too bad Joe Burrow is so injury prone. I think we missed out on a lot of Mahomes/Allen/Burrow battles. And what if Luck hadn’t retired?
AFC would have been bonkers cray-cray.
Its not that he’s injury prone, its more his line has ACTUALLY been bottom of the league his entire time in the league and gets him killed. Unlike our line which has been average to below average in that same time frame but not bottom of the league.
And it is a catch 22, you cannot pay Burrows the money they are paying him and pay a great offensive line. If I were an NFL QB, I would have my contract set up to take less money, but any difference from market value must be spent on the Oline. So, if I take $10mil below market value, that $10mil needs to be spent on Oline.
And what adds to this, Burrow was pretty demanding with management that he wanted to keep and pay all those top receivers.
I was in Cincinnati right after Burrow signed his contract. Fans were so hopeful and optimistic about the future then…
Yeah, Burrow is definitely too much moola.
Burrow will end up going to the Rams after McVay squeezes another SB out of Stafford. Then McVay will get another couple Super Bowl appearances out of Burrow.
Or he comes to Minnesota to re-unite with the better half of his college wide receiver duo.
I think both their big contracts run out in 2028, so then we could afford them!
Vikes will get Stafford for a Farve year and will win their first SB
Maybe you guys already covered this but I don’t understand all the issues with Jay Ward’s hit on Ertz. If he hits him too high, penalty, if he hits him in the torso, it likely would be a BIG hit… Penalty… What is a guy supposed to do?
Didn’t see the game as not televised here. So can’t comment.
But, as a middle of the road guy, you might want to go the the “Hog Heaven” site and ask the question.
It was a legal hit, just looks really bad in slow motion.
I think the big issue is everyone is looking at a still photo, where Ward hits him right above the knee. In the slow motion video, Ward is starting to crouch for the hit and Ertz is ascending and Ward hits him right above the knee.
He hit him right in the thigh pad, that’s where we teach kids to hit.
We need to make sure every person on earth understands this.
The environmental folks have become a cult. Much like any other religion, they WILL NOT accept any data that goes against their belief structure. BUT just like any other religion or cult, that also doesn’t mean everything about them should be dismissed. We should be taking care of our environment, we should be reducing and reusing etc… But these little universal truths that are good have been hijacked for monetary and political power grabs.
The climate change argument though is senseless, and baseless. It discounts and dismisses reality, and the history of the planet over millions of years. We know, the planets actual orbit around the sun is not a perfect circle, and the earths tilt towards the sun varies too. There is scientific data that shows climate will change based on the earths relationship to the sun. That’s what affects the earths climate and temperature. The amount of man-made carbon gas (or “green house gases” as the climate folks referred to them) in our atmosphere, is miniscule. The whole concept is ridiculous, and a total scam. It’s only purpose is to fear monger the populace so Governments can tax citizens more. BTW none of the money they collect from us will have any affect on the climate.
When I was growing up, pollution was terrible. It was real. Bad air quality, and polluted waters. Then we started cleaning that all up. That was real, and it was important. Climate change is a total lie.
Correct and I like I said. It’s just like any other religion or cult. Any data that is against their belief structure will not be tolerated. It’s Dogma over Data rather than Data over Dogma
Agreed
Ehhhh, kind of. Does CO2 impact temperature –‘ yes. Does it impact long term CLIMATE – not so much.
The bigger problem which will be our downfall is over-populatuon. The big question that i have not seen anyone answer is “how many people can the planet sustain long term?”. Now this is different from the much simpler question we can all answer of – “How many Packer fans can the planet sustain?”
Population – really? Would guess a heck of a lot more than we have now.
CO2 does not affect temperature in our atmosphere. It makes up .0016 percent of the whole atmosphere, so it isn’t a factor at all.
I don’t buy that argument, but I respect your thoughts on it. Arsenic in water is dangerous at 10 parts per billion, so the percentage is less important than how and why it works.
Think of hitting a golf ball through a tree, The crown of the tree is mostly air, but a few pesky leaves can interfere with the shot and ruin a golf game. CO2 works the same way. (I can go into a more scientific example if needed)
Either way, I do believe we go through these climate trends on a cyclical basis (agreeing with your point on planetary movement). I do not think this current warming is all gloom and doom.
I trust GOD.
Be fruitful and multiply.
He made earth for us.
By the time Earth is overpopulated, Elon will have colonized Mars.
Must have some BIG hands!!
the earth’s population is going to start declining around 2029
Nah, the Muslims will make up for the rest of the world’s birth rate declining.
The more I read the more I am convinced that climate change is a big fat hoax.
Studied this way back in college with a specific course. Professor said global warming due to human impact was not provable. He said the recent warming was probably more due to changes in the sun than to the earth.
I’ve known for a long time it’s a hoax. Data can be clipped to prove a narrative.
Agreed. And that is 95% of what passes for “news”.
TV isn’t called “programming” for nothing.
And all for money….quite the money laundering business climate change has become.
I have searched a long time to find any scientific study quantifying the percent impact man has on the climate. I have not found any. Most articles are based on correlation, not causality
I remember in elementary school having to write reports about the incoming ice age, and the overpopulation crisis. I think I was in 3rd grade, and they had us all convinced that people need to fear russia, that a school desk would stop nuclear fallout, that people should be limited to having 1 child to avoid overpopulation, and plenty of other bullshit.
Schools are indoctrination, not education. Same with most media bullshit.
Damn, got me going again….
They need to just stick to reading, writing and arithmetic.
I feel the problem is, you are banned from teaching religion. However, you can teach communism and socialism all you want.
Good point. However, with the current generation of teachers, I would be afraid of them “teaching” religion.
Teachers aren’t preaching communism and socialism. Quit it. I am sure there are bad apples just like there are bad cops out there, that doesn’t mean we should defund the police. They can teach about what communism and socialism is just like any world history class can teach about what the different world religions are. But to preach either doesn’t happen for the vast vast majority.
Just think that isn’t true. Many do not teach a full and complete history of our country.
Dealt a lot with my kids education. They could tell me about the good aspects of socialism in Sweden, but were clueless about the American Industrial Revolution.
sigh… Just because you had an experience withy our kids, in your town, at your school… doesn’t mean that’s all of America or even any where near most of America. People make this mistake all the time. They think their small, personal experience extrapolates across the country which just isn’t the case. There are some dumb people in ever profession for sure.
Hardly. My wife is an educator and did a vast amount of review before picking our kid’s schools. And this is talking about the ones that were most ‘objective.’ So, it’s actually our kids had it better than most.
Do you realize how big the school systems are in Arlington, Fairfax, Loudon counties are in Virginia. Not to mention DC’s and all the Maryland suburbs. Far larger than entire Western States.
sigh…just because you haven’t had a bad experience, doesn’t mean it is not happening.
When I was little I believed that when it was raining on me, it was raining on everyone.
Boy, was I surprised.
What’s actually crazy about this is… schools aren’t indoctrinating. They aren’t, are the cases of it? Sure, but that’s so few and far between. But what IS happening is pushes to have actual religious indoctrination pushed into the classroom. Yet these people who say things like, “School’s shouldn’t indoctrinate” don’t speak out against that. I am not saying this is you (it could be but I don’t know) but it seems many don’t actually have an issue with schools indoctrinating.
I wasn’t pushing for religion to be taught in school, I was (poorly) trying to point out that a lot of conservative values, like religion, are banned from being taught in school. Whereas, any discussion about transsexuals, socialism, communism etc. can be praised and taught by teachers in schools.
They aren’t banned, not at all, not in the slightest. This is just a false narrative you have bought into. Literally every high school teaches world religions, damn near every high school has a Fellowship of Cristian Athletes, most every team prays before games… the thing is these things need to be student lead. Schools cannot force/push religions, but they also can’t deny religion either if it’s student lead. My town’s high school has a group that meets once a month in the high school cafeteria before school and goes over a bible teaching. All student lead, that’s great and how it should be.
But they can force/push liberal ideologies.
Teachers are not banned from teaching religion. That is news to me.
Just asking – what is indoctrinating? And let’s put the religion issue aside (for now).
I used to tell folks if you’re giving a speech or writing a position paper you need to spend 90% of the presentation on the 90% of the important material.
So, let’s take American history and 90 % is pretty darn good, and 10 % some ugly stuff. Yet I know from dealing with my children’s education. 90% of the time the teachers are focusing on the bad parts of our past and the good gets but a modest nod.
Perhaps not indoctrination per se, but certainly and agenda.
You sat in those classes and timed how much time the teacher spent on those things? I doubt it. I imagine part of the issue is kids remember more of those things even if the teacher didn’t spent exuberant amounts of time on it. Because remember, they are kids. So atrocities in our history which there are plenty, stick out and then kids that hadn’t heard these things probably have questions. It doesn’t immediately mean there’s an agenda.
When I was helping coach a high school football team on the rez, I heard a kid one time say he has an upside down American flag in his house with AIM written across it. Man… the HC first started with, isn’t it great you can do that in this free nation and have that freedom speech. Took him back a second because he didn’t react. Then the Coach went off on him because he knew the family and they had lots of veterans in the family and what a slap in the face it is to all them. Then pointed out he lived in government housing and maybe he should move out of the house then if he hated the government so much. Really put the kid in his place… that same teacher teaches some history and some of their tribes history stuff and if you heard SOME of those classes you’d probably think, boy this guy must just hate America and is preaching hate. But other times they are covering the beauty of the country and times of working with the government on tribal sovereignty and such.
Point being unless you are there the whole time, actually documenting the 90/10 ratio you are making HUGE assumptions.
Not really at all.
But here’s a real test. Look at the questions that are now on the ACT Test.
You won’t see a question asking who wrote the Declaration of Independence, but you will have one to name some Native American that got killed in some masacre somewhere.
That is hardly the appropriate balance to me.
Do you have kids? If you help them with homework you get a good idea of what they are being taught.
I remember the whole incoming ice age stuff being proclaimed.
Math is hard for Gone fishin’.
Mornin VP and SKOL.
All we have left this season is for the team to be credible, and competitive. Next year, we have a lot of work to do.
True. Most of my point was to mock GF incessantly, however he is not taking the bait.
Ha, what I thought. Heck, let’s go for 10-7 then.
Morning all, here’s the injury report from yesterday.
CD and Hock or the only ones with DNP and they were both fine after the game. I suspect that they are more about ‘injury management’ then actually injured.
Addison’s Achilles has me a bit worried. He could be out for a while if it gets worse.
Since he was ‘limited’ I assumed it was just tightness and required some rest/stretching.
