Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts

Another baseball practice was cancelled last night, a strong storm moved through north Bismarck & made the fields unusable. We practiced anyway. We got zero rain in south Bismarck, so we just all met at the field at the elementary school next door to our house. It was a really good practice, and it was much-needed, it was the first time some of the kiddos have swung a bat this year. Our first game is tonight, and we’ve only had ONE official practice this season. We’ll get ’em caught up, we have a great group of kiddos this year, it’s gonna be a good year.

Vikings News

On Lunchbreak, Vikings.com tracks milestones and projections as we sit 100 days away from the beginning of the season.

Here are highlights from day one practice at OTAs from Vikings.com.

NFL News

Kirk Cousins did not show up for the Falcons’ OTAs, according to Sports Illustrated. Maybe they aren’t paying him enough to do that extra stuff.

The Packers are rumored to have offered Jaire Alexander a restructured deal in order to keep him in Green Bay, according to Bleacher Report. Up until now, it’s been assumed by most that Alexander would be parting ways with the baby poop green and pee yellow.

Mason Rudolph isn’t letting the Aaron Rodgers drama affect him, per NFL.com.

Well, that didn’t take long. Joey Bosa is hurt already, he’s out until training camp with an injured calf, according to NFL.com. CBS Sports isn’t quite as optimistic, they say he’s out ‘for the forseeable future’.

Roger Goodell stated that the NFL will NOT be choosing the roster for the Olympic flag football team, from CBS Sports. I didn’t know anyone thought they were going to choose the roster, wouldn’t that generally be a decision made by the team? What a goofball.

Media Selection

Great interview here, I really like Shawn Ryan, here he is being interviewed by Tucker Carlson. Enjoy!

‘A Formula One Offense with a Driver with a Learners Permit’. Seems about right.

“It’s difficult to precisely place the Vikings, who have a Formula 1 roster but a learner’s permit driver,” says Edholm. “After being sidelined with a knee injury for all of 2024, first-year starting QB J.J. McCarthy likely holds the key for this team, which is coming off a 14-win season, but how do you properly rank a talented squad with a quarterback who has just 30 snaps in a preseason game under his belt?”

I remember when he was first drafted. He was a polite, hardworking, friendly young man.
Was that all an act or did the fame/money/drugs change who he was??

This is the time of year usually go but changed it up a few yrs back and go north of Ft Peck 8 hrs to Tobin. I like Peck but in a 7 day trip could always plan on being blown off the water 2-3 days. Admittingly I am a bit of a scardey cat when the waves start rolling. Timber Ck is about 30 miles west of Hell Ck smaller water and spawners congregate there. They’ll be moving to main lake as the water warms. The point at the western mouth of Hell Crk is good also. Peterson point? Got a 28 ” there and a bunch of eaters.

Is trading for Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey possible? Is it a good thing? Cost is an issue, but they might eat some salary. Coach Flo would know best how to incorporate him into the DB.

Maybe a post 1 June deal could be worked out.

When my wife and I were building our log house. I cut dozens of green 3″ pecker poles for railings. Paid my 3 oldest 25 cents a pole to peel them. They all had about 8-10 bux. One of those cheesy carnivals came to town, I took them. A ride was a $ 1.25. None of the 3 went on a ride knowing that they peeled 5 poles per ride and it wasn’t worth it to them. About 25 yrs ago.

When we were young teens my dad got with a couple of friends, bought a lot on the side of a hill, had it leveled, and built a house.

Once the foundation was poured they used us kids to haul building materials up the hill to the site while the dads did the work. From cement blocks for the retaining wall all the way to roofing material we carried most of that damn house up the hill.
It made for a long summer, we did get good lunches and sometimes dinners while we were working so we considered it worth it.

A technologist and her husband gave me the “Horse Race” game for my birthday, he has a scribe to carve out the board and then uses a 3D printer for the horses. My grandkids love the game…started out on Friday evening just using pennies from my penny store (going to do a penny floor in the master shower once I amass enough pennies, the bank is scotch about giving me rolls of pennies so it takes a while to collect 3600 pennies). They quickly wanted to escalate to nickels and dimes as the gambling bug took hold…Saturday morning the grandson helped me hang a couple of shelves in my shipping container…my wife gave him $1.90 in nickels and dimes and I honestly thought that is way too much money for what he did. Haha. He also doubled his money by Monday.

Top 10 Burger places nationally per Yelp.
Never been on Yelp but I know quite a few of the Top 10.

#1 In and Out, It is good. Overhyped, always a long line of cars in SoCal.
#2 The Habit, My personal favorite as it started in Santa Barbara. I used to take my 90 year old Nana there at her request before it became well known.
#5 Islands, Pretty good, different themed burgers.
#7 Five Guys. Went once, never saw a reason to go back.
#10 Red Robin, A family fav back in SoCal. Lots of options and their Onion Ring Tower was always ordered.

The other 5 I have never been too, some never even heard of.

Whoppers are always one of my favorites.
When they had the 2 Woppers for $5 special I would stop on my way to work and get a pair of them. Eat one for lunch and save the 2nd for dinner. Good prison meals.

When I owned a restaurant, I had an eggs benedict burger. It had a fried egg over easy, homemade hollandaise sauce and homemade canadian bacon sliced about a 1/4 inch thick on top of the burger with an english muffin.

I always thought burgers with an egg on them sounded too weird. Then I tried one and they are surprising good.
It was the same with peanut butter. I guess just about anything goes good on a burger.

A little off subject. We were out to dinner the other night and my wife ordered a side of asparagus. It came with a sunny side up egg on top and was delicious.

I enjoyed In and Out when we lived in CA. Super busy for a reason.

Five Guys – I agree with you.

Red Robin – could be really really good, or sometimes it could be meh. Maybe depends on the cook working that night.

For me there are 1,000 of good burger places out there. I am happy eating at any of them. It is the experience and trying new things.
The Habit with my Nana, Red Robin with the Nieces and Nephews, Islands with their different menu.
I don’t go out to eat that often unless we are traveling/vacationing, then it is much about the whole experience than just the burger.

There are still manly sports out there but you have to look harder for them.

Ax Throwing was fun but no place local to Boise.

I read a different article about the AI trajectory and the theme was that since we tend to be an evil society, that AI would just kill off the human race.

We just had a total cover up on Biden and the media is explaining it as necessary to stop literally Hitler.

Not sure how long we have.
