Random Thoughts
I await to see the path of the current storm system as it approaches the Greater Dakota, we could get the brunt of the winter storm, or it could slip a bit south and only partially hit us. Either way, it looks like the white stuff will be falling here (snow, not cocaine). I really don’t care, for a couple reasons. 1) at this time of year, it’ll only be around a few days then it’ll melt. 2) I’m flying south tomorrow so I’ll be hanging out where the highs are in the upper 70s and won’t be home until after all the snow is gone. I have a few hours of work to finish up today, then I’m all done until I come back home. I can’t wait, I haven’t seen Charlotte in 20 years or so, it should be a blast. I did see that there’s a soul food place only a few blocks from my hotel, I haven’t had good soul food since I left Mississippi, I have a hankering for some collared greens.
Vikings Discussion
Mark Wilf announced that they intend to extend GM Kwesi-Adofo Mensah. I know some are going to be upset by this news, with his drafting being pointed out as his main weakness. I agree that his drafting has been sub-par, but I will say that he’s done a tremendous job of building a strong team and has them in a position to be consistent contenders. His drafting HAS improved each year since he began, and the moves he’s made as far as trades and free agent signings have been nothing short of spectacular. Look around the league at some of the clown shows at the GM position, and I think I’m okee dokee with the team giving KAM an extension.

Vikings News
Mark Wilf met with reporters at the NFL Owner’s Meeting, he recapped the team’s free agency moves and expressed his intent to sign GM Kwesi-Adofo Mensah to an extension, from Vikings.com.
\Shannon Sharpe is griping about J.J. riding an ATV without a helmet, per Yahoo Sports. Good grief, go find something else to worry about. We never wore helmets when we were kids, not on bikes, not on 3-wheelers, nothing. I also am 99% sure that I never sat in a car seat one time in my life, we rode in the bed of the pickup, and we probably ran with scissors. Pansies.
NFL News
The “tush push” (I hate that nickname) is the hot topic at the NFL Owner’s Meeting, per the Star-Tribune.
Armed robbers broke into Richard Sherman’s home while his family was home, according to ESPN. I’m glad his family is safe, I hope they catch those SOBs. Athlete’s homes getting robbed is becoming a thing, I’m honestly surprised that they don’t have better security systems, or maybe they do & the criminals are able to circumvent the system. I keep a loaded 12 gauge next to my bed.

Tiger stirred up the golf world today, posting on X that his Achilles had improved to where he could compete at the Masters next week.
Just five minutes later, he clarified it was an April Fools’ Day prank.
Looks like Minn could qualify for a 3rd Comp pick in 2026 if Trent Sherfield WR earns his incentives with the Donkos next year. It would be a 7th rounder evidently.

Twins say a 10 game free over the air for this year with Fox News, local.
Walz predicts 162-0. Guy has to be the biggest moran in America.
GO TWINS!
Home opener Thursday. High 46. Hope concessions can handle crowd.
I hope they have the worst record in MLB by early to Mid June and Rocco gets canned. Would be 4 years too late
Should lower the sale price a bit.
That as well.
rocco needs to be fired SO BAD
Serious question, is Mr. Walz keeping up with the governing of the state or is he on a leave of absence touring the country discussing what he can do to lead the country in 2028?
Prob thinking 2028 but i’m sure he’d run for governor again in 2026. We have no term limits. He will destroy the budget to buy votes i’m sure. I still can’t believe how he enjoyed Tesla stock when State Pension Fund had 1.6 million shares. Beyond stupid.
Maybe he cashed you out prior to bashing TSLA and then bought low! Genius! (oops wash sale rules apply)
The more that idiot talks the more i like.
I saw an article asking ‘Who Would You Stay At #24 For”? My answer is either Emmanwori, S or Barron, CB. Curious what other opinions here are even if most of them are going to be wrong. #grin
Article on Emmanwori.

As far as KOC, overall he’s been a decent GM, his trades and FA signings, letting Kirk walk, have been solid decisions. His drafts have improved but still, that first draft was one of the worst every, got ripped off by Detroit, drafted three busts in the first 60 picks, which is impressive in a way as GMs who suck generally pick sometime in the first two rounds draft someone that’s on the team the third year, kinda like how a blind squirrel nuts on a broken clock at least once a day. But he was much better the last two years, ultimately he will be judged by how JJ develops
i didn’t realize KOC was the GM…
idiot
You just don’t understand Ben’s abbreviations.
Kwesi Of California
Damnet, I sometimes mix up KAM vs KOC!…
miss you. would love to see you around more..
Will do, been busy
They all look alike.
I have made that mistake before so I won’t pile on too much.
That said I was a Moran when I did it as well.
Well, they look so much alike it’s easy to do. Could happen to anyone.

Regarding the poll my answer is always the same if given the option…
Ahhh good ol Burleigh and Morton counties keeping that lower middle of ND strong! 🍻
Don’t know about this map. Traveled the country some and folks seem to drink it up pretty well just about everywhere.
Doesn’t say how they defined ‘Excessive Drinking’.
‘Figures don’t lie but Liars figure’.
Iv read/heard in the past the line for excessive is more than 2-3 drinks. And I think thats low, but thats also perspective based. If you were never raised or exposed to people who drank growing up, 2-3 drinks might make you hammered and if you heard someone who usually needs 10-12 drinks to be hammered, say hey I had 3 drinks last night, they’d still think you have a problem even though you barely felt a buzz.
my wife and I got a breathalyzer, so we could better understand our drinking, the effect of food and time, and how it impacts our blood alcohol content.
We reached the realization that if I stop after 3 OR she stops after 2 we are fine, and not even “toeing” the line here in PA. So it makes us feel more comfortable drinking and driving.
One caveat to people: you can still not feel real buzzed and still be over the legal limit. So we decide ahead of time, who will drive so they can set the limit. Then at home, we break out the bourbon
Correct. And everyone’s body is going to be different and metabolize alcohol differently. Which is why having a vague .08 BC be the end all be all for EVERYONE is stupid imo. Should people drive drunk? Hell no. Have I done it with a BAC over .08 before, yes, many times. Did I feel I was ever out of control or come close to an accident? No. Its a slippery slope.
Thats a nice system you and your wife have.
Just a caveat, while you might develop tolerance to the effects of alcohol, the effect on the BAC is the same whether this is the first or the thousandth time you have drank. So the alcoholic who drinks four beers right after work and then heads home has the same BAC as the first time drinker, and both would likely be over the legal limit (assuming they are the same weight).
A lot of heavy drinkers discount this fact.
I dont discount that the BAC is the same, but its affects on abilities and motor skills will vary greatly from person to person. The hard line at .08 needs to be explored more I think. We need more data or newer studies. How long has .08 even been the standard?
Not that long. It was 0.10 until the feds forced 0.08 about 10-15 years ago. In my lifetime, I think up until about 20 years ago, it was still legal to have an open container in Montana. Now they just sell single cans of beer at the gas station and everybody pretends they’re taking them home before opening them. Wyoming still has drive thrus you can get mixed drinks at.
I have been drinking since about 2009ish and I feel like it was .08 back then already too because I also had my license. I got pulled over once at was at .06 but they ran me through every field sobriety test in the books before they did the breathalyzer. And I nailed every one. Stood on one foot for 90 seconds and I looked at the guy and im like, what are we doing right now? It was a younger officer that looked like he really wanted his first DUI. Fucker.
Until very recently, what you blow into on the side of the road is not an official breathalyzer. It is just a PBT that is not admissible in court. I think within the last 5 or so years DOT has started certifying some for use. What I heard once upon a time, was that a PBT is only used after a decision to arrest or not arrest is to be made after SFSTs and then the PBT is just a for fun verification of your decision.
Yeah I think the only one thats admissible is what you blow back on the big one back at the station. (giggity). So I passed literally everything and they still acted like I was in the wrong, “where you are going after this?” – It doesn’t fuckin matter and its none of your business should have been my response but I told the truth and said home because it was midnight.
You can fake some of the tests, but you can’t fake the eye test. You were probably iffy on the nystagmus test so they kept pressing.
Iv passed the eye test twice. Once I was standing on the side of the road when it was -40 out. I think he was tired of standing in the cold and wind as well.
Since 1998, when Bill Clinton signed it into law after Congress approved the bill. States could be higher but then they get no federal funding for highways.
I can tell you with virtually 100% certainty that the limit will never be adjusted higher than that. So save your taxpayer dollars for something of more benefit to the population than “I use alcohol more than 95% of the population so I should get a special drivers license with a picture of a martini glass next to the vision endorsement connoting I can drive as well as a sober nun with a BAC of 0.15%”.
Now that you say that I remember hearing that fact in highschool that its up to the states and they dont raise it because of the funding.
And that was a thing?! #bringitback
If you can, you should.
This explains why Puker fans paid for a piece of worthless paper and think they are part owners of the team.

Turn your uncle in for elder abuse. 😂
That was just plain cruel, shame on him.
My wife’s uncle once called his son, who designs bridges, and told him to turn on the news. He said the bridge he designed collapsed. The phone fell to the floor and his DIL picked it up and asked what he had said. She said his son was in the bathroom throwing up. This was shortly after the I35 bridge collapsed.
There is a myth that the Iron Ring (that many Canadian engineers wear) was initially cast from the remnants of the first Quebec bridge (which collapsed due to poor design and oversight by engineering).
Found this golden oldie from the UofA, my alma mater. Oh man do I remember these chants during geer week, as the different geer clubs followed Lady Godiva around. The old concrete toboggan club. Helping my geer buds join the 40 beer club…phew.

Recipe Alert!
Saw a meme a lot time ago of a cartoon character (Family Guy?) where his patriotic neighbor was going on vacation. When asked where he was going the neighbor said he didn’t know yet. Said once he got to the airport he found out which flight had a John Wayne movie on it and that is the one he got on. Said “John Wayne is not taking me anywhere UnAmerican’.
So when I saw a recipe for John Wayne Casserole I thought of that and figured it had to be good if it was named after The Duke. Made it last night and it was better than expected, we have to add it to the rotation of meals I make.
https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/8444531/john-wayne-casserole/
That sounds great. I sent the recipe to my wife (she’s at the gym). I want to make that soon with her. Thanks for sharing!
I had to go shopping as a few of the ingredients are not things we normally have around. But The Teacher agreed it was well worth the effort.
Yeah, we’ll have to pick up the bell peppers and the biscuit dough, but we have everything else. Gonna be fun.
Thanks again.
For me it was the biscuit dough and the whipped cream cheese.
I was going to try croissants (which we had) instead but thought for the first try I would stick to the recipe.
Smart… wicked smart… Harvard smart…
Thought you liked SoCa? I wouldn’t call a friend “harvard smart” anymore.
I obviously have been disagreeing with him too much lately. I will have to tone that down.

Yeah… I guess times change JR…
Don’t you go accusing me of being Ivy League!!
You crack me up SoCal…
If I tell enough jokes some of them are bound to be funny. It is the law of averages.
Let me know how the recipe turned out.
Laughing… cool SoCal. I’ll definitely let you know how the recipe turns out.

Looks like we’re going to run the ball more this year.
We were a ‘run first team’ last year.
1st down, a -1 yard run more often than not.
Not according to KOC.
I am very hopeful he gets the run game going effectively this year. Finally.
He can spin it his way and I can spin it my way.
We don’t live in Europe so we still have free speech.
Laughing… OK big boy…
‘OK big boy’
Is my webcam on again, dang it!!
Better than ‘OK little fella,’
Way better.
The Teacher agrees.
#grin
Common theme and most teams claim they want balance and a good run game. Do you really think KOC wants to run the ball, or fling it down the field. We do have an elite receiving corps – seems like a shame to waste it some.
The Vikings haven’t had a good run game since Shurmur left. I think with our two additions to the O-line, we might be in a better position to run the ball. We have two very good RB’s now too. I have been so tired of watching us try to run the ball and end up in second and 11 or more.
Zebra can’t change his strips. KOC loves those intermediate drag and crossing routes.
Yes please to helmets while riding an ATV.
Looks like the NFL is changing the regular season overtime rules for the upcoming season.
In 2025, both teams will receive a possession in overtime during regular season games. It’s the same overtime format the NFL used in the postseason in 2024.
If the first team scores a TD in the first possession in overtime, that won’t end the game. The other team will get an opportunity to score a TD, and tie the game. The next team to score wins, or if at the end of the 10 minute overtime period the teams are still tied, the game is a tie.
That seems fair.
And while they’re at it, get rid of tush push. The Eagles have an 86% success rate with it, and we need to beat them to get to the SB.
i’m good with this rule change. I don’t think it’s very fair that the fate of overtime rests on a coin flip. give both teams a chance.
I am good with the rule change, but still prefer how college games handle OT
In light of the snow, I will also be making comfort food tonight, I invited the guitar play for the band im in and his GF over for supper, gonna try my hand at home made chicken and dumplings. Seemed pretty straight forward *shrugs*
Musician. As long as you have booze, the food will be fine.
I got some wine and spirts to make a cocktail or two, still told em byob.
My wife wanted to get me a Malinois puppy “to keep me busy”. I declined.
I was at a Belgian military K-9 training session once, a long time ago. I saw these dogs do things that were completely amazing. They offered me the opportunity to put on the suit, and feel what it’s like to take on one of these dogs. I was like “yeah… no thanks”.
I think it would be awesome to have one of those babies latch onto your arm. My Labs sometimes try to lead me around by the hand.
My lab insists on biting me any time I pet him. Just me. Everybody else he’s chill with. For some reason when I pet him he thinks it’s wrestling time.
The choco we rescued just before his second birthday still revs up a growl like a motorcycle engine if I grab his back legs while he is eating – only happens when the older choco is eating at the same time. When he does that I put my hand over the bowl and make him just chill until his brother is done eating. The older choco that I raised from a pup will tolerate any indignity I can think of while eating, has no aggression whatsoever. The rescue and I do get in some epic wrestling matches at play time after training time.
‘epic wrestling matches at play time after training time’
Is that before or after the ‘anal gland expressing’?
The facial expressions of a dog when that is being done are epic. “I need to report this to the authorities.”
man, that is so funny and accurate.
Our labs were sweet, but did get stupid at times.
They are impressive dogs for sure. Seeing guys jump out of a plane with a dog strapped to them is awesome.
You better have lots of energy and a ‘safe space’ to keep them.
They are incredibly smart and physically able to do things that no other K9 can do, some of which are seen in the video.
I wish I could have one but I know my limitations.
Very good synopsis. They are not a good choice for the majority of dog owners.
Dogs are not a good choice for a lot of people. Look at the pound populations. 😔
Best part of the third John Wick movie was the dogs.
Nice puppies.
What you did there I see it.
And approve.
That’s gotta be the most athletic breed of dog, my goodness what a fur missile
I’d rather they wait to see how Kwesi like a Fox does with the draft, but I am not super married to that opinion.
the trouble with waiting is you need at least 24 months to evaluate draft success. Right now, 12 months after the 2024 draft, we can’t say if it was great or terrible.
To me the real question is, how long do you extend him. I would either make it a short extension, or wait until next winter to decide
That is fair. I could live with that.
i think it’s hard to forget the disaster that was his first draft….
the trades he made were HORRENDOUS and then the players he picked were also horrendous.
that being said, i think he is coming into his own. He has put together and is putting together a competitive team, and i think it’s fair to extend him for possibly the duration of JJ’s rookie contract, so what 3 more years? that’s his QB, he will live and die by JJ. if he he turns out to be a franchise QB BOOM, if not, bye bye kwesi
That is a probably a good distillation of the situation. If JJ is the real deal, it erases a lot of mistakes.
I kind of halfway include Hock in Kwesi’s list of miscalculations. What the heck do we need a $17 million TE for…unless he is Gronk or Kelce?
Then again, I went through the Jermain Wiggins years, so my perspective on TEs is probably warped.
yeah i’m with you on that Hock situation BUT…..he might be exactly what JJ needs this year as a safety blanket…
But i think Kam and Koc are setting JJ up for success getting a really good 1-2 combo running game going and then solidifying that Oline (hoping we still grab a viable option in the draft to build depth).
I’m very excited for this year.
I would argue, that if Hock had the same receivers as Gronk and Kelce, he would have elite numbers as well. I can see the argument that we do not need an elite TE, with the receiving corps that we have.
Once again, Freezy is SMRT
He’s learned from his mistakes, IMO. Drafts have improved, still room for more improvement. He’s built a hell of a team, signing good contracts, and he’s the guy who hired O’Connell. I look around the league & we could be doing much worse. Can’t think of anyone who’s available that I’d take over KAM right now.
agreed…
which is why i thought it was absolute insanity when there were “reports” about “no one knows who is in charge of the vikings”…
of all the teams, the vikings are one of the best organizations from the top down, in the entire league. such nonsense.
Yup, nonsense.
I’m still leery of every draft he runs, but his fixing our cap situation helped make up for mistakes, imho.
It’s nice that he didn’t overpay Kirk or Sam. I’m glad he stood his ground there.
Which makes all the Waaron Rodgers reports phucking re-G-D-diculous.
I think we’re WAY over the cap already next year, so he hasn’t fixed the cap situation yet.
That’s easily cleared up with a couple cuts or restructures. Hitman won’t be on the team next year, Hock will either be gone or restructured, etc.
I agree like every other team in the league that we can clear cap space in the future. I’m just saying he hasn’t “fixed” the cap situation yet.
Considering where we were that situation is fixed.
Going forward with managing the cap that is just normal business in the NFL and most major sports to get the most out of your assets.
Well, we’re ranked dead last in the league next year for cap space, so you can polish that turd any way you want.
And you can ‘stink it up’ anyway you want.
Guess we can revisit it next year and see how big a problem it is then.
I’m not stinking anything up SoCal. Just stating the facts.
You can take your facts and I will take the truth!!
#grin
Laughing
So not worried about ‘next years cap’.
I have no doubt that there is a plan in place and the financial guys have their spreadsheets all worked out and things will be well in hand by then.
We have a strong roster and only need depth pieces in the draft, no glaring weaknesses. I can live with that.
No need to borrow problems from the future.
recon the collard greens opinion
And I live southern food, just not that
Yep collard greens no, but green beans cooked in bacon or pork fat all day is hard to beat. And then there’s real southern cornbread, fried chicken etc.
I love southern food, I loved living in the south.
i chuckle at how regulated car seats/buckle up etc is now…
i remember going on family vacation/road trips and my dad would take all the seats out of the van (minus the front seats obviously) and we would all just lounge in the back on the floor and make beds etc…
that same van also didn’t have a working radio/cassette player, so we brought a battery powered radio/cassette player with and rocked tunes that way.
it wasn’t until i was an adult that i realized we were poor as kids. but my parents always made it seem like we had more than enough.
And now you have a lake house.
Truly, in America, anyone can make the dream come true!
MULTIPLE lake houses
Honestly, that seems unusual…you are WAY younger than I am and I can’t recall my parents ever letting me ride without a seatbelt on. One becomes their father eventually and now when my grandkids are riding with me, and they are in the habit with their dad of doing the following…they take off their seatbelts when we hit our private road and I immediately stop and make them put them back on. No farking way they’re getting tossed around the interior should the vehicle veer off the road.
Don’t remember ever using a seatbelt as a kid.
Eventually in the Army we were all ‘safety aware’, but not before then.
I was an Army brat…was a big no if the gate commissionaire spotted you without a seatbelt, my dad would have been reported if he was the driver and would have been called when I was the driver. Plus much of my youth living in FDR I was told that if the Polizei spotted a kid not wearing a seatbelt the driver would have their license revoked.
MPs didn’t play around.
Unless they caught Officers Wives driving home drunk from the club of course.
Don’t either. And in my early years, little before you, cars didn’t even have them.
my kids have their seatbelts on maybe 60% of the drive from minnesota to bloomfield
You know better. You don’t want to be that dad sitting in the waiting room outside the ER.
I’m only 50 and I never wore a seatbelt as a kid. I either road in the back of a station wagon or the back of a pickup. For a while when all we had to drive to church was a VW bug with 8 people, I would ride in the little area between the back seat and the engine compartment.
Sounds safe and warm!
I never wore a helmet, either, cuz they weren’t available when you and I were kids. I sure AF wear one now.
Wore a Helmut in the Army and occasionally at the prison.
Fell and banged my head as a kid (as you all can probably tell) riding piggyback on my older brother when he tripped. Lots of blood, pretty scary to a young me.
Helmuts have their uses, and I have little doubt that they are overused now a days.
How are the ribs feeling today? On good drugs? Can you use those while you are working?
The ribs are slowly getting better…on Saturday I took 2 ibuprofen after supper and 2 acetaminophen at bedtime…Sunday nothing…did a couple of biopsies yesterday where I had to reach over and was smarting in the evening so took two ibuprofen again. Slept really well last night finally.
No, I could not do my job on narcs. I’ve actually never taken narcs or anything stronger than ibuprofen for pain, and taking ibuprofen more than once a year is unusual for me. So just goes to show broken ribs do sting.
I was given codeine before but it never did anything for me.
Now I treat aches and pain with Contempt unless it keeps me from sleeping, then a take ibuprofen.
Haha.
Found a couple of advils, glass of red wine and a piece of chocolate work quite well.

I am tired of the snow, and do not have the luxury of taking a vacation at the moment.
Soul food sounds amazing.
Yes, the Vikings should sign Kwesi to an extension. Best GM in my memory for the Vikings, and he followed the worst(Rick). Rick was even worse than the “gang of 12” that tried to run things. And I put the Kirko signing and especially the first extension as the second worst decision in Vikings history. Only thing worse was the Hershel Walker deal that helped build the stupid cowpies into a contender with all the draft capitol lost.
KAM is learning… He’s getting better… you can see it from year to year. Even the drafts are improving. If we can hang on for another 3-5 years… well… I’m anticipating a very enviable position for the Purple…
Years ending in 7-9 are the sweet spot, so we are getting there!
agree 100% to your comment. He has gotten better.
Promoting Les Steckel instead of Jerry Burns in ‘83 was right up there. Dumb dumb dumb.
