I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. We went and hit some golf balls yesterday at the driving range, first time I’ve picked up a golf club in over a decade (not including mini-golf). We actually had a really good time, I could see us doing that more often. Who knows, we might even mess around and play a round before winter. If nothing else, it’s a good opportunity to enjoy a cigar.
We also scored some pretty good deals on some football cards this weekend. We found graded rookie cards of Jayden Daniels and Joe Burrow, they’ll be a nice addition to the collection.
Vikings and NFL News
Justin Jefferson landed at number 9 in the NFL’s top 100, per Vikings.com.
Also from Vikings.com, Anthony Barr returned to Minnesota to retire as a Minnesota Viking. Barr was a big piece of the defense that Zimmer built when he arrived in Minnesota, where he transformed the league’s worst defense into one of the league’s best within a year or two. I still remember the draft, the Vikings drafted both Barr and Teddy Bridgewater in the first round that year.

From Belcher Report, the Packers’ Micah Parsons status is in limbo as he deals with a back injury.
The Steelers signed Jaylen Warren to a contract extension that will keep the RB in Pittsburgh through 2027, per NFL.com.
CBS Sports gives us a ceiling and a floor for all 32 NFL teams in 2025. There are some real head-scratchers in here. LOL, they have the Bears floor at 8-9, I guess they haven’t been watching much football over the past couple decades. They also have the Vikings’ CEILING at 10-7. The writer of this story must have been intoxicated, either that or they’ve never watched football before.

Braxton Jones will start at left tackle for the Bears in Week 1, per Ben Johnson.
Jones has been with the Bears for four years. He is coming off a season-ending leg injury that happened late in 2024, but lots of folks expected him to return to his position as the starter again this year, after holding it down the last three years.
That said, Jones hasn’t lasted a full season since his rookie year in 2022.

I actually think it’s a fair argument either way. As a former baseball pitcher, understand getting tagged with W-L record. You can pitch really well and your teammates don’t hit, you lose. But once in a while you pitch poorly and your buddies bail you out. Think later is rarer as if you pitch poorly, your out of there rather quickly.
Yeah JR, people critical of QB’s don’t take into account that they don’t throw a perfect pass every single time. It’s impossible. But when a QB has 101.2 passer rating over 91 games, THAT’s impressive.

Electric bills are pretty nuts. I do everything i can to open windows. Fans placed right help. Hell, 4 months of winter i don’t want to shut in. Warm, sticky summer this year and AC needed to sleep.
Yup, its been a muggy one for sure, one of the most wet July’s and Augusts I can remember, usually its bone dry by now haha
Love the windows open on nice cool nights, but I can’t stand muggy air. I sweat fairly easy and will run the ac every day if I have to. I refuse to sweat in my home.
In my castle, the queen rules the temperature. I have about as much control as I do the outdoor temperature. Many a time (including last night) after running the a/c during the day she proclaims about 7 pm aha it is cooling down outside time to open the windows. I have previously to my peril pointed out that it is still 80 degrees outside while inside it is a nice 74, which means the temp will rise a couple of degrees once she opens the windows until finally starting to fall around 11 pm, but the queen shall reign forever. I just get even by getting all snuggly with her until she proclaims you are hot(!) and turns on the ceiling fan.
Just wait. Few years down the road it will be minus two outside and she’ll want to open the windows cause she’s too hot.

Wednesday for Sunday games, Thursday for Monday games. So Thursday. Oh yeah, people will be on there, but I always wait and see what the last practice brings.

Short version: I’m an idiot.
Worked on the Riviera over the weekend. After a few months of working on a mild flooding issue and taking a quadrajet apart 4 times, I finally discovered that my fuel pump was putting out too much pressure. 9 psi fuel pump, quadrajets apparently only like 6. Had to call a place in Arizona to special order a lower psi pump. All that frustration over a $30 part that I should have checked a long time ago. SMH.

That’s why it’s good to step away from a problem and let it marinate overnight. I am so guilty of trying to fix a problem no matter what before bedtime and just royally f’ing things up. Then I wake up in the morning and think of for chris sake all I had to do was blah.

Been on many cruises. Thankfully, I do not have any clothing with Pineapples on it. Seen the same articles and I dodged a bullet without intention by never buying tropical clothes with pineapples.
Now that you mention it I have some Hawaiian Shirts with a tropical theme.
I will have to check to see if any Pineapples are on any of them.
For our family trip to Hawaii in January my wife bought me one to wear. Wore it once there, thought I looked a little silly, and haven’t worn it since.
I wear one out shopping, usually with a pair of jeans.
I often get positive comments on them.
But then it might be the pineapples. #grin
You can often get a good deal on silk Hawaiian shirts at the local Costco in Hawaii…probably made in China…doesn’t really work for me though, I am more a cargo shorts and t-shirt guy.
My German Girlfriend once complained about how you can always tell who is an American in Germany because they all wear ‘jeans and t-shirts’.
I thought about it and agreed, it was/is too easy/lazy. I will wear polos, Hawaiian Shirts or button up dress/casual shirts when I go out in public.
T-shirts and shorts are great for working out or around the house.

I say this because this weekend we stopped at an old (female) friend’s house and she and my wife were yak yak yak yak while I quietly sipped a water. At one point they mentioned family discord and I discussed my sister and half-sister’s latest bric a brac. Now we all know MT stories can get long but I will say word count in the hour we were there was wife 10000 friend 10000 me 2500.
Nonetheless the rest of our bike ride I got a little mini lecture about how my story was so boring and what was the point of bringing it up. I tried to argue the word count argument but that was futile.

Wondering about the Parsons reported back injury.
Is that an existing condition, the reason Jerry was willing to trade him? If so why wasn’t it found in any physical FTP did pre-trade.
If it happened post trade was he not in good enough shape due to his holdout or just a freak accident.
I have doubts and questions about the whole situation.
He had the same agent as Jalen Ramsey did when he was traded to the Rams. Remember how Ramsey had an “injury” that whole pre season until he was traded then he was magically healthy? I think thats whats happening here. However, if its not, and he actually has a back problem…thats hilarious.
Actually, Parsons was complaining about a back injury to not practice and “hold in”, so it was known. What wasn’t known is if this was a TJ Hockenson type play for the contract/trade.
I guess his back really was hurting.

I’m just trying to make it past week one. The last two years, I’ve been knocked out in week one.
I was able to take advantage of a 4 day weekend. I power washed 2 houses and painted all of my exterior doors including the 2 garage doors.
I think I got this labor day weekend down.
That’s a lot of work.
It would probably take me a 4 day weekend to power wash just one house.

I didn’t do a ton. Got my boat motor almost installed, ate lots of good food, and not much else. I did coach football last night, got some good running in.
I did get to sit on a pontoon in the middle of a lake yesterday afternoon.
Man, I’m really hoping that I get this boat motor operational by the fall walleye rush.
I’ve never swapped a boat motor before. As a matter of fact, this boat is the first watercraft I’ve ever owned that didn’t require a paddle.
I want to figure it out myself, although I may call in a friend who has more knowledge to give me a hand.

On my long weekend I slayed the 3 foot high weeds in my shelter belt, ran the trail mower down the road to clear out the road side brush, and courted a 80+ year old neighbor for her acreage. I give a mean foot rub, get those bunions purring.
You remind me of a teacher I had in the Army in Texas.
His ‘normal/regular job’ was as a collage professor.
Then he worked evenings teaching night courses to Soldiers, where I met him.
Then he worked weekends taking his tractor/mower around to clear brush/etc as another side job.
Tell you what, get out on a 90 degree day full sun, wearing shorts and a t-shirt and a pair of Corcoran jump boots, knocking down tall weeds, tossing them over the fence. Get covered with pollen and dust and scratches all over. You better believe a shower feels heavenly after that.

Best thing about those is the toe/heel and the ‘spit shine’ you can put on those.
Other than that there are lots of better/more comfortable options out there.
Tried to wear them working in the prison, they worked during Academy Classes but not so much actually doing the job.
I actually consider them my most comfortable boots. I wear them bird hunting a ton. I polish them from time to time when the mood strikes me but they take a licking and keep on ticking.
What did you wear at the prison? Something comfortable on concrete floors has to be a good product.

I tried Nortiv boots and was happy with those. More comfortable wearing boots I found to be heavier which was too much for 16 hr shift.

I didn’t get any ‘real work’ done.
I pushed really hard on my power walk on Sat. 12 miles with weights, 250 cardio load. I was still feeling it yesterday so did a lighter workout.
The rest of the weekend were minor chores, collage football, reading and good food.
I was pretty worthless, although I got a good workout in during football practice last night. Also, kiddo and I went on our hiking trip, which was a lot of fun. Kiddo and I have also been getting up and running at 6:30 am every day.
I was in Sioux Falls Sunday for the Life Light music festival allll day with kids, at least most of them are old enough to be unsupervised. Got lots of walking, food truck food, and actual good music in. I was tired by the time we got home at 1:30 in the morning.

Pick ‘Em League is just picking the winner of each game each week and assigning confidence points to each pick.

I like making picks during the week. It is a fun little distraction and makes me feel like I know more that is going on than just what the Vikings are doing.

I’m senile
I was tempted to take the Bengals again, but they’ve knocked me out in week one the past two years, not gonna let them do it a third consecutive time.
They got me as well two seasons ago. I think then I picked the Chiefs over the Lions so there was “no way” I’d get knocked out the first week, at least.
Aaaaaand, I got knocked out…
I thought about Chargers over the Chefs, it seems like KC struggles week 1 every year.
I think Washington over New York or Philly over Dallas are the only 2 safe-ish bets this week.
Vikings over the Bears!
In the pickem league I took the Vikes over the Bears with 1 confidence point.
I’m pretty confident the Vikes will win, even if the game is in Chicago. I think I used 10 points on that game.

I lean Bears at home with a Vikings QB who hasn’t played one real NFL snap.
It’s not a hard lean for me. I believe the Vikes could win, but I think even Vegas is vaguely leaning toward them losing, last I heard.
Broncos at home over Titans is what I’d probably do. I try and stay away from division games.
