Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts

Wow, it’s a crazy week here……again. Hey, it’s much better than being bored.

I can’t remember whether I shared this with y’all or not, but this was the back porch and yard of a foreclosed home. It took me two solid days to clear this garbage out, but it looks MUCH better now.

We’re cleaning ceilings, walls, and floors inside the house. It must’ve been a heavy smoker living in here, because the ceilings upstairs are all very yellow, especially the master bedroom. I’ll share some pics tomorrow when I get back over there, it’s crazy. Gonna be a nice place when we get done, though. This one will probably sell for $375,000 or so once we get it cleaned, I’m actually thinking of buying it & flipping it.

Vikings & NFL News & Updates

At Vikings.com, they break down film on QB Kyler Murray.

The Sporting News points out that the Vikings can trade J.J. McCarthy in order to move up in the 2026 draft. If they’re moving up to nab Jeremiah Love, I’m okay with trading almost anyone. Almost.

The Sporting News also reports that the Vikings are interested in bringing back WR Stefon Diggs. I’m for it, I’ve always been a fan of Diggs.

From Sports Illustrated, Rob Brzezinski hints at the Vikings possible approach leading into the draft.

\NFL.com reported that Giants DT Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade, as he and the Giants have failed to agree to a contract after two years of negotiating (likely longer). The All-Pro would look fantastic in purple.

George Pickens and Aaron Rodgers lead the top of CBS Sports list of current non-draft NFL questions.

Media Selection

I know I sometimes post goofy things up here, but today, we’ll keep it a bit more serious. Enjoy!

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.
  • Twitter sized version: Be cool to one another.

Greenard to Chiefs trade proposal.

Vikings get #9 and #109
Kansas City gets #18, #163 and Greenard.

Or do you like the version that includes former 1st Round Pick (#31), Edge Anudike-Uzomah, 6’3″, 255?

I made no comments about Cousins today, wasn’t even here. For the most part, I let NLV argue with the four or five of you who “dislike” him so much, Unless, it gets way overboeard.
Not sure what you mean by “NLNFV hate” – what do I call it? N ot sure, but if you are referring to the countless and endless red flags he gets for saying anything – that I think is chickenshit.

The new grading system for profootballnetwork.com/mockdraft is pretty wack.

They had this massive Edge, Keldric Faulk, Junior, Auburn, 6-6, 285 lbs rated in the top 10 and he fell to #18, highest ranked player at that point. So I figured I would draft him and see how the draft worked out. PFN gave me a D grade for the pick, 1st D I have ever got from them. If they thought so little of him why did they rank him Top 10??

‘Faulk’s upside and potential are through the roof, and he has to be someone that Brian Flores will be pounding the table for, perhaps even loud enough that he’ll be the selection when the Vikings are on the clock’

I have been doing different drafts going for BPA for us. In the 6th & 7th rounds going for projects that have the tools but might need a year or two to develop since they won’t be starting for us anyway.
The PFN Grades never give me better than a C+ for those picks. I don’t draft for their grades but I find it interesting to see what they have to say about my picks after the draft.

Well the draft prognostications by all the experts are a shape shifting effort that constantly changes right up to draft day it seems. I don’t watch a lot of college ball, so I read a little bit about these prospects, with the understanding that what I’m reading is someone else’s opinion. I never take anything for rote. Until a prospect sets foot on a real NFL field, against a real NFL team, what they have done in college is just that. What they did in college. You can glean a lot about sheer athleticism in college. In the pro’s everyone is the best athlete though. So being a great athlete is sort of a starting point. It’s what a player has between his ears, above and beyond athleticism, that sets him apart.

Laughing… actually Brady loves Cousins.

Way back in 2012, the Patriots had 3 days of joint practices and scrimmages with the Redskins. After the last practice, Brady was asked what he thought about Washington’s new QB, RGIII. Brady said something nice about Griffin, but then he said something completely unexpected. He said “I’ll tell you who I’d keep my eye on is #12 (Cousins) because he can spin it”.

Correct. College. Since he turned pro though Brady has been completely silent. So has Harbaugh. He was great in college on a team that ran the ball way more than they passed it, and played great defense. Clearly that only translates to a couple teams in the league. The Ravens and the Eagles.

Career year in Stats maybe.
Broncos are solid, so are the Chargers. Even the weakened chefs will be a challenge this year for the Raiders.

I think the Raiders are fighting for 3rd place in that division vs the Chiefs.

No longer New Vikings Fan
Reply to  Surly Viking
7 April 2026 12:39 pm

So a QB can have a great year, and his team can still be a loser. Good point Surly, and accurate.

In 2021, Kubiak was the Vikings OC. That year, Cousins played in 16 games. He threw for 4,221 yards (263.8 yards per game) with 33 TD’s and 7 int’s, garnering a 103.1 passer rating for the year. The Vikings still went 8-8 in those games, and 8-9 for the season.

I believe Cousins with Kubiak is likely going to work for the Raiders. Cousins has had 9 OC’s in his career. I doubt he’s enamored with all of them. I know he likes Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay. He obviously also likes Kubiak, and speaks highly of him. Moreover, he decided to play for him again.

GM John Spytek has been busy. Three-time Pro Bowl center Tyler Linderbaum is now anchoring the offensive line after four dominant seasons in Baltimore, where he blocked for a rushing offense that finished top-two in the NFL four straight years. That’s a massive get for a line that ranked 22nd in both run and pass blocking win rate a year ago — the same line that allowed Geno Smith to get sacked 55 times and turned what should’ve been a functional offense into a dumpster fire. Protecting Cousins is pretty much job one at this point if you want to have a potent offense, obviously. Rick Dennison is the O-line coach BTW, and he’ll be the guy charged with bringing some credibility back to that line.

Last year, the Raiders scored the fewest points in the league. They averaged 14.7 points a game. Winning teams average at least 23 points a game in general. Kubiak has shown he can do that.

All that said, just because Cousins has a good year, it doesn’t mean the Raiders will suddenly vault from 3-14 to 14-3 as Surly intoned. A winning record would be a massive step. 11 wins? I think that’s a reach. 9 would be a miracle really.

There are no such things as meaningless stats Surly. Stats reflect production, and QB production is vital to keep teams in games. Without solid QB play, teams get blown out routinely. Cousins teams rarely get blown out, because he puts up solid production. Over his career he’s amassed over 44,000 yards and almost 300 TD’s (5th most amongst active QB’s in the league). Cousins always gives his teams a chance to win, and has led 34 come from behind, game winning drives which is over 20 percent of all the games he’s started. He’s shown he’s clutch, and productive. So you’re disdain for him doesn’t make sense to me.

So you’re disdain for him doesn’t make sense to me.

I have explained my sometimes irrational disdain for Kirko several times. I paid a lot of money(for me it is a lot) to see the Vikings play twice in 2018. vs Buffalo and Chicago. Two of the worst QB efforts I have ever seen in my lifetime. Including paying to see Ponder and early Teddy play.

I vowed to never spend money on anything Vikings until he was gone.

His contract and the vikings brain trust failing to populate a team around him (because of his exorbitant pay) were the largest sources of my frustration with the guy.

Seems like a good enough human. I never want to see him on a team I am rooting for. For the money he was paid, he needed to be on par with Brady or Manning, and he is not.

My opinion. I understand it is not completely logical. I am still happier with Fragile McPonder on a rookie deal over Kirko and more of the same.

Millions of dollars paid, trying to finally get over the pain of the NFCCG loss to Philly, and all we as fans got was bad to terrible play when it mattered. He is neither clutch nor productive compared to the pay he is getting.

Ask most ATL and Vikings fans if they are happy with the results of the Kirk years. Resounding NO from most.

Fans are foolish as you readily admit. Cousins had the Falcons ridiculously amateurish offense producing, they had beaten Tampa twice, were leading the Division at 6-3, and were a foregone conclusion to win the Division, before the Saints severely injured Cousins throwing arm in week 10. He eventually had to be replaced a few games later, because he simply could not make throws anymore. 9 months later, Cousins said he was at a 7 or 8 health wise. When the Falcons were at 6-3 the fans were ecstatic though. In 2025 Morris declared Penix the starter without a training camp competition. After that terrible season under Penix, where his production was absolute shit, while Cousins sat the bench, Morris was fired.

People who claim Cousins has been overpaid, fail to accept the quality of his play. They totally discount his production, and act like he sucks. As you say, that is irrational.

Hmmmm Cousins had a ton of fans who screamed “Captain Kirk” at games in Washington. I was actually at the games, so I heard all the fans cheering for him first hand. The people who didn’t “like” Cousins were of course RGIII fans who were mad that he was a bust. The media hated Cousins for the same reason because they were the ones telling everyone that RGIII was going to be the greatest QB in the history of the NFL. Except he wasn’t good at playing QB in the NFL, and Cousins was excellent at it. The team President (who sold the farm to get RGIII) was so mad about it, he called him a career backup, and referred to him as Kurt. But he franchised him not once, but twice. How bad is a player you franchise twice? Through it all Cousins went out there and played really good football, just like he did here for six years. The fact that people “down” Cousins after he played great football, show real issues with their rationality. Cousins is fine man, husband, father, and player, but he gets kicked around by “fans” he somehow disappointed. Laughable and ridiculous in the extreme.

I’m assuming that’s a duplex in the words up top, what’s the other unit look like? I’d hate to be the neighbor.

Yes, looks like the duplex.
Are those a set? I would hate to own a home only to find out that half the house is owned by an A-hole like the one who left that mess.

Alcoholism sucks. Wish my stepson would kick it but I’m sure he thinks he has it all under control.

‘Alcoholism sucks’

I can attest to that having grown up with one.
But it is a self inflicted curse, much like obesity.

Interesting… fraud is being acknowledged now. Things are changing in the country, slowly but surely.

Logic by a Federal Judge??
It’s nice to see, obviously Minn didn’t shop around well enough before launching their suit.

The judiciary is clearly compromised with leftist judges releasing criminals to the streets after egregious crimes without bail, allowing them to further inflict harm on others. They also act politically, which is a terrible state of affairs for the country.

I think there are lots of good judges but we never hear about them.
Some of those are handcuffed by Woke/Dims/Libs/TDS local politicians who make the laws that they have to work within.

I found the media selection very entertaining. Thank you. I’ll be passing that one on.

And yes, it’s a very serious video.

If Kirk would actually work on Tuesdays and he saw this he would be very upset.
