Vikings News and random things
Well well well. That was fun! Two nights in a row I stayed up too late watching exciting football. Great to start the season with a road division win. No question the team missed Darrisaw and Smith, but they seem to have more depth than years past. For the first three quarters things looked bleak, especially for the offense. I thought the defense played well for most of the game, but really stepped up in the second half. The defensive line started to get at Williams and had a big impact. The running game of the Vikes finally showed up in the fourth quarter, and of course, since it is Tuesday, we can discuss the QB. JJ balled out, never looked panicked or frustrated, and made plays down the stretch. This is what a winning QB looks like, Vikings fans.

Good game on a shit field. A W. Other than Casman think we did ok. Cashman!
Think we knocked some dust off.
JJ can run pretty well but don’t want a Caleb or Lamar. Very risky.
None of his scrambles that I recall last night would be thrown into risky territory. Thats just my opinion. Take what the defense gives you, if your WRs are covered or the pressure is coming, get rid of the ball or get out of there and run. I know were not using to having that option but its time to embrace it with a QB that can do it. That designed run for a TD was awesome.
Darrisaw please be back for SNF home opener, I dont think I can watch another full game of our back up LT, please and thank you.
Some local media think no. At most limited.
Off topic. RIP Iryna.
There’s some sons of bitches walking our streets i’d like tortured to death.
Back to football.
This is great…
“I know he has a new driver.”
(as she “models” a putter 😂)
That comedy bit is from Brian Regan, really funny guy, been a fan of his since I was a teenager.
Bill Engvall does a similar bit.
Guess I’ll have to check him out, because this made me laugh pretty hard.
Love Bill Engvall.
As a golfer, this really hits home. I’d like to have a 20 for evert time coming home and wife asked what did you guys talk about today.
Why are women like that?
Recently drove with my brother on a 8 hour trip…when I got home that is exactly what my wife asked…What did Bill know? How is Bill and his family doing? What did you guys talk about?
I had a one word response….sports.
I have no idea – after all these years.
My wife comes home from lunch with her girl friends, I don’t ask what’d you girls talk about.
Perhaps some of that is indifference, but there’s also a part that says don’t get her going. And girl talk is …… well you know.
I just laughed hard when I saw it. If ever there was a humorous way to look at the differences between men and women, this is it.
Didn’t see whole game. Thoughts on #67 Skule.
Skule played like a journeyman backup – he was not very good.
Thought that from what i saw. Have a couple guards on PS. Maybe give them a look.
To quote Sargent Schultz: “Rouse! Rouse! Rouse! Rouse!”
It might be time to bring in the dev OT, Walter Rouse.
He got worked like a rented Mule, and I was firmly in the belief in the first half that KOC was stupid to not start Darrisaw on JJs first start because him getting wrecked from his blind side was going to dash his confidence, I was glad I was wrong.
LOL. Sums it up.
KOC did that to build JJ’s character!
😂 I guess, if getting flustered in the pocket builds character. JJ did go through SO much in one game, the lowest of lows and the highest of highs. I think that showed more growth and will benefit him more then if the Vikings scripted plays just worked all game and they scored easily. Pressure makes diamonds.
tom brady threw a pick six in his career….
JUST SAYING
Time is a flat circle
He got schooled…a lot.
Damn good pick. Now get Darrisaw next to him.
That makes a tingle go up and down my leg….
But Kwesi cant draft???
Just lucky.
KO coached him up.
…insert reason Kwesi doesn’t get credit…
Dat boy strong
He runs hard down field also.
Good for run blocking and screens. Which this team will need
One comment I haven’t seen yet – how many balls were batted at the line of scrimmage? Wasn’t that a huge knock on Cousins? I could see that being an ongoing issue with his low, fast throws.
Yes, a criticism that pops up from time to time on JJ is that he doesn’t know when to “feather it” and would rather throw the hard low liner…
Indeed, those were definitely a problem early on, specifically with crossing routes or to WRs settling into zones in the middle of the field. Will have to work on that. He CAN put touch and loft on throws, the TD to Jones was a perfect example.
I agree – that throw was great. Was good to see he can do it, just needs to be more consistent.
Think his throws were like 3/4 like, not sure. Need to look closer.
I just read some of the earlier comments, I see KirkTuesday arrived without my prodding…
Some people can’t let him go…. Have to bring up comparisons and take shots at someone they are glad is gone and supposedly never want to hear about again. lol
Johnson and Aikman thought refs unfair to bears. Cry me a river.
Lol yeah, those idiots said “I didn’t’ see much there” with the hands-to-the-face call where it was quite obviously the correct call. Incredibly biased idiots.
Disagree.
You didn’t see the hands to the neck that slid up and pushed the lineman’s head and facemask back? Okay.
That was absolutely the right call….I just meant in general the Bears had some calls that shouldn’t have been called against them.
Fair enough. I missed about 1/3 of the game, so I may not have seen everything. I just know Buck and Aikman are biased idiots from previous games (and some statements that I saw from 2/3rds of that game even). If we were the Packers making that comeback, I think they both would have lost consciousness due to excitement.
No arguments on those points for sure.
To be “fair” they were “unfair” to the bears. I would be crying bloody murder if I were a Bear’s fan.
As a Vikings fan It’s just weird being on this side of the officiating ledger.
I agree. For example I thought the RTP call on JJ was weak sauce.
And an offensive holding call, and a pretty ticky tacky PI call…All went against the bears.
“massive uptick in NFL kickoff returns in week 1”
well duh?? they aren’t kicking into the endzone for touchbacks anymore. why would this be an actual article worthy thing??
this sucks
Guessing back after bye week 6. Maybe.
While chasing that slippery bastard Caleb last night. Greased up deff guy. He ran out of like 9 sacks in the first half.
He is a slippery little bastard for sure….we are fortunate he is not an accurate passer and doesn’t read the field well.
Like I said earlier, it would help if we tried to grab him when tackling or didn’t dive at his feet constantly.
Yup, he missed some open WRs for sure
Looked bad. We are kinda due for a few injuries this year, statistically.
Have to admit when 17-6 i was pissed and turned channel for a while. Came back to 20-17. I still have the maturation of a kid when watching the Purple.
We are watching adults play a child’s game…It is appropriate for an adult to act like a child while doing so.
BUST.

He wears his hat backwards.
It’s proven that doing that means you are a bust.
According to Coward.
Think JJ has a shot at being pretty damn good. Remember early in year fins wanted to trade Tua and i think a DB for him.
Potential is there.
Definitely shocked me in the 4th quarter after the first 3 quarters.
Seeing JJ be all rah rah at halftime, I was starting to think he needed to tone it down and effing show it.
That is awesome to see. Can you image what Ingram’s grade would have been? -14 probably. I don’t know if PFF gives negative grades, but he would be one to get it.
That is awesome.
Looks painful.
Might be worth it though.
JFC that’s funny!!! 😂😂😂
don’t know how to post the video. This gave me a chuckle.
https://x.com/GopherHole/status/1965257799149223974
Lol. That is a big ol’ yikes from a last years’ standpoint.
But how good is Picah Marsons?!
He’S tHe GoAt
It’s a new year Baby!!!
Seems about right.
‘The FanDuel Sportsbook have installed the Vikings as a 4.5-point favorite over the Falcons for their Week 2 matchup in Minneapolis. The over/under for points currently rests at 45.5.’
Good Morning Footballs reaction to the game.
More good stuff, longer at 12 minutes. Worth the time IMHO.
our defense looked like they were on ice trying to wrap up fingernail polish mcgee, i wonder if they will be a point of emphasis heading into week 2 vs another qb who can run
KOCs locker room speech after the game last night.
Good stuff. Just 3 minutes.
I’m waiting for the GIF to show up of the look on JJ’s face after that TD toss to Jones.
No quit in this guy.
this was his face when kwesi told him they were trading SO MUCH to get dallas turner who was….non existent again last night….
also please sign van gink to a lifetime contract
Actually, they traded so much to potentially move up to get a QB.
Since they didn’t need to, they drafted Turner.
But yes, so far, he has not lived up to the first round status.
‘so far, he has not lived up to the first round status’
Hard to do with Ginkel and Greenard in front of him.
Who knew that those two would be so good.
Good point.
ATL was laughed at for not taking Turner and for taking Penix.
They actually look competent today. Penix is performing well, and Turner looks good in practice.
I wish I could call into Colon Cowturds show…
Hey Colon, do you know the definition of “dictate”? How does JJ McCarthy’s dictate?
I’d never get past the call screeners cuz I’m too stoopid to think of a fake question that he’d want take.
Did anyone have a Lifer moment and quit the team during the GDT?
We had some doomers, 0-17, we suck, etc moments but no full mentally ill meltdowns.
Seems understandable. We cruised from my bil’s place in Mica Bay on Lake CdA over to Rockford Bay for dinner at Shooters, had to sit out on patio so I couldn’t see the game on TV since it had already started at what seemed like 4 pm SoCal time.
some of the homes on the lake are upwards of $50 million, lots of Cali owners. Get to see how the other half lives. Boated by Gozzer ranch, saw the Great One’s custom wooden Coeur boat which probably cost 2 large alone.
I save my Lifer moments for real life.
I genuinely enjoy the ebb and flow of moods during games. It’s part of the human experience!
I never had any “Lifer Moments’ in real life. Life has given me some rough times like when my brother died leaving a wife and 4 young kids. But there was no time for ’emotional breakdowns’ as people needed me to help them solve real life problems.
Oh my, sorry about your brother and great job stepping up for his family. He would be proud.
‘He would be proud’
I hope/pray that he is.
I learned early and often that as a Man ‘no one cares about what you feel they only care about what you do’.
Words that have shaped my life.
For sure – deeds and actions.
I think deeds and actions is the best indicator of everyone’s (including women) character. People’s feelings don’t change reality, and unfortunately lots of people think their words prove to others that they are “good”.
It is also true that feelings are a part of being human, and how we process those is important. If people are emotionally charged and can express their feeling and the response from others is understanding without “you are bad” judgement (doesn’t mean agreement or sympathy), it’s like psychological air that de-escalates emotion.
Feelings are a side issue for men, they might use them to drive them to protect and provide for those that they care for.
I am talking about ‘virtue signaling’ or using feelings in place of actions. Modern society is trying to emasculate men/boys and tell that masculinity is toxic. Men need to raise boys to be men to channel that energy into meaningful actions.
Completely agree about virtue signaling and the (I think intentional) emasculation of men by the left, and that boys need male role models.
My son in law is a good guy, you would all like him. However, he never expresses his feelings, which leads to a lot of internal stress. His father, who lives in Dallas, is dying and took a turn for the worse this weekend. My daughter tries (I’m fine is all she gets), but he won’t talk about it, which eventually leads to a blow up or at least being a grouch. (He never does anything physical to her or the kids, but does yell at them sometimes.) It would really help him and would be OK for him to tell her “I’m sad about my father dying”.
So being a ‘good guy’ and handling with work issues, providing for his family, dealing with a dying father is not enough he also has to deal with a wife poking at him, to ‘share his feelings’?
I suspect he has had negative reactions to ‘sharing his feelings’ in the past. Girls/women love to poke at boys/men and then hold their reaction against them. That is my experience at least and I have heard/read the same from many other men.
Wow, you never had anyone, even a male family member or friend, to talk to about being sad when you’re brother died?
My daughter’s actions this weekend were being extra kind, doing all of his normal chores for him, plus her chores and all of the errands for the kids including taking the kids to church without him so he could have some peace and quiet in the house, asking him if he wanted to go to Dallas, etc. However, since she asked him how he was feeling, she’s a witch.
I did not call her a witch, I am glad she is doing her best to support him.
I grieved for my brother in my way, actually sitting in traffic and crying after I heard a story on the radio about a man who died ‘who was a good man and father’ which brought up all all the feelings. That was almost a year after my brother passed.
I discussed my brother with all of his family/friends. They needed it so I helped them. It was about them at the time not me.
I must admit I texted my son at half and said 6-11. My wife also reminded me this morning that at one point I wanted KOC fired for the team being unprepared. I was much better last year. Kind a surprised myself last night.
I can’t do GDT’s
I never had a doubt we would win – it’s the Bears after all. Now I was a little pissed in the first half because we were playing poorly, but still felt we would win. Even after the pic6.
I decouple winning and playing well.
My wife stopped watching after the pick 6 and went to bed. When she got up this morning she asked me how bad it was. She had no idea the Vikings dominated the 4th quarter.
Me “This is what happens sometimes when you have a QB that can handle pressure”
Sure looked like he handled the pressure good in the first 3 quarters…. haha.
But for real, it was a great turnaround to see. That being said, Kirk has the biggest comeback in NFL history, and he made some big-time throws with people hitting him or about to hit him, so I don’t think you can say he “can’t handle pressure”. I don’t know why people have those false narratives…
Additionally, it’s one game. Let’s see how the season goes before we crown him the new MVP.
All good points.
If Kirk could consistently handle the pressure, he would not currently be a backup QB. There are always outliers, but if you look at his entire body of work, you will see there are more failures like check downs or sacks in big moments vs the very good 4th quarter or game winning drives. I agree that both have happened. He is still a backup QB, and the Giants are starting Russel Wilson for goodness sake.
I stand by my statement. We have a QB that will not shrink and crumble in the biggest moments.
That is new for the Vikings. Teddy could certainly remain calm in a storm, but he does not have the arm strength needed. JJ does.
He will have bad games, I am sure. I am also sure that he will easily be the best QB this team has had since Zombie Favre or a healthy Daunte.
Realize you hate Cousins quite a bit. But at least three (maybe four) of you ‘thoughts’ are grossly over statements or partial facts.
Now JJ may turn out to be great, but I’ll wait to be “sure” (I’m a conservative) until I see maybe a second quarter of good play.
Some very bold statements based on 1 game (and like JRobert said, literally 1 actual quarter of really good play). I would still argue a lot of failures in the past were due to terrible line play in those situations vs the QB being unable to handle pressure, but regardless, I get what you are saying. Still not willing to crown JJ with anything at this point and won’t be for a while.
Sure. Let’s call JJ better than Mahomes and all buy our SB champion shirts for the next 4 years in advance. I’ll take the orders. $40 per shirt. How many do you want?
Both things can be true. Kwerk technically has those things on paper, but doesn’t have the wins to back it up. I love how you still hold on to that sad ” Biggest come back in NFL history” from 3 years ago like its an actual good thing to hang our hat on. Awful 4 win AFC opponent at HOME trying to tank for the first round pick in December. Thats not a narrative. Thats the reality.
Kirk has never and will never have the mental poise that JJ showed last night and he would NOT have come back last night in THAT environment and under THOSE circumstances. Period. End.

We’ll never know. You can pretend you know what would have happened in an alternate reality, but I could just as easily say that Kirk would not have been down that far in points in the 4th quarter and would have been winning by 2 TD’s at halftime. Easy to speak in hypotheticals.
I like the young kid and have high hopes for him. But this is about narratives – fully truthful or not.
JJ played solid in fourth quarter and we won. Now correct me if this is not true, for the first two and half quarters, maybe three JJ was under “pressure” (what this is about) and didn’t shine at all. First half, one pass completion beyond 4 yards of LOC. Third, under “pressure” threw a pick six.
Then we started running the ball and pass rush pressure went down. And he started playing well. Leave Cousins out of this, believe Nick Mullens could have made those throws and there was nobody there on the TD run.
Actually I hate doing this. The haters bring Cousins into this and I am perfectly fine with the way JJ played last night in his first game. Just not sure about the “pressure” thing yet.
So funny how Cousins always has to be brought back up. They hate him and want to be done with him, but can’t help but keep dissing him and bringing up the conversations. Haha
Agreed. It was great poise to come back and win the game, but he’s also the person that had them in that position. He’s essentially still a rookie, so I’ll cut him a good amount of slack, but I’m not willing to say he will never crumble under pressure or is better than Kirk from just 1 good quarter lol.
At one point in the 3rd quarter I asked the universe if Queasy might have saved Darnold’s or Kirk’s phone numbers… but I got better.
‘I got better.’
Monty Python Auto Rec.
Never think those thoughts again okay? Have some faith.
I’ll try not to.
Sunday night game Hun. You can’t catch a break.
It is what it is Chief. I was glad I could watch the game, would have missed an instant classic.
I’ll be watching again next Sunday.
You were getting pretty down there for awhile. Freezey wasn’t far behind. I think DE just quit. There were a couple others. I told you it would be fine and all work out. You should see some of the texts I got from a co-worker last night though. He really was going full Lifer meltdown mode.
He said JJ sucks because he’s not as proven as Josh Allen. When I pointed out JJ hadn’t even played a whole game yet, he tried to dis me by reminding me how high I’ve been on JJ. That was some nice crow to serve him at the end of the game.
Yeah, my wife was telling me all offseason that the Vikings should have drafted Bo Nix instead of JJ. I reminded her that KOC played qb, and had his choice between the two.
JJ will be better than Bo Nix, and Penis, and Caleb Williams…not sure about Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye…we shall see.
Drake Maye doesn’t scare me either. He’s never going to be more than up and down and a mid qb. Jayden looks good if he can stay healthy and the league doesn’t figure him out.
I didn’t quit.
I went to bed.
After the 1st 3 quarters I was very much doom and gloom, definitely. Then the 4th quarter happened… and I got better 😅😂
Cashman and Okudah out for at least a week each? Cashman has a hammy issue. Okudah has a concussion.
Up next……
Yes!
By the end of the game after listening to JoJo Buck, I had the sickening thought, “What happens if JJMc is Joe Bucks’ new man crush?” Can Colinsworth be far behind?
Dear Coach O’Connell,
Recently my cardiologist expressed concern over several episodes of heart stopping activity; activity traced back to my following the Minnesota Vikings. Together, we came up with the following prescribed changes to the viewing experience:
If you think about it, if you played the possessions in reverse the Vikings played a dominant first quarter followed by an almost complete meltdown in true Zimmer fashion to let the Bears back in the game.
Signed a devoted yet pessimistic Vikings fan.
PS JJ’s passion and resilience was great to see.
SKOL!
my heart was legit racing the last few minutes no doubt about that.
I don’t like the approach we take to preseason. I don’t like preseason in general. I wonder what scrapping it would look like at this point. Training is down to a science at this stage. About the only thing preseason has left is giving guys on the bubble a chance in the spotlight.
Instead, take all the bubble guys, put them in a stadium with baseball bats and say, “The 100 who walk out of here will be put on an NFL team.”
#5. So many wide open receivers the whole game it seemed. I think if Williams was better seeing open receivers (and hitting them, ala Moore should-have-been-TD), we would have been in trouble.
I’m glad we have the Bears game in Chicago done and won! All in all, with as many new guys as are on the team, I am pleased. For whatever reason, Myles Price in the kick and punt return game impressed me.
Price was very good yesterday.
Caleb Williams is a slippery eel. It was nice to see the defense figure out how to contain him in the 4th.
I heard a Bores Fan call him ‘playground Caleb’ last night.
The question is can Ben Johnson fix him or is he going to go the way of RGIII?
Substituting silly painted nails for silly colorful socks.
It helps to tackle him using your arms instead of your face or diving at his feet. There should have been 3+ more sacks.
Also, our punt returner was fun to watch.
He was really good.
Our coverage team needs a lot of work.
Yeah, I thought they were going to run a few back against us.
Happy victory Tuesday skolbros and girls. That was awesome last night. It’s only 1 game, but we may finally have our qb! I’m happy for the young lad.
I’ve got meetings most of the day, but I just came to say:
You all knew I was stressed, but wow KOC turned it around and got better in the 4th. I think he should just get rid of these cutesy run plays, throw more quick slants on 1st or 2nd down, and not call long-developing crossing routes on 3rd & 5+.
Happy he and JJM figured it out.
i was VERY surprised with the first 2 offensive series….
seemed like KOC told JJ, ready the defense and call the play. in a hostile environment, first game ever etc….just seemed WEIRD
after week 1, i think my favorite offseason signing is Eric Wilson.
He had a great game, and now that cashman is hurt (hammy, probably out a couple weeks), it will be great to have him
I did notice Wilson. He seemed like a gamer.
Agreed. Wilson looked fast.
That 4th quarter was a thing of beauty. Game pretty much went as expected, defense did their best to keep us in the game and really stepped it up in the 4th, offense came to live after struggling – mightily at times – in the first half of the game.
JJ seems to be a winner, happy for him that he got the W in his hometown, on Monday Night Football, in his first ever start in the NFL. Comeback win to boot.
This kid could be special. SKOL!
I was very worried the defense would get gassed and start giving up more yards than earlier in the game. But they got stronger it seemed.
They ruled the 4th qtr.
Gave JJ (QB) time to work it out and come thru.
Had the same impression, our guys kept grinding on defense while theirs looked slower and slower as the game progressed.
I think we are a little deeper defensively, but I could be wrong…would be interested in Dline snap counts for each team.
I wonder what Colin Coward will say today after dissing JJ for the last 5 months.
“He sucks because he wears his hat backwards”
🐄💩
Sorry, I dosed off when DJ Moore got injured, but woke up after we went up. Great 4th quarter. Let’s do that for 4 quarters against Atlanta.
That’s why they play 4 quarters…..
Ugly start, great finish. McCarthy very much looked like a rattled rookie early on. Felt like simple procedural stuff was slowed, bogged down. Clearly needed to simplify things a bit. Once they did, he took off. The moxie is real. No lack of confidence. That pick 6 would’ve been a backbreaker to most young QB’s.
Very impressed by the defense, especially the interior line play. I can see why they were willing to move on from Phillips – Hargrave and Allen both looked good but I thought Redmond, TID and LDR played pretty well – especially Redmond, his development has been fun to watch.
Lucky to walk away with only Cashman’s injury. Worth pointing out this team won without its best offensive lineman, it’s defensive QB at home with a mysterious illness and its WR2 serving a suspension – very excited to see what this team looks like at full strength.
Happy to see McCarthy get his first win against his childhood team. Hopefully the first of many. Love that the kid starts his career with a primetime game and shined when the lights were brightest in the 4th quarter – might work to change the narrative about this team and its quarterback play in primetime games – maybe, it’s a long, shitty history. But right now are guy is 1-0 in marquee matchups.
Victory Tuesday is pretty sweet. Hope yall have a great day and last nights win keeps a smile on your face all damn week.
Your Minnesota Vikings are 1-0

SKOL, Brother!!
Two nights in a row where I go to bed with one team seemingly in complete control, only to wake up to the other team winning.
Going to sleep on the Vikings is not recommended.
“Where would you rather be?” Pretty cool.
J.J. McCarthy Had Epic Five-Word Message to Teammates Before Vikings’ Comeback Win
Game 1. A lot of growing to do.
Caleb Williams is very hard to tackle. But. he still sucks, missed a lot of open receivers.
Great job by the Defense keeping us in the game and finally getting momentum on our side in the 4th quarter.
Williams was very inconsistent. Started hot and then was erratic. I liked it.
The facts support the narrative.
He sucks.
How can a guy who paints his fingernails be a leader?
I’m afraid that by the time Caleb Williams figures out how to be a good QB, he will be injured from all of the running he is doing. Reminds me of RGIII.
Or be a reclamation project by the Pukers once they realize that Jordan Love (the new Kirk Cousins) is not a top-10 QB. 😬
Victory Tuesday feels pretty good 😊
First half = barf. Second half = team that can be in the nine-wins ballpark, plus or minus a couple depending on luck.
Caleb couldn’t handle the pressure DL started getting on him. If DL can do that to every QB, that is a big plus. Offense looked better once Mason started running better.
Maybe the reason Jefferson has the dropsies is because McCarthy throws low fastballs. The ball went through JJ’s hands on his two misses, like the ball was there faster than his instincts are tuned. Turn up the dial on the Juggs Machine, Jefferson.
McCarthy looked lost the first half. Better in the second half. He seems to have a bit of gunslinger to him. Looking forward to getting more data on him.
Yeah, Jefferson missing those catches was frustrating to watch, especially the 20+ yard one that went straight through his hands and looked like an easy catch. Hopefully that improves with game speed adjustments now that we’re in the regular season.
I believe all of the receivers were saying the biggest difference between JJ and the other QBs they have played with, was the ball gets to you a lot faster.
But we were told that JJ (QB) has a ‘noodle arm’ by the ‘experts’.
Good morning. SKOL!
