Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
It’s New League Year Eve, and the Vikings have been busy since the ‘legal tampering’ period began yesterday. So far, the Vikings are retaining the services of their own free agents Aaron Jones, Byron Murphy and Ryan Wright. As far as additions, the Vikings are rumored to be adding (these moves cannot become official until tomorrow at 3 pm central) center Ryan Kelly (thank God), former Eagles CB Isaiah Rodgers, and former Browns CB Bubba Bolden.
Offense
Kelly will be an immediate starter, as the move to bring him in will spell the end of the Garrett Bradbury era in Minnesota. Bradbury was a first round pick of the Vikings, and while his run blocking has been adequate, his pass protection performance has been subpar at best. The addition of Kelly will be a massive boost to the O-line’s pass protection, which should help J.J. McCarthy learn the ropes of the NFL QB position. The team will likely still look to upgrade one or both guard positions, but improving the center position should help immensely.
Defense
Murphy will obviously start, while Rodgers and Bolden will be solid depth players in the secondary. Rodgers will likely fight for a spot in the starting lineup as the second or third CB. Aaron Jones was a good signing, in my opinion, and I hope it is a sign that the Vikings plan to use the running game more and become more balanced on offense. I think Ryan Wright will likely compete with another punter to be added later, as he has dropped off a bit in the couple years following his strong rookie year.
Thoughts
I like the moves so far. If you go to Twitter, you’ll see the annual gnashing of teeth because the team isn’t signing ALL THE FREE AGENTS!!! Many fans think that the best thing to do is to go out and spend like a drunken sailor, and if you don’t, you’ll miss out on all the good players. I believe that teams who go out and spend big early tend to make mistakes that cost them dearly this year and into future years. Most of the annual ‘winners’ of free agency don’t see that translate to wins on the field, and they see their cap space dwindle in following years.
To me, it appears that the Vikings are being prudent, adding pieces when they are cost-effective, and are keeping future years in mind with the contracts they sign. It seems to me that the team is effectively looking to build a team who can be a long-term consistent competitor.
I’m also glad that I’m not a fan of the Cleveland Browns.

Our old pal Sam Darnold has a new home in Seattle, as he signed a juicy contract to be the Seahawks new signal caller, story from the Star-Tribune.

The Texans are trading Laremy Tunsil to the Commanders for a couple of day two picks. I’m not sure what the Texans are doing here. QB CJ Stroud struggled a bit in his sophomore year, with pressure being cited as a main cause for his struggles, so I’m not sure that trading one of the best left tackles in the league is a good idea.
The Falcons released DL Grady Jarrett (having a $40 million/year backup QB may have contributed to that head-scratching move) and the Bears are rumored to be signing him, according to Yahoo Sports.

wow didn’t see that coming, Any body else?
Makes sense for the Ravens I guess, 6 million is a bit much, though. Lamar can use another weapon.
Dang it, I loved Trent he was always the first one to the ball on punts.
Free agent WR Trent Sherfield is signing with the Broncos on a 2-year, $8M deal. Decent guy, but not a game changer. No loss here.
Good special teams player.
He gave 100% when he was out there
Busy day on here. I wish there was someone that would do a summary.
Taylor Swift gonna trade up…
Best thing he’s done for the team.
Hey, we finally got something out of Kirk!
Not bad. As good as a compensatory can go.
What are the odds Kirko claims he wants to retire a Brown if this happens?

Go get Mecki Becton!
Hurt too much and a 1 year wonder.
I agree on the hurt part. I think he found his niche at the guard spot. Watched him maul and ball all year and thought he played pretty well – was dominant at times.
Gotta be better than Ingram
Brandel will be the left guard most likely.
I think that is likely as well – and I’m fine with it. He was solid, didn’t see him as the weak link in the line. They’re older, but Kelly & Fries are both immediate upgrades imo
Being surrounded by Kelly and Darrisaw will only help too. No sense in dropping more money there. Get secondary help, another RB or roll the cap space to next year and have the ability to sign again. If they’re solid i don’t see a problem keeping a little in reserve for an unexpected injury or to replace a player you thought would be better.
Plus, if you keep rolling a little forward it could help with future contacts, like Addison, and keep this team in the hunt for the long term. They don’t have to go crazy all in. They’re all in enough now for me to be happy, now just make it a long term deal.
Starting to hear rumors about the Vikings trading for Sauce Gardner.
Trade like in picks? Doubt we have bodies for it.
No idea. Maybe they need a center. Bradbury for Gardner sounds fair to me.
Yeah soundsss good to me too.
Bradbury for a kicking tee.
Bradbury is a decent to above average run blocker….just too small to take on the big boys in the middle on pass protection…..I do believe he would be better than a kicking tee however.
Keeping JJ healthy is a priority.
The Jets have Fields now who is used to not having an o-line so Bradbury would be a perfect fit.
Where are you hearing this?
The voice inside his head can be very convincing.
Fair…..
Source?
The internet so it has to be true.
I heard that rumor a couple of days ago.
But I bet it’s a no, now that Murphy has been paid.
Site doesn’t seem to update comments. PFF says Seachickens OL graded out 31st in league last year and now losing offensive weapons. Think he’s going to miss ours.
^^Sam
Poor sam.
@wont be his fault@
Well, that didn’t take too long. The Canadian province of Ontario has backed down after threatening to levy a surcharge on electricity to three U.S. states as Trump threatened to double the tariff he has already placed on Canadian goods.
#Leadership
Haven’t seen that anywhere else…you sure that is not fake news??
found it
After Trump threatens new tariffs on Canada, officials agree to renegotiate USMCA | CNN Business
Fake News would never report anything that would in any way make Orange Man look good.
The Trump administration will “immediately” restore intelligence sharing and security aid to Ukraine following the announcement that Ukraine backs the U.S.’s proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia.
On Tuesday, official representatives for Ukraine and the United States met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to discuss the possibility of a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.
It will go into effect immediately — as long as Russia accepts the plan.
Hopeful Putin reacts correctly to this opportunity.
Nice Job President Trump!
#but but but Biden must have laid the ground work for this now Trump is getting the credit#
I used to tell Lifer that Trump was the greatest President I have ever served. He hated when I told him that, and of course argued the point. I reiterate to all, he is the greatest President in my lifetime.
Better than Reagan in your opinion?
Yes. I definitely liked Reagan, and he ended the Cold War and recovered the economy, but Trump is head and shoulders above him.
If only Trump wouldn’t talk like such an egotistical 14 year old. I pretty much like all of his policies but if I have to hear “I am the greatest president ever, no one has ever done things that I am doing” I might throw up.
Trump fires for effect, and in the end, he always backs it up. I like Trump’s assertive/aggressive nature. I like that he kicks sand in our adversaries faces. I like that he always deals from a position of power, rather than getting down on his knees and begging people to work with us. I like the way he presents himself, and the way he talks.
BTW he is much different in private.
I like and appreciate all of those things too….except his self-aggrandizing speeches.
Better than that shit show last for years. Hope Dims keep their bullshit up and get ass kicked in mid-terms.
Really it’s 2 things:
He’s desperately trying to retake the Russian territory currently under Ukraine control and might not accept a ceasefire until that’s done.
The real test is whether or not he STICKS TO a ceasefire this time.
Yep, we will see if Trump’s machismo does the job “Putin has never broken a promise he made to me, he would never do that”
Says our humble president.
Putin is a very bad person. Evil even. His big sticking point though is not about retaking Russian territory. His sticking point is what Zelensky was trying to achieve all along in the war; being a part of NATO and garnering security agreements from Europe to protect his very corrupt nation from Russia. Putin does not want NATO on his doorstep. Yes, there is a lot more to this, but in the end, Ukraine wants to be a part of NATO. Unfortunately the NAZI influences, white supremacists, and criminal organizations that run the country make the rest of the world sick to their stomach, so NATO isn’t gonna budge on their rejection of Ukraine.
Rank these 4 possible Back up QBs by who would like to see The Vikings get.
Mac Jones, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Carson Wentz…..
I will go first.
None of those guys thrill me…
Well no, but according to sources who know sources, thems is kind of our options….
They’re backups, they shouldnt thrill you. Depending how long JJ would be out if he got hurt, you arent going anywhere worth while anyways if they are forced to start.
Last year he was out all season…
Correct. And God forbid that happens again (i doubt it will) then the Vikes arent going anywhere far with a backup QB having to play all season. If the QB thrilled you, they would be starter, is the gist of what im saying.
I disagree. Minshew could do everything (and more) than what Darnold did.
ah….no
I don’t usually disagree with you NLNV, but no.
Minshew has guts, craftiness, mobility but not arm talent. No, he could not do what Darnold did last year.
Minshew doesn’t wilt under pressure. I agree Sam has better arm talent, but Minshew doesn’t have a weak arm. He could take this team to the playoff’s.
Yes, from that perspective he could do what Darnold did last year, get this team into the playoffs and lose in round 1. I do not think the Vikes would win 14 games with him though.
Teams win games. The only piece of the team a QB directly affects is the passing game. One aspect of the teams total output. He does not win or lose games all on his own. If a kicker misses a chip shot field goal to lose a game, it’s not the QB who missed the kick. Anyone who claims the QB carries a team, has never played the position, and knows nothing about team sports in general.
Yes, that is why there is such a long list of great QBs who have never made a championship game.
There is a very long list of NFL QB’s to have never made it to a Championship game. To even make it to the NFL a QB has to be great. The NFL requires more skill and ability of an athlete than fans understand. There are 32 starting QB’s in the NFL, out of thousands of possible applicants. If you play QB in the NFL, you are an amazing athlete.
GREAT QB’s coincidently, play on great teams. Name the QB that ever made it to a Championship on a bad team.
It would be a fun ride, but, I would have to see some starts and same eye test things before I would go that far with it.
I watch QB play far differently than a typical fan does, which is why I told folks Sam could do very well in our offense, with the right guidance.
Minshew has the requisite tools as a QB, to put up solid performances here.
Flacco
NOOOOOO
Other options include Brissett, Trey Lance, Cooper Rush, Tyler Huntley, Heineken, Drew Locke, Mason Rudolph. I want no part of Mariota, very little interest in Wentz. Mac might be ok, but I don’t think he’s a much better option than Wentz. I think the best would be to get somebody with some good experience and Flacco would fit the mental bill if you go in assuming JJ is going to play the whole year. He’s been the MVP and won a SB. Heineke is kind of intriguing as well. He’s been around awhile now, had some success but also failed. He could play a game or two and I could see him being a good mentor.
Yes, but Flacco is just too old. I would rather have Wentz than Flacco or any of those other guys. Minshew would be fine if available and it sounds like he will be.
I’m thinking of raising honeybees (two hives) as a hobby…not this year obviously but next year. Mainly to help maintain the bee population. I put in a call to a local guy that sells honey to see if he’ll let me watch him check his hives a couple of times.
Anyone on here raise bees?
I plan to when I buy land, or at least that’s what I’m going to tell FWP is the reason I planted all the sainfoyne.
At least in my neck of the woods, don’t have to worry about FWP snooping around what is planted…for that matter I don’t have to do anything to encourage those evil deer from sniffing around…they love the alfalfa. Only time I ever see FWP is (almost) every time I launch or retrieve my boat. Have never encountered them in the field and 90% of the time I miss the little sign they have set out when I drive by the local check station with a bird or two on ice.
MT the rule breaker! I knew there was something shady about you.
I need to turn myself in to Deer Lodge ASAP.
I am telling you, their check station is at the lake I swim my dogs, just outside of town on Hwy 16. The sign announcing the check station is like six inches square, and because of the trees around the lake you can’t see them until you are past the turnoff.
Oh well, those pheasant hens sure looked like roosters when I shot them…
living on the edge….how much fine is it if you would get caught with birds you are not supposed to have?
Depends on how many and other factors. Are we talking over limit, wrong sex, out of season, raptors?
wrong sex.
$75 first offense for harvesting a hen pheasant.
I actually shot a hen once when I missed the leading rooster and hit the trailing pheasant, which was a hen. I actually guiltily dug a shallow grave while looking for any evidence of binocular lens flash on the horizon and placed the hen in it. A buddy of mine told me I should have just dressed it out…but you are supposed to leave evidence of sex (ie a leg) attached and I bet that carries the same fine.
yeah, for 75 dollars I might just take my chances…..Also, you need to be a better shot.
Not me, but I did enjoy this movie…
How’s the bear population in your neck of the woods? They will destroy hives with some sort of Ft. Knox type of protection.
None around here. I did want to ask the local guy if he fences around hives to keep cattle from knocking them over. That and mice are the only mammals I can see that would disturb the hives.
Caroline Levitt was asked at the The White House Briefing today about ‘Big Egg’.
“Egg Prices Plunge Nearly $2, Now Lower than When Trump Took Office”
They are insanely expensive here…they are like $3 cheaper a dozen in Billings. Crooks. I’d consider putting in a coop and raising some chicks but they are just gross.
We have had chickens for about 20 yrs. They are indeed gross but one gets used to it. The quality of eggs, especially once grasshoppers are out, is simply phenomenal. I can buy farm raised eggs locally and only keep chickens now because its a hoot checking for eggs with my 18 month grandson. Each day is like Christmas, it doesn’t get old.
Indeed given the ‘hopper infestation we have over here I love the thought of the chickens devouring the little bastards…but then they shit all over the place, lay their eggs in random place, devour chicken feed the remainder of the year, generally annoy my dogs.
It’s so stupid. This whole thing is just another situation of it only matters when it supports my side. When Trump lost the first time so many people were taking pictures of gas prices and egg prices etc… just as documentation to see how much worse it is under Biden. Every time gas or any prices rose even a little bit, posts about how it was 100000000% Biden’s fault why prices were going high but crickets when it happens under Trump. Then Dems always had an excuse or were just silent as shit under Biden when prices rose on things and now they won’t shut up about it… ugh…
BTW I am not saying you are that way but just the majority of garbage I see on social media and such.
Yeah, but saying Trump is failing because egg prices are high even though it was caused by the Biden administration killing half the chickens in the country has been the talking point for the left for the last 2 months. Now they’ll spin it to they only dropped in price because Biden kept all of them from dying. It’s all stupid. Electric vehicles and Teslas were straight from God but now that Elon is helping Trump the left is burning down Tesla dealerships. Everybody is stupid.
Even though I agree stuff that happens right after a president takes office it’s usually associated with remnants of the previous admins policies. You are saying the prices going up are from the previous admin, I am sure you give the same grace when something good happens right away under a new regime right? I am sure when some good news happened under Trump you said or at least gave thought into looking into, well that’s probably due to the Biden admin or is it just another one way street? lol… I don’t disagree with what you are saying.
I agree, the Dems wouldn’t shut up and pretended it was some HUGE deal, the whole egg thing… now it either won’t matter and if it does they won’t give the same amount of credit. SO dumb.
One of the greatest chortles I have had over politics in my lifetime is the pivot from the senile drooling Biden to his VP…and then the selection of all people Walz who hails from the one state that would vote Democrat even if the Democratic Party ticket was openly socialist. What an awesome selection of a guy that no one from the other 49 states had ever heard of before.
At least I will be able to remember the ticket for more than a month or two. For the life of me, I can’t remember the D tickets before Clinton came along or under Junior.
Now that you mention it “ditto”
My personal perspective is, what policies has Trump enacted to cause egg prices to go up? None. Biden enacted dozens of policies to drive up the costs of everything, including ordering the destruction of 100 million chickens for bird flu fears. Farmers said there was no practical need to destroy the chickens, but they were ordered to do so. The Dem’s are pissing in the wind on the prices issue, because they will come down soon. Every single argument they have regarding Trump fizzles out in the end. They scream and holler, and cajole, but in the end they are always wrong.
Nice to have you back Edge!!!
My wife said that there have been no mass egg laying chicken culls in Canada or Mexico. Not sure if that is true…maybe the virus respects the border?
What’s Lockett going to want for a contract? He’d be a nice #3.
Money I suspect.
Its gonna be Kupp. Knows the system, had his best season with KOC still in LA.
I’d be fine with that too, but my gut tells me it isn’t happening.
Just what we need, load up the team with senior citizens.
As a WR3 at WR3 money…sure, why not? Were young and mean at the positions we need to be.
cuz he’s slow…easily injured…only catches about half the balls thrown his way…attended EWU…it goes on and on and on.
They could bring back Diggs or get Hopkins.
Eggs, duh
Too rich for my blood.
According to Spotrac, Hitman’s 2026 $25 million payout is guaranteed on Friday.
IF that is accurate, Hitman needs a new deal by then or he will be cut.
Cut him and hire him as a DB coach.
Woof, super restructuring time.
So far we are at 4 incoming FAs and 6 outgoing FAs.
Every 16 year old girl knows you don’t break up with boyfriend #1 until you have boyfriend #2 lined up. Hopefully KAM knows this too.
But if they were released they dont count when it comes to comp pick calculator.
So Kirk as JJ’s backup is not going to affect the comp pick calculation?
We would only be paying him League Minimum if the Falcons cut him.
He will not accept that because of what it represents.
The fact he’s a loser. Always has been, always will be. A rich loser. But still a loser.
Is CJ Ham the only fullback left in the league with a contract?
Ricard with the Ravens just signed another one year deal.
For all my golf friends out there, like JR, this is a really cool story about TPC Sawgrass, the site of the Players Championship. It’s about a tree that was very famous on the 6th tee box, that technically didn’t interfere with the tee shot, but screwed with players heads. The tree was taken down a while back, and now, they have replaced it with another tree to recapture that same effect on the hole. Very cool story and video.
https://www.pgatour.com/article/news/latest/2025/03/10/famous-overhanging-tree-replanted-sixth-hole-pete-dye-tpc-sawgrass-the-players-championship-renovation
No Tiger for the Masters this year.
Wow… sad. That’s gonna take a while to overcome. Bernhard Langer had it happen last February, but recovered, and is already playing again.
I was hoping to see Tiger at Augusta this year for sure. Sad he is out for the season now.
Since Minshew isn’t a free agent, I assume the Vikings have to wait until 3PM tomorrow to talk to him. That is if the rumors are true that the Raiders are going to waive him.
Sounds right.
And if Minshew does come to minny, he won’t figure into the Comp Pick equation next year.
He might not make enough anyway.
In order to bring fair and balance, this rant is for the doomers….
@Kwesi & KOC are so effing dumb !!!! How can they NOT have a QB by now. !!!!
Who is running the Vikings anywho..!!!!!!@
Wentz…..its going to be Wentz…
I’d rather see Winston.
The ‘stache will be our QB2 next year book it!!!
I take the ‘stache over Winston or Wentz.
I would be fine with Zach Wilson as the Backup QB.
Signing with the dolphins
Backing up Mr Concussion.
I guess KOC will have to pick the next reclamation project.
Maybe Rypien is the guy?
Crab thief incoming……
Nevermind. Just saw he signed with the fish
Wrong Wilson
I doubt either he or The Douche are willing to be a back up.
Wilson might do a better job of mentoring JJ (QB) but doubt it.
I would take Rodgers over Wilson. Rodgers is at least openly arrogant. Wilson tries to be nice about it.
Like the Kirko I want to retire in Wash, Minn and Atlanta nice?
Passive Agressive??
Sounds like a perfect fit for Commiesota.
The only “starting” job open is Pittsburgh I believe.
The Douche will go there.
If Wilson want’s to be an NFL QB, he is a backup.
But I agree, neither one will likely want that.
Giants aren’t looking good. They’ll draft one, but Sanders might not be ready to start this year.
Forgot about them.
I could see Russ cooking there.
Slotergoat is still out there.
QB3
Um……we got Fries?
Yup.
Hun will probably put Mayo on him.
They do that in Europe.
I learned to love mayo on fries when I was stationed in Germany……I didn’t speak enough German yet to tell them not to put it on and by the time I did, I loved it.
It is better than it sounds.
I miss putting malt vinegar on fries or pub chips/fries.
I have not tried that.
It sounds like a ‘bridge too far’ to me.
But then I thought that about Mayo which kinda worked.
We went to a pub in Savage up the road on Saturday, I had pub chips…asked if they had any vinegar (nope)…oh but we can give you ketchup or ranch? BARF!
You poor soul. How did you survive amongst those…
QUESI’s a good boy, that’s who!!!!
Now that the lines have been addressed in FA, the draft looks to be pretty blah…….
I’d say trade back and get a RB in the second round.
Would love to get a rb to have a great 1-2 punch with Mr glass
And a CB…..
We don’t need no stinking draft picks!!
A power back with some speed, Was hoping one would fall into the 3rd.
A trade back from the 1st round unless a special talent falls down to us.
Thinking a backup QB and some safety help is still needed.
Any other ‘needs’ that still need addressing?
I wouldn’t hate seeing Will Hernandez make his way here…
332lbs?
That would be an ’embarrassment of riches’.
Too fat – five probably
I scoffed at all the ridiculous media hooplah about the Vikings not having or knowing who is in charge blah blah blah crap…..loving seeing them building this team out the smart way.
Now don’t let kwesi in the draft room and we should be ok
100%
KAM got better though.
Does he float?
Can you build a bridge out of him?
Monty Python gif auto-rec
I am interested in seeing how the QB room shakes out this season, and I think we’ll see some movement soon. There is no doubt McCarthy has excellent arm talent, but it will be a couple years before he “gets there” in being able to function autonomously on the field. He needs some folks in that QB room to help him succeed, andyes, mentor him. Josh McCowan can do a lot for sure, but we need some guys that be a unit, support each other, and help McCarthy develop and grow.
Wonder if Gardner Minshew is one of those guys?
I think he would be a good choice.
I’m thinking the same thing. Jones and Mullens walking. Jones is smart to do so – he’s got a 60/40 shot of being the starter in Indy by year’s end with the uneven, uninspiring play of Richardson. Minshew is a vet who makes sense as QB2 here.
I’d wouldn’t mind signing Minshew, shouldn’t be too expensive, and he can play if needed. Won’t be though, as JJ will pan out (I hope – #nojinx).
I would think we almost have to acquire 2 – a legit QB2, and someone to compete with Mark Rypien for practice squad/QB3 duties
Mark Rypien was born in 1962… think you mean Brett Rypien.
Must be important if you posted it 3 times.
Colts sign Danny Jones to 1 year deal. $17.7 M.
I guess you can’t get them all.
KOC will have to find another QB to fix.
He can fix Aaron Rodgers!
Don’t want the Head Case/Douche.
We need a mentor for JJ (QB) and he has never been that.
Flacco, Wentz, the other Jones, Minshew, Jameis. Plenty of options.
Wentz
I’d rather have the chicken as QB2
I trust KOC to find someone he can fix.
If he managed it with Sam-I-Am he can manage it with just about anyone IMHO.
And whoever they sign will only see the field for the end of about half the games when the Vikings are up by 20.
The offense is now going into its fourth year under KOC. When was the last time we had an offense that mature? This is the advantage any QB will have this year. KOC has made his mistakes, found his answers, and adjusted his scheme each year to make it better. A new OC every year is always a bad thing, so I see the offense being solid this year, regardless of who is under center.
I said here many times that Darnold has a lot of talent. He’s a big strong athlete, and if he knows where to go with the ball, and has some protection, he can absolutely get it done. Where he struggles is in press man, and CB’s sitting on routes, that force him to move from the primary receiver to another guy. Aggressive defenses get into Darnold’s head.
Site issues: I shot an email to the devs, hopefully they fix things quickly. They’re normally really good.
Personally, I’m not experiencing any site issues here.
Testing live comment updates…
Thanks guys, you’re awesome!
Twitter had a massive outage/cyberattack yesterday (supposedly Ukraine ). I am wondering if that is maybe why the embeds were not working?
Maybe I will give you a call to get more details..
I saw you called, was in the shower. I’m available now.
The only ‘site issues’ I have experienced are self inflicted.
X posts are working now.
What a great day!
I see we added J. Allen, DT, 300lbs; and Hargrave, DT, 305lbs; and Fries, OG, 305lbs to yesterdays signing of Kelly, OC, 305lbs.
That is over 1200lbs of prime beef to the trenches.
Retaining CB Murphy and picking up CB I. Rodgers is icing on the cake.
Amen, and free agency hasn’t even started yet
We lost out on Danny Jones but KOC can fix another QB to be the backup.
I thought he went into the hall of fame.
Jonathan not Jared and a DT not a DE.
I don’t understand the appeal of casinos. I had a LONG day yesterday, and on my way home, I drove by 4 Bears Casino. I figured I’d drop in there for a bit, take a break, and see if I get lucky. Man, $20 disappears in seconds, and it is zero fun. A bunch of lonely looking folks sitting at slot machines looking depressed. I left after a few minutes. I haven ‘t been to a casino in years, and won’t be making a return trip anytime soon.
It’s amazing to think of how much money makes it’s way into the casino coffers in Vegas, Atlantic City, etc every day. Mind you, I’ve never been lucky at gambling so I just don’t do it.
I mentioned to my wife (a big Eagles fan) that we should go see the Eagles in the Sphere down in LV…that was a big no even before I told her what tickets to the show cost. Gah.
I gamble very little. An occasional $20 into the pulltab machine, but that’s once or twice a year. Yesterday was my first trip to a casino in years, I won’t be going back. I found zero enjoyment in sitting at a slot machine. I could’ve played blackjack & had more fun, but I was just stopping for a short rest.
I only play black jack and infrequently…in North Dakota I will play 30 dollars at a seating – when its gone its gone – sometimes I win, sometimes I lose – I find it an enjoyable distraction.
Can’t stand pull tabs or slot machines – I get no tingle.
Ya, I usually play $20 and either win something or lose the $20. If I lose, I’m done.
I used to gamble more often. I preferred playing Poker to anything else, and used to spend my lunch hour at the track in Shakopee playing limit hold ’em.
Two things about that. Limit hold ’em is a game that you can win long term, as long as there are bad players at the table. It was a decent hourly win rate for me (2x the big blind average) .
And second, in order to win at poker, you have to spend time with losers. Literally. Angry people that are bad at math. It wore on me and stopped being fun.
If I gamble now, I know I am throwing money away, and usually on sports, and not a lot. Lost $150 last season on Underdog betting parlays on specific players.
Slot machines are depressing to watch. Blackjack is decent enough since you can play conservatively and your money may last a bit longer.
Counting cards works, but gave me a headache.
Counting can work but no fun playing….can’t BS with the dealer an d the other players cause you have to focus focus focus. Working that hard at having fun isn’t having fun.
But winning is fun.
Being walked out of the casino for ‘card counting’ probably not so much.
I prefer spending money on hookers and blow.
I have never played Hold’em at a casino. Mostly with friends or on line. I was pretty good at one point, I could figure out what the other person had based on the way they were betting, usually with a 95% accuracy.
It is a beatable game. When I played NLHE, I would evaluate the table and if I could not find the obvious weak players, I knew I would lose, and would change tables.
Still, the fact that I needed to hang out with angry and/or stupid people in order to profit, killed the fun for me. I would still probably play hold ’em tourneys or single table sit n go’s if in a casino. Otherwise, playing blackjack or sports betting was the thing to do for free drinks.
Online poker was fun in it’s early heyday, before the nanobots and cheating was widespread. 2000-2007 was fun and a bit profitable for me.
The IRS says…
Better Off Dead auto rec
All gambling profits were recorded. 2.5k was my best year. They got their cut.
I finally realized that with the amount of time spent playing cards, I could just work a few hours or temp contracts and make more $ and have more time with the family.
Have not had a W-2G in awhile.
The Teacher had her Union Conventions in Vegas, they would pick up the cost of rooms and Brunch. I would go with and spend the day in the sports book and then we would go to dinner and a show in the evening.
Wasn’t too bad a weekend.
So when the Teachers Union says it needs more money for the students, it’s really for an upgrade to a suite?
(or to fund a trans rally)
There are a few times when the Union Stands up for the teacher, that is normally at the local level. Cause Admin just follows the path of least resistance regardless of who that runs over.
“Less complaints if we stand with the parents and blame the teachers for bad behavior or uneducated students, Ok!”
Above the local level it is all corrupt.
My wife and I like stopping at casinos once or twice a year. We have a system. We put in $20. As soon as we are up, even if it is a couple bucks. We walk away.
I think we are about plus $30 lifetime against casinos doing that.
They probably have our pictures up in their surveillance rooms because we cracked them wide open!
Looks like Daniel Jones is expected to sign with the Colts. One-year deal and the parties are finalizing it. While Minnesota was a strong option, Jones opts to compete with Anthony Richardson in Indy.
He does have a better chance of more playing time in Indy, considering how Richardson looked last year.
He does. Now we will see what the QB room will end up looking like since Darnold, Jones, and Mullens have all moved on to other teams. We have one QB on the roster at the moment. Gonna be interesting to see where we go from here.
Agreed. Would like a “competent” backup. I trust KOCs eye when it comes to that.
I am fine with that.
There will be a plethora of cast off former starters with experience that can hold the clipboard for JJ.
I’m sure that there is a contingency plan, to bring in a veteran to back up McCarthy.
They have one at QB coach.
Laughing… yes, and only 45 years old too! Sign him!
Teddy Bridgewater?
I love that idea.
Don’t know.
He still has some *Taint and Loin stench on him IMHO.
What the hell? The video embedded last night, now today it isn’t showing up?
I watched it earlier and it worked. You Tube must have been notified by someone to remove it.
I’m sure. There were some high profile people on there. Need a video hosting site that isn’t owned by a corporation.
I put a new one up there. The one I had up there before was really good, highlighted a bunch of celebrities who fled the country once the Epstein files were released.
Yeah, I saw the original. Connected politicians probably got the Epstein one removed.
New comments aren’t loading for me either.
I’ll shoot an email to the devs & see what’s going on.

Who is happier right now.
JJ McCarthy, or Aaron Jones?
Gotta be honest, I’m still not loving the A Jones signing.
Meh, not much of a hot this year and basically just posts the dead money they would have incurred by not signing him.
Ditto.
Way too much money for a guy his age and hurt virtually every game.
I know he started all 17, but he didn’t finish like 5 games last year.
Hoping they draft a dude to interchange with Aaron.
Looking at Jones’ contract, only a $6 million cap hit this year, $14 mil next year, but they could cut him at that point & save $8 mil ($6 mil dead cap).
I think the dead hit would have been close to $6 mill if they didn’t sign him so it’s a wash this year and they just push out the dead hit to next year. Kind of a no lose deal. They have a good option and can pick one if the right one is there in the draft but now they aren’t forced into over drafting the wrong one.
Like Dalvin Cook, Aaron Jones should only be played fulltime like the last four games of the year. Those guys are front loaded. You got to save them if you want their best when it counts.
Its going to look better when they draft a RB to pair with him. His cap hits are drops in the bucket its not as bad as the numbers suggest. You’ll recover from price tag shock soon enough.
He DID put up 1500 yards from scrimmage though……but only 7 TDs.
He was a beast picking up the blitz, too. Saved Darnold on many occasions.
Unless he regresses considerably, he fills the RB1 spot again, letting us take a flyer on a late-round pick this year, and target a replacement in 2026.
I didn’t think Kwesi could outdo last years free agency. But, it looks like he is going to, the true test will be when the season starts.
Yeah, if these free agents work out as well as last seasons, this will be fun.
If they work out, we are contenders this year.
We said prior to the off-season that the team’s main need was to beef up the trenches, and that’s exactly what the Vikings are doing. It’s about damn time.
Can she play guard?
Pretty sure she’s a catcher, like KFEY
Agreed.
I am still in a bit of shock.
I know this is just “super early roster building” and all, but the most glaring and obvious need has been addressed aggressively. That feels so strange. Reminds me of exactly how terrible Rick was as a GM, and how terribad the Kirko initial signing was, and how his first extension was even worse. Overpaying for an average QB should have gotten Rick fired in 2019.
For now, this is so much fun.
Vikes coulda had a new coaching staff and Lamar Jackson and added some beef at the end of 2019 and Choose to double down on the lunacy. The garbage that was 2020-2023 is what you get when you do that.
Exactly.
And now I get to enjoy the Dork holding a clipboard in ATL. And getting paid by a different idiot GM.
Are you finally going to go see another Vikings game in person again? Or did you do that this past year already?
I did not go last year. Not a Sam believer. Felt just exactly like Keenum, and the result in the playoffs was expected.
This season I will probably go to at least one game, as long as JJ is starting.
I will warn people here ahead of time, since I am a US Bank jinx.
It took me going to see them in Nashville before I could see them win in person.
Try London. Won all 4 of our games there. Too bad I only managed to attend two of those wins in person.
Vikes beat out 5 other teams for Fries. Usually the Vikes are one of the ones on the list that got beat out. Feels good.
Vikes are an attractive landing spot for FAs now. KOC has righted the ship.
The Earth is healing
Yup, the stadium and facilities probably help too. Gotta mention the Wilfs also. Guys want to play here.
Yes, they do….Credit to the Wilfs and to KOC for that.
Vikings O-line
LT- Darrisaw
LG- Brandel
C- Kelly
RG- Fries
RT- O’Neill
Agreed, looks light years better than it did last year. Remember when we had Bradbury & Ingram next to each other? Opposing defenses will miss that.
LG still the weakest link imo, but man, that O Line looks so much better than last season.
Yeah, but that weakest link is MUCH stronger than the two weakest links we had last year.
agreed.
Gotta find my shades
O linemen are only as good as the guy next to them, especially in the interior. Signing who we have, will make who ever is at the last spot look better because they should have less to worry about.
Ya, being next to Bradbury certainly won’t help a fella shine.
Anyone know off the top of their head what kinda fracture Fries had?
Bone fracture
Beat me to it.
Oh, thank goodness it wasn’t a penile fracture. Those can have long term sequelae.
Ya, I always try to avoid sequelaes.
Tibia, I guess. Weird, I thought it was his shin.
Narf narf
Its been 30 min….WHY ARENT THE VIKINGS DOING ANYTHING
Because they are currently in post nut clarity mode.
I’m sending Kwesi a thank you gift.
Bring back Griffen or Gilmore if they don’t get a deal somewhere else?
At least Kwesi takes our skoloholic’s advice, unlike Rick.
Build the trenches.
Rick’s a dumbass. He thinks you should make big splash signings that make ESPN headlines.
And he wants ALL the 7th round picks.
Yup, I don’t miss that shit one bit.
Indeed.
Gotta have 10 picks for the draft, no matter what it takes.

Was Hargrave hurt last year too? Said he only played 3 games for the 49ers
