Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
The Steelers remain atop the AFC North after their Monday Night Football win last night, they’re lucky to be in the worst division in the NFL. It looks like I’ll be playing DE Viking next week in our fantasy league, and kiddo will be taking on Ben. Kiddo and I both had a first round bye, @hopefully the week off doesn’t affect our performance@. It’s been a fun year in our fantasy league, 2 more weeks to the championship.
I’m tired & going to bed, we’re heading over to Clearwater tomorrow to do some deep sea fishing and spend a little more time on the beach. Then we head home already on Wednesday morning, none of us are ready to go home yet. Hopefully we’ll be back down here soon.
Vikings and NFL News
Jonathan Greenard will undergo shoulder surgery and will miss the remainder of the season, per Vikings.com. Also, Kevin O’Conell talks about the win over the Cowboys.
Yahoo Sports looks at power rankings for NFL week 16.
Patrick Mahomes had a successful surgery to repair his ACL and LCL, per NFL.com. We sure have a lot of CLs, I wasn’t aware of that prior to following football.

- Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

Hmmmm… the Giants defense is ranked 30th in the league in yards per game, and 29th in the league in points allowed per game.
Is Donna Shell the DC??
The Giants defense continues to be in a state of tumult several weeks after the firing of coordinator Shane Bowen. Last week, they dismissed assistant defensive line coach Bryan Cox.
The unit, which has undergone a rash of key injuries and has been underperforming for the entire season, is ranked 30th overall in the NFL after 14 weeks.
Head coach Mike Kafka promoted outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen to coordinator on November 24, upon dismissing Bowen after yet another fourth-quarter collapse.
That decision was met with some criticism and resistance, as several more experienced in-house candidates were bypassed in the process. Bullen has never been a coordinator on any level in his career.
Always good to face an opponent that is in chaos.
Like the Dims are now for example.
Damn, gives me flashbacks to the Giants rolling over the Vikings defense in Jan 2023, we saw that s*** show in person. Pretty sure I still have PTSD from that 11 minute drive in the 4th quarter. Puke.
I don’t miss Ed Donatell. What’s he doing now? Doubt he’s employed by an NFL team, unless it’s to sell popcorn.
I still expect a close game. Vikings can win, but Dart is fun to watch.
As long as JJ continues to play better than he did the first 6 games he started, all is well.
Babylon Bee… but hmmmm… true.
Darrisaw done for the year?
Huh, I thought Skule did a good job. Guess it never hurts to have an option.
If he is risking further injury I wouldn’t mind shutting him down for the year.
Let him get healthy for next year, he has been off and on all season.
Totally agree. This season is done. Just let him rest and heal up now. 8 months of recuperation should let him come back next year full go.
Agreed
I am still for bringing him back but it is interesting.
I guess I’m a context guy. The “he hasn’t won a playoff game” discussion point isn’t in the equation to me. I’m more of a realist, and I care about competency, decision making, and leadership. You have to look at him and decide if he scores well in those three areas or not.
Competency and decision-making are big questions for me. I wouldn’t extend.
there is NO WAY they don’t bring KOC back.
the coach getting fired BETTER BE MATT DANIELS
He sucks, cut him
Yep, Special Teams needs a major improvement.
There’s no way he isn’t back, if anyone is gone outs most likely KAM. That’s also a terrible comparison, Gruden had one season above .500 and even then won only 9 games. Not interesting, just plain dumb.
The stat is interesting to me. I wasn’t doubting he will be back, I only said what I said to make it clear I wasn’t trying to say I thought he shouldn’t be.
They’ve got to bring him back. This year was very frustrating, but he’ll get at least 2 more years, IMHO.
The 5 years is very interesting, though.
Right, I only added the part about I’m pro bringing him back so no one thought I was questioning it. But yes, they are for sure bringing him back.
This is a Minnesota team, let’s be realistic. If he said he was heartbroken that we didn’t make the playoffs they’d sign him to a lifetime deal.
Snoop the halftime show for Minny/Detroit on Netflix on Christmas Day….
Sounds like a good time to take a dump.
I actually don’t hate Snoop, just thought I would go with the old curmudgeon theme we have going today.
Figured I might/could get that reaction out of this crowd today…..
I also don’t hate Snoop. Grew up listening to him. One of the funnest shows I’ve ever been to was Snoop at PBA in Lincoln on 4/20 a few years back.
Higher than the grocery bill that day
I don’t hate him either, neither do I like him.
Actually I don’t care about one way or the other.
Just the same way I feel about ‘Half Time Shows’.
Oh damn, I might actually watch that one.
Jack White with Eminem was the best NFL halftime performance in A LONG time.
Snoop would be a major improvement over the Super Bowl performer, bad lepus or whatever it’s called, I always liked snoop, I don’t smoke but I think he’d be cool to hang out with
snoop actually LOVES america, whereas the super bowl bad rabbit hates america
SICK! Never gotten to see Snoop a Loop live! I don’t think my dad will be as excited lol.
This will never happen, because even if the Dems are in control, I don’t think they could get the military to back them.
Why is there no outrage for KOC playing Greenard with an obvious shoulder injury, leading to the need for surgery?
Probably because he was fine playing through it and was going to require surgery at the end of the season anyway, then he aggravated the injury and they’re out of the plays so it just made sense to do it now.
I think they knew it was going to need surgery eventually to correct, but were hoping they could get to the off-season.
You could say the same for Wentz. Only they were hoping to survive until JJ was ready.
Yeah, because you know, a cracked shoulder socket, a torn labrum, and bad ribs, aren’t enough to make McCarthy go out there and play until he’s 100% healthy.
I think that he would if they let him.
Team is ‘protecting his/their future’.
Prolly because Greenard was only seen writhing on the ground one play and that was the end of it.
now that you mention it……….
Imagine how good this offense can be when JJ and JJettas get on the same page.
Also Nailor is coming into his own. JJ, Adderall, & Nailor, 3 deep 2.0
I have a feeling one of the three are gone after this season. Maybe, we can get Thielen to play one more year.
Heard he racked up the yards last night…….
1 reception for 7 yards…MVP MVP MPV MVP
He did throw a really good block on that TD run by the TE
More likely he racked his nards
We’re undefeated since cutting Thielen…
That is true, but Thielen has re-found his love for football, since we cut him.
He’s also found like what? 7 yards too?
You’re right, Nailor is in the last year of his contract. I’d rather see us spend money to keep him rather than keep Hockenson. TBH. Adderall is here another year, at least.
It is nice seeing Nailor (I barely know her) actually catching the ball.
Obviously we need to give the ball to Ham more often, auto touchdown.
Ring cam footage floating around of police doing a wellness check on an Eagles fan because they posted they were going to “kill themselves” on Facebook after Hurts turned the ball over six times.
It all turned out fine, but lol…
Gutfeld joked that Joe Biden went to the Eagles game on Sunday and left disappointed when they never played ‘Hotel California’.
Now THAT’s funny…
It is their top hit.
Hahaha!
Lucky they didn’t monitor the game threads over at the DN back in the day, those got heated
It still does.
I have no doubt that Doom was in full effect when JJ (QB) threw that early interception.
We have a few Doomers here that show up early (we are all Doomers by the end of games like Seattle/FTP) but on the DN it can be ‘over the top’ almost reaching comedy levels.
it can be ‘over the top’ almost reaching
comedyKodiak levels. FIFYI haven’t checked out a game thread over there in a long time. Used to get pretty brutal, I quit logging on to the game threads. Moderating them was impossible.
I have it up when I can’t watch the game in real time.
They are quicker to tell me what happened/is going on.
I didn’t need it this week as the game was on free TV.
Only sometimes.
Rumor has it that a local person posted on FB they took a bunch of pills and wanted to die, FBI picked it up, contact local LE, and they dragged them in here early this morning.
I believe everything we say or do within range of our smart phones is detectable by the NSA and clearly anything you type on FB or skoloholics for that matter is monitored.
In that case, I love everyone and I always drive the speed limit.
Speaking of which, a Charger GT will hit 100 mph REALLY quickly. @A friend told me@
Laughing… can’t believe I watched the whole thing…
Maybe topic was covered yesterday, what was everyone’s impression of JJ showboating while scoring a TD? Mine was “you’ve got to be kidding me after the way you’ve played this year”. Apparently KOC was none too pleased as well.
‘
my opinion was holy smokes what a great playcall and sell, great job KOC and team…
i didn’t really care either way.
I loved watching the slow-mo replay and even when he was about to cross the goaline the defensive linemen still thought the ball was in the pile
Indeed it was a good play call and executed well.
He “Manning-ed” them.
I guess it bugged me that the coach told him not to do it, and that compelled him to do it. Like a big FU to authority or something. Just rubbed me the wrong way.
A natural response to someone who thinks he’s an authoritative figure over everyone else.
Laughing… stay on the porch son.
He was told ‘not to do that again’ during practice.
I assume that once JJ (QB) saw how much room/time he had he figured it was ok to do.
Pretty much a ‘nothing burger’ for me.
Or maybe he’s a kid playing a game that’s supposed to be fun and he was just having a little fun. I haven’t heard anybody complain about Jefferson doing the Griddy or the elaborate celebrations the defense was doing last year.
Yup
I believe JJettas did it on his 1st touchdown and no one got their panties in a bunch.
Amen
I bet if you told your son not to do something in a game and he did it anyway, you’d be singing a different tune GF.
Something like that, I wouldn’t be too mad about, I’d be celebrating with him. We’d talk about it later.
No, you must punish him publicly in front of his fellow soldiers er, I mean, team mates so they know not to break ranks and defile orders! You know, because every day life, people and the NFL should be handled like the military! RIGHT?!
Kid was having fun and the whole Dallas D and everyone watching was fooled by it. Yall old folks need to let the kid have fun. He’s been playing way better lately in a lost season. Find something else to complain about.
That might be my aunt
sarc
You’ll always be young in my heart FLSKOL
I immediately thought of a game from like 10 years ago where Peyton manning ran basically the same play, both were masterful play action fakes, though they look very very different running, manning looks like a geriatric arthritic giraffe, JJ looks like a majestic gazelle
it’s weird the things you remember, for whatever reason I remember I was at foot locker in Greeley CO watching that Denver/Dallas game and checking out some all white adidas when manning ran that bootleg in.
That’s exactly what I thought too… just like Manning running it in. Weird.
the story would have been better if you were in Omaha
I get both sides of it – having fun and celebrating a good fake. But also, look at your team record and your personal stats. Put your head down and work hard to be an average QB first before you start showboating. That’s my personal opinion.
Kind of like Cordarelle Patterson celebrating a kick return TD when the team was down by like 25+ points. Great job, now look at the scoreboard…
I don’t really care. QBs can be wild stallions who are difficult to bridle. Some are all business, like Brady, which I prefer.
But some are like Jim McMahon…
I would prefer he wait until in the end zone before celebrating.
However, if he keeps playing well, I will care less and less about his style.
If he keeps playing how he is, I don’t care if he hits a crack pipe on the field after he scores a TD
I’d prefer a bubble pipe…
We all agree, just go out there, play the game and HAVE FUN!!!
22 yo goes out there and has fun…
Old men across the nation
Yup, he’s 22 frickin years old. A young guy that’s finally having a little fun in what’s been a pretty difficult year for him. 3 more games, I want to see him have more fun.
Same. I hope he stays gold Ponyboy.
Dis is what is happening to Jets
Any time you can rub the Cowpies noses in something, is OK with me.
It would have been awesome if he dropped the ball as he one handed it during the griddy, is that how you spell it?
He would have had enough time to pick it up again and get into the end zone before any defender had gotten to him.
JJ (QB) say that the team around him and just being ‘another piece of the puzzle’ helped everything click and stopped him from being overwhelmed.
https://thevikingage.com/minnesota-vikings-jj-mccarthy-reveals-made-chaos-stop
I think they should start Brosmer
When next McFragile get injured/concussed I agree.
Better to get him reps at this point than to pick up another washed up Vet.
LOL, right?
If you’ve never watched the Hodge Twins, you should. These guys are hilarious.
It seems that a better approach by the administration would be to kindly ask the child not to open the peanut butter cup, then call the parents and ask them politely not to send one with him again and explain why. It doesn’t seem that complicated. A little common sense goes a long way.
Liberals are “nuts”
Funny, Clever………..But my son has a nut allergy, thankfully not severe in that he can be sitting right next to someone consuming Cashews, and he would not be affected. I do know a young man that is so allergic if he enters the same room where p-nuts or nuts are open he will get violently ill, it is no joke. I understand why schools need to have such a policy if they have students like that.
on of my friends kids goes into full on swelling/choking if he touches something that had peanut dust or pumpkin seed dust on it.
saw it happen first hand and it’s quite scary. thankful that my kids aren’t allergic to anything
I find these stories interesting, as I don’t really understand this issue.
When I was growing up, all thru school, college, Army and later. in working life, never meant one person with a peanut allergy. Only much later in life did I even hear about it.
Now, it seems to be very prevalent. Did something change in our envirement to cause this?
yes, but you’d be considered a conspiracy theorist if you said it out loud.
That’s OK. Truth is truth.
amen
Our food industry is creating these allergies. We’re poisoning our people.
The Teacher was tested for allergies, positive for about 20 different things including stuff she normally ate like tomatoes. She she went to ‘allergist’ weekly to get a shot for years paid by insurance.
Strangely when the Allergist retired she stopped getting the shots and there was no effect. Suddenly it wasn’t an issue any more.
I figured she helped pay for that guys retirement home.
Ditto. I don’t know a single person that is allergic to nuts, but supposedly there is at least one kid in every grade of my kids’ small school that is so allergic to nuts that my kids aren’t supposed to take peanut butter or anything to school. Never an issue when I was a kid or with any of the adults I know.
Reason number 1,256,854 for homeschooling
Don’t have time for that so just going with the private school route. It might put me in the poor house and I’ll never be able to afford multiple lake houses like Freezey, but my kids will have a good education.
Well worth the money in the long run.
We just told our kids don’t expect an inheritance, we spent all the money on your education.
My mom worked part time to put the 5 of us into Private School. They thankfully had discounts for larger families.
My wife was working at the school when my oldest started so we got a tuition break. Then she quit but now I just can’t convince myself to send them to public school, especially with my wife having some experience at a couple of them now. Unfortunately, I only get a little discount for a second kid and make just over too much for financial help. Hopefully my wife will be able to get a job soon and all will be well and worth it in the end.
My mom said that with a mostly uninvolved/alcoholic dad she needed the help raising the 5 of us.
We all turned out pretty well despite our issues, like most families I assume.
So you went to a school for fat kids?
We were mostly a poor family, not enough food to be fat.
We did manage to accomplish that later in life.
Plus back in the 70s ‘Fat Kids’ were not really a thing, certainly not like it is now.
I’m seriously contemplating homeschooling starting next year. One of the guys I coached with this year homeschools their kids (his wife does). they are awesome people, I’m thinking of talking to him more about it. I can do it while I’m working.
feel free to shoot me an email or text if you want more information about homeschooling.
Sure will. I know they use an accredited program, he said it’s really good.
Public Schools in ND are so much better than they are in Commifornia.
At least they were when my kids went to school in Bismarck in the 90s.
They are, I just want to help kiddo thrive in his education, he gets really bored in school. He’s a smart kid, far ahead of most of what they’re learning, especially math & reading. We work at home a lot.
Keeping teenagers involved/invested is always a challenge. With being involved in sports he will keep his social group.
Many districts allow ‘home schooled kids’ to play on their sports teams.
Banning peanuts or any other nut food or product for everyone because certain individuals could be affected is still nuts.
“Sharing his recess”????
Isn’t it all the kids’ recess?
Typo… meant Reece’s…
Reece’s pieces are generally underrated, of course everyone loves the cups, but I always preferred pieces, Either way, I can’t hear Reece’s without thinking of Mitch Hedberg, RIP
I cannot stand the cups, but love the pieces.
but the true king are the holiday reeses. trees, pumpkins, eggs.
I used to love the cups and such, but they must have changed the recipe, I cannot stand them anymore.
he chocolate to peanut butter ratio has been changed.
plus i don’t really like milk chocolate much
I agree, they aren’t the same as they once were.
yeah I love the pieces
Cup over pieces all day every day.
But you are allowed you wrong opinion.
#grin
So glad to see that you agree that you were wrong.
#snicker
I can get behind Snickers
peanut butter snickers are really good
Both are trash due to the garbage inside them.
one unexpected outcome of moving into this new house….BETTER SLEEP…
we went from a house that had all the bedrooms on the same level, so could generally hear most noises the kids make (coughing, sleep talking, general kid noises during sleep), to hearing nothing (they are upstairs and we are on the main floor), and i am REALLY happy about this.
Confirmed…
Awesome, amigo. Glad you’re enjoying the new place.
Plus the kids won’t wonder why daddy is making mommy make those noises.
Felt super warm running this morning. 40 is going to feel like summer this afternoon.
Yep. I’ve been in MN the last 10 days.
Stepped outside without a coat this morning.
Feels like spring today.
Gonna be in the 70s here.
Rams and Seahawks on Thursday will be a good game. Both 11-3.
Good morning, SKOL!
