Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
No news for the Vikings, and I expect the next 4 weeks to be the same. Boring. We have nothing to do except speculate on how many Super Bowls this team wins in the next 3 years. Having the QB on a rookie deal is a very nice change for this team. Both interior lines have upgraded this offseason.

That cat gots to go!
I firmly believe that about most cats.
Laughing… we have a cat that does that every once in a while. Go into the bathroom and the toilet roll is spilled all over the floor.
Gato Tacos will fix that.
Man that’s cold…
I support this message.
And Rec it as well.
I agree with this assessment. The line “should” be a lot better this year, and all the skill position players know the offense inside and out. I really think of all the “young” QB’s out there, McCarthy is in the catbird seat. I mean, he almost can’t mess this up.
KOC just needed to see if McCarthy had the requisite arm talent (he does) and enough cognitive ability to see the things he needs to see when executing plays. QB’s do not “scan the field” and pick out the best receiver. They execute a play call designed to attack a specific portion of the field, a specific defensive look, or a specific match-up.
Understanding which of those things the play call is doing, then knowing the actual things he supposed to be looking at, is where the rubber meets the road. Of course KOC can tell him what to look for right after he sends in the play.

Im guessing she was drunk or on drugs.
NSFW or Family.
If it was my wife she was pulling that shit on, she’d need to be seeing a dentist for the next year and a half.
I assume Karen wearing the mask did something to start the whole thing.
WTF. do not pass go, do not collect $200 – go directly to jail. We have far too much horrible behavior in our society. I don’t care if this person is drink, on drugs or just crazy. She needs to go away for a year or so and learn to act better.
I think I figured out why the Skoloholics admin aren’t here.

I haven’t followed it at all.
Got away with murder huh?
No clue. Just assuming.
Sounds like the cops initially screwed it up so bad at the beginning that what they said could not be trusted by the jury.
Since the victim was ‘one of theirs’ emotions were riding high right from the start. First investigator had to be pulled from the case once his shinangicans came to light.
Anyone seeking regime change in Iran can do so. Most folks don’t know that the supreme leader is not elected. he is appointed by the elected “Council of Experts”.
If it doesn’t, and even if their nuclear program is eliminated, they will very quickly again become (continue to be) the number one sponsor of terrorism in the world.
So Iran has elections. They have a President, a Parliament, and they have the Assembly of Experts that are elected. The Assembly of Experts appoints the Supreme leader. The Judicial is under the control of the Supreme Leader, as are the Military, and the Expediency Council. If the constituency elects an Assembly of Experts that favors regime change, then things will change.
This is what the preferred National outcome would be.
What would really change?
Just a new terrorist in charge?
The whole country theoretically. Iran became an Islamic Republic when the Shah was overthrown. In early 1978, they adopted a theocratic constitution, and established the current structure. That structure could be completely changed with a new constitution. A new group of elected officials could wipe out the regime overnight. Many (most) Iranians want a more moderate government. Iran has a lot of highly educated folks, and they see this Islamic rule as a detriment to progress and prosperity. In a word, they want to be a part of the modern world instead of opposed to it.
I wonder why they can’t get new leaders? (Sarcasm)
Fear. They are afraid they and their family will be killed if they don’t support the regime. With the actions going on now, the populace is really seeing that there could be a regime change.
We (Carter) let the Shah get overthrown. Under the Shah, Iran perhaps the most sophisticated western leaning country in the region.
Sometimes a benevolent dictator in certain areas of the world works best.
JR… this is going to be much longer than I wanted it to be, but Carter had no ability to prevent the Shah being overthrown.
In 1953, the CIA- and MI6-backed Iranian coup d’état overthrew Iran’s democratically elected Prime Minister, Mohammad Mossadegh, who had nationalized the country’s oil industry to reclaim sovereignty from British control. The coup reinstalled Mohammad Reza Pahlavi as an absolute monarch and entrenched Iran as a client state of the U.S. and UK.
Over the next 26 years, Pahlavi consolidated authoritarian rule, suppressing dissent through the controversial SAVAK secret police, while aligning Iran firmly with the Western Bloc during the Cold War. In 1963, he launched the White Revolution, a top-down modernization and land reform program that alienated many sectors of society, especially the clergy. Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini emerged as a vocal critic and was exiled in 1964.
However, even with the Ayatullah in exile, ideological tensions persisted between Pahlavi and Khomeini. Anti-government demonstrations began in October 1977, developing into a campaign of civil resistance that included communism, socialism, and Islamism. By 1977, mass protests were underway. A key turning point occurred in August 1978, when the Cinema Rex fire killed around 400 people. While arson by Islamist militants was later alleged, a large portion of the public believed it was a false flag operation by the Shah’s secret police (SAVAK) to discredit the opposition and justify a crackdown, fueling nationwide outrage and mobilization. By the end of 1978, the revolution had become a broad-based uprising that paralyzed the country for the remainder of that year.
On 16 January 1979, Pahlavi went into exile as the last Iranian monarch, leaving his duties to Iran’s Regency Council and Shapour Bakhtiar, the opposition-based prime minister. On 1 February 1979, Khomeini returned, following an invitation by the government; several million greeted him as he landed in Tehran. By 11 February, the monarchy was brought down and Khomeini assumed leadership while guerrillas and rebel troops overwhelmed Pahlavi loyalists in armed combat. Following the March 1979 Islamic Republic referendum, in which 98% approved the shift to an Islamic republic, the new government began drafting the present-day constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran; Khomeini emerged as the Supreme Leader of Iran in December 1979. Carter didn’t have any ability at all to change this march.
That is quite a history – thank you.
Just know we, and the rest of the world, do not need a terrorist state there that basically exists to destroy Israel and the US.
Where’s Saddam when we need him.
I think Trump has been amazingly consistent, and even keeled with this. Iran can’t have a nuclear weapon. Note how all the Arab Nations are staying out of this. You may be wondering why. Well it’s because there are Muslims, and there are Muslims. Iran is not an Arab Nation. They are Persians. There is some history there, and they don’t really like each other.
Yet they keep putting in terrorists.
I’m in the “I’ll believe it when I see it”, category.
Russia has free elections too. And the Ukraine used to but not so much anymore.
We used to, too. (Sarcasm…kinda)
Correct – kinda.
As George Will once said, we have the best Congress money can buy.
China spent a lot of money getting Biden elected, and printed the fake ballots and phony drivers licenses used to stuff the mail-in ballot boxes.
No telling.
Just like most days around here.
JR, I think you asked Surly the other day who the global scrubs were.
Well, Powell, is one of them.
The President can’t control what the Fed does.
Today’s data is actually a little worse than Sept 2024, and look at what Powell did before the election. Cut rates by 1/2 of percent.
Trump called Powell ‘Too Late Powell’ today.
Said he was either stupid or political or ‘just hates me’.
DJT said if Powell hated him that was understandable since he has called him lots of names before.
He also wondered if he could appoint himself to the position of Fed Chairman since he “would be a much better job than ‘Too Late Powell'”.
And Trump appointed Powell to the position.
Yep.
Deep State hire.
And Biden reappointed him.
Trump said to Joe Rogan that since he was not a politician he had some hits and misses on appointments at the start of his first term.
That is why so many of them turned on him. Once he figured out that they were incompetent he fired them and so they turned on him.
I think it was a little more than that. Trump is fine with dissenting voices, and he retained a lot of Democrats that served under Obama in positions around him. I think he felt by showing them he valued their points of view, they would work with him to get some bi-partisanship going in Government. Instead the die hard Dem’s used their positions to undermine him. They leaked information out like a sieve. Fauci was a perfect example. He undermined Trump at every turn.
It was a hard lesson that hurt his first Presidency badly. A leopard doesn’t change its spots. This time around, he selected a far better team, and they believe in common sense and America, not partisan political positions.
I did, thanks. The Fed like most government institutions are left learning. when there was inflation, he cut rates anyway. when there isn’t, he stands pat. Surprisingly, the Republican party was for decades the party of business and as business went, so did the economy of the country.
Now, their rational, who knows.
It could be Friday for all we know…..
I wish!!

It’s kind of like having dementia.
Twins slipping back into what they are.
As a Twins fan a 80 game season is fine.
Think it’s by design. Today is the 17th here, so tomorrow will be the 18th then. Suddenly someone will wakeup and realize the following is actually the 20th.
Thus, thank God, we will not have to celebrate June 19th or whatever it is called.
Yup. Juneteenth. Like to think it commemorates end of slavery but my guts tell me the feds just want another holiday.
Juneteenth was a regional holiday and was not celebrated by everyone that was freed. There are different freedom dates. My mom grew up in East Texas and so I was familiar with it. Now all of a sudden it’s national.
Juneteenth, became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021, when the designation was signed into law by former President Biden.
Originally it was to commemorate the day in 1865 when the last slaves in Texas were notified of the Emancipation Proclamation, which marked an official end to the U.S. Civil War. Not all States had celebrations though. Biden changed that, making it a Federal Holiday.
I grew up in the midwest and then spent nearly 50 years in DC ( a very black city) and had never heard of Juneteenth. until about four years ago.
BSPN’s all quarter century team.
53 man roster.
4 former Vikings plus Patrick Peterson.
(Moss, Jefferson, Allen, Hutchinson)
Feel like Adrian Peterson should be there ahead of Priest Holmes.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45042048/nfl-best-all-quarter-century-team-25-years-tom-brady-randy-moss-ray-lewis
Priest Holmes ahead of AP?
I’d probably put LT in there.
Yeah.
I don’t know all of running backs that missed the cut, but I could see him ahead of Holmes for sure.
I’m thinking all of the Skoloholic admin people were deported.
Or maybe their union has had enough and they are on strike.
Are the Skoloholic offices in Iran?
Or maybe Israel got to their cell phones.
Another day goes by where nothing happens in Iran after the hype of “something big is going down.”
Maybe it’s a ploy to get Iran off it’s game for something unexpected.
This is going to continue on until someone steps up and destroys completely Iran’s nuclear capability to build bombs.
We could use Maverick on this for sure.
Well stuff is happening in Iran.
Israel has moved to hitting secondary targets, republican guard, nuclear supply chain locations, they did a cyber attack on some of their banking systems for their defense/civil control groups.
Supreme Leaders said that they won’t negotiate but Trump just said that they even offered to come to the White House to talk. Does the left hand not know what the right hand is going over there? Or are they just making public ‘tough talk’ while pleading for relief behind the curtain?
I know things are going down in Iran.
But when the hype doesn’t match the reality, it’s like crying wolf.
Yeah they are nibbling around the edges.
Until they talk Trump into using Bunker Busters or figure a way to eliminate the dug in Nuke sites.
I was wondering if a Seal type of team could get in and set up an explosion. Probably way too risky for that though.
Heard it discussed last night as a possibility. And Israel has Commandos as good as our Seals.
They might get to that point.
They already have air superiority and so they will continue to dismantle Irans defenses. Eventually get to the point where it is safe (relatively) to do so.
Israel really wants an Iranian leadership change (peace or violent). Their messaging is to the Iranian people to force the change (violence if/probably necessary).
Gotta put Russia in a bit of a bind since they use Iranian drones. Maybe Pootin will get some elsewhere? Can he trust drones Made In China?
Russia has chosen to stand aside in the conflict.
‘Russia, its most powerful supporter, is apparently not prepared to do much of anything about it.”

“Friend”
Let’s hope he lives up to the first round status.
10 year starter at LG?
Yes please.
#nojinx
Anytime you draft a 10 year starter you did well.
Yep.
And on the OL from the Vikings?
Let’s hope…..
Yes, this would be big, if he can play at a high level. Obviously the weak interior of our line has plagued us for years. We did great with O’neil and Darrisaw, but we missed with Bradbury. We all hoped that when he was drafted he would be exceptional, and bolster the line. For some reason he never got there though. We have cycled through numerous Guards too, trying to find the right guys. Free agents and draft picks galore have been brought in, and yet we’re still “hoping” our guards will be good this year.
Hope this guy is a 10 year, solid starter. Hope our new center is awesome too. Honestly these are the missing pieces of our offense… the interior line. Get that right, and man, this offense could be one of the best in the NFL.
For which team? (Sarc)
It’s my birthday, and all I want is a June 18 thread!
I’m hoping that is how my wife meets me when I get home.
Wait…probably shouldn’t have said that out loud…
you want her in a superman outfit? strange but hey no judging….

I mean, honestly, the blonde is just asking for it.
Edmonton pulled their goalie with 6.5 minutes left?
Seems excessive, they must have been desperate.
Now it is 4-0 Florida and the goalie is back in net.
Goalie pulled again and now Florida up 5-0 with 5m left in the 3rd.
Panthers finished them off, and win the Stanley Cup in dominating fashion.
Iran State TV is warning of a “surprise” tonight, that the world will remember for centuries. Did they actually get a nuclear device built? Are they driving it to Israel to detonate?
A little concerned at the moment.
Maybe the surprise is that the Ayatollah is stepping down.
There were rumors of one low grade, low yield, dirty bomb that got made.
Don’t know if they can get it onto a missile, deliver it to Israel and detonate it.
It would be horrific if they managed all of that.
So if Kirk gives his wife a big smooch, does that mean they are kissing cousins?
Of course.
No Kink Shaming.
Go Marchy! Sorry MT…

Leaving that here, for the few that still feel Kirko has a career as a starting QB in the NFL.
I admit I didn’t click on the link, or read whatever it takes you to. Cousins has the talent to be a starter in the NFL. Last year he was playing in a system that wasn’t designed for him at all. They completely eliminated play action from the offensive scheme, and Cousins is arguably the best play action QB in the league. Even so, through 9 games he was averaging over 264 yards a game and on track for a 4,500 yard season. The team was 6-3, and had beaten Tampa Bay twice to take the Division lead. They beat the Eagles on MNF the second week of the season, with Cousins leading a classic game winning drive with less than two minutes left, and no timeouts.
Then in week 10 against the Saints, the right tackle fell backwards on his ass (basically untouched) and the Saints left DE crashed into Cousins, damaging his shoulder and elbow on his throwing arm. Cousins said he is currently around a 7 or 8 on a scale of 1-10 health wise (8 months later). Folks who think an NFL QB can make a living with a damaged throwing arm need to wake up and smell the coffee.
The Falcons have declared Penix the starter going into this year. What happens if the Falcons go 0-4 to start the season and Penix isn’t really lighting it up? What happens if Purdy goes down in San Francisco? Dare I say it, what happens if McCarthy goes down in the first 3 weeks?
Cousins is a competent, capable starter. Right now teams have made their beds for their starting QB’s but things can change.
With improvements to O-line and healthy i think KC would do very well this year on Purple. Add running game and the D. We will never know.
I agree. I think the Vikings decided that from a fiscal perspective it was better to let Cousins go, especially since he wanted a no trade clause retained in his contract. KAM wants the “flexibility” to trade a player whenever he wants, which is not a bad management position to take. All that said, I don’t think KAM will turn to Cousins if McCarthy goes down.
I can’t read it. DE said earlier….. ‘Kirk is gone,,,move on.’
I’ve moved on the the golf course, until football starts.
DE is the biggest propagator of Cousins discussions on this site. He routinely posts negative views and articles to denigrate him. It’s DE who has not moved on. He is compelled to crap on Cousins at every turn. Then he says “Kirk is gone, move on”. He needs to follow his own advice. I guarantee he won’t.
You are the one who told me to move on.
You should follow your own advice.
No… you need to follow MY advice. I have never initiated a discussion on Cousins since he left. You on the other hand cannot stop talking about him. So follow my advice and get over it.
Well, I talk about him on Tuesday’s…I admit it is hard for me to move on.
I agree with you, he certainly has the talent to be a starting QB in the NFL at a fairly high level. As you pointed out, he was hurt last year. A healthy Cousins can start and do well in the NFL, he does need a good oline though.
Every QB in the NFL needs a very good O-line to excel. Look at Mahomes in the Super Bowl against Tampa when his O-line was decimated. He wasn’t able to do anything. Brady had a top 5 O-line every year of his career in New England (and a top 5 defense). Cousins has had one year in his career with a very good (and healthy) line in front of him. That was in 2016, when he threw for over 4,900 yards in 16 games. Most of his career though he has played behind lines with significant deficiencies.
But he still made it to the SB with that horrible line and didn’t just falter in the regular season.
Remember sort of differently. Both of KC’s starting tackles got hurt in the Championship Game and the backups got destroyed in the SB against Tampa. And just last year, his line got clobbered by the Eagles. Both times, Mahomes had rather poor games.
That’s inaccurate. His line was healthy most of the year. If you recall Eric Fisher led the Chiefs offensive line, earning a Pro Bowl selection. However, he was forced to miss the Super Bowl after suffering a torn achilles tendon in the AFC championship game.
I thought I noted what you said accurately. And, thought it was good advice and was heeding it. Are you now suggesting you didn’t mean it?
And Puker fans think this shirt is a compliment.
…but this ^^^ comment is funny!
Jeebus! That’s low.
Summary:
In typical Skololholics fashion, Tuesday started as a Monday before Tuesday was created.
Manly-purple was a fake first.
Puker fans must be nervous since they show up on a Vikings blog in June.
Freezey discusses white noise. Sounds racist.
It’s Kirk Tuesday. The defenders get upset about this.
Sounds like Bow could make way more money golfing than being a Skoloholics admin.
HunViking got his Dublin tickets after the darkweb stole his info for 8 hours.
Surly is acting surly.
VP joins us on a Tuesday and wants to smash his head against the wall.
Freezey is curious about pride month. Eww….
Pirateflip doesn’t like the F word so he uses PTF which nobody knows what it means.
Since Trump is bragging about something big happening, I assume Israel is cocked and loaded.
Laughing… great video.
Kinda reminds me of “Baghdad Bob”, when we were running through Iraq back in 2003.
Yeah, those were the days. We showed the world how big a fake Iraq was. Did you know the chandeliers in the Royal Palace in Baghdad were plastic?
I did not know that. However, one of my troops grabbed a golden toilet brush… lol…
Allah’s air defense coming up a little short lately.
That’s good!
Not much different than USA media covering mostly peaceful protests.
LOL! That was hilarious!
This must be the new Dem playbook.
Get arrested by ICE and then complain about Hitler or something.
But aren’t they the party of the rule of law.
That’s the claim.
“Nobody is above the law”
They were arresting an Illegal and he decided to get in the middle of it and ‘link arms’ with him during the arrest.
I am sure it will help him with his Woke base. It helps DJT nationally IMHO.
Addison trial date July 15. Guessing 3 games and won’t see him till we go across the pond.
You may continue golf talk.
I would guess the NFL suspends him after the bye.
When the games really start to matter.
California courts take f…o…r…e…v…e…r.
I would not be surprised if Addison’s case is settled after the season is over (next calendar year).
Could he claim to be a gay illegal immigrant?? In California he would never be prosecuted.
I’d think he’s been told he can make retirement money. IQ gets lost on lots of NFL players.
Can you prove he isn’t?? (Sarcasm)
I saw there was a new thread. I’m thinking, cool. But no, it’s mostly golf (snore) and Kirk. The Kirk conversation is like reading a book over and over. The first couple times are okay if it’s a good book, but after the 100th time you want to start smashing your head against the wall.
So… you’re less than thrilled with our intellectually deep themes of the day…
No,
He is just bored with Golf and KC takes.
Which is actually Intellectually Deep of him.
Agreed. Samesies.
Agreed.
But if that is how they want to spend their time and energy then more power to them.
I do reserve the right to make fun of them of course.
Making fun of me is not in the Bill of Rights… thus you’re “right” is wrong. Grin.
Sure it is.
Reread the 1st Amendment.
You must not have read the Democrat Manifesto…
Something like that
We can hate on Ticketmaster. Only took me about 8 hours and a lot of nerves to secure tickets for the Dublin game. Ticketmaster is the 🤬 worst.
But, I now DO have tickets for the game 😍.
Congrats on the tickets, should be a fun game.
Obligatory #nojinx
Thanks, should be great. Time to once again beat the Steelers on European soil!
Just realized, I’m going to cheer against The Douche. Bonus level 😄
A Twofer.
A Viking win and a Douche loss.
#nojinx
Obligatory #nojinx, of course
Cool! Please post pics of the game after it is done.
Will do!
Nice that you are going to that game! Guiness and Vikings football. Sounds perfect.
Thanks! Perfect combination indeed. I love summer, but somehow September can’t roll around soon enough, all of a sudden 😄
Yeah!
i have a new topic for you and am genuinely curious your opinion/take…
sports teams have “pride night”. your religious beliefs hold you in the quandary of if you participate, it seems you are supporting “pride”, if you don’t, well you will be considered a homophobe and could be penalized by your team.
what do you do?
To thine ownself be true.
For me, at this time in my life, I would have this response to whomever is most vocal or demanding that I adhere to their beliefs.
I probably would have already established myself as a homophobe, so people would expect more of the same from me.
Kind of amazing how far off base these people are.
“Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord…none will go unpunished” (Prov. 16:5).
I support people. I don’t always support their decisions.
I know I brought this up the other day, but I posted at the end of day and didn’t really see any replies. I just found out about MENSA and did their online IQ test. I found it very interesting. I expected actual questions kind of like the ACT or something, but it was all pattern recognition – apparently that is a good way to estimate someone’s IQ. Anyways, if anyone has done it or wants to try it I would be interested to hear your thoughts.
Naw, no need to wreck my self image on purpose…
Haha fair enough. The later questions got pretty hard, but I still scored in the 99th percentile and qualified. Maybe you could, too! 🙂
Thank you for the optimism!
I played around with those in High School.
I scored pretty well in the 140s but it didn’t really mean anything.
I learned that smart without hard work was wasted and I was not ready to work hard in High School.
Plus my mom scored in the 150s so it deflated my enthusiasm on the topic.
I took it.
I’m stupid or something. I got 107.
It’s all about recognizing patterns, which is a large part of my job.
Does that equate to a high IQ?
I doubt it.
Just my take.
Yeah, it’s much different that I thought it would be. I would also say that pattern recognition alone is not what makes someone intelligent. I got 135, but there were a lot of guesses between 2 options in some of the late questions.
When in doubt…option B. 😁
Haha. Well it was multiple choice of 5-6 answers, but I could reasonably determine it was likely 1 of 2 options to be correct, so not quite that simple.
Know SoCa hates golf but discussion below makes me want to add one final thought. And this is a suggestion for folks that can’t break 90 regularly.
Gave up golf for about 8 years and have started again pretty seriously. Want to beat my son come September.
So, been practicing and playing. About a month ago, a guy gave me a suggestion – minimalist golf. Try playing with just 7 or 8 clubs.
I gave it a try. I play Driver, 5 wood, hybrid, 7 and 9 irons, SW and putter. And that’s what I practice with. You will be amazed how good you can become with each club when you only have a few. As they saw you sort of “own” these clubs.
My last two nines were 39 and 37 and putting was the difference. And it’s actually really fun to play this way.
For what its worth.
I don’t “Hate Golf”.
I find it boring and I make fun of all of those who talk about it every chance they get.
When I worked as a subcontractor for Cox Communications installing Fiber to the Palos Verdes Peninsula the driving force there was the Golf Channel. I didn’t understand it but it got us a lot of work with people demanding access aka fiber.
Man JR, you’re certainly better than me. My average for 9 holes is around 42 or 43. You’ll need to give me strokes if we ever play.
Just trying to show a way to simplify things to make the game some easier.
Now as you know, if you want to score well in golf you need to be good with three clubs – driver, wedge and putter.
Driving’s for show, putting’s for dough.
You may miss a green once in an while and could use a good wedge shot so your putter can make it.
Yep, but I honestly rarely hit my driver anymore, regardless of the length of the hole. My swing is built on delivering a downward blow on the ball, and of course a driver swing is best when it’s level or slightly moving upward at impact. My internal programming makes it hard to get that working and it’s frustrating to continually get poor results. So, I use the same swing for all the shots I hit.
You should try one of the new mini drivers most brands are offering. They’re like 44 inches and have lofts from 11.5 to 13.5 and are adjustable. they are like the old 2 woods.
Would be great for your type of swing. Lot better than a driver but more fire power than a 3 wood.
Good idea… that makes sense.
Wife has one of those mini-drivers.
Can confirm, it is easy to hit. She hits it further than the calloway epic driver. I still get more yards out of my driver, but the mini drivers are a nice club.
Isn’t mini driver an actress?
According to Wikipedia she is.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnie_Driver
This was the only gif I could find of her.
I remember the high school golf coach would have players play a round with only 1 club. Most chose 5, 6 of 7 iron. Interesting way to practice, but they all improved. I was friends with one of the guys, he let me have 5 clubs and still crushed me with only his 7 iron.
If someone can’t hit a few clubs well, why would think they could hit many better.
To me, all the irons are pretty similar. I spent a lot of time on the driving range and feel confident with all the irons. Take the right approach and don’t over think it. I’ve mainly just found that the way courses are designed, I don’t find myself in a spot where I need a 6 iron.
I don’t know how you score but would guess you could play a round with driver, 7 iron, wedge, putter and do well. Maybe even better.
That’s primarily all I end up using anyway. I just need more than one wedge.
I very rarely touch the 4, 6 or really even the 8 and 9. I use the 5 some depending on the day on par 5s cuz I can get about 230 out of it. If I swing hard I could probably get 240 but I lose consistency in contact. Best drill I ever found for my irons was the foot powder line drill. Now, if I’m hitting irons, I don’t even look at the ball during my swing and it’s way more consistent. Pick a blade of grass at the front of the ball. Oh, and with the serious lack of practice the last couple of years, I think I usually end up around 40-42 on 9 holes.
With your length, you can hit driver, 7 iron and wedge and get on any par. 5 in the world.
But I can hit driver and 5 on some and be on in 2 and that is fun.
And you can hit the five in the junk too. But agree eagles are neat.
Then a gap and SW.
Truthfully, I could play with that setup and score just about the same.
For sure. Like I said, even the 5 maybe leaves the bag once or twice and that’s just on a long par 5.
I’ve heard of one-club golf tournaments. I guess a majority of participants use a 7-iron.
Even with all the clubs in my bag, there are 4 or so that typically never leave my bag.
Yup, me too. If all goes well, I don’t touch my SW, LW or rescue hybrid as well as some of the longer irons.
I use my Hybrid to chip with sometimes.
I mean it’s no secret or anything, but Ticketmaster is the fucking worst.
I didn’t know that they had infected Europe.
Condolences.
They have.. been queuing to get tickets for the Dublin game for like 6 hours, only to get booted off the site when my turn came for “suspicious activity”. Ticketmaster really, really sucks.
Well, the NFL sucks as well, because I signed up to get “notified” as to when Dublin tickets would go on sale, and I haven’t received any notification.
Yup, both the NFL and Ticketmaster are “great” at costumer service. Tickets went on sale today at noon, Dublin time. I at least got the notification…
Hey KFEY, saw your comment on the other thread about only having a pitching wedge in your bag. I agree with JR, that you need at least a sand wedge of around 56 degrees as well. Personally, I carry four wedges. Pitching wedge, Gap Wedge, Sand Wedge, and Lob Wedge (60 degrees). I learned a long time ago that being able to pitch a ball onto a green successfully from 75 yards in, saves a lot of strokes.
The highest iron I have is a 6 iron. Then I have a hybrid, seven wood, five wood, three wood, and a driver. The key to good scoring really boils down to being able to hit pretty consistent distances, with pretty consistent direction. Until recently, I hit my pitching wedge 90 yards very consistently. I hit my gap wedge 75 yards very consistently. I hit my 9 iron around 100 yards consistently. Etc, etc. Because I had very consistent yardages, I was able to be good at choosing a club and hit a decent shot. Now that I’m suddenly hitting the ball longer due to a change in my left wrist at impact, I’m having to recalibrate a bit. But the formula remains the same.
The 75 yard range is the key, because let’s face it, we should be able to hit a ball within 75 yards of the green with our approach shot. I purposely land short of the trouble around the green (bunkers and water) by as much as 30 yards on occasion to ensure I don’t cost myself a stroke needlessly. From 30 yards I can easily toss a ball onto the green with my 60 degree wedge close enough to the pin to ensure a two putt at worst.
Practicing pitching with a few wedges in your backyard, park, or golf course, will ultimately lower your score, and it doesn’t cost you anything.
What is a “gap wedge?”
Is that just a club somewhere between pitching and sand?
So you maybe use your hybrid in a three-iron situation?
Yes. Little stronger than a sand wedge, little weaker than a pitching wedge. For years I have hit my pitching wedge about 90 yards, my gap wedge about 75 yards, and my sand wedge about 65 yards.
I think I’m about 115 sand, 130 gap and 150 pitching. 60 degree is right at 75 and unless the green is super hard I can usually stop it where it lands.
That’s very impressive Bow. Very impressive indeed.
It would be better if I could make it out more than once or twice a year like I used to. I didn’t know until I bought the clubs I have now that the loft of irons isn’t standard which is stupid. When I tried them out, the irons I ended up getting, I was hitting the 7 iron consistently 20 yards further than the others I tried. Came to find out it’s because the loft on my 7 iron is closer to the loft of a 5 iron in other clubs. Sounds pretty cool to be able to say I can hit my 7 iron 210-220 though.
Hitting a 5 iron 210-220 is amazing, so even if your 7 iron has a 5 iron loft, you have pro level distance. Really impressive.
Just about ll the new sets of irons have jacked up irons and a 7 iron today is about the same loft of a 5 iron 25 years ago. There’s several reasons for this and mainly because manufacturers believe people want to believe they can hit a particular club (brand further.). At the pro level, it has to do with the changes to the golf ball itself.
This^^^
My 15 year old TM R-11 irons:
4 – 21 degree, 220 (roughly)
5 – 24, 200
6 – 28, 180
7 – 32, 165
8 – 36, 150
9 – 40, 135
PW – 45, 120
AW – 50, 105 but mostly used for shorter finesse shots
SW – 56 (-14), not used for made approach shots…mostly for bunkers
LW – 60, used when in a $hitty place to get the ball into a better place (Oakmont-like rough for example)
I have Taylor Made M6’s.
5 – 21.5
6 – 25
7 – 28.5
8 – 33
9 – 38
PW – 43.5
AW – 49
SW – 54
Looks like close to one club different.
My 7 iron is 31 degrees.
Christ Jrobert take the damn thing out of the refrigerator!
Here’s the spec’s on my irons:
How old?
I think the 0211’s came out in 2021.
👍
They initially retailed for around $1,600 a set (4-SW) but I got a set on-line for $250 with a 3 iron and a gap wedge included. That would add around $360 for the set, so it probably retailed at close to $2,000.
The clubs looked like they had never been hit when I got them.
You play on the PGA Tour?
Indeed… that is some serious distance. Pro level for sure.
It helps that I’m tall and still flexible. In high school I could drive 320+, but I swung like Daly and my driver head would be level with my knee on my backswing. I shortened that because it wasn’t very consistent and now can still push 290-300. My irons are like 1 1/2 inch extra with stiff shafts. The lie or whatever is different too, but I don’t remember what that offset was.
I have serious envy…
And I waste the one talent I might have had by working too much, hanging out with the kids and maybe golf one scramble and one 18 a year now. I golfed league for a couple of years but it just got to be too much.
I found it was great to play golf with my kids. Wife would come along and we would have a lot of fun.
My kids are just getting old enough to start trying to take them. The biggest problem is the courses around here are always so busy. The course next to my house is the busiest in the state.
That is hard.
Late in the day may work.
Too much going on after work usually. I need to just start going and getting nine in early before work, but then no beer and I don’t know if that will work either.
Understand. Was thinking maybe like 4 pm on a Saturday when not to many folks are interested in teeing off then.
But understand with work and young kids, getting everyone together is really tough.
No. I can hit it far and have gotten fairly consistent with my irons, but I miss a lot still and since I don’t play very often anymore my putting is nothing to write home about.
Actually it’s nice to hit the ball long, but it’s a game of distance and direction. And for distance, especially with irons – it’s OK to hit your 8 iron 150, but one needs to hit it 150 all the time, not 145, not 155.
In his prime Jack Nicklaus hit his 7 iron 147. Interestingly, he said not 148, not 148, but 147 every time.
Yeah, it might be more frustrating to get to a par 5 green in 2 and still bogey it. I’ve noticed a lot of par 5’s that I could technically get to in 2 but there is too many sand traps and such so the smarter play is to stop 30 yards short and have an easy chip on in regulation. Unless in a scramble with one sitting good already. Then let the big dog eat.
Like most sports. a lot of the game is played between the ears.
The most fun I had golfing only lasted 4 1/2 holes. It was for league and I had to golf against one of the employees of the course. He’s pretty good, close to scratch golfer and super cocky about it, but being league, he had to give me 6 or so shots. We go to start and his buddy starts bragging right away. I kept my mouth shut and he hit a nice drive down the middle of the fairway. I stepped up, put one down the middle, 20 yards closer than him. 75 yard shot to 3 feet, tap in for birdie. He got pissed immediately and said there was no way my handicap was what I claimed and I was a cheater. I managed to keep it going and through 4 holes I was beating him by 1 or 2 strokes, straight up. It started raining so the last 2 holes he was calling the clubhouse after every shot to see if they cancelled. Lucky for him, half way through hole 5 they did. I think I was 1 or 2 under through 4. I really wish I could have finished that round. The closest to feeling that locked in was when I shot a 78 on the same course with a buddy.
Man, that was really unfortunate that you couldn’t complete that round. Loud mouths irritate me. Shut up and play your game.
Hoping you can build on the 4 and half holes sometime.
Someone thats not a pro that is that insecure about their golf game and cant just have a good time with good friendly competition is a loser imo. You would have beat him if his mental game was already off after one hole.
Yeah. I see the same thing at softball and have gotten to the point that I just feel bad for those guys that have nothing going for them in their life but slow pitch softball, in Billings, MT.
God thats depressing lol
Yep. A couple are decent guys outside of softball but it feels like 90% of the people there have nothing else and I know way too many people that have gotten DUIs leaving the fields, especially at tournaments. My wife and I have a pretty good relationship, but it’s crazy how many times somebody has told her that we are the “gold standard” at the softball fields.
Those were the days.
15 years ago I was close to 150 with my pitching wedge.
I’m lucky to get 115 now.
Me Too! 20 years ago I remember having to “lighten up” on my 9 from 145….Now days my 9 is about 125. I read somewhere that after age 40 you lose 1 yard per year…I have probably lost about 2 yards per year.
Same.
I think different strokes for different folks on the multiple wedges thing. I would say the more ‘advanced’ golfers carry at least 2 wedges besides their sand wedge.
However there is a school of thought that says the less serious/talented golfers are better off learning how to hit one wedge consistently from 100 yards in.
That’s me, I tried having multiple wedges but I found I was better off just swinging softly with a pitching wedge from 40 yards rather than trying to master a gap or loft wedge.
My brother however, cannot do that, he needs different wedges from different distances…he struggles to adjust his swing speed based on distance. Interestingly I am a much better golfer than he is, but normally the better golfers carry multiple wedges.
I’m in your camp.
I’ve been golfing for 50+ years.
I’ve never had anything but a pitching wedge.
No sand wedge. No gap wedges. Ever.
I’ve learned to hit the shot with the pitching wedge, no matter the distance or the lie.
I still predominantly use a 6 Iron along the fringe over putting.
Yep…And that is fine!
Yes sir.
85-90 is still 85-90 regardless of the equipment used.
It’s not the equipment. It’s the person using the equipment, unless the equipment is more than 10 years old.
Truth!
So that’s my problem.
If your equipment is that old, then that is definitely part of the problem.
My equipment is older than that. I don’t own any golf clubs
You can get out of fluffy sand well with a PW? that takes talent.
Sometimes, yes.
“Well” depends on the definition. But usually on the green.
Not necessarily near the pin though.
If I only carry one wedge, it’s SW because of the sand.
For me it’s about the distance. When I only had PW and 60 degree, there’s just too big of a gap. I hit a 60 degree consistently 75 yards and my PW is about 150. Way easier for me to pull a SW out at 115 than a 3/4 PW.
Different schools of thought for sure NoDak, and different perspectives. For me, I’d rather master 3 shots with four clubs, than 12 shots with one. I can learn to pull off three shots far easier than 12.
Just my way of thinking.
Yup, you are echoing my thoughts exactly! A 56 degree and a sand was what I was looking at for my next purchases. I have Irons 3-9, driver, 3 wood, putter and pitching wedge currently. If I can improve my short game I know I should be breaking 90 consistently. Im almost always in position to par most par 4 and 5s but my chipping isnt great so I end up always having long puts which makes it hard.
I live a 60 degree and do a lot of bump and runs with my 5 or 7.
I love Kirk Tuesday. It finally gives Tuesday an identity.
Here is an AI image of Kirk with a kitten…
I never realized his left hand was so mangled, its a wonder he could handle the snap.
Maybe that explains the grilling.
Those legs look scrawnier than Teddy’s too.
Ah, Kirko refers to Kirk Hinrich. That makes sense.
Just felt like mixing it up, we can talk about other Kirks haha
Can you imagine Shatner having to do several takes to get that scene right?
The Shat doesn’t do retakes.
Because it is Kirk Tuesday, I like to post current interesting links related to Kirk Cousins:

Thank you for attention.
You could go over to TheFalcoholic if you miss the discussions….
https://www.thefalcoholic.com/2025/6/15/24449209/the-falcoholic-reacts-kirk-cousins-future-after-aaron-rodgers-joins-pittsburgh-falcons-raheem-morris
You guys are the ones leading the “discussions” that are nothing more than denigration attacks on arguably one of the best QB’s the franchise has ever had. He lives rent free in your head. You should get over it DE.
Since I value playoff wins more than other QB stats, and yes, playoff wins are both a QB stat and a team stat, Kirko is not even in the top 5.
His 1 playoff win ties him with the exalted Case Keenum, Rich Gannon, Steve Dils, Gus Frerotte, Bubby Brister, and Jeff George.
Not exactly HOF material there.
Wow, I didn’t know Steve Dils had a playoff win. I need to look that one up.
…
Oh wow, what a coincidence for Kirk Tuesday!
Dils beat the Falcons in a 1982 wild card game.
I personally use leading fourth quarter comebacks. Now I have no idea how many Cousins has, but I like the criteria.
Here is stat most people don’t know. 27 times in Cousins career he led a scoring drive to take the lead in the fourth quarter, and the team lost. 13 of those losses occurred inside the last two minutes of the game.
Kirk is in the past.
Shouldn’t you just get over yourself and move on?
When folks want to talk about Cousins, I’m fine with having the conversation. That is different than consistently initiating the discussion.
Well, if you can follow this thread, you see that No Dak Initiated the discussion on this topic.
I was kidding some.
Have found in sports, and just about any other subject, people pick criteria (or a metric) that supports where they’re at to begin with.
Good QBs don’t have to come back in the 4th quarter because they score enough in the first 3 quarters.
Tom Brady has the most 4th Qtr comebacks of all time.
Guess he wasn’t a very good QB.
Guess not. I think he was just lucky with the teams around him and had more good teams around him than any QB in the history of the NFL.
Manning is 2nd to Brady, 46-43. Guess he wasn’t very good either, or just almost as lucky.
Weak arm. Loaded WR rooms and one of the best GMs ever.
It was a spoof at people who picks metrics to support their predetermined position.
QB play contributes greatly to a teams chances to win for sure. Poor QB play pretty much guarantees a team is gonna lose a lot of games. That said, good or even great QB play doesn’t guarantee a win. There have been 27 NFL games where the QB eclipsed the 500 yard passing mark, and 12 of those games his team lost.
Cousins has been consistently good his entire career. His play here was exceptional, finishing with a career passer rating over 100 for us in his 88 games. That is top shelf QB play. You can hate on him all you want, but Cousins was pretty much the one player who tended to play very well game in, and game out. The fact is, in his time here, the passing game was the only part of the team that was really good every single year.
yet somehow, there are now 3 fanbases what wish he never was on their team.
All three franchises are better off since moving away from Kirk starting. ATL will have some pain until they are out from under the salary anchor. MN and WA are both much better off today than they were with Kirk.
The decrier’s are always the loudest. That doesn’t mean they are in the majority.
Vikings are currently over the 2026 cap number, so these picks will likely be replacements for the March 2026 cuts.
i’m not worried about the 2026 cap
since you were probably wondering
Not yet, anyway.
Come February, all of the “what are we going to do we are over the cap…” screams will dominate the threads. Perhaps sooner.
We have already has some of those discussions.
Future problem that we have zero control over.
Speculate to your hearts content, some of us will sit that out.
Yes, we haven’t even played one down this year yet.
I’m not ready to debate it either.
Just pointing out plenty of draft picks for the impending purge needed come March. Every team has to do it.
And teams get picked over pretty hard after winning the SB.
oh i know. but when we are hoisting the lombardi, it will all be white noise
I was hoping for the Super Bowl comment !!
Morning! I think that mentally deficient Packers fan was drunk on yesterdays thread last night. “Our High Powered Offense” – Bro your best WRs would be 3 and 4 on our depth chart and your top TE would be 2-3 as well. Vikings trenches just got better as well. I think its a younger fan because they lack critical thinking.
I’d argue that most Puker fans lack critical thinking in general.
I mean, they actually think they are owners of the team.
They have paper that says they are owners and you’re just jealous that they have won Super Bowls.
Yeah.
Their default final argument is “13 world titles”, where most of those titles occurred with 6 teams in the league, against teams that don’t even exist today.
I figured it was some local “reporter” or somebody from a Packer blog looking for opposing teams’ views for an article. I only saw the initial question and didn’t see if there was any follow up though.
He came back late last night and started in again using Pucker Logic.
Yeah initially it seemed fine enough. Then they came back at 930 at night and started talking shit lol
I’ll go check it out if I get bored.
i’m sure it’s just some troll.
nothing more. nothing less.
Agreed, he came across as a young kid trying to stir up some shit.
Most people lack critical thinking, not just young people. Can’t really generalize there, IMO.
Perhaps critical self reflection is a better wording? Either way, he was delusional about GBs offense.
Hey, they have like three #2 and 3 #3 WRs and that’s obviously better than one one or even Addison and Jefferson together.
And some said he would ONLY play if Kirko was around…..
Or Jefferson would suck without Kirko……

There’s a reason I chose Jets for my Skoloholic’s profile.
that’s good, right?
I wonder who threw him most of those yards…. Probably could have done it with Josh Dobbs, I’m sure…. lol
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!
FTP Auto Rec.
First. FTP. FTL.
Only by a split second. Still. if your not first…
Maybe first. And ptf.
Packers the f*ck?
Puck the Fack (have to watch what I say, I have kids. Plus I don’t use the F word in general anyway.)
First 2 days in a row! I’m on a roll! Oh wait this is still Tuesday, no wonder I’m tired.
