Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Happy Tuesday, everyone! Holy moley, it’s been a crazy week here. A billion thank-yous to Surly and Ben for posting the thread.
We’re also prepping for our annual draft get-together at our place. On Thursday, we plan to put a brisket on the smoker and boil crab legs, along with scotcharoos and some other snacks. Kiddo and I might make our seafood gumbo one night, and I have a tri-tip sirloin roast for the smoker as well for one day. If nothing else, we’ll eat well. Hopefully the Kwesi-free Vikings will have a more successful draft than what we Vikings fans have become accustomed to.
Absolutely, 100% yes, AD is a first-ballot Hall-Of-Famer. He should be, anyway.
Vikings & NFL News
From Vikings.com, HC Kevin O’Connell talks about his goals for the team’s 2026 offseason program. Also, Justin Jefferson talked about his offseason workouts with McCarthy and welcoming Kyler Murray to the team.
Yahoo Sports talks about trade rumors around the Vikings camp, including some chatter regarding Jonathan Greenard.
From NFL.com, Jimmy Garroppollo is considering retirement from the NFL. Also, the Cowboys signed K Brandon Aubrey to a four-year, $28 million contract extension. Yikes, the second-best kicker in the league just got PAID.
CBS Sports claims that the Steelers are being ‘held hostage’ again by Aaron Rodgers. Gee, that’s just a tad hyperbolic.

It’s Wednesday slackers……..
Morning folks… obviously the draft starts tomorrow so we’ll see how our front office does. I won’t be watching because they have turned it into a full on overblown hype show and I just don’t care for all the over the top crap. I’m a meat and potatoes guy not a spinach and Gruyère soufflé guy.

#yea!
I had a rash on my testicles, so I went to see a woman doctor, and she was holding my testicles.
She said, “You’ve got to stop Masturbating.”
I said “why?”
She said “because I’m trying to examine you.”
The next reply should be….
‘I will if you finish what you interrupted’.
Better late than never??
Depends on where you are going.
Point.
Late to the bathroom could get …….. messy.
Should the Vikings go after Alabama LB Justin Jefferson, or would that just be one too many J.J.’s on the team?
I asked that exact question a couple of weeks ago and no-one responded.
Hope you have more luck.
Oh Wait.
Laughing… sorry I missed that.
You and everyone else here.
But then I am used to it. #sigh
Only 4 people on here.
I wonder why??
Now I want one of these…
Fit in a conventional space or would there be a required remodel??
The Teacher and I are considering upgrading to a gas stove but we would have to run a gas line to the kitchen as those are not standard here in Idaho.
It looks like it’s three times as wide as a conventional oven to me, so yeah, gonna have to have it custom fitted.
I believe that The Teacher would rather have the counter space.
This is kind of funny…
‘stock yardages’
Is that like a ‘Stock Yard’ where they keep cattle and such??
Compared to what, private stock yards or the big corp ones?
At Penn Relays tonight. It is Archdiocese of Philadephia night. Grandson is anchoring the 4×100 meter relay. 77 other schools
Top 9 go to finals on Thursday. Last year they got 22nd, but they are faster this year. He hopes they make it, they get to skip the day of school.
Good luck to him/them.
Awesome! Good luck!
Just realized we bought my wife’s Challenger R/T 4 years ago today. Last payment is on 9 May (48 month loan). She has less than 8,500 miles on her.
Nice car.
I love not having a car payment. However, I hate driving my 10 year old Kia…..
Yep.
No car payments in our household.
We have 2024 and 2026 vehicles.
I looked at getting a new SUV. Honda or Toyota or Nissan. Then I did the math, and would rather pay off the home a few years earlier instead. Double house payments will let me retire or take more vacations sooner vs getting a car, so that is my plan unless the shitty Kia fully dies. Only 65k for miles, but I feel like I am driving a go-cart down the road.
We have 2018 and 2011, haven’t had car payments in quite a while, but going to have to hit the refresh button pretty soon.
Same.
2009 Tacoma and a 2018 Honda CRV.
I “win?”. 2004 Jeep Liberty, 2005 Kodiak camper, 2012 Nissan Frontier, and 2012 Chevy Express, no loans. Over 185k on Jeep and 12 passenger van. The van is going to Florida for the 3rd time (well actually 4th, got it from there when it was one year old (shuttle vehicle).
Yeah… kind of a trade off for sure. She’s already saying she wants an SRT Hellcat. I’m like… yeah, no.
I do what you probably do. I drive my cars until they are not worth fixing, then pay cash and get a new one. 10 years later, repeat
Both our 2017’s (Jeep for her and Ram for me) have less than 100k and doing GR8! (No jinxes!)
Your wife doesn’t have many miles on her at all. Should be quite a few years before you trade her in.
Yep… has nice abs, and still rocks a bikini too!
She must be my wifes twin sister……

You don’t taek a loan out for a fun car. SMDH.
What are the chances McCarthy comes in and wins the starting QB position over Murray? 50/50?
20/80 given a Murray injury.
About the same as Wentz’s odds.
So the McCarthy era is in suspended animation in his 3rd year?
Nothing is known at this point, Murray will probably get hurt at some point during the year and JJ (QB) will get his chance.
2027 has it’s own possibilities.
I think Murray starts the season as the #1 QB unless he decides to not read the playbook.
JJ and Wentz both see playing time because everyone gets hurt again.
Fair take.
Which is possible. 🤣
IMHO…it’s a total reset to McCarthy’s freshman year: he starts as QB2 until he either usurps Checkdown Murray or until Checkdown Murray gets hurt.
The beauty is, “None of us know”. It is all opinion and conjecture. Kind of like a Mel Kipper mock draft. Let’s wait to see what happens in training camp.
That’s why it’s percentage question. In your mind do you think it’s a 50/50 chance?
I have no clue. I am not a Murray fan, but at that price we would be crazy not to sign him. He is not the long tetm solution though. JJMac may not be either!
‘that price we would be crazy not to sign him’
What price is that???
We are paying him 1.3 million
Ahhh you were talking this last signing.
‘we would have be crazy not to sign him’ FIFY
It’s always a 50/50 chance. Probability is closer to 60/40, with the 60 going to Murray.
Zero.
Are you saying like out the gate? Or any time during the season even with injuries and such? If it’s out the gate, very low chances. Murray gets injured and JJ comes in and plays good enough to take over… I mean it’s a better chance than the former lol.
It’s Kyler’s job to lose.
McCarthy would have to be perfect leading up to the season to take the gig – and that includes OTA’s and all of camp.
Or a Kyler injury. 🤞praying that doesn’t happen – to any of our players.
Not saying Kyler is the guy long term – he also might fizzle out and McCarthy gets a shot.
But if the season started tomorrow, I’d bet it’s #1 taking snaps.
I agree that Kyler will most probably start. However, I still think JJ has a chance to earn the job if Murray is as lazy or stupid as reported during his time in AZ.
I think some of that was overblown. We get to find out on the bargain deal.
Rooting for JJ, expecting DOOM
It’s Kirk Tuesday!!!
Fernando Mendoza’s Kirk Cousins comments prove they’re two peas in a pod
Mendoza on Cousins “He’s not only a great player, he’s a great leader of men”.
Well said young man, well said.
I would wish them both ‘good luck’ but then I am not a Gay-der fan.
Kubiak as a rookie head coach? Taking over a team that was 3-14 last year? In a Division with three bona fide contenders? Yeah… I don’t see Mendoza or Cousins doing much more than improving the offense a little. That’s not gonna win a lot of games though. I’d be surprised if they were 8-9 this year.
But…but they got Nailor so they are ‘all better’ now.
Yeah well, there’s not much chance any single player is going to make a 3-14 team into a winner overnight. Most HC’s will tell you it takes three years of good drafting and other player selections to turn a franchise around. That doesn’t mean winning the Division either. It means winning more games than you lose, and being in contention in the games you don’t win.
‘ there’s not much chance any single player is going to make a 3-14 team into a winner’
I thought Nailor plus KC equals 2 players?? Not to mention draft picks and new coaching staff.
I hope that they don’t improve much but I am not ruling it out.
Laughing… OK… touche’ Monsieur pussycat. I see a lot of posting on Twitter that Mendoza is about to turn the franchise around, much like we were told McCarthy was going to do here. That is simply irrational and unrealistic though. Rookies come into the NFL devoid of any understanding of NFL offensive schemes, or defensive schemes. The pro game is way faster and far more complex than college. All the things a QB is responsible for knowing and executing are multiplied by a factor of 10. Unless they land on a team fully built, and ready to carry them while they evolve, these guys will always struggle initially. Mahomes either threw the ball short in front of the defense to an always open Kelce, or threw it over the defense to Tyreek Hill outrunning everyone. When that wasn’t there, he simply took off running. That worked early on, then he started being able to read defenses in his 4th year.
So I guess I was focusing on the commentary that a QB can come in and change a teams fortune immediately. If they’re a rookie, definitely the deck is stacked against them. If they’re a vet, they likely will be able to add something to the offense, but that still doesn’t guarantee wins.
‘touche’ Monsieur pussycat’
Why I got to be a ‘pussycat’?
If I have to be feline ‘Tomcat’ is way more my style.
You’re clearly not a Tom and Jerry fan…
Can I not be a ‘Tom and Jerry’ fan and still consider myself more of a Tomcat than a Pussycat??
Yes, but then my comment makes no sense… grin.
Touche’
1 on 4 QBs drafted in the first round turn out to be consistent starters in their career. Odds are always stacked against them. The Bears and Browns know that!
I actually didn’t know that data point. Thanks!
Laughing… that dog won’t hunt here with some die hard Cousins haters… but carry on NoDak.
I’m sure it all has to do with how to hustle NFL teams for guaranteed money.
I doubt Mendoza has his sights on 1 playoff win over a 14 year career.
Forgot about Tuesday.
Kirko Sucks!
Right now, we have four picks in the top 100 selections in the draft. There are over 3,000 players eligible for the draft. Basically the top 100 selections are around the top 3% of all the eligible athletes. You’d think those four selections would be really good players.
I have no doubt there are at least 100 really good players in this years draft. Can our brain trust find them?
Finding them is part of the equation, so is being position to get them. #18 should get us one, After that it depends on how the draft develops during day 2 and 3.
Potential can be found all over the draft. Identifying, procuring, and developing them are also keys to success.
One would think that all those scouts watching all that film, and evaluating all those players, could find four good ones in the top 100 picks. Actually the top 97 to be exact.
Scouts are less able to evaluate Heart, Will, and future injuries. Or death in the case of a certain prior drafted CB, Rip young man.
RIP indeed.
Hmmm…
Well shit, he is one I thought the Vikes might get.
Still might/can…just later in the draft.
Yeah him and Caleb Banks (foot) are great when healthy, only they are having issues staying healthy.
Players dealing with/recovering from injuries are problematic. They will fall in the draft which offers an opportunity but it could also represent a trend which could negatively impact their NFL career.
Pass.
No thank you.
1st rounder needs to be healthy from the jump – no questions, no concerns, no ‘doctors are saying….’
no.
I agree.
But also ‘Past performance is not a guarantee of future results’. Plus Vikings.
You’d think there would be several dozen players in colleges across the country who stand out as a “man among boys”. These guys are all basically 5 star recruits since high school.
BTW I’m not sold on Arch Manning.
@What???? He’s basically Joe Namath without the fur coat@
So let’s hope he gets to the Jets so he car replicate all that.
I watched Arch play a lot these last 2 years. He is no way as polished as Mendoza, or McCarthy……
I watched a few games too as my wife graduated from Texas with her Masters. I agree he’s not as polished as you’d expect, and misses a lot of throws.
The Mets, with the 2nd largest payroll in MLB, will have the Twinkies help them break their 11 game losing streak. NYC and Murderopilus, they kind of deserve each other.

well i stayed up really late to watch the wild and wolves, at least one team didn’t disappoint
I stopped watching when the Wolves were down 19. Congrats on the comeback.
Second largest playoff comeback in franchise history.
I stayed up also. Big comeback by the wolves to steal one on the road. Both teams stole one on the road, so tied up, coming back to minny.
‘Both teams stole one on the road’
Not so much since they have only played in Denver so far.
Unless you are speaking of the Wild?
AP wont make the hall imo.
That would be criminal, IMHO.
I kinda agree with both your opinions. Fingers crossed we are wrong.
Child abuse, bankruptcy and being a Viking are tough to overcome.
AP should for sure be in the Hall of Fame. I can’t believe it’s even a discussion.
His game did have weaknesses, he may have been the worst pass blocking RB I have ever seen. He also sucked as a receiver out the backfield.
I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to say that he may have been one of the greatest 3 rushers of all time – speed, agility, vision, balance, power.
Of course the whole beating his kid thing may keep him out for a bit.
Certainly not on the first ballot.
He should be in the hall at some point.
But HOF voters are idiots.
They kept Belichick out.
Are the Raiders superb owl contenders, asking for a friend.
But the answer is, it depends on how soon Mendoza is ready to start
Were the Redskins, Vikings or Falcons ever superbowl contenders during those stints?
Everyone is a contender at this point!
As long as you definition of ‘contender’ is inclusive enough everyone is.
Ok.
How much will you bet today on the Raiders being in the super bowl this season?
I don’t bet, I’m just saying no games played means everyone is a contender to play in the superb owl, would you have considered the Seachickens to be contenders this time last year?
So definition of Contender = Betting Odds??
What were the SeaChickens odds at the beginning of 2025, or NE?
No. I didn’t say that.
But if you are not willing to money where your mouth is on a team to win the super bowl, odds are, you don’t think they will contend for a superbowl.
Who would you bet $100 skoloholics bucks on to win the super bowl this season?
The Raiders or 6 other teams with a history of winning?
If you don’t choose the Raiders, it means you don’t think they are a contender.
I have learned over 4 Super Bowls not to bet on the NFL after going 0-4.
So if you don’t bet on a team they are not contenders? Everyone is allowed one ‘contender’ that they are willing to bet on? Trying to understand your logic/take here.
If I put up $1,000 for you.
You bet nothing.
If you pick the Super Bowl winner, I give you $1,000. It’s a free lottery to you.
Who are you taking to win the Super Bowl this year? If you guess it it right, I give $1,000.
who are you taking?
Is this a continuation of our discussion or is it a new/different tangent that you are starting??
