Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
4 long weeks until training camp. The good news is, no Vikings are in the news currently so we can be bored. In the interim, the new season of Quarterbacks will be on Netflix soon, and we can watch that to see a couple good QB’s during last season. Oh, Kirk is in the show as well.
NFL News
Other than collusion to stop guaranteeing contracts, I did not see any major stories to follow. Normal idiots saying idiot things until the season starts.

Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

69 in Minny. Raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock.
On the bright side it should cancel Twins game.
94, high humidity and hotter than hell here. Oh well, summer in Florida and I love our Governor.
Trade you. You get tampon.
We lived in the ‘High Desert’ in SoCal.
So we traded better state and local government for better weather when we moved here.
A little bit colder winters for summers that are not brutally hot.
It was a ‘dry heat’ though.
Trade – only if you throw in that charming Congress women you have up there. You know the one who married her brother,
Man, her and Tim you’ve got quite a pair going for you there. Make good alligator bait down here.
That would give the poor gators indigestion.
Trump labels Mamdani ‘a 100% Communist Lunatic’.
Trump suggested (facetiously) the dims nominate Crockett/AOC for P/VP.
Well put.
The Left/Socialist arm of the Democruds are pulling the party even further left.
I guess they want to drive their national approval even lower the historical low it’s at currently.
Stupidity of their voting base is mind boggling.

I guess CA gas prices are headed for $8 per gallon because of Newscums energy/climate policies.
Have paid $7+ a gallon there before and seen even higher.
Paid $2.78 here last week but the price is up over #3 a gallon now.
Article is a little long but I found it interesting. I think, from an organizational perspective, we are in for sustained high level competitiveness in the NFL. Lombardi here we come.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45550899/nfl-minnesota-vikings-zygi-mark-wilf-owners-jj-mccarthy
That was a good read. Thanks for sharing.
I didn’t read the article. Headed to the dentist. I wonder if the fact that we are way over the cap already for next year was considered? It’s just my opinion, but I think we’re going to have to let a number of players go to meet the cap.
And/Or some restructure some contracts.
Just like every other year.
Correct.
Every team does it.
There will likely be a few choices made that we know it all fans won’t like.
Well, not exactly. Every team is NOT heavily over the cap to the extent we are, so no, not every team deals with this kind of cap issue “every year”. In fact well over half the teams in the league are in excellent to very good shape cap wise next year. We will be forced to actually let guys go, and replace them with cheaper guys.
The Vikings are currently last in the league with minus $59M in space, compared to the Chargers who are plus $118M in cap space.
Next years problem that KAM already has a plan for.
I have better things to worry about.
But you do you.
I asked a simple question regarding an article talking about sustained high level competitiveness in the NFL. Did they consider we are going to be forced to cut players next year?
FYI
I posted a story about Hock and JJ (QB) and it has dissolved into a KC debate.
And it is not even Tuesday.
I call ‘Olly Olly Oxen Free’.
And remember, I am apparently the number#1 bad instigator, according to our local expert, yet I haven’t commented on it.
It’s America, better to be number one than a mere runner up.
And I wasnt even here for it so I cant be blamed…this time.
Making American Beer Great Again.
For you Beer Drinkers, I don’t claim to be knowledgeable on the subject.

I tend to like most all beers save for the fruity and lite ones.
Same.
Love craft brews.
I always try the local craft selection wherever I eat out.
I like doing a craft flight where you choose 4 of the various craft selections in 4 oz glasses.
For sure, lots of great craft beers.
Something seems missing here.
Not even any ‘Recently Bias’.
And now does PFF grade HC??
One man’s opinion. Pundits posing as “experts” posting their views. No need to pay any attention to people like this. You and I have brains. You and I can see, understand, and decide. We do not need someone else to tell us anything.
But how can you put something out and pretend to be serious and not include the reigning COTY?
That was the point of my commentary. The author is providing his opinion as “gospel”. Everybody listen to me, because I know more than you.
Well son, no you don’t. Clearly.
Sean Payton and Mike Tomlin in the top 5?
Both are over the hill.
This is like grading figure skating.
The main criteria on this list is winning a superbowl.
I’m good with the top 6, although Tomlin is likely the DEI choice.
KOC should definitely be in the 7-10 range.
I mean, Kevin Stefanski? How much did he pay them to get on the list?
In rare NFL/Viking news Hock says JJ (QB) is ‘his boy’, not in a DNA type of way.
Plus Hock is working out at Tight End University, that doesn’t sound gay at all.
https://www.foxnews.com/sports/vikings-tight-end-raves-about-j-j-mccarthy-says-quarterback-has-switch-insane-arm
The tightest of ends
Tightest or homelessest?
Yes.
my first thought at his picture was “Who’s the homeless guy?”
@Even working on Tuesday@
Well Surly, let me add some context here, if you don’t mind.
Monday’s theme is adjustment. Mornings begin early, between 6 and 8 a.m. for most teams, and involve a weightlifting session designed to reduce soreness from the prior day and promote flexibility for the tough week ahead.
Players also receive therapeutic intervention and treatment for injuries. Weight and therapy sessions are followed by a team breakfast, then grueling team meetings, tape review, and breakout meetings for groups like special teams, linemen, and offense.
Tuesdays are an NFL-wide “day off” as mandated by the NFL Players Association. Of course, this doesn’t mean you’ll find top-tier athletes taking it easy. Many NFL stars use Tuesday as an extra practice day. They work on conditioning, skill-building, or by studying game film.
Wednesday marks a pivotal point in the week for most teams. By mid-week, coaches will have an idea of what the team did wrong the prior Sunday as well as what the team needs to do against its upcoming opponent. Because of this, Wednesday is typically the longest day of the week. It’s known as install day spent learning a new playbook for the coming week.
Thursday looks a lot like Wednesday as in-depth practices continue. The game plan for the coming week is revised and fine-tuned. Each area of focus has meetings to further develop game-day strategy. Coaches also use this time to tweak the upcoming playbook based on information from scouts, film, and progress on the field.
Friday is the final day to refine the team’s offensive and defensive sets. It’s also typically a short day, with practices and meetings held until the early afternoon only. This is the final chance for players to show they’ve mastered the playbook before a game.
Saturdays look different depending on whether the game is at home or away. If the game is at home, the early part of the day involves a walk-through practice, meaning players train at half speed.
The offense and defense will make any last-minute adjustments to scenarios specific to the team they will play. If the game is away, most of Saturday is spent traveling. Then, a sit-down team meeting takes place before dinner and curfew at the hotel later that night.
This is how the typical NFL work week is executed across the league.
Reader Digest Condensed Version.
‘Tuesdays are an NFL-wide “day off” as mandated by the NFL Players Association’
Laughing… I wanted folks to get a better understanding of how NFL players spend their week. The point about Tuesdays is just part of the commentary.
Hopefully all of the work week discussion I provided gave people a clearer view of how it all works.
They won’t care, doesn’t fit their narrative.
Well, there is that.
See already got a downvote for just stating the obvious. The tender minds cannot be disturbed.
I just consider the source JR. Haters gonna hate, and act out like a liberal. Grin.
Street Cred for you.
Congrats!
I can add some to it if you would like?
And others write letters, read poetry and go on long walks.
Well again you actually leave out context, or as Paul Harvey says, “The Rest of the Story”.
Cousins invests many dozens of hours of personal time studying film, reviewing his personal notes and libraries he’s built on every team he’s faced, working on his body, and coordinating with coaches after hours. You give him no credit for those hours that far exceed the 3 to 4 hours some athletes invest on Tuesdays.
You pretend like every great player isn’t doing that on the other 6 days of the week. If everybody is equal the other 6 days and one does work on Tuesday and another doesn’t, one is ahead of the other. I didn’t single out any player, you did by the way. There are lots of players that feel that total rest is a good thing, but the greats don’t take time off until the offseason and even then it is limited.
I’m not pretending anything. I’m stating reality.
You are stating conjecture. I’m stating facts.
You know if I had been inclined I would have answered the original ‘works on Tuesday’ differently.
I would have said – I don’t care if JJ works on Tuesday, or even Wednesday for that matter, as long as he truly “works” on Sundays.
But then again, I’m a Peter Drucker guy. We don’t evaluate ‘effort’, we evaluate ‘performance.’
There is that JR. And level of experience might just be a consideration. Cousins was a starter for 10 years in the NFL, after backing up Griffin in Washington for his first three years. He’s seen it all. McCarthy has yet to set foot on an NFL field against a real NFL defense. The gap between the two is enormous. He better be working 24/7 right now.
That is true to a point. First overall think it is a slippery slope getting into the “effort” evaluation business.
Second, played ball once with two of the best hitters I have ever seen. One was a student of hitting – lots of batting practice, studied tendencies of all the pitchers. H e could hit.
The other, hardly practiced and never looked at a scouting report of a pitcher. Chased girls and drank beer. A great hitter too.
Very different ‘effort’ levels.
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
Same with Smarts.
I have tried to drive this message home with my kids, nieces and nephews.
It has mostly worked out well, all are reasonably successful.
The hardest working ones are the most successful.
That is simply not true al all.
The team that wins the SB isn’t the team that works the hardest or tries more.
Counterpoint exhibit A:
One unicorn does not break a point. And really overall, he could have been much more but was hampered by a lot of injuries of which some could have been avoided with a better training regimen.
Not necessarily true. There is no authoritative data source that proves that adage, and plenty of commentary from athletes to counter it. Jack Nicklaus said in his book “Golf My Way” that he didn’t practice much during the season. He said if he had a bad ball striking round, he would go to the range just long enough to figure out what was wrong, then go home. He said he didn’t want to waste the good stuff on the range. Arguably the greatest golfer of all time, and he didn’t waste time hitting thousands of balls on the range.
Well golf isn’t a real sport, simply a leisure activity.
‘Golf is a good walk spoiled’.
Mark Twain
Believe both Ncklaus and Woods were both named Athlete of the Decade by Sports Illustrated.
‘Sports Illustrated’
Not sure that is a strong argument.
At the time, especially in Nicklaus’ time, it was considered the premier sports magazine in the world.
Ummm you play the game. You know better than that.
It’s tough, but I don’t know that I’d call it a sport. Tiger is an athlete, but not because he golfs. He was great at golf because he had a different mental acuity than any other human on the planet and was also an obsessed athlete. I’d say the same about NASCAR drivers. I love NASCAR, but I won’t call it a sport, but most of the best drivers are athletes.
I am fully aware of that, and the Netflix show did a great job of showing what all 3 QB’s did on the “Day off”.
Two were spending a least a few hours in the facility working out, watching film, etc.
One was not.
Looking forward to more of that on this show this season.
My point remains. Missing a few hours on one day, and replacing it with a dozen hours on other days makes the Tuesday denigration line moot.
But you once again forget that the dozen hours you refer to are also being spent by the ones spending time on Tuesdays so they are ahead.
That is conjecture Bow.
Just checked yesterdays thread to see if I missed anything late, Rob showed up to say hi, said he would show up today so, let me be the first to say “Hi Rob”!
Yooooooo
Great to see you… er read you… again Rob. Welcome back!
It’s going to hit 100+ today out here.
The Collusion story forgets one aspect of how the NFL operates.
Salary Cap.
If all players got fully guaranteed contracts, then teams wouldn’t have the cap space to sign other players. It would drastically change teams rosters and some players might get the short end of the stick while others get big dollars.
It’s not some static situation where it’s great that players all get guaranteed contracts.
Then of course, the complaints of the lowly paid guaranteed NFL players would still be how greedy the NFL is.
The pie is only so big.
Salient point DE. Very astute.
Millionaires and billionaires fighting over money. And should I feel sorry about either, I just remember ticket and beer prices.
Correct.
The cost for two people to attend a game is $500+ on the cheap end.
Plus, they are now moving games to streaming services, so you have to pay to even watch a game way too often.
So, if you were a rich person living in New York, facing the possibility of a socialist, ant-semitic, police hating Mayor, where would you move all your efforts, business, and money to?
Florida.
The city of New York will be going broke under socialist leadership. They claim they will pay for the freebies they’re promising by taxing the rich. Good luck with that. The rich will leave, the city will collapse, and the people who voted for this sham will get what they deserve.
The Commies are taking over. Been coming for quite a while.
And please let all those northern liberals stay away from Florida.
Yes! Keep the Libs out of FL.
And the NY people that vote for them don’t even know what it all means!
Sounds like how woke logic works.
I opened this tweet and read some of the comments. There are many interesting takes.
The general election will be interesting to see what form of suicide NYC residents chose.
Curtis Slewa (SP?) is the R
A muslim jew hating communist is the D
And Adams as the I.
I would guess Adams wins.
Love the JD Vance troll.
Cuomo hinting that he might still run in Nov.
That would be 3 Dims splitting the vote and giving the R a chance.
A slim chance given that NYC is a sewer of Democruds.
Heck that fat, moron Alvin Bragg won his primary for DA.
https://www.foxbusiness.com/media/former-ny-governor-cuomo-concedes-democratic-primary-doesnt-rule-out-november-run
He may be a Dem, but his head certainly leans to the right
I actually got your joke before the spoiler !!
his hair product must be heavy
Less than 25 years since 9 / 11 and they are going to elect a Muslim extremist commie to be the mayor of NYC. Unbelievable
Muslim and Commie are two words that don’t really fit together.
unless you’re trying to garner votes from both camps
“If You Don’t Stand for Something, You’ll Fall for Anything” – Attributed to Alexander Hamilton
This is. pretty simple. If you were them would you rather deal with the likes of Obama\Sanders or Trump?
Good morning
We’re doing well for the most part
My wife is back in school, she’s actually at a hospital today
My oldest son (finally) asked his gf to marry him, wedding is in February
Our youngest son continues driving OTR, he’s coming home today to celebrate my wife’s bday this weekend.
I still gouge at the same place I’ve been for the last seven years, I’d leave but I can’t find a better paying job
Vikings will make some noise this year, they should challenge for the NFC title
we won’t be able to go to a game this year, I’ll be camped out in my stadium for one
Good to hear.
