The Vikings are prepping for their season finale against the hated Packers. I hope the Vikings curb-stomp them to finish the season with a five-game winning streak. Once you’re out of the playoffs, it’s about the best you can hope for. Blech, it’s goign to be a long off-season, isn’t it?

Vikings.com reports that the Vikings QB situation is up in the air for Sunday, and that McCarthy is ‘progressing’. They said he had a fracture, correct? If he did, then I seriously doubt he’d be able to play already.
FoxSports reported that KOC ‘would love to get J.J. McCarthy one more game’.
KOC said that the Vikings dialogue with Brian Flores is in a ‘really positive place‘, per Vikings.com. That’s good, because I don’t want to see him leave.
SI.com looks at three young Viking defenders whose arrows are pointing up entering 2026. That happens a lot, just think about baseball, it’ll go away.

Happy 2026 all. Got home about 2:30 this morning after a late dinner and party at a friends house. Great evening with a lot of laughs and fun. Drinks were flowing, and most of the girls were pretty tipsy when we left including my wife. I was sober though and we saw some cops out as we drove home. There were a lot of fireworks we could hear outside, but couldn’t see any. Got home and the “girls” were upstairs under the bed. Guess they were spooked by the fireworks. Didn’t take them long to come downstairs and hang out with us though.

We beat the rush to, half a dozen people at 4:30 when we were seated and it was getting crowded when we checked out. Parking lot was filling up as well.

So here’s a little factoid for those of you who might find it interesting.
Riley Leonard has been the Colts backup QB all year, and he has been waiting to get his shot. The Colts went to Fairhope Alabama to recruit Philip Rivers and bring him out of retirement, in a hope they could still make the playoffs.
Riley Leonard is from Fairhope, AL and played for the local high school there. He lived about a mile from Rivers.
My brother, who also lives in Fairhope, and also about a mile from Rivers, just advised me of this.
Rivers could be his dad.
I hear he is pretty good at making women pregnant.

Merry New Year’s Eve Skolbros!
Been off all week. Nothing but rising early to drink coffee, watch movies and shows and bowl games.
And naps. Glorious naps. Cat naps, after-lunch naps, afternoon naps, afternoon nap after afternoon snack, mid-evening naps, mid-morning naps. I nap, therefore I’m rested.
Watched a lot of foosballs too. Mostly meaningless bowl games and ALL-22 film. I’ve rewatched the defensive masterpiece against Detroit twice – our defense is really goddamn good.
My nieces were in a horrible car accident the day after Christmas in West Omaha. One walked away from the crash with a concussion and broken nose. The other is currently in a medically induced coma – she’s not breathing on her own and has had two holes drilled in her head to relieve pressure. Neurologist believes that brain damage is minimal. She’s got a rough road ahead. They’re trying to get her stabilized enough to move her – they had to give her a blood transfusion and gave her the wrong blood type, which as I understand it, is unheard of. It’s been a mess.
My sister is asking for prayers from prayer warriors – I’m not a religious man and I get the irony in someone like me asking for prayers, but I’m asking anyway. It can’t hurt.
More bowl games today – My beloved Huskers look to take on Utah in Vegas. With NIL and the transfer portal the loyalty in college foosballs is dead. Just rooting for a jersey at this point. I’ll still watch – but it just isn’t the same. CFP looks to be entertaining. Rooting for Indiana and Ole Miss until the wheels come off.

I have never been to jail. There have been plenty of times where I could have been sent to jail.
I got in a fight in a bar with a few Croatian dudes who were mad because all the women wanted to be with me and my three American buddies. We were in Zagreb on a military business trip. Got picked up in the Hotel lobby by a bunch of good looking gals who wanted us to wine and dine them. This was in 1997. I was 42 years old, and single.
At that age I picture you as Rambo look a like, maybe with shorter hair more mlilitary like.
At 42 I was still doing 100 sit-ups and 50 pushups to start my day, and I could run a mile and a half in 8:15. I was fit, strong, and I didn’t mind knocking a guys teeth out.

I agree. More effort needs to be applied to right these wrongs, and irradicate the evil we’re seeing all over the country. That evil is a fundamental power base of the left, and activist judges protect them by dismissing cases where they have been found guilty by a jury of stealing millions of dollars. That money is then funneled back to Democrat political efforts, to keep them in office, and elect more of them.
Actually think it would be better for all us taxpayers, and much easier, to just not give them the money to begin with.
Let the states RUN their own give away programs as they wish, and let the citizens of the state PAY for such programs. \

It is… the snowbirds are out in force. Courses are crowded.
Yep, played yesterday afternoon. Was like playing up North in early November. You can tell the Northerners down here playing – they’re in short sleeve golf shirts. The Floridians, they’re in sweaters and jackets.
I’m sort of in between, but enjoyed the cooler weather.
Sounds like our weather. I don’t like it. I got all my ice fishing stuff ready the last couple days, now we need ice.
Laughing… well there is that I guess. No ice fishing in Florida. Hear the deep sea charters are pulling in some big catches in St. Pete though.
The Teacher and I have resolved to go out to a nice sit down dinner at least once a month in 2026.
We normally get take out at a fast-food/prepared food type place like Chipotle, Panda Express, Subway, or the like.
We are starting today with Cracker Barrel.
It’s always good to spend time with your girl and have a meal together. I have noticed though when we go out, so many couples spend the whole time on their cell phones. They’re typing away, and barely speak a word to each other. We actually converse and pay attention to each other. I know, we’re unusual.

We always eat together and talk, unless the Vikings are playing an evening game on SNF/MNF/TNF.
We just don’t do the whole sit down restaurant thing very often although we enjoy it when we do. We figure we will try some local places and explore the area a bit more.
We like finding places like that too. Non chain restaurants. There are several in our area, so it’s great to go there and have a unique dining experience.
An example is this Cajun Seafood Place near us. It ought to be a different experience.

The menu hasn’t changed much in over 120 years, and still in the original location and building. If you ever wander on down to Tampa, I’ll take you there. You’ll love it!

He is engineering a 4 game winning streak….Atlanta’s offense is clearly better with Cousins than with Penis….I think he is a middle of the road starter– professional, competent, but not worth 57 million a year.

His skills/abilities were declining a bit, now much would be lost was unknown after the injury. But his price was going up, it was a good time to move on.
So I will say as I always do, that wins aren’t a QB stat. That defense shut Stafford down pretty impressively. Cousins has been playing solidly behind a bad pass blocking O-line (again) and receivers that struggle to get separation. Against the Bucs a couple weeks ago, the team committed 19 penalties, with several back to back false starts by the O-line. Still the team found a way to win. What I saw last night from Cousins was competence. Good decision making, and several really good throws under pressure. He is as accurate as ever, and his brain is as fast as ever. The Falcons seem to want to play Zimmerball, and use Bijan Robinson to the utmost. They ran the ball 33 times. They got ahead early, then pounded the rock. That style of play won’t result in the kinds of production numbers Cousins has traditionally put up. It’s not due to a “decline” in his abilities. It’s because they want to run the ball, burn clock, shorten the game, and if need be, win by scoring on the last play of the game.

Kirko has had a few top 5-8 seasons as QB, and is normally top 16 or better.

Twice he tried to throw interceptions while avoiding being sacked. Both time the rams did him a favor by dropping the ball. Either one of those happen and the Rams win.
Kirko played well for Kirko. Never going anywhere in the playoffs. As defenses get better, he gets pressured and destroyed.
Throwing the ball away to avoid a sack isn’t fizzling… it’s excellent QB play. When the O-line fails to block a rusher, and he has a free run at you, getting rid of the ball quickly is a real talent. Also, while the announcers claimed the balls were almost intercepted, they weren’t really. Remember throwing the ball away to save a sack, only works out if you can do it without getting called for intentional grounding. Therefore you have to throw it near a receiver, and of course the defenders are also near the receiver. Cousins got the job done perfectly.
The QB is the most important position on the team. We all know that.
Which is why teams draft QBs in the first round.
Which is usually why the QB is the highest paid player on the team.
Kirko deserves the win.

No argument that the QB is the hardest position to play, and affects the offensive side of the ball a lot, especially if you can’t run the ball. Still QB wins is a totally bogus metric, created and promoted by the media. It basically says, that the other 52 guys on the team don’t count at all, which is ludicrous. Insane really. Yeah… that one guy is the only reason a team win games… you know all those other guys? Yeah they don’t do anything at all. Dumbest take in the sporting world.

The QB lost the game for the Lions
Brosmer sucked less and gets the win.
And ‘MVP Candidate’ Stafford contributed 3 last night. Certainly not what his team needed.
That’s a prime example of why I’m not a “QB wins” person. Brosmer personally did about as close to nothing as possible and still “won”. But about any other game (99% of the time), that is a loss.
And sometimes the QB actively contributes to the loss, ie Goff with his 5 turnovers?
Some good, a lot bad. Does that equal a ‘QB Loss’??
I think it varies, but yes. I think you have to look at the game on a case-by-case basis to determine if the QB is good or not.
I think I need to get me one of these.

If the Bucs beat the Panthers this coming Saturday, the NFC South Division winner will be a team with a losing record, 8-9. If the Falcons also beat the Saints on Sunday, the NFC South will have three teams with an 8-9 record, but then the Panthers will win the Division. Crazy.
