Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts

Well, the news on O’Neill is better than it could have been, but the star RT will still be out at least a few weeks, which the Vikings cannot afford right now. 60% of the starting offensive line is injured, that’s almost half, and that’s a lot. Let’s hope KAM is on the phone getting some trades cooked up, because when it’s broke, you fix it.

- Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.
- Twitter sized version: Be cool to one another.
It’s always been this way… the liberals want you to forget though.
Love this…
JR, you’re gonna laugh. I just saw that Nelly Korda follows me on Twitter.
Not sure why. Can’t be real.
What is a ‘Nelly Korda’??
Well she was the #1 ranked women’s pro golfer in the world last year, but she’s currently #2.
Women’s Pro Golf is a thing?
I guess there could be since there is such a thing as Profession Pillow Fighting.
That is ridiculous…
We agree on that.
I think he’s the R&B artist who weart the band-aid on his face.
Bettors think the rookie is better than Flacco…
No real surprises…
Toss in some TEs, top with Ham, and maybe you have a recipe for success?
Man, the Bengals are a mess. They have a star QB on a 5 year $275M contract on IR, and Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins who will earn a combined $276 million on their 4 year contracts, with no one to throw them the ball. Their O-line is shit too BTW so the backup QB is getting eradicated every game.
There is a story going around that today 100,000 federal workers resigned their positions, and this is the largest resignation in history.
Here’s the reality they aren’t telling you.
This is the deferred resignation program initiated in January 2025 by the Trump administration, offering eight months of paid leave, with September 30, 2025, marking the fiscal year-end separation date.
These folks haven’t been at work for eight months.
Been my experience with this, the good ones leave and the losers stay. UGH!
True, but a lot of this was from Federal organizations Trump closed outright, and most of them were interns if you recall.
It’s about effing time to hold generals to the same standards.
I’m still getting texts from my old colleagues who are bitching about this speech. They all know I’m conservative and I resigned by position under Biden. I told them to get in line, or get out, like I did. Live up to your principles.
I believe in the idea – if you’re going to be a soldier, look like one, Hated slob looking officers (and NCO’s)
But wonder about the PT thing, I doubt Ike, smoking 4 packs of luckies a day, could have passed a PT test. MacArthur either. Now, both of these guys looked like soldiers so I’m OK.
Just can see where the PT part may be tough.
Thoughts?
I never ran the mile and half in more than 8 minutes and 45 seconds, and could do 50 pushups, 50 situps and 20 pull-ups till they day I got out at age 52.
I could do all that at 65, but I ain’t no Eisenhauer, or MacArthur. Patton and Nimitz couldn’t pass either.
I am of the mind if they look like soldiers, act like soldiers , lead troops like soldiers, brilliant military minds, and aren’t WOKE. I’m OK.
If they’re in combat arms in the field, and one and two stars, they need to be in shape though.
Marines are in great shape. Navy guys, I have no idea.
I’ll withhold comments on the Navy folks… grin.
The Generals in WWII were not fat, and they were sharp. I know that some of the fitness req’s are “age appropriate”. I mean climbing hills in battle rattle is for Capt’s and at most Majors.
I was still in the field at times into my mid 40’s though.

Hey Chicago whadda ya say?
Cubs are gonna Win today…
It is tough to be a Cub fan. They broke my heart in 69 when they blew it.
It bothered Santo till the day he died.
That team had some great players that are really under appreciated – Billy Williams, Ernie Banks and Ferguson Jenkins. And there were a host of other really good players like Santo. Always remember what a great year Jim Hickman had.
Ahh, what a shame, talking of things that might have been.
Kissinger at SS Becker at 2nd.
OK… interesting move…
Fascinating… this is good sports journalism… for once.
I want a Hegseth/Noem ticket for 2028!!!
I hope that happens. She will for sure cave that side of the ticket so fast. Hegseth on the other hand can apparently get the right supporting seeing the whites of children’s eyes being cradled by their mothers and surrounded by their unarmed elders then filling them all full of bullets and making up excuses as to why that’s OK all the while pretending to be pro life.
You lay it on thick, but as pointed out below Edge, this event has lived on through 34 administrations (including Obama and Biden), none of whom saw fit to revoke any of the medals awarded. NOW you condemn this administration for not doing it? Yeah right.
Save your BS outrage.
We’re talking about the military below and the new leadership standards. Reminded me of a true story that’s kind of funny too.
The Marines kind of think of themselves as the macho group and are Marines for life and all of that.
In the mid eighties higher ups in the Navy Dept thought the Marines were getting a little soft and needed some big changes in leadership. So, they named Al Gray as their next Commandant. He was considered a Marines Marine.
So Gray is in his Pentagon office a week or so after coming into office, He’s looking out. the window and notes all the Pentagon officers doing their midday jogs/runs along the river. You can tell the Marines by their gold and red shirts.
Gray watches and calls in his Deputy. He asks his Deputy what is the standard footwear for Marines going into combat. Deputy responded standard combat boots. Gray then asked – “then why are all my Marines out running in running shoes?”
Next day, all Marines were running in their boots.
Gray was tough. When he was a one star his boss told him he wouldn’t get a second star if he didn’t get married. Gray responded “If the Marine Corp wanted me to have a wife, they would have issued me one.”
I ran in boots at the beginning of my tour of duty. It was not fun. Of course I also did 20 mile road marches in boots, (plus LBE and 30 lb ruck) that was not fun either.
I was impressed by the Cdr Gen at Ft Hood. He could be seen during morning PT running around the base while studying 3×5 cards. Talk about multitasking as he was also monitoring the base/troops/training while studying and getting in his own PT.
Joint Base MeGuire in Jersey under lockdown due to an active shooter.
I’m hearing the lockdown is ended now.
Wonder if is similar to one in Georgia a few months ago.
Not much news came out about that one after it ended.
Isn’t that special…
Beautiful countryside, when it’s not raining.
Hmmmm… right now it looks like we will be watching Myles Garrett line up against Justin Skule first thing in the morning Sunday. That might be a problem.
Skule + whatever TE is on his side.
Hopefully not Hock after watching him whiff last Sunday.
And then Ham ready to slow down Garrett once he gets past the RT and TE.
Good idea – have all three on him.
Whoever is playing QB by the mid 2nd quarter…
Zactly
NLNVF what do you think of this guy?
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15146219/Pete-Hegseth-meets-generals-admirals-world-sending-one-message.html
No doubt the woke/Dim/DEI crowd will have issues with his speech.
How dare he call ‘Fat Generals’ fat, so insensitive, think of their feelings.
Honestly, I didn’t think he was a good choice as SECDEF, because I have worked inside the beltway at the highest levels of the DoD (now DoW) and I know the brutality of the political world that exists in the Department. I know how deep the woke culture is, and how infested the military is with liberal Generals and Admirals fully invested in the gender bending ideology of the left. I didn’t think Hegseth would have enough horsepower, connections, or experience to do the job.
Thank God I was wrong. Hegseth has stood against the many hundreds of high level liberals fighting him tooth and nail, and actually effected real change. He is a strong, competent, and fierce leader. Definitely the right guy for the job, hands down. Trans has no business in the business of killing people. A warrior ethos has to be reinforced every second of every minute of every every hour of every day. Woke ideology must be eradicated from our rolls. He is doing all the right things.
I supported Hegseth because you can’t hire a Swamp Monster to clean up the Swamp.
I expect some ‘Fat Generals/Admirals and DEI hires to retire early. It is a wonderful thing.
My phone is blowing up right now. Lots of the “Old Guard” are calling for his head. How dare he challenge the status quo? My response? He’s the boss. Get in line, or get out. Some folks not taking that response well.
And he is doing it with the support of ‘His Boss’ who was on site to make clear that they are in total agreement.
The ‘Old Guard’ needs to move aside for the ‘Young Turks’.
I wondered about bringing in all the flags as opposed to maybe just the four stars. But really his call on how deep he saw the problem.
I just don’t understand why this was done so publicly.
You and I have been around for a long time JR. We have never seen a CINC like Trump. He is a great leader, and calling in all the top brass and addressing them together, face to face, is something no other President has ever done. The Joint Chiefs? Yes. All the stars? No. He went well beyond the norm here, and honestly, I’m not surprised. He’s the CINC, and he’s taking the bull by the horns. Totally in character for Trump.
None of those Top Brass will be able to say ‘I didn’t understand’ or ‘I thought that they meant something else’ or ‘I never got the e-mail’.
That last one was used by a Warden at my prison despite records showing when she got it and when she opened it. No excuses this way.
Yep
Those guys should be ashamed. We’ve got subs coming up under fishing boats, ships running together, Irag’s taking our ships, airplanes sitting around for lack of parts (tanks too), and every major epuipment purchase is 300% over cost and at least five years late.
The old guard is deeply entrenched. The still think they can get past Trump and Hegseth.
And that’s why we need another Republican President to follow Trump. This will take time.
Can’t hire a swamp monster to clean out a swamp… so you didn’t vote for Trump? haha. But for real. Hegseth, fuck that guy for wanting to exalt folks for the massacre of mostly unarmed men, women and children. Disrupt the status quo, call out lazy folks at the top and such… cool. But you don’t get medals for slaughtering those folks.
Don’t understand – Slaughtering what folks?
Wounded Knee.
The Wounded Knee Massacre occurred on December 29, 1890, near Wounded Knee Creek in South Dakota. It involved the killing of Lakota Sioux by the U.S. 7th Cavalry Regiment.
Estimated Death Toll:
Yeah, let’s celebrate and honor this bullshit.
Still confused. What does that have to do with SoCa’s comment about ‘cleaning out the swamp?’
It’s about Hegseth in general. Gets it twisted that the ONLY reason people can not like him is some woke agenda. Which isn’t the case. He supports the slaughtering of unarmed men, women, and children. The part of Pro-life I thought would have issue with this.
He supports slaughtering innocent people? Where did that come from?
It is a ‘Lifer Level’ unhinged rant.
Must, cause comment makes little sense.
Yeah, he started with Trump and then went after Hegseth about something that happened over a hundred years ago.
Exactly. Still can’t follow it.
Evidently Hegseth followed a recommendation by a panel convened by FJB not to revoke MoHs for Wounded Knee soldiers.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/27/us/hegseth-wounded-knee.html
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the Medals of Honor awarded to soldiers for their actions at the Wounded Knee Massacre will be kept, stating they “deserved those medals” and their place in history is “no longer up for debate”. This decision was met with strong criticism from Native American groups and lawmakers who viewed the Wounded Knee incident as a massacre and believe the medals should be revoked.
Hegseth’s Statement
In a video posted on social media, Hegseth declared that the 19 soldiers would retain their Medals of Honor, emphasizing that the action is final and intended to make clear they were deserving of the recognition.
So you have a beef about something that happened 135 years ago? Sorry Edge, this is an over the top, emotional reaction that I can’t endorse.
History happens. In the past, people were decorated for doing their duty. That duty in those days, was fighting indians. Right, wrong, good or bad, that’s what the world was doing. 135 years later, the world has changed dramatically, and now, you want to be the virtuous soul, passing judgement and applying todays norms to actions of the past. Sorry, you or I don’t get to do that. Feel bad about it, condemn it, be angry about it, or whatever. Don’t act like the troops who actually fought and died for the country in those days were horrible people though. You state this was simply a slaughter of women, children, and the elderly, but you also point out 25 soldiers were killed, and 39 were wounded, so it wasn’t a bunch of unarmed innocents completely. The comment that most of the soldiers injured and killed were “likely” due to friendly fire is unfair. Lots of folks with an axe to grind against the U.S. military have used this event to condemn the entire profession. Good for them, and you might note this is the right we have actually died to protect.
Your feelings and self righteous indignation are duly noted.
It’s bull shit and you know it better – far more than most. You may, unlikely though, get a Bronz Star for something but you will never receive the Medal of Honor without doing something almost heroic beyond words.
I’ve seen guys that jumped on a grenade, got killed and save the lives of several others, and seen the recommendation be down graded to a Silver Star.
Yes, the Congressional Medal of Honor is reserved for the highest level of valor, and as you said, some very deserving nominations have been downgraded. They don’t hand them out like candy.
Well the Trump thing was just a jab at not being able to have a swamp monster drain the swamp which Trump is a YUGE swamp monster.
How have you all missed this?
Haven’t gotten that far in my history. Still trying to teach my kids that George Washington was a good President and Thomas Jefferson was good and wrote the Dec of Independence, despite them both being “bad slave owners.”
He’s making damn sure that all those soldiers keep their Medals of Honor. Such honor in killing unarmed women, children and elderly.
My computer won’t let me read SoCa’s article, but it’s about military people killing innocents? Right?
Believe when we fire bombed Dresden in WWll we fire bombed the entire city and killed 25,000 civilians. Also believe several flyers received Distinguished Flying Crosses and several other types of metals for valor.
Also believe when we bombed Japan at end of war we killed several hundred thousand women and children.
Lastly, I worked at the Pentagon while in service in the division that awarded medals. And anyone who received a Medal of Honor HAD to do something very, very heroic. Most requests, like 99% were downgraded.
Yeah, ‘unarmed women and children’ who managed to kill 25 soldiers and wound 39.
Woke rewrite of history?
History – indeed? You know my kids could tell me the first person kill in the Revolutionary War was a black man – believe it was Crytus Atiks?
BUT, they didn’t know Thomas Jefferson wrote the Dec of Independence. Can you imagine having your sense or priorities so screwed up?
Wounded Knee is not that. This is not a bombing from the air. Wounded Knee was soldiers showing up to a camp that was CLEARLY mostly unarmed elderly men, women and children and they saw that with their own eyes, on horse back or foot and slaughtered them anyway. You’re disgusting if you support that. Not sure how else to say it TBH. Most military casualties are attributed to friendly fire too, that’s how little armed they were compared to the natives. Most the US soldier wounded were from friendly fire.
Just to be clear, Loyd Austin (of the Biden Administration) had reviewed the Mohs and could have revoked them before he left office, but chose not to.
All defense department leaders going back to 1900 could have revoked the medals but did not. But you reserve your hatred for Hegseth……interesting.
I know this for an absolute fact – I worked there and the standards haven’t changed in 150 years. ANY soldier that received the Medal of Honor HAD to do an extremely extraordinary act of valor – and killing an innocent women or child would NEVER qualify.
I know that FOR a fact.
Oh, and I’m disgusting – OK.
History is history and sometimes gets spun a lot of ways.
But I guarantee you this, the requirements for receipt of the Medal of Honor are and have always been of the very highest standards.
Fatties and dudes in dresses aren’t allowed anymore, but what about dudes in diapers?
Diapers I get but Dirty Diapers is beyond the pale.
No Kink Shaming of course.
I didn’t watch the video, because just the thought of this is so disgusting. Sr NCO’s are the heart and soul of the military. Every young officer will regale you with tales of their first Sr NCO who coached them, protected them, instructed them, and carried them as they began their careers.
The acronym OIC stands for ‘Officer In Charge’, but for new LTs it actually mean ‘Oh I See’.
Oh yeah… heard that one SoCal. Accurate too.
This always seemed like a no brainer to me. It makes me think of Patton who supposedly lived like his troops, so he knew exactly what he could expect of them.
I also don’t understand how NFL athletes can listen to fat tubs of lard of coaches when they are physical machines. Paycheck, I suppose…
Well I mean, this one isn’t hard. Andy Reid is a great example. Dude is a great coach and also a great tub of Crisco.
When I was in basic training one of the platoons I was not in had a fat Drill Sargent. My Drill Sargent was probably the fittest person I had ever met in real life. At 40, he was able to run the 2 miles in just over 8 minutes.
Anyway, we were on a 25 mile road march, with fully loaded ruck sacks and our M16s. The fat drill Sargent was leading the entire march. We were moving at a snails pace. I started passing people, since I was in the back to start the march (3rd Platoon). I wanted to see why we were moving so slow, I get even with my Drill Sargent, and he says if you pass me you will be doing push ups. I stopped got out of line and started doing pushups until the tail end caught up to me again. I got up and proceeded to pass everyone again. Get up next to my Drill Sargent again, he just said do not pass me, so I slowed down.
After the march I was talking to my Drill Sargent and asked him why he wouldn’t let me pass him. He went on a tirade about how the fat Drill Sargent shouldn’t have been leading the march, and if he couldn’t lead a march he should have stayed home that day.
If we add Ham back to the active roster, who drops off?
Our 3rd or 4th TE…You don’t need 4 TEs and a FB.
More Pass Pro be good.
My son asked Marcus Sherels who his favorite teammate was during his career in Minnesota. Sherels didn’t have to think very long, he said “CJ Ham”.
Several little things that changed the course of the game on Sunday…. Ivan Pace not catching the blocked FG cleanly to run it back, Jefferson falling down on that catch, etc.
Of course there are the mental mistakes (which I don’t understand how they happen) of Skule and Hockenson both whiffing or not even blocking a single person on a sack, and other things like that.
Then there is the nefarious fake holding call to pull back the 50yd kickoff return by Price, along with the TWO personal foul calls where one guy flopped so hard it was reminiscent of a soccer match (I guess they were in Europe) and the other one where a Viking was getting pulled around by his facemask and slapped the offender as a result, where there should have been at least offsetting penalties (or a penalty on PIT before that happened).
Crappy play, some bad luck perhaps, along with the normal rigging of the NFL games makes gameplay harder and harder to watch.
Also thought it was kind of a. big play where Pace chased TE to flat leaving and easy throwing lane for Rogers to Metcalf for an 80 yard TD.
Yeah, Rodgers did nothing to deserve at least about 50 yards of that along with the TD, but people still fawn over how great he is. Look at his stat line without that play (which was about 90% his receiver and not him).
Good points. I would also throw Addison getting run down by a LB when he had a 10-yard advantage……..
To be fair to Addison, there was a sign on the sideline advertising 2 for 1 Guiness specials for fans with a game ticket at a local pub, he paused to write down the address.
That’s funny MT… made me laugh.
The rule of thumb for all of sportsdom is never never retaliate to a cheap shot, as it is always the retaliation that gets seen. Much better to flop like a one year old taking their first steps.
I get that, it’s always the retaliation that gets caught. But the ref was literally trying to get the person pulling the Vikings’ face mask to let go – that should have been flagged immediately (it was after-the-play activities).
But that makes it even dumber. Whether you get hit first or not, if the ref is standing right there it’s pretty lame to push the guy down
It’s too bad the NFL doesn’t have some sort of review process where they can check the footage and see exactly what occurred, who did what, etc..
A shame, really.
Probably not allowed yet, but after the Vikings lose a game because of it, they will change it for the next year.
Yeah… what a shame…
Would be easy to do, but the NFL doesn’t care about accuracy, they care about rigging games.
I’m not talking about the flop here, I’m talking the other incident. He slapped the other guy’s facemask while his was getting pulled and he wouldn’t let go. They showed a close up replay of it. Stupid BS. You get a penalty for facemask during play, but you can just hang on to a guy’s and pull it around without penalty.
OK, got it.
Yeah… it’s like that.
But…but KOC made penalties a ‘point of emphasis.
Maybe he made the emphasis getting them instead of avoiding them?
Amen
I don’t know if those numbers are right. I think the Jets had at least 18 pre-snap penalties last night alone.
Laughing… potentially…
It’s like Oprah out here giving out injuries… “You get an injury, you get an injury…”
“I’m just glad we didn’t play starters in preseason or we would have no one left to play” – KOC
Van Ginkel out?
I’m mixed about the McCarthy rehab. You would think rehabbing at the world class Twin Cities facility, not dealing with the rigors of overseas travel, etc plus with a new baby at home all in all it would have been better for him to stay in MSP. Perhaps it’s more about optics than common sense.
I agree, especially with the new baby part.
Or they want him there in case they deem him healthy or wanted the insurance in case Wentz got hurt.
“Vikings cannot afford right now. 60% of the starting offensive line is injured, that’s almost half, “
Made me chuckle this morning, thanks.
Same… laughed when I read it.
In my own personal experience, dislocating a knee comes at the expense of the ACL at a minimum, potentially the PCL. I didn’t get the Phins/Jets game – anyone know which direction it was dislocated? Medial, lateral, posterior?
hey said he tore his ACL
It was a medial dislocation.
Fun side note, our ambulance service just started an EMT class and they covered this terminology last week. It was a good refresher for us current EMTs. We tend to use more and more layman’s terms over the course of time. I should do a better job of keeping up with my medical lingo when calling in reports to the ER.
I saw a stat, don’t know if it is true because that would require research. Anyway, the stat is thus:
Offensive drives that endure a sack only score a touchdown 7 percent of the time.
If that is true, Vikings better clean that up or we are basically bringing FGs to a TD fight. So I expect a lot of FGs against the Browns if we move the ball.
This is interesting and reasonable. But wonder if you have a high risk high reward offense you’ll have more sacks but also hit more big plays, as opposed to a dink and dunk offense.
It would be interesting to see it broken down by teams.
Like I imagine a Josh Allen sack is not equal in value to a Wentz sack in terms of possible TDs at the end of the drive.
SKOLOHOLICS PICK ‘EM AND SURVIVAL LEAGUES UPDATE
There was no update last week. Harvest is beating me up like I’m a Vikings QB. All I want to do is take a nap. Last night I dreamed an entire 1990s style erotic thriller starring Shadoe Stevens. I think it was the result of stuffing too much beef in my gullet too late, the heat and the venom of about 1,000 noseeum bites flowing through my veins.
Anyway, Kirko Chainz!, Let’s Fish and Delaware Vikings were the top three scores this week. I was doing good until Indy and the Raiders decided to go full Vikings on me. What a doucheburger Colts player that fumbled out of the endzone…
Overall, Bowbunch and Little Fish’in have some ground to make up. Then we have a cluster of myself, Freezy, DE and JacksonVike looking up at a crowded top group. We are waiting until we smell blood and then will start picking off the weaker members of the leaders one by one by one.
From the top down, the crowded group is ManlyPurple, Let’s Fish, Lasallegrouse, Kirko Chainz!, Surly, NoDak and PA. I want to say nice things about their skills, but you now what, I’m not Kevin O’Connell and his feel good vibes. I want to destroy my opponents and hear the lamentations of their women.
Traitor Picks this week belong to myself, DE and Kirko. We all picked the Steelers over the Vikings because, honestly, why wouldn’t we? Vikings were sounding way too cocky about their first class flights and sterling European record. Meanwhile, Rodgers went over in coach, was jet-lagged and some reports say, hungover, so you know he was going to be drinking Purple Crush to recover.
We all got Bills and Lions right. Otherwise, all of us got burned numerous times. The Steelers picks also count as Iconoclast Picks. As do DE, ManlyPurple and Bowbunch taking the Jaguars over the 49ers. That probably qualifies as a Genius Picks, as well.
We all got Washington and the Chargers wrong. What the hell, Herbert? I thought we had something special, and you go and do something like this…
Meanwhile, we have our first victims in Survival League. Lassalegrouse, Kirko Chainz and Blue Plate Special have all gotten their two strikes.
To our fallen brethren, WE SALUTE YOU!
Myself, Bow, Little Fishin, and NoDak all have one strike. Stupid Falcons burned me. I figured since they beat the Vikings, they could probably win against the lowly Panthers. Nope, they got shutout 30-0. Truly, in a league where 42 percent of the teams make the playoffs, there are really only about five teams that actually count as legitimately good. The rest are just selling tickets.
Now me and Herbert are going to our counseling session. I think we will be okay. We just need to talk about expectations…
Your boy burned me this week in the survivor league. He should shave his head in shame.
