Football season sure makes my tv choices easier. Football to watch on TV every Thursday, Sunday and Monday. Sports shows talking about football every day if I am not sure what to watch. We should get injury reports later today. I am hoping Cashman and Darrisaw are both back soon, and Smith needs to get back as well. The way too early reactions to one win/loss depending on how your favorite team did are a bit wild. The NFL has what it wanted, enough parity that even fans of shitty teams have hope for a few weeks. I have seen everything from the Vikings are going to dominate and make the Super Bowl this season, to having them win 8 games would be lucky. This, after 1 win. I just know the team is very fun to watch, and I have hope that they can improve as the season progresses. JJ will make some decisions like the pick 6 that make us cringe, then follow it up with some much better play. I , for one, am enjoying the ride. Tomorrow night we get Thursday Night Football, and for that day, I am a huge Commanders/Redskins fan.

It’s a tough time, but there’s hope. Lots and lots of young Americans are extremely upset by Kirk’s killing. That’s encouraging.
I agree… it’s terrible that a bright young man, who took on all comers with class, intellect, and civility, was silenced forever. If that doesn’t affect everyone, and drive more focus on the vitriolic nature of the left, I fear nothing will.
I had a wonderful day. It was my 75th birthday and did some neat stuff. Was going to mention it today but things got derailed. Will tell you tomorrow (if interested).
But I am heavy hearted tonight. Watched that killing of that young lady in NC and this Kirk assination, it’s really a downer. I have three kids, 29, 31, and 33 and keep thinking it could happen to any of them.
Believe I once read someone said there is good and evil in the world and good needs to be very very good to counter evil.

I was downtown in Tampa with my wife today, when I got a text from a very good friend telling me Charlie Kirk had been shot. It shocked the hell out of me. Now, he has passed. I am angry beyond words. I want the perpetrator caught. That said, I can tell you this was not an amateur that executed Charlie. This was planned carefully, it was executed with precision, and I think that first guy that ran around saying he shot Charlie, and attracted the attention of law enforcement, could be complicit.
This is the RFK shooting of this generation.
Political assassination. Kirk had a open forum and let people talk. If we accept this then this country is fucked.
The country has been fucked for 20 years, with corruption so deep, that it’s almost unfathomable. This administration is uncovering hundreds of instances of deep state efforts and that is stirring the vitriolic response from the left.
Killing Kirk, by shooting him in the throat, is symbolic to me.

I am devastated at the news about Charlie Kirk, to the point I can’t have a coherent discussion about it. My daughter called me when she heard, she’s really sad too. Of course, liberal sister had no idea who he was. God help us.

Watched this last night. Pat McAfee on JJ (QB) and the Monday Night Football game.
21 min but lots of good takes, especially for Viking fans.

Kind of confirms what I thought as I was watching the game: JJM didn’t do as bad as most people thought in the first three quarters.
Seems like one thing would go wrong on each play with different players that would ruin plays. Then they didn’t and things started clicking.
This is also the first game play action 90% of the starters have together, including the line, this will take time to Gel and get timing down. Which is why having an “easier” starting schedule is very important. I expect offense to improve on a week by week basis. Iv been binging replays and break downs of this game since Monday night after the game and I watched this video yesterday
I saw a video the other day of all the plays Caleb Williams missed. It was pretty damning. Probably good our first two games are against young QBs. That gives us a lot bigger margin for error.

Watched that yesterday. I agree that this was very encouraging. All the things people like me miss while watching the game live are pointed out. Not that JJ was playing well early on, but he shows how and why certain plays failed.
The pick 6 I still put squarely on JJ, as I think that was a poor throw.
However, how the guy responded to that is exactly what has been missing for a very long time.
Yeah it was still telegraphed, the corner did cover a LOT of distance to get there to pick it though.
I said it during the game, but it seemed like JJ was doing the right thing just a tick too slow at the beginning which is understandable. I was also impressed that he was making calls and audible at the line on a loud hostile environment. Sure didn’t seem like he was getting his hand feels like some here thought he would need.

Absolutely, the watch party I was with all said the same thing, everything seemed a bit slow/hesitant to pull the trigger on some things. A half to one second earlier on some things and a lot of those misses could hit.
That play was trouble from the huddle break, full of confusion and rushing. Hopefully, JJ learned something from that. Heck, even taking the delay of game would have been a preferable outcome.
Delay of game or burn a timeout. either would have been better. I agree, everything looked rushed.
Granted, we all would have been angry at the Vikes for looking bad again on another drive, but…sometimes a situation is just crap, and you need to bail.
The pick 6 was on him – and I think he’ll see on the replay it was blocked up enough that he could’ve taken the shot to Speedy to the pylon. There was pressure for sure, but that throw looked like it was there. I’ll watch All 22 tonight to confirm.
Reminded me of Ponder…and I kind of like Ponder. He had heart. Just was not at a level necessary for NFL success.

Skoloholics Pick ‘Em and Survival League Update #1
It was an exciting opening week, as exciting as checking the pocket of pants you haven’t worn for awhile and finding a forgotten donut.
The Pick ‘Em League is currently broken up into three main clumps. Bowbunch and Little Fish’in are in the sub-100 points club. The first week was not kind to them. They both went 8-8. Truly, Pick ‘Em League is a harsh mistress who has no mercy on missed picks. Fortunately, it is early yet, and the first few weeks are always a crap shoot. Teams still haven’t figured out if they are good or bad. They are all still riding high on off-season pontifications.
The next clump is populated by JacksonVike, Kirko Chainz!, Delaware Viking, Freezeisthebest and Surly Viking. They are in the 100-point club and can see the leaders above them. Hope still beats in their breasts. I envy them. I haven’t felt hope since 2014. That was a crazy month!
Freezy just needs to spend a little less time at his lake houses and more time on pick research. I can see why JacksonVike is distracted. The Jackson Library is about to have its used book sale, so it is a heady time in that town right now. As for Kirko Chainz!, the name explains it all. And DE is still trying to figure out how Delaware fits into the Union. Seriously, does anyone know anything about Delaware? Has anyone even ever been there? I’m not sure it is a real place.
The upper echelon is PA Viking Fan, Lasallegrouse, NoDakRube, Manly Purple, Let’s Fish and Me. Only 10 points separate us. As commissioner of the league, I purposefully try not be in first place for the first few weeks so no one can accuse me of cheating. I will start trying harder in the near future. The rest of that clump should actually try less harder. It’s the neighborly thing to do. Remember, participation trophies are more important than podium trophies.
Everyone got the Bengals, Eagles, Washington and Denver picks right. We had several Iconoclast Picks: JacksonVike was the only one who took the Falcons; Bowbunch was the only one who took Carolina and Surly was the only one who took New Orleans.
When it comes to Genius Picks, Let’s Fish is the only one who got Green Bay over the Lions. He should probably be more ashamed than proud, though…
Myself, Kirko and DE were the Traitors of the Week. We are the only ones who picked the Bears over the Vikings. But, come on…we were almost right!
As for Survival League, I’ve got good news for Blue Plate Special, who is the only one who picked a loser. He picked the Ravens to beat the Bills. But, come on…he was almost right!
The good news is everyone gets two strikes in Survival League this year. I had equal feedback on that, so I became the tiebreaker and decided to try a “two-strike” format this season. I am curious to see how it works because the last two years, everyone was done in Survival League by like week four. We are all that bad and need the extra strike, it appears…

Still excited over what JJM did. It’s what we’ve been talking about since we drafted him: We need a QB with that clutch gene. Game 1 showed us that might be him.
There will be rough games for sure and ups and downs, but it’ll be a fun ride if we know he could bring us back and be clutch late.
Plus he’s a very easy human being to root for.

This is why context is needed in each game when it comes to these debates. Not QBR, yards, PFF yadda yadda. Those are all products of intangibles coming together with talent. If you are missing one of those, the stats dont really matter because the odds say you aren’t going to be able to do enough to over come the average game in the NFL. Let alone play off caliber teams and poor officiating.
Yep. This is what people that have played with JJ have been saying forever. The leadership and intangibles are off the charts.
How do you measure heart? How do you measure something that really cannot be measured? Whatever IT is, JJ has IT in spades.
