I think this is exactly it. There’s also Vikings fans that still think the VIkings will be sorry letting Darnold go. They are gonna be wrong. A lot of this fanbase loses the forest through the trees and hangs too much value one ONE season. With any player.

I will admit that that was the “norm” for Kirk, he usually was average to above average for most games but against good defenses or high pressure moments…this or something on the spectrum of this when you NEED a completion or need to move the ball, is what happened.
He must have been confused about which team was wearing which uniform.

I remember him and his music growing up.
Enjoyed it along with many greats of the time, Sly, Beach Boys, Santana, War, Doobie Brothers, so much great music.
Pundits are saying Oakmont is set to be the U.S. Open’s “toughest of tests”. I would love to see a winning score of 5 over par or worse. Let’s see who can hang in there, and survive the test with as much grit as game. These guys all drive the ball over 300 yards as a norm now. They play on pristine, manicured courses, with greens as smooth as a pool table. Let’s make them sweat over every single shot!
The players wouldn’t like this.
They have complained in the past about “tough conditions”.
They should try playing on some of the cow patches we play on DE.
I once played at the Oklahoma University golf course the Monday after the National Championship rounds were played there. It was amazing. The greens were fast, and challenging, but I putted them lights out, because they rolled so perfectly true. They were truly as smooth as a pool table. The fairways were perfect. The rough was very uniform. It was in a word, heaven on earth.
I have been spoiled ever since… knowing the dramatic difference in the course conditions we play on, and what they are blessed with every single weekend.
There was a time when the USGA considered “par” to be a fair winning score for a US Open. The course was to test every aspect of a golfer’s game including mental.
The last time Oakmont hosted a U.S. Open, the winning score was 5 over par.
The 2007 championship only saw two red figures on the leaderboard after the first round – and they never appeared again after that. The second round had especially tough conditions, with green speeds upwards of 14 1/2 to 15 on the Stimpmeter and devilish pin positions.
“I don’t know what the average score was, but I think I shot under par,” Tiger said after a 4-over 74. He was correct, as the average score that Friday was 76.9.
Oakmont is still fuming over Miller’s final round of 63 to win the 73 Open. They vowed to never let a round like that happen again.

Getting a little stronger every day. I’m eating more salads now than I have ever eaten in my life though. Wife is saying no to fried, yes to grilled, etc. She has put her foot down on my diet. Grin.

Super excited for cheering for JJ this year. Just nice to have a young QB who seems like a great guy. Hopefully the talent is proven this year and success comes with it.
Lots of talent on both sides of the ball. Hopefully the pass rush up the middle turns our defense into elite, and hopefully the pass blocking up the middle for our offense turns our OL into elite. Haven’t had a top-5 OL since…..when? The years with Hutch, etc.?
Honestly, if we don’t win the Division and go deep in the playoffs, I think it’s a fail this year. This is the fourth year in KOC’s offense, and the talent is there for us to be top five. McCarthy should be able to handle his role. He basically just doesn’t have to cock it up at this point. The other ten guys are all experienced, knowledgeable, and talented.
The defense showed some real teeth last year, and is improved with new personnel this year. They should be top five too. With a top five offense and defense, we should be very, very good this year.
Agreed all around. High hopes for the team, and I want JJ to just be careful with the ball.
(Side note: I had to catch up from missing things the last couple of days. Glad you’re feeling a bit better, NLNVF!)

In 22 with that talent pool he alone predicted we would win 12-13 games and the division.
Last year he said even with Darnold we would again win about the same.
He missed 23 but so did everyone else cause of the Cousin injury.
So it bothers me that he says that given his record of picking favorable for the Vikiings.
Wonder what is now driving his thinking.
Personally I think he flies in the face of the current perspectives by his peers. Lots of folks see the Vikings as a strong contender now, so let’s take the opposite view. He’s a contrarian.
Point was he is usually a strong supporter of the Vikings and loves KOC. He usually explains his thinking and would wonder (greatly) how he could say we were fourth in the division talent wise. The Bears and Packers aren’t even close and at minimum we are even with the Lions.
I get that JR. I just think he mostly likes to be contrarian though as I said, and supporting the Vikings Nationally has always been weak sauce. Thus his overt support has been contrarian. Now that the National perception of the Vikings is swinging the other way, he suddenly isn’t onboard?
Just my opinion, of course.

I have tempered expectations. If they make the playoffs, but still finish second in the division I would not call that a fail.
However, if they do not win a playoff game this year, then I am on board with calling the season a failure.
Unless they sweep the FTP again. Any season where they sweep the cheeseheads, it is a good season.
KOC needs to start winning playoff games ASAP.

No news is good news.
As long as no one tears a meniscus, or ruptures an Achilles or something, I’m good. All the returning players know what they are doing, and are just refining their skills at the moment. Just knocking off the rust a little and getting back in the flow. Mini-camp is mostly for the rookies and new guys to get some time on the field so coaches can coach them and begin evaluating them. Then they have the summer to work on everything the coaches tell them to work on before the real training camp starts and the team cuts down to the final 53.

Daughter in Law arriving today with family, husband and 4 young boys (7 years to 7 months). DIL is a spoiled, entitled Liberal, boys are pretty spoiled, husband does what he can but between working and helping with boys can’t do much else.
The Teacher has been getting the house ready for almost a week now, child proofing, cleaning, etc. At least a short visit til Sat morning. When we visit them I spend as much time as possible at the hotel while she gets ‘grandma time’.
Will see how much I can avoid DIL, have a few things planned to get me out of the house when needed. Pray for me.
Just go full blown MAGA on her.
Might shorten her stay depending on how far gone she is.
SIL is conservative and his parents that live nearby and spend a lot of time with the family are full on MAGA.
DIL and SIL avoid talking politics and The Teacher and I try not to get much into it and cause issues between the two. We watch FOX and I plan to keep that up and it might set her off. I expect her just to move to a different room which works for me.
I can call you and pretend to be suicidal. You can put it on speaker and be like, “Oh my gosh! I have to go save him!”
Then you can basically do whatever you want.
I will post here if I get that desperate and need an emergency out. I figure a haircut and a trip to the gym for a few hours might be enough. It is only two full days and tonight and Sat Morning, fingers crossed.
The Teacher knows that DIL and I don’t get along and will not force any time together. I don’t want to cause drama and let her have her family time.

I had jury duty where a guy caused an accident.
Some jurors in deliberations were like, “but he shouldn’t pay a price” and wanted to NOT convict.
He was guilty. 100%.
But sending someone to prison can weigh on you for sure.
Right, and it’s tough because as the jury you’re only being asked to give a verdict on certain things and not fill in the blanks.

I’m trying to remember the exact play, but I remember thinking the coaches were dumb when it happened.
It was against the Rams. They were just trying to run the clock out at the end of the first half.
Yeah.
The Vikings did a running play, rather than just a QB taking a knee I think.
