Vikings Discussion and Random Thoughts
We’re half-way through another week of this NFL off-season. We’re in the middle of silly season, so keep in mind that most of what you read from the NFL sports media is basically fiction, created solely for the purpose of generating clicks and giving the writer something to write. I roll my eyes every time I see an “Aaron Rodgers to the Vikings” story, and it seems to be the headline in over half the NFL stories right now. It’s gonna be a long wait until the draft, I don’t know what they’re going to write about once Rodgers signs with Pittsburgh.
Vikings Update
The Vikings signed CB Jeff Odukah yesterday. Okudah was a first round pick by the Lions, the third overall selection in the 2020 draft out of Ohio State. He was traded to the Falcons in 2023, then played for the Texans in 2024. Injuries have plagued his young career. Looking at PFF, his pass coverage grades have been abysmal, while his run support grades have been much better. 2022 was his healthiest year when he played 15 games, and his numbers looked much better that year. He’s only 26 years old, so let’s hope Flores can help the kid re-find his groove and become the dominant corner that he was in college. He’ll be depth where the Vikings need depth, with potential to hopefully be more.
Vikings News
The Vikings signed CB Jeff Okudah to a one-year deal, per NBC Sports.
Keep up with the all the latest free agency moves by the Vikings at the Vikings.com free agency tracker.
Vikings.com also shares five things to know about new Vikings running back Jordan Mason.
It didn’t take Garrett Bradbury long to find a new home, as he was signed by the Patriots, per Yahoo Sports. The two year deal is worth up to $12 million. All the best to Bradbury, hopefully he has more success in New England, unless he plays us.
So, the Vikings hired an assistant quarterbacks coach, and they also hired a former NFL quarterback to be a defensive assistant. Charlie Frye was a quarterback drafted by the Browns, and will be Bryan Flores’ defensive assistant. Well, if he survived quarterbacking the Browns, he’s gotta be tough.
NFL News
Cam Heyward is tired of the Aaron Rodgers discussion and is ready to move on from free agency, per CBS Sports. I get it, we fans are getting annoyed just hearing about it. I can’t imagine how annoying it is for Steelers players getting questioned about it all the time.
At NFL.com, new Seahawks WR Cooper Kupp says he’s looking forward to playing the Rams twice a season.
Media Selection
We watched this the other night, pretty interesting. This coach does not punt, & kicks an onsides every time. And, he wins.

Looks like the Cam Robinson signing should net us a 6th round compensatory pick next year in addition to what we receive for Sam. Vikings to Grab Another Bonus Draft Pick
Seems like most of who we signed were let go and so don’t count in the calculation for comp picks. Nice.
I am really looking forward to the second season of Quarterbacks on Netflix.
Following Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, and Kirko chains.
I didn’t know there was a second season. The first one was very good.
Is he any good?
Got it, has potential but has been injured a lot.
https://www.si.com/nfl/cardinals/news/vikings-sign-former-arizona-cardinals-wr-rondale-moore
Great returner, really fast. Lots of potential, KOC should be able to make the most of him.
The Texans and Danielle Hunter have agreed to a one-year, $35.6 million contract extension that makes him the NFL’s second-highest paid defensive end.
You should really learn how to cite your sources and stop copy and pasting from Tom Pelliserro’s X.
No these are FACTS from HIS MIND!
Did he do much last year?
Maybe it just didn’t make news that was heard where I was?
Guess he did ok.
“made his fifth career Pro Bowl behind 46 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, three passes defended and one forced fumble”
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25173316-report-danielle-hunter-texans-agree-356m-contract-extension-no-2-de-salary
Is this guy ever happy with the contracts he himself signs?
‘$35.6 million contract extension that makes him the NFL’s second-highest paid defensive end’
It seems to be working for him.
true
Not that this is all that shocking.
Maybe the smoking gun that the CIA did it.
That is how Hillary learned to roll.
Trump beat Killary and word salad. I respect that.
Be careful. That page is just quoting a magazine article.
Adam Schefter Lays Out Way That ‘Makes Sense’ for Vikings to Bring Back Kirk Cousins
Laughing… oh man GF…
Kfey will be giddy.
Take your downvote
Street cred!!!!
His salary and a 3 pick?
I didn’t even read it. I just saw the headline & figured I’d better share it.
Didn’t read either. Assuming just more clickbait.
Give me your 1st and I’ll give you a 7th and take him off your hands.
It only makes sense if the Vikings want to commit to $37.5 million.
I assume Atlanta would eat some of that.
I think they’ll have to eat quite a bit of his salary.
Unless they Brock Osweiler him.
I like it.
Give us a 1st to take Kirko off their hands.
Yep, and then make him inactive on game day and tell him to just stay home.

This will make kfey happy.
Oops, replied to the wrong comment.
No not so much lol
Might still apply…
Will this land us a comp pick?
Dunno, but Cam Robinson wasn’t terrible as a stop gap left tackle last year when Darrisaw went down IMO.
no, he was WAY better than quenssenberry could ever be.
that was a great get for us, IMO
Compensatory crap is over my head. You find the formula freeze please post it.
If a FA contract expires, it figures into the formula.
If a player is cut, it doesn’t figure into the formula.
For every free agent you lose (signs elsewhere), you add up their average annual contract value, get your total.
Then, you add up the average annual contract value of all the free agents you sign.
If you lose more than you sign, you’ll get a compensatory pick. The more you lose, the higher the pick.
Kirk got bonkers money from Atlanta, and we didn’t sign many free agents last year, so we got the highest comp pick you can get.
This calculator by OTC is pretty good.
Compensatory Picks | Over the Cap
Yes. It should figure into the formula for 2026.
So the Vikings had 25 free agents going into this season. They have re-signed a few, but what if they end up with like 20 free agents walking? Do we get 20 comp picks?
i think the max is four in any given year.
Thanks DE. That was really the part I was missing.
What if you get more in a trade scenario?
You can get as many picks as you want via trade. See: Rick Spielman.
Nah, it costs more to trade for somebody because you have to pay them.
Haha
You don’t get comp picks on trades.
Only on free agents who leave willingly.
It goes by average annual value of the contracts.
I saw your post above. I get the math here now. Thank you.
With as many free agents as we signed, we won’t get much of a comp pick, even though Sam got a big pay day.
Most of the guys the Vikings signed won’t count in the comp pick calculations because they were released instead of just guys who had their contracts expire.
Solid point
we’ll get a 3rd for Sam Darnold.
the other additions offset the losses
but this should get us a 4th or 5th
I think having a two party system is healthy. That said, I have seen other countries take the multi party representation to the extreme, with so many parties in the mix, that coalitions are required to acquire enough of a voting block to Govern. That’s a bit much.
Our two party system is meant to give Americans a choice in who will Govern. Having opposing views is natural, and in a democratic republic, the “majority rules”.
What saddens me is that today, Americans have one pretty rational group, and one that might best be described as psychotic, to choose from. In the past, the left has certainly had its virtues. Now all it has is virtue signaling. Sad.
Yeah… the left is so ridiculous in the extreme now Bow. That is sad for our country.
Your post got me thinking on a warm summer day.
Two parties is certainly nice and ten is to many, but three or even four might be fine.
Political parties themselves are a bit of a problem. Recall both Washington warned of the powers of parties after seeing what they did in Europe. In a sense, they are like unions and the party itself becomes the end.
Your “opposing views in natural ” is true. The problem arises when one will not acknowledge/accept other’s views.
Now, this goes both ways. Can recall vivedly the Bush/Chaney/Rumsfeld crowd stream rolling anyone who disagreed with them.
And I’m a fairly strong conservative, but have Democrat friends whose virtues are every bit as solid as any Republicans I know.
I was referring to parties, vs individuals in my commentary JR. As you rightly point out, there are certainly individuals who are Dem’s whose virtues are admirable. The party as a whole only works on symbolism, virtue signaling, race baiting, woke ideology, and vitriolic rhetoric (much of it hypocritical) these days though. That is the sum total of it’s platform. Trump has finally constructed a platform for the right that is based on four core tenets. Make the country safer, more secure, more prosperous, and devoid of woke ideology. Everything he does supports one or more of those core tenets. The American people are able to see, understand, accept, and support these core tenets.
For sure I’m all in for what Trump is doing and for sure the dems are in complete disarray. But, just as Trump came along in 15 and took the party from the neocoms, someone will come along for the dems and right things for them. We just need to be ready.
Maybe. The problem the Dems have is the right is right about everything, so opposing them only makes Americans ever more incensed with the left. On the other hand if they actually start professing they will follow and support what Americans want, they just become Republicans.
Newscum will be president in 2029.
Newscum wants to be President for sure, and is laying the track to get there. Unfortunately his wealth of Governance miscues are going to be his downfall. He has a track record that he can’t ever erase. He supported and implemented policies in California (like spending $8B on illegal immigrants medical care) and wasting taxpayer dollars in record amounts.
He is really good at lying and he is hoping the American Public has the memory of goldfish.
The internet is forever, and the Republicans will make mincemeat of him, simply by telling the documented truth.

Back up QB2 options for the Vikings.
None of them sound all that good but if KOC thinks one is worth the draft capital vs Flacco who would just be a contract then I guess it would be ok if it was a 5th or some such.
https://thevikingage.com/4-qbs-not-named-aaron-rodgers-minnesota-vikings-trade-qb2-2025
i would hate to give up draft capital for a QB2.
If it is a superior option I could see it.
I don’t see anyone that is an upgrade over Flacco.
But I am not a QB Whisperer like KOC.
Happy Hump Day! 🐫
Obligatory Responce.
I guess the Vikings have officially told Rodgers no.
Seeing a few snippets of news on that.
I think that the current narrative is ‘we are currently not interested but that could change in the future’.
I think everyone here could have reported that weeks ago.
Yeah, but there was a lot of fear out there (me included). Just a huge sigh of relief to see their man Tom P. come out with that news publicly.
Truth.
We were hoping that was the situation but fearing that it was not.

Most be tough for his ego, he is not the golden boy anymore, father time and all that.
I know the feeling, for years we’d have a football game on Christmas and others days over the kids’ Christmas break. 2 captains and then choose players etc. My 6 kids, wife and me. I was always the first pick, that is number 1 overall ( Whoo Hoo). Then as kids grew, played sports of their own, I started dropping down the draft board. By the end, I was the second to last picked, second only to my wife.
https://www.nfl.com/videos/pelissero-vikings-reject-trade-calls-on-qb-j-j-mccarthy-gmfb
Since we do not do it I am ok with banning it.
i’m glad it’s the packers that are doing this (i don’t disagree with them), but when they get blasted for it, we can be like haha stupid packers
But, but, but, I keep hearing the Vikings are an unknown because they don’t know what they are going to do at QB and they don’t know if JJ will be ready by September?
trash organization that doesn’t know who is in charge
Doesn’t really matter.
All JJ does is hand it off.
KOC system is waayyy toooo hard for a rookie.
It doesn’t really matter who is playing QB. They are all the same and have been carried by their team, except one.
Good thing we signed 2 RBs so far.
Exactly.
JJ isn’t smart enough or good enough to QB KOC’s offense.
He will also probably put on a few more pounds the next year or two.
Still a kid.
Doesn’t matter, he’s never played football before so will obviously be a bust. Only one is smart enough to play QB in the NFL.
Yes, but I am too old to do it now.
Now if we could just do something about his face…
That face is going to make all the teenage girls Vikings fans. Already know a couple former Packer fans that are now Vikings fans because “JJ is sooo dreamy”.
I feel like JJ should be the leader of the evil jocks in a 1980s high school comedy.
JEALOUS?!?!
All Day…..
Is that life sized?
Nope. 6 inches. But sometimes 6 inches is juuuuuuust enough.
oh so more like 4 inches?
If I’m excited…..
I was just recounting my six inch story the other day when I picked up a new to me 3-series CUT (tractor with cab). I have a nice 800 yard “range” backstopped by a butte that I can plink away with my rifles, was browsing an online auction and saw a picture of a nice metal target “gong” … checked the cost new on Amerzon and decided I would bid as high as $100 on it…another bidder kept bumping me up and I ended up getting it for $120.
Turns out it was six inches tall (as in the gong was at most two inches). Learned my lesson.
2″ target at 800 yards would be a heck of a shot.
You have a sniper rifle?
I do…but 1/4 MOA is a bridge too far.
1/4 MOA? I can hit a thumbtack at 200 yards.

Lol……
Ahhh, I was waiting for her. I knew someone would come through 🙂
Should be used to it by now. Anything negative said about the golden one, and we are vilified by the same 2 people.
Facts be damned.
Shit you don’t even have to say anything negative. Just reference a readily verifiable fact that relates to football Jesus and you’re a liar and piece of shit.
i actually don’t even know what you are talking about, but felt this appropriate
I mean, thats an accurate depiction of NLNVF for sure.
What we all already thought, but glad to see it
This seems odd… what team in their right mind would call the Vikings to inquire about a trade for McCarthy? Multiple teams? He’s basically all they got at QB right now. They’re going to call the Vikings and ask for a trade for their only QB?
This doesn’t add up.
it only makes sense if the Vikings were going to sign Rodgers. Maybe the Giants were offering their #1 for JJMac straight up?
Well the other side of this is, McCarthy has never set foot on an NFL field in a real game. There isn’t any track record there. Why would a team want to trade for a guy who is completely unproven at the NFL level? Also, even IF the Vikings had signed a veteran, and they had the position somewhat solidified, why go right back to square one, and trade McCarthy? This sounds like a bunch of BS to me.
‘McCarthy has never set foot on an NFL field in a real game. There isn’t any track record there. Why would a team want to trade for a guy who is completely unproven at the NFL level?’
Is this not true of every college QB ever drafted by the NFL??
And yet many of them have been selected #1 overall.
Touché
Yes… but maybe you miss my point. Drafting a rookie, which only costs you a rookie contract, and trading for someone in that same lot, (i.e. investing more capitol) are two different things. And don’t take my commentary on McCarthy as criticism. It’s just the actual situation that you so accurately stated all rookies are in. No one knows if McCarthy will be a HoF level QB in the NFL. Or if he’ll even be decently productive. He certainly could be, we certainly hope he will be, but al la RGIII, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
If you draft a rookie QB high it costs you a high draft pick.
If you trade for JJ (QB) it would cost a high draft pick.
I don’t see very much difference.
It costs you a high draft pick AND his contract, vice just his contract. More capitol, for the same guy.
When you draft a guy you still have to pay him. JJ isn’t playing for the Vikings for free.
And his contract is cheaper than the #1 overall pick this year is going to get not to mention that JJ is better than any QB in this year’s draft.
I think we’re missing each other here in this back and forth. Acquiring a young QB via trade, you end up giving up an additional high draft pick, plus the cost of the contract of the player.
Maybe I can’t explain it well enough.
And when you draft QB with a high draft pick, you give said QB a contract. When you trade for one you only have to pay a portion of the contract.
Both cost you a high draft pick and a contract!
JJ (QB) is on a rookie contract.
If you believe he is better than any rookie coming out of collage this year (and many ‘experts’ do) he is a much better option.
Ummm that wasn’t my point SoCal, but I agree with your position. IF a team thinks investing in an unproven QB via trade from another team, what they invest to acquire said player is their business.
Then your point is lost on me.
Trading for JJ (QB) vs drafting one high would cost a team similar assets and JJ (QB) is a superior option.
Additionally, all collage QB are unproven.
It’s OK that my point is lost on you though.
Because you don’t have a coherent one.

Or he has one but is finding it difficult to articulate it.
Or he’s realized that to draft a player you actually have to use a draft pick and instead of admitting fault he’ll just dig in and tell everybody that they’re not smart enough to understand troglodyte philosophy and they should just stay on the porch.
I have made a point. Whether someone agrees with it, or understands it, is what it is, and does not reflect poorly on either one of us.
Simple.
Hmmm now there’s an intellectual response if ever I’ve seen one.
Well at least you’re self aware. Kudos on that.
I like the fin one. They give us Tua and a pick for JJ.
The review went fine and I got my 4% raise. I may end up buying a sports team with all the extra cash I have laying around. Or maybe if I give the Wilfs some cash they will bring A-A-Ron to Minnesota. I’ve heard rumors he’s coming here anyway.
genuinely glad it went well!
4% raise? looks like you might be able to rent one of my lake houses for a weekend, finally
I may have to aim for one of the cheaper ones. Do you have anything in the $1 million range?
That’s just for the boat house.
Glad it went well.
4% is better than them telling you to to leave.
And, it is probably a bit better than current inflation.
Sad that the only way to get a decent pay bump is to change jobs.
Did you have to sleep with anyone to get that raise?
Be honest…
crickets…..
He slept with crickets?
Beats cockroaches or ants or spiders or ticks…….
As long as it isn’t snakes.
Or ‘Liberal Karens’.
I was trying to keep it to insects to maintain the narrative.
I sleep with my wife. Does that count?
congrats. i got laid off 2 years ago, but I had been hoping and trying to get laid off for 3 years. I have never been happier (I am 64). I use it as an example for the kids that if you put your mind to a task, and are patient, you will be successful
congrats!!
Ha! That’s funny….Good Work PA!!!
I have to say, I have only been DOGED down to 60% for about 3 weeks now. I kind of like the hours.
The IRS is pleased with this news. They’ll take their 1.5%.
Hey, did you guys hear Aaron Rodgers might come to the Vikings?
