Vikings made a move by trading Harrison Phillips. Like the guy, wish him well. Pretty sure he was no longer starting here since they needed a better interior pass rush. My guess is this is just a salary cap move and a move that helps him get a chance to continue to start. Some people think the Vikings are bringing in someone. I just want no more injuries, and a win on opening Monday.
Vikings last practice game is tonight. Hoping for zero injuries and clarity on who the Backup QB will be. Rooting for Brosmer.

Never saw or heard exactly what went on there but I liked it.
That was a great game. At the time Buffalo was like 8-0 and we were 7-1, and this game was considered two of the best at the time. We went to their house and best them, and they got a couple of big officiating breaks.

Absolutely love going on cruises.
I will not eat in the main buffet though. Even on Royal or Disney (More expensive than Carnival) the behavior of unsupervised kids and useless adults like in that video make me prefer to eat elsewhere.
This kind of crap can happen on those cruise lines as well, but it is less common since the cruises cost more.
Worth paying a bit extra to not deal with that many people.

My favorite vacation, and I get motion sickness. yes, they are crowded. There are places to go to get away from crowds. It is a bit more challenging with kids, since the pool areas are always crowded. But there was plenty to do, and our kids got what they wanted most, spending time hanging out with their parents.
Disney cruise was my kids favorite vacation. First one we did was after two family vacations that cost more. South Dakota, and Disney World.
To be fair, we hit every tourist trap possible in South Dakota, but man we spent money.
I asked the kids, who were 7 and 9 at the time, what vacation they liked better, Disney World or the Cruise. Without hesitation the entire family liked the cruise more than the theme parks.
With the unlimited food (even if it is Chicken Tenders and pizza for the kids) and the fact that I did not drink at the time, the cruises are very reasonable for a family. We spent over a thousand less for a cruise with airfare than we spent on 1 week in South Dakota.
My wife and I love cruises also. The only time we took one of our kids was when my daughter chose a cruise for her graduation gift. I did go with kids one time, but that was when my sister and BIL took there kids and grandkids on a Disney cruise. At the last minute, their SIL got a new job and couldn’t come, so they switched the reservation over to me and I drove my niece and her girls down to Florida and got to go along on the cruise. It was awesome, because Disney does a great job with their cruises, plus I had no children to be responsible for, so I just got to relax and enjoy.
We went on an Alaskan Cruise, with Norwegian. It was awesome, I highly recommend it.
We went on a couple of these cheap Carnival Cruises to Cozumel, etc. It was OK, but a lot of rowdy people and overcrowded. Won’t do that again.
Next year, we are going on one of those Viking River Cruises through central Europe. Looking forward to that.
Which cruise are you doing in central Europe…we are doing the Danube Waltz in September.
From Amsterdam to Basil, Switzerland.
The Rhine cruise, we did that back in 2014. You will love it! The cruise goes right past my childhood stomping grounds (CFB Baden-Soellingen, now Baden Air Park). If they still offer and you go on the tour to the Mercedes assembly plant in Rastatt there is a point on the bus ride you drive right past the home we lived in as upstairs tennants in Plittersdorf. It was surreal for me to see all the places I rode bike and farted around in during my blissful innocent days.

PS just as in childhood I climbed the north tower of the Strasbourg cathedral (there is no south tower, so the characteristic asymmetry and the fact it is visible for many miles across Alsace make it quite famous). It was a muggy day in June and I was quite moist and glistening when I got to the top, but the view is well worth it. I challenge you to do the same.
It was the tallest structure in the world from 1647 until 1874 (take that, Mr. Lanaway, I still remember our 4th grade field trip).
PS it was much easier to climb at age 10 than age 46.
Oh man, I’ll be 65 on that trip, not sure I could make the climb, anymore…

We enjoyed our Alaska cruise. Favorite memory is of course getting pulled by the sled dogs around a little course with a wheeled cart and getting to hold puppies. But there were plenty of good memories. Glacier Bay and Margerie Glacier are spectacular, plus you are very close to Canada which makes it all the more special.
I have never been on a cruise either, the idea doesn’t appeal to me.
I could be convinced to try and Alaskan Cruise or a flight to Europe for a Rhine Version but other than than….. no thanks.
Me neither SoCal, I could be talked into it but my wife is a HARD NO. She cannot swim and has always been afraid of water. Being in a ship in the middle of the ocean is not her idea of a good time.
That being said, pretty much everyone I know who has gone on a cruise has really enjoyed it.
You have to think of it from the stance of the excursions. Basically the ship is a floating hotel that exists to transport your room from one port to the next.
We have done many river cruises and will do many more. We are doing a little intracoastal waterway cruise from South Carolina to Florida St Augustine in the spring.
My wife wants to do one of the cruises that go from Boston along the Canadian coast during the fall leaf color time. That will have to wait until she retires since she is a teacher and those only occur during school time of the year.
The Teacher retired last year she is enjoying ‘not doing Back to School drama’ this year.
She is planning to go to Hawaii in Oct with her daughters family so maybe we take a ‘road trip’ next year.

Our last few cruises have been on Norwegian. I have never been on a Carnival cruise because I heard they are just party cruises and I’m not a partier, nor do I care to be around partiers on a cruise. Our first cruise was on Royal and we enjoyed that. Of course that was way back in the day when you had assigned tables for dinner. I would prefer to go on cruises where they are smaller crowds, but those are beyond my budget. My oldest sister does Princess Cruise line.
They still have assigned tables for dinner. You can opt out and wait for an open table, or have the early or late seating. You can also just hit the buffet (lots of families do that, since you can be in your swimsuit if you want). There are also specialty restaurants that come with an upcharge if you are a gouger and have money to burn.
I like the assigned table. You have the same waitstaff for the entire cruise, and you get to know some interesting people from all over the world. We normally ask to be sat at a large table. If nobody shows up the second night, we know we pissed them off. Has not happened yet.
When Wentz got hurt in December 2017 I was sharing a dinner table with two Eagles fans. They were not jerks, surprisingly, so when the Vikings failed a few weeks later I could at least be happy for two people I knew.
For Royal, if you go on an older / smaller ship that is more than 10 years old, it will be less expensive, and not have as many kids. They are normally much quieter and not as crowded.
That was our take on the Royal cruise is that the average age was very high. That’s my kind of crowd. Norwegian no longer does the assigned tables. We typically go to the dining room for dinner because the food seems to be better than the “slop house” (my SIL term for the buffet).
Slop house is completely accurate. Even the Disney cruise, that had the best dining imo, had some “Old Country Buffet” style food at the buffet. Not my thing.
Kids loved the buffet though. Until we showed them where they could get pizza or chicken tenders or ice cream, all day, near the pool.

I’ve done Royal Caribbean to Bahamas and Norwegian to Honduras, Belize and Mexico. Got sick on that one.

Royal’s Private Island was a blast. Great water park, and there is an Adults-Only beach where we spent most of the day.
I will be there in March. Doing a 3 night cruise on one of the new big ships. Thankfully they have a large adult area on the ship as well. I love kids, but not when I am on vacation trying to relax. I am sure once I am a grandpa that will change.
Screw that, I’m a grandpa and I have zero wish to vacation with kids.
We’re going to a niece’s wedding soon and she wanted to make it no kids but her mother guilted her into allowing kids. Every wedding I’ve been at with kids there is always a screaming kid that spoils it.
PS when I was a kid I was never in attendance at weddings
I will like vacationing with grandkids. Going to be awhile though.
For now, when I vacation, I stay as far away from child-packed areas as I can.
Also, same about never attending weddings as a child. I think I was a teenager when I finally saw a family wedding in person.
