Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
While the game last night was kind of boring, I thought the backups played pretty well when not playing against starters from the other team. Mostly. I also think Brosmer locked up a roster spot. If I were a gambler, and I am, I would bet on Rypien to be the odd man out, but it could also be Howell. I also think the punter they brought in to compete lost the job when he could not handle the snap on a FG attempt. The margin for error is so small, it sucks for these guys on the roster bubble. At least the practice squad is larger. I expect a lot of waiver wire action once teams announce their final 53.

Jerry Jones is still an idiot, and I hope the cowboys never win another division title, let alone another Super Bowl. I am not bitter at all. Drew Pearson pushed off. Norm Sucks. So many reasons to hate Texas…..

This is the single most incredible catch I have ever seen…
With so much on the line in the game too. Maybe the wildest game I’ve ever watched.
Yep, given the context it was epic.
Game in 2 weeks i would think Brosmer would suit #2 with his play book knowledge.
Makes sense
Here’s where we currently sit for the 2026 draft:
• 1st
• 2nd
• 3rd
• 5th
• 5th (via Philadelphia)
• 6th (via New York Jets)
• 6th (via Houston)
• 7th
That isn’t even factoring in comp picks.
I believe they are guesstimating for comp picks that we will get a 3rd for Darnold, a 4th for Daniel Jones and a 5th for Cam Robinson
That could be our ticket to a big future for the next 5 years.
We juzt gotta convince Kwesi to move up…quality over quantity
Yeah, he seems to do better with UDFAs than late round picks.
Might as well use the late picks to move up for more early rounders.
The Cowboys released La’el Collins today. Collins started 71 games for the Cowboys from 2015-21, and joined the team in training camp and played in three preseason games.
I’d bet he gets picked up quickly.
Tommy Fleetwood is finally a PGA Tour winner. In his 164th tournament start, he finally won the Tour Championship at East Lake, in Atlanta.
Oh yeah, he won the FedEx Cup and $10M too.
Minnesota announced the contracts of veteran QB Brett Rypien and OLB Cam Gill have been terminated.
The Vikings also announced the following nine players have been waived:
CB Reddy Steward
CB Keenan Garber
RB Tre Stewart
S Mishael Powell
T Logan Brown
OL Zach Bailey
WR Silas Bolden
WR Robert Lewis
DL Travis Bell
The moves place Minnesota’s current active roster at 79 players, including International Player Pathway participant Oscar Chapman..
I honestly have never heard of anybody in that list.
Ok, maybe Bolden.
Yeah… same.
I think I heard Powell’s name on one of the preseason broadcasts, but I agree, I have no idea who the rest of them are.
Twins continue their race to the bottom.
Getting smoked by the Sox.
Welp… not unexpected…
Expect it to be better than JJ(QB), Howell, Rypien.
Thank God.
Howell is terribad.
Rypien is also.
Good day for the QB room, I say.
Yesss
Net positive, with extra draft picks added
Stopped by to read the comments about the Wentz signing. I was never really a fan and I honestly thought he was out of the league.
He was.
Well in that he was not signed onto any team until the Vikings gave him a call.
Although he was a backup last year in KC.
Thanks.
Good to see you Kathy. Not a Wentz fan, as you have probably noted.
Hey NLNVF, getting excited about football season.
I was never strongly “anti-Wentz” (like I am for certain low character guys), I just wasn’t a believer in him either.
I’m definitely not anti-Wentz, I just know from watching him that he is mostly improvisational, and likes to make plays, vice running an offense efficiently and as called. He is a guy who is very competitive, and runs a lot.
Agree.
NLNV….some have TDS, some have KDS, you have WDS.
Here are the QBRs from the last 3 seasons where each QB started at least 10 games.
Kirk Cousins 58.3 52.3 50.4 3 year average 53.7
Carson Wentz 62.8 41.9 60.6 3 year average 55.1
He has been in shitty situations and performed o.k. all things considered. He will be fine. Great pick up by the Vikes.
NoDak… QBR heavily weights running QB’s as playmakers and scores them higher. Pocket passers have much lower QBR’s.
I don’t disagree with that….I would take cousins over wentz, just pointing out that he isn’t has bad as many on the page seem to think he is.
He has a career passer rating of 89.3 with a 62% completion rate, so he is very average.
Average was better than Howell or Rypien.
Again, an upgrade.
I really don’t care that much on this and if he was a good enough backup for Andy Reid, good enough for me.
But sort of remember his problem later with the Eagles and then with both Colts and Redskins, was leadership and locker room issues with teammates. Not so much with being able to throw the ball.
The year before KC he was the Rams backup. I expect that will help him get up to speed quicker.
McVay might even had given KOC some insights into him.
This is what I voted for…
So… let’s say the Eagles meet the Vikings in the NFC Championship game, and they win and go on to the Super Bowl. How unhappy will Howell be that he got traded? Hmmmm?
He is probably happy at the moment since we went to the defending champs.
Yeah… but I was just stirring the pot… grin.
GF is probably happy. He’s always wanted Wentz in purple.
Well, my thought is, let’s pray McCarthy stays healthy.
That was always the case.
Of course, hopefully we’ll never have to see Wentz play.
My son grew up and still lives in Bismarck. He said that while he never met Wentz he heard he was a solid guy until he went to Philly and his head/ego blew up.
Hopefully that has been fixed by reality by now.
I am fine with picking up Wentz. Even though I do not think he is a great QB, at one time he was decent on a great team.
He is an upgrade over Howell, who sucks.
This team still has depth issues, and losing JJ would be pretty bad.
Right now, I would prefer Brosmer over Wentz over Rypien.
Pretty sure the current depth will be JJ/Wentz/Brosmer and goodbye to Rypien unless he is on the Practice Sqad.
If JJ gets hurt, within two weeks Wentz would probably be benched in favor of Brosmer.
My two cents.
Agreed, I’ll bet GoneFishin is very happy right now.
To make space for Howell the Poopeaters cut Lewis Cine.
Shocked, Not Shocked.
That’s gold…
I’ve never thought Wentz was a really good NFL QB. Obviously KOC sees something in him. I said Sam Darnold had talent last year, but sometimes turns into a head case on the field.
Wentz is a big, strong athlete, who isn’t great at running an offense with precision.
He’s not gonna help McCarthy at all.
‘I’ve never thought Wentz was a really good NFL QB’
He doesn’t have to be very good to be an upgrade over Howell.
Well, I’d say it’s a wash between the two, except Wentz can run over people.
Still an upgrade.
In Howell’s last 11 starts, he’s 1-10 with the only win over a Patriots team that went 4-13.
In his last 7 starts, Howell tallied 4 TD passes and 12 interceptions. In his only relief appearance while backing up Geno Smith, he was even worse than that.
Howell sucked.
I don’t have high expectations for Wentz, but he could be better than what Howell showed.
I thought trading for Howell was a bad move when they did it
Yeah. It didn’t make much sense to me.
So it is looking like a QB room of JJ (QB), Wentz and Brosmer?
Yep. Will Brosmer be on the 53 or will they try to get him on the PS?
I guess he’s on the 53 roster.
I think it will be easier to get Rypien on the PS, if we even want him there.
Well now…
Sounds like they are getting back as much as they gave up for him initially, zero sum move.
Yeah, they got a little bit, not much. At least they got something for Howell. Can’t remember what we gave up for him.
Swap of 5th round picks or something like that.
Nice trade
Vikings get 2026 5th rounder and 2027 7th rounder. Typo in tweet
Can confirm.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46063756/sources-vikings-add-carson-wentz-trade-sam-howell-eagles
Tuesday is going to really suck for a bunch of guys.
Cut down day does suck. Then in the following days, guys who think they made it, still get cut as teams pick up guys cut by other teams.
It can get a bit hectic.
Throw in guys like Wentz that were sitting at home and could be thrown into the mix. And then you have the scramble for the practice squads.
Happy Sunday.
Morning, VP.
Hola to you both.
Hola… my Mexican heritage wife is making a big lunch for us today. Love that girl!
I am going to have left over Subway Teriyaki Chicken samich on flatbread. I an not mad about it.
Church picnic today so lots of good food coming up. They are doing chicken, hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill.
Always some great food at those Church events.
#jelly
Plus the church provided corn on the cob. Yum. There were plenty of great sides brought by everyone and a ton of great deserts. I may not need to eat for a week.

Looks like a great place/time for a nap.
It’s gonna be a long season…
Players will adjust and act like emotionally mature adults while on the field.
Please no…
‘Please no…’
But he is from North Dakota allegedly.
Make it happen!!!
OK, I officially hate this if accurate…

Kwesi waiting on roster cuts before making a trade?
Im always curious when it comes to preseason. The chiefs game last night, the starters played well into the 2nd quarter, including THE BEST QUARTERBACK IN FOOTBALL, they have been to AT LEAST the championship game what 7 years in a row? So I would probably follow what they do when it comes to preseason
@Nah…KCs coach has no idea what the hell he is doing….what a moron.@
Yep… that guy is a loser…
Pretty sure the Chefs didn’t scrimmage any other team this preseason.
Ravens taking it to the Redskins
Elijah Williams got hurt last night. I saw him come up lame, looked like a hammy. Hopefully minor. I think he really flashed this preseason and was going to make the 53
I see the Panthers wanted a 3rd rounder for Thielen…
I figure the most we give then is a 6th in order to protect that ‘all important’ 7th rounder.
Otherwise wait for Tuesday and grab the best WR that is cut.
It looks like the Vikings will bargain shop Tuesday/Wednesday
Probably the way to go.
Someone might still trade a decent backup WR that they are going to cut anyway for a late round draft choice.
Agreed, and i would expect Carolina to pick up some salary
Yep. Too high of a pick.
Edge: @who cares? This is just normal male cheerleading. It’s normal.@
It is Normal in Tampon Tim’s Minnesota.
Probably showing my age here (and after 9 days in the zoo).
When I was in school you had the baseball players, basketball and track guys, all athletes, but the football guys were the macho guys- played with broken noses and blood all over their uniforms.
And you see this, my God what has football become.
Why do the guys have smaller pom poms?
Maybe they grow a pair as the season starts.
It looks like the Trump White House “pressured” Missouri Republicans to redraw the borders of its eight districts to give the party a 7-1 seat advantage, up from the current 6-2 delegation. According to reports, the effort would likely focus on splitting the Missouri’s 5th Congressional District, currently held by Democrat Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, to spread thin supporters in the Democratic stronghold.
This is fighting fire with fire. Dem’s have gerrymandered states all over the country to their advantage over the last two decades. Republicans are just releveling the country, to the appropriate proportions of voters.
Does Missouri allow ‘Mid Decade’ redistricting like Texas does or do they have to have a ‘special election’ to approve it like Commiefornia?
Yes, as does most states. The commentary that insists the Constitution only allows redistricting every ten years is a lie. The Constitution requires a census every ten years, and redistricting usually follows that timeline. Many states do follow that model as a matter of convenience. However, redistricting is always a political event, and states do redistricting in accordance with their individual laws, what the political leadership in the majority pursues.
The Supreme Court ruled that this is the case, and the Judiciary has no role in determining how any redistricting occurs.
States have their own Constitutions. The Federal Constitution does not forbid it but some State Constitutions do.
The Supreme Court has ruled that ‘redistricting’ can not be done for ‘racial reasons’. So they will try to tie any lawsuits to that. Which is why the Dims keep throwing out the race card.
Correct, as it should be.
I don’t know about the greatest first TD ever, but it was great to see…
I wouldn’t call it the ‘GOAT’ but maybe ‘Above Average’.
I like rewatching it for sure.
That’s a neat play. Give a golf star to Hamm for providing the time for it to happen.
Hamm (in my opinion) is a real football guy. He’ll block like a demon, run hard as hell, and even catch the ball in the flat. He has one speed. All out.
The QB threw him open.
Happy Saturday.
Can someone explain to me why a company would give the government 10%?
Also, how is this not akin to socialism? We don’t want the government’s hands in everything, right? How do their competitors feel about this “deal”?
‘Can someone explain to me why a company would give the government 10%?’
This does a decent job of it.
Basically INTEL has faded in a ‘project’ company so they ‘gave’ the government 10% of the company and they will receive ‘Investments and grants’ equal to $11.1 Billion.
https://newsroom.intel.com/corporate/intel-and-trump-administration-reach-historic-agreement
In a Socialist society, the Government owns all of the industry (like an Airlines for instance, or the oil industry) vice a portion. This is a very cool move by Trump, and a win-win situation. INTEL gets some help in order to grow and prosper, and the country gets a great and permanent return on that.
Making more money for the country is a good thing.
I know that in some of the Tariff agreements some counties agreed to ‘invest’ huge amounts in the US and DJT gets to choose where it goes. Wonder if this is where some of that investment money is going?
Trump knows pretty much every country in the world needs to trade with us. Their economies cannot survive without us. Yet they have been allowed to tariff our goods, and even block our goods from being sold in their countries for decades. This is ridiculous of course. Trump has put his foot down firmly that the U.S. will only do fair trade deals now. You saw Canada backed off its “retaliatory” tariffs, because Canada is very dependant on us, and the fact is, we don’t need them at all.
I gotta be honest, I REALLY enjoyed seeing that idiot Carney backtrack yesterday.
The ‘experts’ are wrong more often than a ‘coin flip’.
Would INTEL’s competitors feel the same way?
I like most of Trump’s deals, but we don’t have to like all of them. I don’t like the gov’t owning 10% of a private company.
So ‘Bailouts’ of critical infrastructure with no return to the gov is better?
Correct. The taxpayer dollars by the billions bailing companies out, with no return is WRONG. Trump is right here.
The US needs to support vital companies and business sectors, Giving money away is one way, this is a better way I think. Is there and even better way? If so I have not heard of it.
I know all the automotive and financial bailouts in the past have never benefited the average person.
Since ‘the US paid nothing for these shares’ I don’t believe this qualifies as a ‘bailout’.
I was just pointing out that this is way better than just handing a corporation money, or a low interest loan.
We agree there.
So true about a socialist society. But, we are suppose to be a capitalistic society and as such do we want the government to actually own portions of private companies.
They are not ‘taking over’ private companies. They are forging working relationships. Not handouts but a hand up.
Exactly SoCal. The days of our taxpayer dollars being sent to corporations with no benefit to US, are over. You want a bailout, or our money to help you out? We get something in return.
Won’t a loan work without government ownership?
Don’t know, maybe.
Ask DJT and INTEL about that option.
Like Trump a lot. But many times he thinks like a CEO of industry (which has its pluses) when he would do better to think like the CEO of the federal government.
Ownership is better, it’s a forever income source for us.
Really. Suppose you and I own a competing company. The government owns stock in our competitor AND is the regulator for both of us. Guess the government will fine itself.
The only thing that the Gov will do it rake in a share of the profits, and shore up a sagging industry.
I guess you think giving the money away with no return is ok. Letting the Chip Sector Fail is not an option.
No, not at all. But there are ways to do this without ownership.
Have been in business where the government actually took over a failing competitor and saw first hand how the government umpired the playing field.
You have a valid perspective. I don’t have the knowledge and background to know better.
But I do like it better than what has been done before. I am perfectly willing to trust DJT to try something new and not just repeat losing tactics.
The government has many levers and tools it can use. I’m just not crazy of government “ownership.”
And actually loans were bad enough. Remember when the Dems loaned Detroit all that money and then of course started dictating how GM would run their business.
Yes there are lots of ways to do it. All have proponents and detractors.
The devil is in the details and I trust the President to find a better way.
Just like all the experts said ‘Tariffs Are Bad’ as a rule? It depends on how they are used.
I trust Trump a lot. But he ain’t going to be there forever.
state-owned enterprise (SOE)
SOEs aim to generate profit for the government, prevent private sector monopolies, provide goods at lower prices, implement government policies, or serve remote areas where private businesses are scarce.

Hooters is phasing out their skimpy shorts, in favor of more modest attire.
The country is falling apart. Grin.
Yea everyone went there only for the food.
Went to a course called Leadership at the Peak. One central theme was ‘know your brand.’
Appears Hooters wants to change theirs. Remember when McDonald’s tried that – people didn’t go there to eat carrot sticks and the CEO got fired.
There was a Hooters in Killeen Tx, right outside Ft Hood.
We had events there and it was decent. Food was good, ‘sports bar’ atmosphere. Some wives objected due to the reputation but for me the ‘girls’ were not much better than most restaurants. They were nice and even came out and helped when we had a car wash in their parking lot.
I have eaten at Hooters twice. And there is one nearby. Food was okay. I think B Dubs used to have much better wings. Now there are so many places to go with better food, that it just never was a big attraction.
That said, I like the current/traditional uniforms they wear. Good scenery is never objectionable to most people. I find the ugliest people complain the loudest whenever pretty women are doing anything that they could not do. Or rather, nobody wants to see them dressed like that.
Yup.
The Ugly Karens complained the most about Sidney Sweeney.
You’d almost think ugly women don’t want men to look at pretty women.
It’s only been since the beginning of time and no matter what Hillary says, Billie is not going to look at her more fondly.
Pretty is only skin deep, men will look as that is in their DNA.
Pretty/good looking women come with their own issues as they use it and figured that they are owed more.
Yes there were places just as nice with as good or better food nearby.
But if you honoring a soldiers promotion or giving him/her a farewell and they say that they want it at Hooters then that is where you hold it.

Must be the weekend. It’s almost 7:30 am and no one else has commented.
In the little of the game I watched last night, I thought Brosmer looked good and decisive. Good arm.
Good morning and SKOL.
