Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Eh, I meant to post this yesterday, but forgot to schedule it. It’s Tuesday now.
We had a great weekend, kiddo was out of school yesterday so we had an extra day to get out into nature.

Holy cow, THAT was an amazing game! A complete 180 from last week’s crap-fest against Atlanta. The Vikings curb-stomped the Bengals on Sunday.
Vikings Defense
The Vikings defense absolutely dominated this game from start to finish. They stopped the run, confused the Bengals offense, forced turnovers, and racked up two defensive touchdowns, both by Isaiah Rodgers. The defense only allowed 3 points, plus one garbage-time touchdown toward the end of the game. A+ job by Flores, that defense was amazing. Getting Harrison Smith and VanGinkel back helped a ton. Greenard was a beast all day, I saw him all over the field wreaking havoc, even though he didn’t dominate the stat sheet.
Offense
Carson Wentz
You can’t ask for much more out of your backup quarterback than the Vikings got from Carson Wentz. With only a couple weeks of preparation, Wentz came in and performed very well. He wasn’t perfect, but he led the offense well, made some very nice throws, and put together a very good day under center. He was hesitant on a few throws, but you expect that when a guy is still just learning the offense. The Vikings appear to be in good hands whilst McCarthy recovers.
Jordan Mason
I love how Jordan Mason runs the ball, he’s a punishing runner who always gets more yards than you expect him to get on a play. He’s explosive through the hole, getting to the second level almost immediately. I also like Zavier Scott, I’ve liked him since watching him in the preseason, and think he shoudl remain the RB2. He has a perfect complimentary skill set to match with Jordan Mason’s running style, they make a great 1-2 punch. I know the Vikings are bringing in Cam Akers, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see Scott lock into that platoon role alongside Mason.

This made me laugh…
Tonight’s dinner.
Turkey Tenderloin.
Nice! Yum!
Oh Yum, that looks good
I saw something posted about Addison, that said this:
Vikings are planning on paying WR Jordan Addison
“He is a No. 1 receiver, but here, No. 2. Wait until you see the contract extension, [Addison] will sign. The Vikings have in their minds this idea that they are going to pay Addison.”
What? No way. I mean I hope so but I don’t see it happening.
Yeah, this is getting to be a problem in the NFL. Every player thinks he’s worth $30M a year.
Every agent who oddly gets a percent talks them into they are worth it lol
Indeed
Morris knows whats up. Smart man.
I think he just hates white people.
Did you see my trade proposal in sleeper?
Yeah, he just fired his WR coach, because his QB can’t hit them when they’re open for TD’s. He’s a GD genius.
It’s a joke. The guy’s the worst coach in the NFL and the Falcons fans would run him out of town tomorrow if they could.
Decidedly off topic, but I chortled internally and thanked God mightily that I am not in obstetrics or pediatrics when I watched the major autism announcement. Now they couldn’t pronounce acetaminophen but we’ve found the cause! What joy night call will be with the screaming febrile infant or febrile or pain suffering gravid patient.
At least those of us in the northern states have the option of putting the baby in a snowbank for a couple of minutes when they have a fever of 105.
Can’t use acetaminophen, but the cure of folinic acid which oddly enough Dr. Oz’s company iHerb sells… You know the Administrator or CMS and they are going to relable it for Autism Treatment… This seems like Fauci shit 2.0.
Well that said, I believe in being prudent, pragmatic, and practical when it comes to medications. There were 27 studies that found a correlation between Tylenol use and autism, and 13 that did not. What would one prudently consider with this data? I’d say there is some potential, that in some instances, Tylenol might be a contributing factor. Therefore what would the pragmatic thing be to do? Until more studies are conducted and data analyzed, maybe we should limit the intake of Tylenol during a pregnancy, as is practical.
Just my take.
Lets just remember, “correlation does not mean causation”
I think this is the case from what I’ve been reading too.
Yep, I know PA… I chose the word correlation, for a reason.
Those numbers sound cherry picked tbh… According to AI… For what it’s worth I asked.
The specific numbers cited in the query—27 studies showing a correlation between Tylenol (acetaminophen) and autism, versus 13 that do not—are not widely supported and are an oversimplification of the available research. The claim appears to derive from a 2025 review of scientific literature, but many experts dispute its findings and interpretation.
What the research actually shows
Instead of a simple split between correlated and not correlated findings, the research on Tylenol and autism is complex and often contradictory.
Evidence of association:
Evidence against causation:
Association vs. causation
A critical point of confusion is the difference between a statistical “association” and a “causal link”. An association only suggests two factors may be related, but does not prove that one caused the other. For example, ice cream sales and shark attacks both increase in summer, but one does not cause the other.
What to do about Tylenol use
Thanks for the info. Sounds solid.
So nothing I said, was inappropriate, or unfounded.
If you don’t take the medicine/drug then Big Pharma doesn’t get paid. So of course they fund ‘studies’ to insure than the money doesn’t get cut off.
Personally I subscribe to the FACT that ‘the only difference between medicine and poison is dosage’. I take medicine rarely (maybe once a year) and only a tablet or two then quit it. My Dr asked me how I treat headaches, I told them I treat them with Contempt. He said ‘Contempt’? I said ‘Yeah, I say ‘F-You headache and ignore it, eventually it goes away’.
Well that could be said about water (and just about everything ever) too. In high enough doses it’s deadly… So you don’t drink that eithet I’m sure. Haha.
This guy definitely should have been benched and then cut after a start like this to the season.
CMP ATT YDS CMP% AVG TD INT LNG SACK RTG
5 10 46 50.0 4.6 0 0 21 0 62.9
13 23 168 56.5 7.3 0 0 38 1 79.6
12 24 86 50.0 3.6 0 0 15 4 58.7
AI says it was Brady.
Bum.
The INT’s and Sacks look better than someone I watched recently.
Formatting, what is it? How does it work?
It was formatted properly until I hit post. This website reformats on you. It looked really pretty before I posted it.
Kirkos first three games?
Nah… In Cousins first ever start in the NFL in 2012, when he was rookie in an offense designed and implemented for RGIII, he went 26 of 37 (70.3%) for 329 yards and 2 TD’s with a 104.4 passer rating.
First ever start… in an offense not designed for him… and never really practicing with the first team, till the Wednesday before the game. Came in and lit it up in his very first game.
Peyton Manning?
So I’m sure this isn’t going to be a popular position, but so far Wentz has shown a much better ability to produce in this offense than McCarthy. Yes, he takes some sacks he could have avoided at times, but that’s not terrible.
Folks say we should give McCarthy a chance to play with the first string O-line, which he hasn’t had yet. To date, we have not had the entire starting five O-linemen on the field together this season.
Personally, if Wentz continues to play solidly, I would continue to play him. I would stick with the hot hand. I don’t think this will happen though. I think KOC will bring McCarthy back after the bye, as he said. Handing the keys to a 22 year old QB, who to date is unproven (IMO) doesn’t make sense to me, if you have a vet QB that is getting the job done. Of course, if Wentz regresses and plays poorly, that’s a different set of circumstances.
I get that folks think McCarthy is some sort of generational talent. I don’t share that perspective. I think he will be a good, not great NFL QB eventually.
I get that folks think McCarthy is some sort of generational talent. I don’t share that perspective. I think he will be a good, not great NFL QB eventually.
So, basically another Kirk Cousins, but without overpaying a bajillion dollars for good, not great. A moderate extension if warranted, that allows the team to keep building vs holding the team hostage for money.
I am all for that.
McCarthy is many years away from being remotely in Cousins league, and I don’t know if he’ll ever get there.
And yet he has started two games this season, while your favorite QB is holding a clipboard for Penix.
So what. One is an unproven rookie and the other is an aging veteran coming off a couple of big injuries.
Yeah… there is absolutely no rhyme or reason for that… it doesn’t mean that Cousins isn’t one of the best QB’s the Vikings have ever had though.
And it doesn’t mean he isn’t the best QB on the Falcons roster either.
And I do trust Kevin O’Connell when it comes to evaluating QB’s, and think his opinion is way more important than yours or mine when it comes to evaluating talent.
Kirk is not worth the money he has been paid. Coach may think he was worth it, but he did help in the decision to move on.
JJ vs Bo Nix, I have to defer to coach. He made the choice and could have had either.
JJ is the future of this team. Kirk is the past.
And the past is full of disappointments.
I never said my opinion was better than anyone else’s though… including KOC’s.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/did-kevin-o-connell-avoid-committing-to-jj-mccarthy-as-vikings-starter/ar-AA1N7WCH
Found this interesting article about O’Connell’s thoughts on what JJ needs to play quarterback at a high level.
“10,000 reps and 10,000 hours of what it takes to play the position at a very high level”.
This has been my position all along. No college QB comes in “NFL ready”. There are play concepts an OC can implement to help a young QB succeed for sure, but in the end, it’s thousands hours of study and thousands of reps that gets you there. There are no shortcuts.
I get going with McCarthy to see if he is the future.
I really don’t know what I would do if I had to make the decision. Maybe it will become apparent in the next few weeks. If we look formidable with Wentz and seem like we can win the division, then I’d probably stick with him.
If we lose both our European games, I’d probably accept we aren’t passing the Lions or Packers and going back to McCarthy and letting him prove he has what it takes is the right way to go.
Then he’ll get injured again, and Brosma will come in and solve all our problems because he was the chosen one all along!
SLOTERGOAT
This sounds reasonable.
Well… you could be right… grin.
Maybe we should let him play more than 2 games to prove what he can be this season and beyond.
That is very likely to happen… I have said here that I haven’t yet seen anything in McCarthy that makes him special. That’s my perspective.
At least he’s had good teams to carry him in HS & college…
He succeeded in college on a team with an overwhelming running game and defense, under a head coach with an overwhelming winning pedigree. I don’t know about high school.
He had an entire year to study the Vikings offense, and watch Darnold run it. Now KOC says he’s seen some things Wentz did, that McCarthy could learn from. I thought KOC was the QB expert, and he was meeting with McCarthy one on one every week last year to further his development? Guess he missed a few things.
To me, the jury is still out on McCarthy. That’s just my take.
I would counter with; if all you care about is right now, then yes, stick with Wentz. If you are trying to win for the foreseeable future, you play McCarthy .
Whether McCarthy is the QBOTF, or not, we will never know if we don’t play him.
There is no guarantee that McCarthy is the future. He might be, he might not be. The future is now though as George Allen would say. Don’t waste a season trying to figure out whether McCarthy is good. Go with what you know. Each season is only 17 games. You need to win at least 9 or 10 games to get into the playoffs (historically on average). I’d stick with Wentz if he’s playing well, and we’re winning games. Always put the best team out on the field, and win games first.
And next year when Wentz leaves for a bigger contract, we still don’t know what we have. Play JJ and see what you’ve got. If it’s not him start over.
I would never play professional sports that way. Get the win. Field what you believe is the strongest team every game. Like Herm Edwards said… “Hello? You play to win the game”.
Experimenting with a guy, to see if he can do it, when you have another guy who is already doing it, is a bad plan poorly executed. You’re asking fans to pay for your experimentation, and seeing what a kid can and cannot do. It’s irrational to me. Rationally, you play to win the game, and win championships. Playing around with that equation, playing chess instead of checkers, playing the long game as it were, cheats the fans and the players on the team. What about guys like the Hitman? This is probably his last ride. No… don’t put the best team on the field to try and win as many games as possible, and get into the playoffs and maybe the Super Bowl. We need to see how McCarthy, who can’t read a defense, recognize a blitz, or call out his protection adjustments, to go out there and see if he can play a little.
While I agree… Darrisaw is an absolute game changer. Mason is the RB 1 and for some reason KOC only ran 3 quick game concepts the first two games which is insanity knowing you are down your LT, you have a young first time QB, struggling to run and weapons that can get YAC.
I suppose this is data driven…
Sort of meaningless – Falcons loss hurt the rankings.
Oh No!!
More ‘Expert Clickbait’.
Yeah…
Yikes… Anybody who thinks the Ravens are worse than the Commanders, Bucs, Colts, and even the Packers is delusional.
Last night the Ravens were without seven key, and impactful starters. Top players that were difference makers on the field. That’s a lot to overcome when you are playing a Super Bowl contending team. I think we’ll see the Ravens in the playoffs, and last night might have actually been a Super Bowl preview.
So, I just saw the article about Dart starting for the Giants over Russell Wilson. My thoughts on this are simply my opinion, but this is what I think.
Wilson may be the best deep ball passer ever. He can hit guys deep in tight coverage, better than anyone I’ve ever seen. He’s a smaller QB though, so when he was with Seattle, he would take very deep drops to give him room to see the field, escape pressure, and throw the ball. Since he left the SeaHawks, I see him setting up much more in a traditional pocket, where it’s much harder for him to operate.
Finally, Wilson is more of a play maker than a conventional pocket passer. I think it’s like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole so to speak. This has hurt his effectiveness.
A pretty quick hook
No QB is going to do well with that team.
Hot seat in NY.
Jaxon Dart to start this week.
Serious?
Sources: Giants to bench QB Russell Wilson, start Jaxson Dart – ESPN
Yep.
Daboll has to shake it up or he is out…..
I said we didn’t catch anything yesterday, that wasn’t exactly true. Found these washed up on shore. Full pack of rescue blankets, still sealed in the package.
Laughing… nice catch!
Rescue blankets are one of those things that seem to be stuffed into these mass marketed bug out bags, etc…I can’t think of a time that I have ever been roped into helping out in a remote situation (aka our buddy just lost his footing and his ankle is swelled up real bad) that I have cried out, “Get me a rescue blanket, STAT!”
I think when someone is in shock, a rescue blanket can help. One of the treatments for shock is to cover a person to prevent chilling.
probably a way more useful catch than a fish
Seems almost ominous… did someone need rescuing and then not able to use these.
Did you hear about the 2 Colorado bow hunters that died a little bit ago?
I read about it, really sad. As an elk hunter yourself, what are your thoughts about these young lads that died. I heard the change in weather might have been a factor?
I guess they finished the autopsy yesterday and they were struck by lightning. They weren’t far from their vehicle, but it is easy to get turned around in the mountains, especially in the dark. I turned a 2 mile walk to my atv into 4 or 5 last week and would have ended up 2 miles from my atv if I didn’t have GPS.
I definitely was more wary about where I went and when last year since I was hunting alone. I made sure I was at least close to cell service more than I typically worry about as well. I have more experience in the mountains than most and have been in enough situations to know when to not push it and I have a healthy respect for the mountains. I also am always prepared to spend the night on the hill if I have to as well.
“a healthy respect for the mountains”. Gotta think like that. I live really close to the Mississippi River and enjoy what it has to offer, but I’ve said the same thing to my boys about it. Respect the mighty Mississippi, because it doesn’t matter how good a swimmer you are, lots of undercurrent.
My son hunts alone a lot in country I am not familiar with, he sands me a ping marking his location about every 10 minutes.
Was out all last week in the Pintler wilderness. Just enough service to see headlines of Vikes vs falcons, but articles wouldn’t download. By headlines thought the entire starting 22 were injured.
Nice. I need to get a Garmin InReach.
Any luck so far?
Got a raghorn Tuesday night.
Good deal, any elk with a bow is an accomplishment IMHO
I couldn’t be much happier. It’s only September and my freezer is full.
Wow, lightening strikes? I hadn’t heard that yet. I’m guessing GPS is a must have in the mountains.
It definitely makes a difference. It would have saved me a couple times when I didn’t have it in college. The problem is it becomes a crutch for too many. They just assume they will always have it and nobody knows how to read a map or topography anymore. What happens when your phone dies? I always have paper maps and pay attention to landmarks at all times so I know where I need to get to if things go sideways.
Good advice bow.
The other problem I see is flat landers coming out and looking at OnX or Google Earth and saying, oh, it’s only a mile and not understanding the terrain. One mile on flat Minnesota ground is not the same as 1 mile in the mountains with a 500+ foot elevation change. And the weather truly can change on a dime. I’ve been in 60 degree weather and within an hour or two had snowflakes falling.
Amen to the weather change. I can’t remember which trail, but I had hiked with the dog to a lake about 4 miles from the trailhead in the Beartooths. Sky was bluebird gorgeous, had skinned off my outer shirt and was just wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Sat down to eat my subway sandwich and it started clouding up, by the time I was done feeding the dog the scraps I had to bundle up as it was raining heavily…started hiking back around the lake when the flakes came fast and heavy. I wasn’t concerned until I realized the snow had made the trail invisible. Having the dog helped as he just followed the scent trail more or less downhill. But if I had waited another half hour to start back it could have been bad.
That sounds like Mystic. I woke up once in a tent for work. We started working and it started snowing. By 10 am it was a blizzard and by the time we made it the few miles out a few hours later, the snow was 18 inches deep.
I know it wasn’t Mystic, as I hadn’t (and didn’t) see another person that day. I was working my way through that Beartooth hike book. I was also the only vehicle at the trailhead.
I did have that Spot device so they would have found my body eventually haha.
Must have been up the pass then. There’s a couple I’ve been to from the Boulder, but they are longer hikes than that. There’s some really neat ones up the pass though. A couple I’ve always wanted to get to and haven’t. Maybe now that my kids are getting a little bigger I’ll be able to start hiking more a little, even though my youngest hates the thought of hiking.
I remember the dog sniffing the snow and looking at me, and saying, “Don’t look at me, partner, you are in charge.” Didn’t take too long until the snow turned into rain as I descended, maybe a mile.
I love it when your dog looks at you and you can just tell they’re thinking “this guy is an idiot”, but they follow you anyway.
Hunted for decades with USGS quads and compass.
Sadly, not many people would be able to read one of those anymore. It’s amazing how many people couldn’t even tell you what the dimensions of one of the squares on a USGS map are. Nobody understands what NAD83 is either or that if you take a waypoint from NAD83 and put it in a GPS or on a map that uses WGS84 you could have some serious issues.
Well, maybe not NAD83 to WGS84, but for sure NAD27 to WGS84.
They think it may have been a lightning strike.
Young hunters in Colorado died in ‘instant,’ coroner reveals
@so we could blame “climate change” for this??@
Yep, lighting never used to happen, now it is nearly a daily occurrence!
Exactly. It’s freakin crazy….
I posted these last night, thought I’d re-post today since it was late.
Total Skoloholics comment counts (haven’t figured out how to do this by year yet, only have total).

You guys blab a lot
Yeah, Lifer was last on in ’23 and evidently is still way ahead of me. Maybe once I retire I can catch up.
I have been slacking. My new stupid job has kept me too busy the last few years. Well, less than a year to retirement. Maybe then I can start to catch up.
I am obviously running my mouth entirely too much.
Top 5?? I didn’t even join this site until close to a year after it started.
I am skeptical about the validity of the data.
Probably put together by the CBO or the Labor dept.
LOL, nope, raw data.
Could have swore I deleted all my comments not that long ago.
I had over 100,000 at the Daily Norseman. I was REALLY bored at my corporate gig.
I wanna see a word count one now.
MT would have more than everyone else combined.
What are “subscriptions”?
If you hover over the wifi looking image to the right of a username, you can follow that user.
Used to be able to hide all comments from specific users. I actually used that one.
Ahhh sooo… I was wondering why I had so many subscriptions… I have accidently hit that wi-fi button a bunch of times, not even knowing what it does.
But there is a list for “following” and “followers”.
I still don’t get what “subscribers” are.
If you follow someone, you are now a subscriber and it will increase your subscriptions by +1
I could probably guess who that was in two guesses
to be fair, MT Vikings leads in characters used in said comments….
Speaking of characters, we need Ben to come back and do the thread recaps.
Hey, everybody, WE GOT KINER!
NLNVF, i’m trying to follow your message below, about the Ryder cup.
So the brits are playing for free and NOT donating any form of money.
while the americans are playing for 500k each AND donating 300k to charity?
In my opinion, the brits are the dopes and the americans are the more giving players.
on top of that, has it been reported that the americans said they WON’T play for free?
The PGA tour sponsors the Ryder Cup. The charity donations are from the PGA, not the players. The Europeans (not just the Brits) declined to be paid to play in the event, while the USA players gladly accepted the $200K.
The PGA could have simply said “we’re increasing our charitable donations to $300K per player this year” and not paid anyone. That would have been great. Instead, they added another $200K for each player, which the European team declined.
It’s not about the money, but what the money represents. You mean to tell me that if somebody offered you $200K to play golf for a weekend you would say no? That is totally illogical and disingenuous.
Laughing… no, if I was a multi millionaire, playing to represent my country in an exhibition match, I would decline to be paid, just like my opponents did. Sorry Bow… you lose again.
Sure…. They didn’t demand it. They were offered it. It’s the GM of the PGA’s fault, not theirs.
The Europeans declined the offer, so yeah, they had a choice. Try and keep up Bow.
So, the Brits played for less for the good of their country? Nice when people do that.
The European players are playing for pride, and not getting paid. I agree this is the right way to go.
That’s how Brady won all those championships.
He was also married to one of the richest (and most beautiful) women on earth.
Amy Schumer?
Sorry, that was the least beautfiul woman I could think of on short notice.
Except of course for a certain QB.
Your KDS is showing…
I’m not trying to hide it.
Why you are against athletes making money is beyond me.
At least you’re self aware…
You should try it sometime…
The fact you can’t see the wickedly ridiculous hypocrisy in your statements is astounding.
The fact that you make shit up like this between your ears and insist it’s reality, is what is astounding. Conflating football contracts with the Ryder Cup? That is ludicrous. Really.
Worrying about somebody getting paid to perform their profession when it has absolutely zero impact on the event is ludicrous.
I do think given the spirit of the event it will change the event some. But for whatever reason, someone brought football into this golf event.
Conflating two completely separate and totally unrelated circumstances is inane.
It’s not ludicrous to think players getting paid on one side for an exhibition event, where you are representing your country (or Continent for Europe) while the other plays for pride is fundamentally, and foundationally wrong.
Maybe the Europeans should pay their players then and make it fair.
Maybe not…
Not like the Americans getting paid directly affects their ability to field the best team possible. Big deal if they get paid.
Right, there’s no salary cap or anything like that.
I think they should refuse to play unless they are guaranteed a spot on next year’s team.
I don’t think it matters either.
I will still watch it.
I’m a golf addict and I want the pansy Euro’s to lose.
the US players have been bitching for years that they thought they should be compensated for playing in this event.
I think it’s more about long term security than getting paid for a single event.
So only the most successful golfers in the world get to play in the Ryder Cup. The guys winning tournaments, and making a ton of money. They have tens of millions of dollars in their bank accounts, and live like kings.
Yeah… long term… that’s a worry.
All the way back to David Duval…
Golf =/= Logic.
Then there’s this… grin.
Come on, NLNVF, those 20 great plays for every mistake he makes don’t outweigh his ineptitude. I mean, guy wouldn’t have a single touchdown if it weren’t for luck.
Yeah, I guess you’re right JRo… my bad.
That’s what I thought. Don’t even try to defend him. JJ and Theilen got those NFL records all by themselves! Could have been anyone throwing to them, including my grandpa.
And yet, he is still not good enough to start for the Falcons.
Highest paid backup since Watson.
Probably the most competent backup in the league, if you want to look at it that way. Better than many starters, but teams want to look to younger players, which is understandable. But look how Penix did on Sunday. 0 points. Perhaps Kirk should be starting.
Give it time the way their starter is playing.
4th highest paid NFL player of ALL time, and likely passing Brady in 2026.
“It’s not about the money, but what the money represents….”
He’s WAY better than Penix, so that comment “he is still not good enough to start for the Falcons.” is a misnomer Surly. Penix is completing just 58% of his passes, and has one of the lowest passer ratings in the league. The Falcons head coach seems to be devoted to Penix though, at the expense of playing a top shelf QB. Makes zero sense, but I’ve never thought Raheem Morris was NFL head coach material.
Raheem Morris does not seem competent to me. Look at how much he stares at the big screen during games. I don’t know if he manages the team so much as his coordinators do. I never see him talking and he is always staring at the sky.
He seems to seek the players “love” more than anything else. Note how he hugs the opposing teams players after a game, and talks to them. You’re right he doesn’t look like he is really leading the team.
Kirk is not good enough to start for the Falcons.
If he had played better last season, he would still be starting, or one of the many QB starved teams would have given ATL whatever they wanted for a good qb in a trade.
Kirk is pretty much done unless he gets paid to hold a rookies hand for a few games next season. Too many GMs have seen the Falcons/Vikings/Redskins waste time and money on Kirk.
He will probably make a decent announcer though.
I know it is never his fault.
But to most GMs, Kirk falls way short of what is needed to win at that position. Glad ATL got fooled enough to pay him vs having him still here.
We were better off with Sam, and we are now better off with JJ/Wentz/Brosmer.
Obviously the 32 GMs in the NFL are just stupid.
Hmmmm…
If he had played better last season, he would still be starting, or one of the many QB starved teams would have given ATL whatever they wanted for a good qb in a trade.
Cousins was playing great last year in a really bad scheme, and had just put up consecutive games with a passer rating of 145.9 and 144.8 when he was injured badly in the Saints game. Injuries to his throwing arm he was still recovering from 8 months later.
Penix is a big strong and even very fast athlete. He is an inept QB though. He had Pitts wide open for a TD early in the game, looked right at him, and didn’t throw the ball. That’s a throw Cousins makes every single time. There have been many more instances of this that folks are starting to highlight, and he has a completion rate of 58.3% with just 4 TD’s and 5 interceptions in 8 games. When Cousins is healthy, he sees and beats defenses. Period.
Penix is nowhere near the QB Cousins is.
And yet the coach and GM both know the team has no future with Kirk, but may have a future with Penix.
There you go. Two more people who have tied their career to the Kirk-wagon only to be let down.
Regardless of the inaness of the Falcons coaching staff and GM, Cousins is 10 times better (or more) at playing the position of QB in the NFL than Penix. It’s why Morris sucks as a head coach, and always has.
@never Kirk’s fault@
I would say Kirk is absolutely good enough to start for the Falcons and a handful of NFL teams at least, but from a financial perspective, it doesn’t make sense, and from a “getting younger” perspective and trying to find a new long-term QB, it doesn’t make sense either. So that’s where we are at with Kirk, from a realistic perspective.
It makes sense from a winning perspective, and winning football games is the reason the team exists.
i think thielen was even shocked he caught it haha
that was a good comeback
One of many “wow” throws and catches we’ve seen.
That doesn’t count – you have to take out the good throws (like when talking about AP, take out the long runs).
Big news!!!
Exactly
Didn’t the WR fall down or some such on that play?
Cousins lives rent free in his head forever.
Same for you.
HAHAHAHAHAHA… not even close… HAHAHAHAHA
Last week you had this little gem:
“Kirk gets some credit for that win because he ran the scout team at practice.”
Kirk Defender Syndrome at it’s finest.
I’ve never heard anybody ever say the scout team NFL backup quarterback getting credit for a game they never played in.
That was a thought that occurred to me after the fact, when our offense was completely shut down against the Falcons. To call a logical comment like that out as some indicator that I have Cousins on my mind all the time like you do, is only a further indication of the Kirk derangement syndrome you suffer from.
BTW, note that same defense that shut us down so completely, just gave up 30 points to the Panthers.
Wake up and smell the coffee.
That was so bad
lol. For every play like that there are 20 great highlights, but sure, looked like a bad pass. Can I see JJMac’s highlights of his shitty passes and sacks, please?
Ryder Cup week, and I have to say I’m unhappy with Keegan and the American team. They’re taking $200K each to play in the event, plus donating $300K of someone else’s money to the charity of their choice. The European players eschewed getting paid to play. They’re playing in the spirit of the competition. The Americans paying their players spoils it for me. Might not even watch now.
Didn’t know that. Looks cheap, not like these guys need the money. May not watch either.
200k is barely a pat on the back to those guys. Big whoop.
Exactly, take nothing and you look a hell of a lot better.
Multi, multi millionaires insisting they be paid to represent their country in a “friendly” competition? Then the competition says “nah, we’re not playing for the money, we’re playing for our side”.
You want to wear the red, white, and blue for your own profit? Galling. Keegan Bradley said “the PGA wanted to bring the Ryder Cup into the present day. The charity dollars hadn’t changed since 1999.”
I don’t care about the charity dollars, I care that in addition to raising the charity donations, they decided to pay the players as well. That is total BS.
Either play and represent your country proudly, or take a hike.
And then there’s the Euros have been beating the hell out of us lately cause their guys are more dedicated and tougher than ours.
Our guys are soft, and spoiled. Sure they’re great players. Sure they are competitors, but they don’t play for anything. They want all the attention, and the adoration, and the cheers. It’s an event where the crowds fawn all over them and treat them like Gods. That’s about it though. It’s clear they don’t play for this country with all their heart and soul. It’s clear it’s only about their own shallow desire to be celebrated by the masses.
I fell asleep so I missed all the repartee late last night. Sad that the Lions won.
QTD:
Will you all watch Kimmel tonight after Trump gave him his free speech back?
Who?
what?
where?
Why?
When?
Which?
How?
Trump never took his free speech away. The company Kimmel works for made a financial decision, and is caving in to pressure.
I do not agree with what the FCC said, but the proper response when told “we can do this the easy way, or the hard way” is to tell the person to @#$%^ off. I still think it was a financial decision, even after the threat.
Sad, since the pressure from the other side did not get Gino Cerano un-cancelled.
But no, I go to bed around 10 pm, and I do not think I have watched late night tv since Leno/Conan long ago.
Yep.
I used the sarcasm font.
Nope.
I’m viewing the whole thing through a money lens rather than a political lens. Kimmel is not a major draw for ABC. They saw this as a good opportunity to bounce him, but things aren’t that easy these days with social media. Their stock took a hit. Now they can bring Kimmel back and see if the publicity equals boosted viewership and gets the stock back up. Then revisit the issue in January when his contract is up.
I suspect his viewership will boost some, but those viewers will probably realize he isn’t worth their time to actually watch him over the long haul. Then his viewership will go back to pre-controversy levels. Maybe even lower if he lost some of his faithful.
Maybe I’m wrong. I don’t care. The Kimmel Show sucks. I would think ABC could get better viewership airing reruns of The Big Bang Theory in that time slot.
100%.
My post was sarcasm.
Yep, I got the sarcasm. No worries there.
One other wrinkle is that it sounds like affiliates will still refuse to air him, though. I wonder how that will turn out.
It certainly is a kerfluffle. But Kimmel definitely didn’t learn anything if Gavin Newsome is his guest for his return. Sounds like he will double-down and make everything about Trump even though he was the one shooting his mouth off.
ABC will probably pay him a billion dollars just to go away at this point.
Likely.
The affiliates making that choice are most likely in flyover country.
I used to work in local television, and some times the local affiliate chooses a show that plays in their region over what the Network offers. It’s nothing new.
And if I were to ever watch Kimmel, it might be tonight just to see the TDS squirting from their veins.
Penny is hawt
more evidence
Yeah… no. Honestly, I’ve never watched his show, so, no change.
I didn’t watch him before… so no. lol. It’s very possible this whole thing was to build relevance back up for him tbh. Cancel him, get the media all stirred up and such and then bring him back. Watch his numbers be better than ever for a while. I’ll be honest I don’t even know exactly what he said that got him put on pause.
Yep, no such thing as bad publicity!
How is your blood pressure doing?
Good man! Thanks for asking. My weight is back up a 10-15 pounds since I started lifting again but a good deal of that is muscle. Like shirts are much tighter on my arms and shoulders but pants fit the same lol. Bought myself my first adult bike this summer so instead of running 3 times a week I run 2 and bike one. Still doing DDPY 5-6 times a week. I have been scaling back a little on my meds, I bought a pill cutter and doing half dosages on something I am already doubled up on and no change after weeks, and then I halfed another one with a very slight change. I want to know what the minimum is so I am not maxed on this shit forever. I mean I still have been in the 120s. Band is playing Lincoln next weekend among other shows booked. Life is good! How about you?
Nice. Glad to hear the health is still going good.
I keep on keeping on. Nothing too unusual.
I am working my way through the Annihilator albums. I never listened to them back in the day. I kind of like this one…
Oh man, Annihilator rules. and all we can do is keep on keepin on haha.
You should try the song Russian Roulette from SouthGang. See what you think.
Glad to hear you’re progressing! I wasn’t aware you were having issues.
2 years ago I pissed blood one morning… couldn’t get in to the doctor (Probably should have just went to the ER but you know, I had work and shit and they didn’t have any openings lol). So when I did get into my usual Doc a day later there was no signs of blood in my pee but I did have a blood pressure reading in the 200s… so that was a lot of fun lol.
I’m assuming they did a workup for gross hematuria (I seem to remember you telling us they did) and didn’t just treat the hypertension.
I don’t think they did because there was zero sign of blood. Event he day it happened, it was a lot, once. Then every piss after that was slightly less. So who knows? Basically since other than the blood in stool which had gone away and I was operating well. Like at the time doc was like, “What did you do yesterday?” I was think I had run like a mile and half (wasn’t up to my 5Ks and such then). And he was like any dizziness or anything. Which I had none, like everything was operating fine so just started me on low dose blood pressure meds and we slowly went up over time until it got to where it was supposed to be.
I have peed blood after a run before. That can be a thing. Maybe it was just a weird confluence.
Really? Interesting.
No
Well, currently 62 ABC affiliates will not be airing his show…might be difficult to watch him for many.
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!
The Ravens let the Lions win one, last night. Too many mistakes by the Ravens.
FTP Auto Rec.
Harvest is gearing up. Combine that with the morning games on Sunday and the bye, and I won’t be seeing a Vikings game for a good month or more.
But there is YouTube now. And message boards. Live games are almost an after-thought at this point in the tech curve!
Sorry you will miss out.
I love the morning games. Certainly easier on me than the night games.
Just more football. 8:00 am to 10:30 PM there is football the next few weeks every Sunday.
I like the 3 p.m. game the best. I usually just want to take a nap around 1 p.m. on a Sunday, so I am often zonking out at halftime of the noon games.
I also like the Sunday night game. I usually watch a lot of that no matter who is playing. Except for Collinsworth. He’s really gotten bad. He was good when he first started. I imagine the network notes turned him into the blathering mouthpiece he is now.
I completely agree on Collinsworth, I think he was very good when he started. I am not sure if it is just him realizing it is best not to upset anyone, or if Al Michaels ruined him.
I usually listen to music while having the evening games on, or the Manning Cast. While their shtick is getting old, it is still much better than Joe Buck.
Clooninsworth molests collies
Are you able to listen to the radio broadcast while harvesting?
nothing better than hearing PA say “and he’s LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE”
Or the classic…..
“…the kick is up !!!…it’s GOOD !!!!!!!!….oh wait, it’s no good…..”
Man, that one sucked.
Yes, I listen to the games on the radio if I am in vehicles when the games are on.
I kind of enjoy that. Listening to games on the radio while out and about is one of those things that gets lost to time.
Pun intended?
Happy Tuesday,
Been a very busy week already. Working on getting my CWI certificate, have a week long seminar, where they cram a semesters worth of learning into a 6 day week and then test on Saturday.
Good luck!
I always preferred that kind of training, with testing right at the end.
Your brain will hurt, but I think it is best to test right away.
Good luck!
What is CWI?
Central Wisconsin?
Crime with Intent?
Curly Wiggly Insect?
Corn Weed Inspector?
Counting while intoxicated
I came up with some more. I obviously need something else to do.
Crazy Woman Inspector?
Crazy Woman Instructor?
Corporate War Initiator?
Cold War Imitator?
Certified Wanker Inflator
Certified weld inspector
Counting Under the Influence?
That warms my heart.
He leaves no room for doubt
Yep. Poor Kirko….
He could be enjoying the “Short timer syndrome” I see people in the corporate world get. Once they have decided to retire, there is not really any stress in them, and they are just looking forward to what is next.
Kirko does seem like a really good guy. He will end up either getting traded to someone that needs a QB, or maybe end up in Miami next season with whomever the new coach is, to play while they work with the rookie they draft.
It looks like Russel Wilson is this season’s Kirk (Overpaid vet that does not deliver)
I bet Kirk will hang around a long time, Steve DeBerg-style.
As long as he keeps getting guaranteed millions, he will hang on for sure.
