Almost there, just another day until another glorious summer (close enough) weekend. Does anyone have any grilling or smoking (cooking on the smoker, not smoking dope) plans for the weekend? I have these huge chunks of northern to cook. We made some of it on the grill the other day, and it was really good. I’ve heard that northern on the smoker is good, too, but have never tried it. If anyone has any tips/tricks/recipes for that, please share.
Wow, another death shook the NFL yesterday, as former RB Marion Barber was found dead in his home, per SI.com. He was only 38 years old, far too young. There still is no official word on the cause of death, but Barber had been struggling in the years since his retirement. It’s sad, they need to do more for NFL players who are struggling with mental health issues, because it sure seems like they don’t do much for them now.

Short answer: I sell used books on-line. I kind of specialize in older, out of print books, but I have something for everyone (maybe). I’m really small potatoes as my available for sale inventory is only around 5000 books. I still have another 7 or 8 thousand books in boxes to go through and am always on the lookout for more. It’s a lot of fun for me (nerd) but it is not a livable wage right now. My wife needs to be a better sugar momma.

Yesterday was a good day for my wife to pop in and visit.
In carving out this position the regional team let me define which sites I read for, so essentially I can look at the annual volumes of studies and mix and match. While in theory that should make me in control of my destiny, radiology studies seldom arrive in sequential fashion. So I always say about 10% of the time I am slow, 50% of the time I am riding the wave and staying just in front of things, 35% of the time the traps are full and I am hopping, and 5% of the time I am buried. One reason radiology is desirable from a lifestyle and remuneration standpoint is you are very productive as you don’t have to wait to room a patient or (very often) have a long discussion about what is wrong with them.
We were at the 11th hour for getting the paperwork done for closing tomorrow. I told the title company that we had to have the paperwork by 2 pm on Wednesday to have a reasonable hope that it would reach them in time for closing. Well they waited until 1:55 pm. Not only was I staring at a 3pm wrist arthrogram and 3:30 drain placement but I was buried, with a combination of high acuity and complex studies clamoring to be read. I printed off the paperwork and of course the notary public that I lined up had to run a family member to a doctor’s appointment. So when my wife got here at 2 pm I was 15 studies deep, and in short order in comes a surgeon (go operate on this), urologist (go remove that) and a neurologist (stroke) and the phone is ringing for results and questions from technologists around the state looking for protocol advice. It was bananas and I was hanging on by a thread.
I enlisted her to start making phone calls to track down a notary and figure out how to package for UPS red…got one of the notaries to come to my office and got the paperwork signed, then she headed down to purchasing to hand the envelope to the UPS guy. It got there this morning.
She obviously appreciated my efforts as she texted multiple times worried I was going to stroke out and greeted me when I got home with a snifter of Bulleit bourbon. After supper I chillaxed by mowing the acreage and tossing a ball for the choco.
All in all a busy yet productive day. I will be happy if the house sale closes though.

Brad, you could try fish tacos with your northern. That’s what I do sometimes. Couple of pointers, don’t make the fish too wide or thick. Shredded cabbage/carrots. I’ve heard pickled red onions go great. I’ve probably had them that way at restaurants, but don’t remember. I’ve never pickled them (but I’ve read it’s easy). Fry the taco shells in a little bit of neutral oil until lightly brown but still pliable. My go to sauce is mayo, srirachi, and maple syrup. More mayo than srirachi/maply syrup. Make a little at first in case you don’t like it. Add one or the other until you like the taste. I’ve never substituted those 3 with miracle whip, different hot sauce, or maple flavored syrup, so I can’t speak to the taste of those substitutions. Or you could go with your favorite style of coleslaw and skip my mayo/srirachi/maple syrup sauce.

It does sound weird. But it is my go to for BLT’s, fish tacos, and chicken sandwiches. The thicker the maple syrup, the better. Otherwise it can be a bit runny. But the right combo is important and probably specific to a person’s taste. I typically mix it with shredded lettuce or cabbage and add it to that way to keep it from running too much.
I mix mayo (usually olive oil mayo), sriracha, and spicy mustard for all my sandwiches and stuff like that. I don’t need the syrup, I’m sweet enough as it is.
