There were a lot of upsets yesterday, and a lot of crazy endings. I watched/listened from the lake to most of them, so I got the best of both worlds. Yikes, my pick-em league thingy looks like ka-ka. I’m sitting here now watching the Bears lose one to the Packers, bleh.
The Vikings take on the Eagles tonight on Monday Night Football. It’s the dreaded late game, and I dislike the late Monday night game. I always have flashbacks to the season opener in 2015 when the promising Vikings looked horrible against the 49ers. People lost their minds, but the Vikings managed to win the division that year. Memories. For tonight, I like the Vikings’ chances against the Eagles, although I think it’ll be a hard battle. Lots of Cook & Mattison, and the passing game will be dealing with another strong pass defense again this week, so they’ll have to be up to the task, especially on the O-line. If the offense can perform and avoid turnovers like they did against Green Bay, I like their chances. SKOL!!!!!!

Depends on weather, road conditions, hills, etc. Under perfect conditions, I think you’ll get 300 miles. In North Dakota in the winter, probably under 100.

Have you ever read about hypermilers? It is kind of a fun dive into random Internet stuff. Hypermilers are people OCD about gas mileage and use all these tricks to up their miles per gallon. Like folks are getting 84 miles a gallon with their trucks. They shift into neutral when going downhill. They shut their car off at stoplights. They draft trucks.
Anyway, a dude got 1000km out of a single charge on a Tesla once by doing hypermiling tricks. Impractical, of course, but interesting.

The comment from food critic five below about Pizza Ranch reminded me of something.
I’m no big spender like five or kodiak but for a good cause I’ll pry open my wallet. My stepdaughter smart girl did the planning for the all 90’s class reunion in town this past weekend and came up with a fundraising idea for the school art department. Had all the artsy types donate items and then held a silent auction with all proceeds going to the art department. The art department does murals around town so really a win win for everyone.
The marquee item was a buffalo print from Amber Blazina. She does wildlife prints that I have seen sold for $25 big ones or more in the Boz Angeles and Jackson Hole areas. If you’ve ever been to Jackson you know there are some deep pockets fivefingers like boyos there.
So the silent auction bid had reached $2000. It was a nice piece. My stepdaughter decided in all fairness since there were several vultures lurking about that it should become a live auction item. Meanwhile, my wife overheard a couple of ladies saying, “oh Mrs. MT is bidding on that item, so I’m not going to…” My wife was upset, didn’t want to bid any more because someone might really want it but not be able to afford it. Fuck that.
Opened the bidding and I could just see the 2010…2015…etc bids start rolling in. Barked out $2500. Done.
I’m never going to feel guilty that we busted our asses to achieve our dreams.

I lived in Beijing for a year. Loved the city, but the pollution was rough. You could feel in the back of your throat when you woke up that it was going to be a bad pollution day.
I heard they would shoot rockets up into the sky on those days to make it rain. The pollution would then be gone the next day.
Probably shaved a few weeks off your life expectancy living in that smog.
that reminds me – what’s something most of us do that shortens our lifespan and is relatively easy to stop doing? should I drink more? swear at the TV more? I’m open to nearly anything so long as I enjoy it.
Well, I think of simple things like taking care of your teeth, socializing, having a positive outlook, having a loving life partner, not being sedentary, you know stuff like that.

No. I think I’ve seen lottsa mozza but not regularly. I actually graduated HS where Heggies are made now. Pretty cool story for the guy. He started the company making pizzas in his garage. Some day they’ll make it out here. We actually had some at a wedding in Dubois, WY last winter. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the sign. Turned out the owner of the resort is from MN and brings a bunch out for the winter season. After the wedding he was going back to MN so he sold me the pizzas he had left cheap.

I was outright against physician-assisted suicide when I was younger and perfectly healthy. Now that my mother assigned me as the person making medical decisions for her at/near the end (and NOT my sister – who would prolong her life until we were all broke), it’s made me look at unplugging a person on life-support differently, and, by extension, related issues like some sort of guided/aided suicide when a person is chronically uncomfortable and beyond retrieving a decent quality of life.
That’s really too complicated to answer in a comprehensive fashion given the philosophical and professional entanglements. I don’t know if even after discussion in person for an hour that I would have a straight answer. I do know that most providers want their patients to be comfortable at the end of life.

I deal with Seventh Day Adventists a lot. They make diet part of their “gospel,” and the serious ones keep the Jewish dietary laws in mind and try to eat vegetarian because that was the Garden of Eden diet. They often point to their longevity and “blue zones” as proof that their doctrines are correct, and that their “prophet,” Ellen White was divinely-inspired.
Another guy, (yes, this is heresy), was talking to one of their officials at Loma Linda, and he admitted that as long as a person doesn’t smoke or get habitually drunk, there is not much difference in longevity between SDAs and regular folk.
Sad story a while back where a mother and father only fed their kids vegan raw fruits and vegetables. One of the kids, too young, died from malnutrition. Now mom is in prison.
I saw that, too. Some folks really take that vegetarian stuff seriously and get some militant ideas.

Upon more research, I saw Ellen White once wrote that if parents fed their kids eggs, they would awaken their kids’ sexual desires. Also, some day eggs would be come unsafe to eat, etc. She had a lot of that sort of thing, like mustard will make your blood impure and so forth.

when you bet on a team with a point spread, it means you’re betting on that team winning if they add or subtract the point spread to the final score.
So if the Vikings are favored by 6, you either bet on the Vikings winning by at least 7, or on the Vikings losing, tying, or winning by 5 or fewer points.

What do I need to look out for by the scammers?
Is it a zero turn or a lawn tractor?
I would definitely want to take it for a spin around the yard, make sure the blade clutch works. Feel the belts, make sure they’re tight (although a belt change is pretty easy DIY project) or use that to dicker on the price. Check the oil, color, smell.

I have a Cub Cadet, probably a 2014 model & I love it. Mine isn’t a zero-turn, just a 46″ with a 22 hp Kohler. I really like it, though. They’re all pretty much made by the same place anymore, with the exception of Toro & John Deere. MTD makes almost all of the rest.
Mine’s a Toro. 18hp. I got it cheap and it runs great, starts east.
I had to pull the deck off and do some adjusting this spring as the belt is getting a little loose, but I have the replacement hanging on the wall of the garage. I’ll swap it out in the fall or winter, I think.

I’ve had to replace my belt a couple times. Never go with the cheap option. It was my only choice one time, lasted a couple months. I order them ahead of time now.
Husquvarna is an easy one to maintain on your own
As the son and grandson of John Deere dealership owners and having used riding mowers for my job in high school, can confirm.
I can drop the deck on my Cub Cadet in a few minutes now. First couple times took longer, but once you do it a time or two, it’s pretty easy.
That’s why I adjusted instead of replacing – couldn’t find a belt that didn’t need a couple weeks to arrive.
No…on both my zero turn and my SCUT (small tractor) with MMM (mid mount mower) there is a button you pull up to engage the blade. Basically a little yellow electrical switch that engages the clutch of the belt drive or PTO depending on whether a ZTR or lawn tractor and starts the blades turning. A lot of times that switch can go bad, again a relatively easy DIY fix, but you want to make sure the blades work if you’re negotiating.

Random MT story follows…the guy that works with epoxy all the time came out and gave me a bunch of tips. told me what commercial product to use, etc…He said “You’re going to want a respirator”. He also suggested I clean up some grease and tire tracks on the floor with some biodegradable orange peel stuff from Conmat. I swing by Conmat, get the orange stuff, ask if they have respirators, of course they do. Funny part was the guy said those respirators are expensive, if I were you I would just use the paper N-95 mask, they’re only a buck. Well, occupational experience has taught me that while an N-95 might stop someone from giving me TB I can certainly smell the revolting abscess that I am draining despite such an impervious mask. So I paid the $60 for the respirator.
Boys, I am here to tell you that if I didn’t wear that respirator the VOCs would have me on the UNOS list for lung transplant. To think there are people stupid enough to apply that shit without a VOC respirator. The smell was overpowering even standing outside on the driveway.

Vikings got good pressure against GBs backup oline at home, which is mostly why their pass defense was good. Playing on the road against Philly will be different and their meh CBs will likely be exposed to an extent. If the dline can keep Hurts in the pocket and make him throw from there as opposed to him breaking the pocket and making plays off script, it gives the Vikings a better chance at success defensively, but that’s easier said than done and requires discipline. I expect a good game and hope the Vikings can pull one out of their arses on the road in a tough environment.

Alright in FF, very poorly on the mountain. Saw a lot of elk last weekend but there was nothing this weekend. Too many out of staters walking around sounded like wounded geese trying to call elk in, all from ND, MN and WI of course. One guy was archery hunting elk with blaze orange on. Pretty sure that was the cheesehead.
That would be painful. I had a lot of close calls last weekend, but the elk seem to have been pushed to the private now by the dumb dumbs.

Had a productive week off, glad to be back at work so I can recuperate. Took the RV to the big smoke (Billings) and set a surgery date for my wife, RV had a propane leak that I couldn’t localize so guessed correctly and switching out the regulator which fixed the issue (that was the most difficult simple project I’ve tackled in a while), sighted in the beta 6.5 CM, put down two coats of SW Armorseal HS epoxy on shop floor, moved some cows, pulled fence posts, got posts cut for the new fence to be put in next weekend. Best of all got my boat out on the river a half dozen times and about six last night had the right combination of location, crankbait, light, temperature and voodoo and started seeing big fish arcs on my $1000 fishfinder. We had four poles out and started getting multiple hits, filled the live well with 10 walleye or sauger within ten minutes and then started swapping out small ones for bigger ones. Ended up with 10 nice keepers about 17-20 inches. Was the most fun I’ve had with my clothes on for a while.

Anyway, I usually work from home on Mondays but had to go in today as we have a few people down with the flu. So I switched my home office day to Tuesday which will enable me to get a few hours of sleep now, set the alarm clock to 02:15 and enjoy the game in the fine and distinguished company of my fellow skolholes.
Then I´ll brew a big pot of coffee, fire up the office laptop at 07:00 and will (mostly pretend to) work from home the rest of the day.

Which 0-2 teams should panic the most?
Bangles have played two of the worst teams in the NFL, and they are 0-2. I think they should be the most worried. I expected them to have a letdown year, but they look really bad.

Raiders are worrisome to me. With that tough division… going down 0-2 early is not good.
Titans are kind of a surprise, but maybe they bounce back. The AFC south looks horrible so they might be able to rally.
