Wow, here’s a summary of that game.
I have nothing more. Oh wait, yeah I do. The punter looked good, so did the coverage units. Oh, and I suppose we’re tied for first in the division, so yippy friggin skippy. Oh, and now Harrison Smith is out with a concussion, link courtesy of CBS Sports. Ugly game. I feel dirty having watched it. Yuck. It’s week two, and there’s a LONG season to go. Buckle up, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride. NOW I have nothing more.

If they get curb stomped by the kitty’s then all bets are off but it’s a divisional game teams know each other likely a rock fight. I could see us at 4-2 best case 3-3 worse case. If they’re 2-4 fuck’em I’ll be ready to cuck, buck and bail on the season.
Lions will be a loss. Taints in Limeyville, loss. Dabares we have a chance so unless we really stink it up, we win. Fins will kill us. 2-4 into the bye and then the next chance we have to win is the jets.
I already told everyone not to panic unless we lose to lions. It was an L before the season kicked off playing eagles. We haven’t lost a game we should’ve won yet.

Reality we should begin to accept is this is a rebuilding year. Not as much of one as some would like but a blow up would have resulted in likely losing top young guys when its time to pay and keep them. My guess Cook, Cousins, Harry, Thielen will all be gone in the next two yrs so there will be time and money to bring in the players they want to build it the way they want plus two drafts. Team will be much different with a new QB.
100% disagree. It’s a two year window right now. Doesn’t work out then its full on rebuild.

Irv can still be good, it’s week two. He needs to get his head out of his ass, though. The entire offense was off last night. Also, why stop giving the ball to Cook? He only got 6 carries. One of the best RB in the league, and you give him 6 carries?
Yeah the game plan going in was bad, when it didn’t work they overreacted and it took them out of their entire game plan. Then the adjustments were bad. It was all bad. Simply got out coached and our players fell apart in the process. Feels more like this is a 9-7 team but there’s always a chance to play better and find some things that make you more competitive. We’ll see but not holding out much hope.
I think little KOC was fixated on Smith. It ain’t going to work out well, when you take passes away from 700, 800, 1400 yard receivers to give to Smith.
He dropped 3 passes I counted, two the DB’s hands were in there but he does nothing with his body, which is what a TE is supposed to do, to shield out the DB. Irv sucked.

A lot of fantasy is about targets and last night was encouraging with the opportunities he’s getting. Had he caught the one he dropped he probably scores and its a massive points night for him. Too early to give up on him but damn it man get your shit together.

Inside the 30 last night, Kirk was 2/9 with 3 interceptions. There’s no way to look at that and say he didn’t have a bad game. He was horrible. Looked like a scared chihuahua out there. Pretty sure he peed himself twice. When he’s like that, they need to give him a shot or two of tequila. I’m not kidding. You could see it on his face, he had that Beavis face where he’s all tense. No reason for it, either. The O-line held up pretty well, they were one of the few bright spots, against a strong pass rush. Can’t have that.

Let me put this one partly on the GM and coach:
1) Take away his Rudy as the top Red Zone target.
2) Take away his Thielen as his top Red Zone target.
3) Give him a nobody, like Smith.
I don’t get that, I guess. He has JJ, AT, KJ at times, Cook, lots of options. It seemed like he either forced it into something that wasn’t there, or just made bad throws at times. He had a few nice throws, too, but you can’t make that many bad throws. Also, maybe consider not throwing at Slay.
Personal preference, based on a thousand years of playground football and jump-ball basketball, that probably means nothing.
If I’m looking to the end zone, I want a big guy/Gronk that I can see, and who I know who can go up for the ball, not a hundred guys all shorter than the linebackers covering them in traffic. Playing basketball, you don’t pass to a short guy in the middle unless you want him clobbered, you want the guy who can go up and get it.
That’s why it was weirder than crap that he barely looked at Thielen in the Red Zone and was fixated on Cook. How was he going to thread that needle?
The playcall ending up in a pick with JJ was weird. We’re all used to end zone leaps by Thielen over the top of someone or corner fades or whatever. JJ slant/crossing route into traffic in short yardage? Who does that? Even JJ seemed like his body instinctually knew it was better to head to an open area.
Saw a video the other day of passes being caught before the rule change when the receivers would get laid out going across the middle like lifers wife w/a troop ship in. It was glorious. Too bad they took that part of the game away.

Right? There’s no excuse for that performance. I understand that there were drops, which is on the receivers, but the horrible decisions and, at other times, lack of decision, stalled the offense. The coaching was bad, too, but Kirk was the weakest link out there.
Correct, look at the two sacks, he stood there for five seconds in the pocket and didn’t get rid of the ball, JJ was partly responsible for one of the picks, but it could have been as many as 5 picks if Philly cbs could catch. Burn the tape and move on to Detroit.

The offense was average in the first game, far below average in the second, hopefully they can find their groove against the Lions, who are looking much better than they have in previous years. I was actually thinking about that 2015 game against SF a lot last night, felt very similar.
Except we were a much younger team on defense..we still have some of those players..7 years later.
IDK, probably pretty similar overall, that defense had Newman, Greenway, Dejo, B-Rob all starters at around or over 30 y/o (well over 30 for Newman)

Told you guys Irv sucks. Has done nothing for the team and drops balls in critical situations. Hard to see. I mean, everyone has those from time to time, but I’ve had some burned in my mind with him in the past (esp. 3rd down drops), along with no separation. Yet, everybody has been saying he’s a weapon and he’s the answer. He’s not.
And a couple comments about Kirk – yes he sucked yesterday. But had his team not had terrible drops, the game would have been much closer and he probably wouldn’t have had to force some bad balls to try to score and save time. It’s easy to say he sucked, but if they were within 7-10 points, he doesn’t throw several of those balls that are picked or were almost picked. That doesn’t necessarily excuse some throws, but when you’re down 3 scores with limited time you have to chuck and hope to an extent. But maybe not to Slay’s area…
Defense was good enough to win (obviously not great, esp. 1st half when Eagles were trying), with a blocked kick and interception. Over the past several years, every time the Vikings get a turnover, I often say out loud “they better get in the end zone, or they won’t score here”, and often times, I’m right. If Hicks or Boyd runs those back, different game obviously (though they can’t be expected to score). I thought I was more confident in KOC turning those into points, but no. Playcalling was BAD. Maybe some runs? Maybe some quick slants? Good grief, I thought we had a guru. Too much confidence last week and a reality check is good for everyone.
Yeah Irv sucks. Kirk sucked. It all sucked, except the ST and second half defense.
I’m not buying the 2nd half defense was good. Isn’t it more likely they just didn’t try as hard and scheme as aggressive in the 2nd half?

I don’t know if the Eagles players were letting their foot off the gas but the coaches didn’t seem to, they were still throwing the ball midway through the 4th quarter and Hurts got picked off, not that it mattered cause Kirk threw a pick right back but I was kinda surprised they were throwing that late in a blowout.

Yeah, not trying to give him a pass. Just saying desperation plays when down a bunch with limited time made him look worse. I don’t think he makes a lot of those throws/errors if Irv catches his perfect pass and scores (no credit for that or those several to Theilen by the way) or the defense doesn’t give up 21 points immediately. Desperation makes anyone look worse.
He also missed a few reads on wr’s wide open when he checked down. He throws a damn screen pass when the guy has 4 guys within 2 yards of the rb. Those are things you shouldn;t be doing with his experience. Always going to be excuses, nobody in the GM seat would excuse those mistakes though.
Agreed. Im kinda glad, I hope Kwesi isnt a blinded by the rubes that Rick was. I hope performances like these open his eyes that we need to focus on drafting a young stud and be willing to gamble.
It really depends on the money grubber wolves. If the task was “win a Owl or you’re fired” they would go get a qb

If you draft high it’s easier to hit. The top guys go top 6 usually and it’s too hard to jump over 8 spots to try to get up there and if you d you lose a ton of draft capital.
So on one hand, “you have to draft a guy”, but it’s also hard if you don’t have a top 6 pick, and you’d have to give up a ton of draft capital to do it if you don’t have a bad record. Almost like it’s a tough situation to manage and no easy solution? I mean, I guess you could sacrifice a ton of capital on a gamble, but you seem to be against that argument here. What exactly is your plan if that doesn’t seem like the right option? Tank with someone for a year?
yeah, bascially do the rebuild. You don’t always have to do a full rebuild though. If I was running the team I would have traded beaker and for sure not extended him. I would have moved Harry before last year, likely traded Hunter although the injury makes that harder. Maybe cook too. Then, you have draft capital and you roll with Baker or the like.
Yeah, it might come to that, otherwise it’s this middle-of-the-road stuff. Take our lumps and move on, hoping we don’t win too many games. Hard to be a fan of that, though, hoping it’s temporary and you hit on your pick. But maybe that’s better than this.

If you draft a good young qb you may not be Owl level year 1 but you can still have optimism that you are building a Owl level team. Right now, we are in no man’s land and when you do that (thx wreck) you never get any better

Niners gave up a ton for a shit qb. Yes, you need to rebuild, as in get the draft capital you can and rebuild your team. Otherwise you set nfl records for mediocrity as PPB posted earlier.

Kirk is the worst QB in the league and will never ever win a game again. Is that more like it? Good grief, go ahead and do better yourself. Or maybe use your time machine to show us who the next Mahomes will be and we can trade or tank for him. QB’s suck sometimes – I admitted Kirk was very bad. Just saying his stats were even worse due to game situation towards the end and his receivers sucking.
the “it could be worse” argument doesn’t really hold water at all imo. You have to draft a guy. We never do and the last time we did was Teddy and we had some success.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying he wasn’t terrible and we shouldn’t have a plan for new QB. I just think desperation leads to bad throws/decisions, and had the game not been out of hand, I don’t think he looks quite so bad. But what’s the difference between bad and very bad when you’re losing? I just think the guy could use a break. He doesn’t seem to get much credit for wins and when he’s bad, he gets crucified. He’s not going to put the team on his back to win a lot of games, we all know that. But he’s human and if several other facets of the game don’t go our way, are we going to win that game anyway? Probably not. He’s good enough for now. We do need a replacement, but we can win with him if the rest of the team and coaches pull their heads out of their butts.
And before you say it, yes he is overpaid.
I just get frustrated with “It’s all Kirks fault”. You know who else had a bad game? EVERY OTHER PLAYER.

The qb has the most influence on the team by far and makes more than twice the next guy. There is no reason to have a top paid qb when you have nary a chance to compete. Most of the top paid qb’s are on playoff level competing teams.
True, he is overpaid, as I stated in another post trying to head off this one lol. But I don’t see anyone crapping on JJ for a poor route that caused one pick and he could have easily looked back sooner or made more effort to knock that pass in the end zone away from Slay. He half-assed it and/or misjudged it IMO. Obviously he is paid a lot less, but everyone needs accountability.

My reading comprehension is fine, in fact I can read between the lines. “Yes he sucked…But” No…no buts, WRs drop passes, you cant fold mentally because of that and start staring down WRs and not going through reads and underthrowing passes in the RZ. Yeah, but with 7 minutes left you kinda need points fast and I think some of the throws were a result of that. Obviously he doesn’t have the poise of Brady or Rodgers and can seemingly come back from anything, but he’s not Nathan Peterman 4 int’s per game, either.

He’s a 16 or 17 quarterback. League average at best.

Id take 12-13 over him for either skill/cap it wise or both. He’s no where near 10 in non statistical categories.

You either need a power running back who has massive leg strength and can move the pile

First Dems need to stop inviting people in illegally and saying we left the back door open. If you want to immigrate, that’s fine and you are welcome, but use the front door.

Instead of pouring millions or billions into border crossings right away we should put money towards tracking and keeping a finger on top of legal visas so they can’t overstay. That will push people to try and come in at a higher percentage over the border as the high percentage coming in via overstaying visas then we continue to ramp up border crossing stuff as well. Again, I have yet to see a wall that isn’t easily defeated. The only way this makes sense is to have the wall and have lots of people patrol the wall to find where people have have easily defeated the wall and then pay people to fix how they defeated the wall… might as well just skip the middle man wall and put people there to begin with.

A wall is not ineffective. You don’t see all that many people crashing a million walls around the world.
If it cuts down even a quarter of the people wandering over the border, then it has done it’s job, and the cost savings to the USA is tremendous, and a Wall is just of fraction of what is incurred over time.
Sure, a person of physical means can defeat the Wall, but very few of them can carry a poor kid or pregnant woman over with them.
The second thing the Wall does is allow many more people to be caught near the wall, because it slows them down and vehicles can haul in large loads of them, unlike now, where they can wander in unvetted for hundreds of miles. This is millions and millions of people.

But I remember Penn and Teller one time hiring a group of illegal immigrants to build a section of Bush’s wall exactly to specs he had laid out. It took all day for this group to build one little section. They then broke the group into small groups and had a race. One group was to go under, one to go through, and one to go over. It was literally minutes for all the groups to defeat the wall. I am all for border security but it needs to be in a way that is effective.

I might be addicted to true crime stuff all of a sudden. I am binging on listening to police interrogations of murder suspects and Chris Hanson’s To Catch A Predator.
There’s just something fascinating about people trying to lie/squirm their way out of big trouble while the interrogator keeps tightening the noose.
I like the “figure it out” part of true crime and other mysteries, but I don’t like it if the crimes are too gory/creepy or anything where a kid gets hurt.
Yes, it is hard to stomach the actual crimes. That’s the reason I don’t like reality-based horror movies either.
The interrogations can be riveting, though. The Catch A Predator ones are sometimes mind-boggling the way the criminal tries to put together a story that they hope sounds believable. Like one guy said he bussed three hours, then walked five miles to arrive at a house at 11 p.m. for a job interview.

I have a feeling the better plan week 1 was cuz he knows LaFleur better from working together. Just a theory but I think they had a much better guess what the Packers would do than they did with the Eagles. It’s early in the season so every team is still figuring things out. With a rookie HC and all new coaching staff it will take a little while. Even Belichek looks at the first 4 weeks of the season as a continuation of preseason to a point. If the same issues continue into October and November (as a trend and not just one stinker of a game that all teams eventually have), then there’s a problem.
