Curiosity killed me. Decided to watch the “playoff” game between the Philadelphia Stars and the New Jersey Generals. New Jersey went 9-1 in the regular season. They lost 19-14 and one of their TD’s was on a punt return. Just really bad football. I can see now how Sloter made the “All USFL” team. In 9 games he threw 9 TD’s and 11 interceptions and completed just 57.7% of his passes. Yet he thinks this shows he deserves another shot in the NFL. He’s playing tonight at 8 p.m. I think I’ll watch the first half for shits and grins.

Rory just can’t quite seem to put four solid rounds together. He shoots 62 in the first round, and 72 today. Course is a par 70. Went from contending to buh-bye. Seems he either smokes it or burns his fingers off.
I can understand it…being in control in golf is such a fluid prospect. It comes and goes. I’m currently struggling mightily. Getting back in to golf this year after a decade of playing 4 or 5 rounds or none at all annually my game went from mid 80’s to mid 90’s this Feb-May but June big decline and last week 110 and today 107. Shot 50 on the front side even without being able to get off the tee well no matter if it was driver, 3 wood or iron to a 57 on the back nine with two quads, a triple and only one par. So frustrating when you know what you’re doing wrong but can’t fix it. I was brutally sore in my back and legs from my leg workout Thursday that didn’t help so probably would have played better.
My motto is, you can’t pull flab.
I’m not overweight, but I’m almost 70 now so fitness and me have long parted ways. The wife on the other hand at 51 looks marvelous.

I count everything, no mulligans or improving lies. Only thing I do is if a houses fence is in the way of my swing I’ll take a club length farther away from the hole. Trees or bushes…play it as it lies or take a penalty drop.
Laughing. I play the whites for the most part unless a course is just too big for me. Then I play the senior tees. I can only hit my driver about 200 yards when I hit it decently solid. 215 or so if I smoke it. Hit my three wood about 180 when I hit it good. I do tend to hit the ball pretty straight though and I can draw the ball and fade it. So that helps a lot.
Played a fair amount when younger. My back had a hard time with the torque, too many miles on it. Later i found a great par 3 course that had lengthy holes. I loved hitting irons off the tee cuz i was pretty good with them. Woods? If i hit one straight off the block it was a accident. The 4 some kinda dispersed and l had no interest in a pickup group. Still love watching the majors.
I am blessed to have a group of guys I have played with almost every Sunday for 10 years. Of course the winter causes lapses. We joke about how much farther we used to hit the ball 10 years ago, and how bad our backs, knees, shoulders, etc are these days.

I have decent length…can hit 275-300 yard drives, irons typical distances, 7- 155 to 165, 10 yards + or – up and down the rest. 3 wood 225. What’s been the issue is all the swing changes to improve my distances I’m just not comfortable yet so I push / pull or hit my blades off a tad. I just need more swings.
My swing is so simple I don’t ever go to the range or practice. I go to the first tee cold and just hit the ball. Sometimes the first few swings aren’t good as the oil is still in the pan as they say, but I tend to make solid contact in the center of the club more often than not. I wish I had your length though. I hit my six iron 130 yards.
I hit 250 if some shmuck will loan me their 900 dollar driver made from leftover parts from a carbon-fiber Ferrari or Lambo or MuskRocket, otherwise I hit just over 200 on a good day when my knees, back, shoulders, elbows, groin, and neck doesn’t hurt.
And I can’t believe I’ve never had a real lesson.
All this reminds me of the longest golf shot of my life, which I will share, because memories make me smile sometimes.
I am a natural slicer and erratic with drivers. We were playing in a best-ball tournament on an 18-hole course. One of the holes has a dog leg that naturally follows my slice. Next, the outside of the fairway had a fairly steep bank. Another thing in my favor: major drought year, so the ground was like concrete. Finally, one of my partners had a premium driver. He told me to try it out.
I caught that ball perfectly. It followed the outer edge of the dog leg, eventually hit the bank and ran forever.
Still not pro-level distance, but it was glorious.

I was REALLY good at Golden Tee Golf back in the day. Hit a hole-in-one on a par 4 one time, slammed my fucking tee shot, hit a rock that was near the green, & plunk. Thing of beauty.
