So, from what we’re hearing out of camp, it sounds like the Vikings O line may be poised to take a step forward this year. The center position still sounds shaky, but we’re hearing good things about Darrisaw and about Nailor… and a few others but nothing out of this world.

It won’t really be that big of a surprise. I was one of the only ones that liked KJ as a WR coming out of Miami. If you watch their tape he was the go to guy in their offense and he was a smart heady player. It’s only natural as he improves he’ll pass an aging Thielen. This year or next for sure.

Well what we have here is a problem for other teams. You have AT, JJ, KJ, Irv, and Cook on the field at the same time. You can double two of those guys but the other three are gonna be single covered and you can’t blitz because then you either have 4 in single coverage or worse someone isn’t covered at all. Every one of those guys can make you pay too.

Do a search, open the image, right click, copy image then paste into the comment box here. It usually adds some extra stuff after the file extension (.gif, .jpg, etc) that can be deleted. If you don’t delete the extra stuff, it looks like this:

Make sure there is a file extension. Depending on if you click copy image, copy link or copy image link the file extension isn’t there sometimes, but I have had the best luck with “Copy Image.”

Not exactly… Cousins was asked about how KOC’s offense was different and he gave an example of a read against a certain defensive look that his previous OC’s wanted him to say no to and move on in his progressions, and KOC wants him to go ahead and take it. The reason for that preference could be many things, including setting up the derense for a simillar look where they succumb to a double move or otherwise overplay what they’re seeing.

Im fine with the INTs in practice considering they are trying to rewire him to be more aggressive and take shots and not be afraid of mistakes. They also said he threw a pass away in a 4th down red zone drill…in training camp, where you cant get hit. They are trying to rewire 10 years of a QB playing it safe. I have to say I have my doubts that will work.
Have you never actually watched Cousins play? He leads the league in 40+ yard TD’s since he became a starter. He has the 9th highest percentage of targets on receivers 20 or more yards down the field. He throws the ball while getting smashed over and over. This narrative that Cousins isn’t aggressive enough needs to be corrected. He’s plenty aggressive when he needs to be. What he isn’t is careless.
Iv watched every second of Vikings football for the past decade, so yes, yes I have seen him play. He does miss plays and open WRs, you can go back every year he has been here and watch the all 22s, he is leaving plays on the field, not all the time, but usually when we need it most. I dont and never will care about his raw stats, so, you dont need to keep reposting them. I dont care. He could throw half the TDs and 1000 less yards but if that meant that he got just enough done to help the team WIN, thats what I would care about. I hope you’re right, I hope he goes off, tops the league and the Vikings go 14-3 and we win a SB. I truly do. But I dont think its going to happen. And whenever the last second of Vikings football happens this season comes, will you have more excuses for Kirk? Will you find a GOOD reason to have him on the roster at his cap hit? A roster that will be dumping more aging vets and will need a stellar draft AND good FAs to even sniff .500 again? Are you going to justify that? Where is the line for you?

I think Kirk Cousins is a very good to great QB who puts up huge numbers on a team built around the RB and an offensive line that is incapable of protecting him. That’s what I think. I don’t see any huge flaws in his game. Else he could not have amassed those career stats. He has thrown the ball accurately and under duress for his entire time here and yet you want me to accept your position that he is a problem and a reason the Vikings don’t win games. You need to watch the all 22’s of all QB’s in the league and you will see the same thing. First, you don’t know where the ball is planned to go on the play so you don’t know if the play was actually executed as designed. Second, once a QB makes his set and is ready to release the ball, defenders are dropping off coverage which then let’s receivers run free uncovered. Third, at field level (not looking down on the field from a hundred feet) not everything is visible to the QB, which is why he goes through his progressions in the first place.
And as to his stats, they clearly show Cousins does MORE than enough to win games. You choose to ignore that fact which is your right. I choose to look at Cousins performance in context.
Okay. So when we dont make it to the NFCCG game again, let a lone the bowl…how long and for how much are you going to want to hang on to Kirk for. You failed to address this question. Where do you draw the line? What will it take for you to want to move on from him? Retirement?
Hmmm when he stops being really, really good. How about that? He’s the most productive QB in Vikings history and that’s not good enough for you. Since he became a starter in 2015 only two QB’s have thrown for more yards than him and only three have thrown more TD’s and that’s not good enough for you. SO let’s bring in a LESS productive QB so we can win. That’s completely sensible.
So, Vikings keep him for 6 more years, and pay him more and more for those 6 more years, he racks up those stats and this team doesn’t get to a bowl or win one in those 6 years. Is that a success for the team, or for Cousins? Will you say that was a worth while investment? Sounds like you just want a QB that puts up stats around a team thats limited in what it can do financially on both sides of the ball and will never untimely win.
You are asking me to comment on a hypothetical future. That’s not really possible. “If” is half of life. So you have to take everything as it comes.
That said, Cousins is not the reason the Vikings have not been successful. The reasons are many, but Cousins is not one of them. He has had some bad performances for sure, but so has Tiger Woods. A pitcher doesn’t throw the ball perfectly every time, and people accept that. However if Cousins does not throw the ball perfectly every time they do not. BTW a pitcher also doesn’t have 300 lb men trying to rip his head off while he throws the ball.
The bottom line for me is this. Cousins is your best chance of being successful. All you have to do is look at the two Green Bay games last year. The first one with Cousins playing, and the second one without him playing. The Vikings cannot compete AT ALL without Kirk Cousins.
So you think the ONLY qb that this franchise can ever win with in the next 10 years is Kirk? A stud young QB in the draft? No, you dont want that? You dont want the next Josh Allen? I have lived on this earth long enough to understand the reality of the old adage “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”. The Vikings have an exceptionally good QB, in fact the most productive in their history, and you say we need to get rid of said QB for some unknown talent who may or may not ever be the QB Cousins is right now.
Accept the fact that the Vikings have one of the most productive and capable QB’s in the league. A QB who consistently puts the Vikings in a position to win games that other parts of the team piss away. Stop lamenting that Cousins doesn’t produce wins and think some other QB can. Some people have different standards of success. Mine has evolved over time. My first line of success is winning the division, thats step one. If they dont do that, thats a failure. The caviat to that is if they dont do that but still make the play offs, then they need to get to the NFCCG. If they dont, I dont care about just making the play offs. Thats a failure. Thats just me. Anything short of those two things, is failure. I could really be a hard ass and say SB but then I would have no reason to watch at all.
