Hey GF, back in the day over on the DN we were having a popcorn discussion and you mentioned what oil you use to cook popcorn. I promptly forgot. Refresh my memory.
When I was a kid (when the dinosaurs ruled the earth) my oldest brother would make us popcorn using my mom’s cast iron pot. I’m pretty sure he used vegetable oil (nasty stuff). When I grew up and modern times came along I usually just ate microwave popcorn, however as of the last few years I have repented of my sins and have brought out mom’s old cast iron pot. I use olive oil to make my popcorn now. And then I melt some butter in the hot pot and drizzle that over the popcorn also. It is like heaven came down and glory filled my soul (probably no one on this site will get that reference).
The best is coconut oil, peanut oil is probably tied for #1 as far as overall taste goes. Canola, sunflower, or olive oil are good healthy alternatives.
I don’t like the taste of anything with Canola, so I use sunflower or olive for most things.

This will be my 4th time there and her 2nd. She went in January for a surprise 60th for an aunt who didn’t get to go because she got the Vid 2 days before going. Oooh…that’s a good race there. I use to work in Ormand Beach, town right beside Daytona, that night race is always one of the best. Plus I live in NASCAR country now where all the race teams headquarters and testing is at. Workout and play golf with a bunch of guys that work on race teams. Random MT comment – we were watching the rodeo at the local fair and after the barrel racing, you know how one or two riders come racing out with their horses flying a flag of one of the major sponsors, like Montana Silversmiths or the like? I actually tend to side with you on the issue of expanding affordable post secondary education but I 100% do not equate someone that did not attend college as ignorant. Many of the smartest people I know never went to college, learned a trade on their own.
I’m from WVa I know a ton of very smart uneducated life experienced people. My father in law from MI who built custom homes for retiring GM executives and physicians. High School education Navy man who architects would bring blueprints to him as say, Tom can you look these over and tell me if they’re ok?

Your assumption has been based on the current education environment where overpriced tuition has negatively effected the outcomes of higher education. That’s what we’re trying to improve.
Well, no matter how you slice it this loan forgiveness does nothing to control future costs of higher education. If anything I would say it virtually guarantees the costs will continue to rise.
There is a fair argument there on the economics and how that plays out. If they root out the overpaid chancellor’s and other multi million positions and bloated endowments as well as the predatory student load lenders there is easily a margin there to remodel the system.

It’s just a bloated continuation of the participation trophy culture. If you want to improve your situation, then get your ass off the couch and put in the time and effort to do it. The vast majority of people do not have student loans, and I would say it’s easily arguable that it’s an even split between people who attend college and get a degree that’s worth pursuing. Those folks are likely the ones not pushed to vote a certain way hoping that $10k gets wiped out.
For all the young engineers/doctors/teachers that this will help, there is an equal amount of gender studies/philosophy majors “general studies” degree holders who chose a dead end major and just don’t want to have to pay for what’s essentially a worthless piece of paper.
This $$ should 100% be used to incentive tech schools and trades schools so young adults want to fill those positions, which are dying with the last generation and greatly needed. Affording people with 10k who have no real interest in being a useful member of society helps no one. Teachers 10000% deserve it, and we should try to get better people wanting to be teachers, but the income requirements take away the option for established Dr’s still paying their loans off, whether they need the $$ or not.
I’d still this helps a ton of worthless people out, helps some who really need it, but does nothing to the next generation other than set an unreasonable expectation.
If the loan was overpriced, they shouldn’t have taken it out. The government is the one that bloated the cost of college. And actually the loans themselves have pretty loan interest rates typically (at least the federal ones addressed by these payouts). Too many people decided to go to some overpriced private school too because it sounded cooler than going to the cheaper state school for their basket weaving degree. Maybe people should be responsible for their decisions and realize that a 4 year degree that will result in a job making 30K a year probably isn’t worth it. Guess what, that’s what I did. We’re a split family. I’m a Vikings fan and my wife is a Packer fan. We promised when we had kids that we’d let them choose which team to follow, and we agreed not to buy any team gear for them until they did.
My son chose the Vikings (poor kid), while my daughter chose the Packers. I always told her she can like both (never gave that option to my son). After she chose the Packers, my father-in-law got her a Packers kids club subscription. I’ve been having to deal with this junk coming in the mail for a year or so now (daughter is 4).
Yesterday she got a notice that the subscription expired. When my wife told her, she said, “Ok. I don’t like the Packers anymore. Dad, I like the Vikings and the Cardinals.”
Poor girl. But I love her so much.
Poor kid is starting young enough that she could reach my many many decades of fandom without a Ring.

I told my niece to try to find joy in other teams if she wants to be a football fan. She likes watching the Vikings here and there, but she knows to guard her heart from them.
After carefully and meticulously checking my archives and pouring over all of the ancient DN scrolls, optimistic 5 has made appearances before.
I’m concluding that it has to do with the 2nd new optimistic harvest moon, in the outer sector of gamma gamma. This moom usually comes once every couple of years and it seems that five is indeed, on this cycle.
I recall many times many of us with phrases such as “overly optimistic 5 is the worst” or “dude, you know you are even more annoying now that ever, right”? All to no avail.
I suggest we need to ride this wave out. It can be brought on with a few fans who have hope despite flaws in the team, which doomers can’t wrap their head around, and then they turn into this childlike menace who reverts back to the “I know you are but what am i” infantile stages.
It will soon pass. But until then. Overly optimistic five is to he handled cautiously, if he isnt, one of two dreadful things can happen….ONE he can be stuck in his infantile ways, FOREVER or TWO, he will melt down so quickly and irrationally, the whole of skoloholics might not survive.

That’s because you have fallen victim to the most common symptom, believing five truly means the things he is saying. He starts it by complimenting you and telling you how smart you are. Agreeing with some of your more “homer” or optimistic takes. This happens to alot of people, their ears are tickles and it makes them feel good someone as smart and talented and WIDELY RESPECTED as five is on their side.
