The Vikings play their final preseason game tomorrow night in Denver, kickoff is at 8 pm central time. I doubt we’ll see many starters playing, but as always, it will be fun to watch the positional battles. In the end, the main thing you hope for is NO INJURIES! As for which positions to watch, I’ll be looking at the center and tight end positions. The center position is the biggest question mark on this team right now, and I’m looking for one of the depth tight ends to step up and make some plays to show that they can do the job in the case that Irv Smith Jr. doesn’t make it back by week one (or gets hurt again). The punter position could also become interesting if rookie Ryan Wright shows any signs of struggle.

Driving with dilated eyes sucks. The first time I had my eyes dilated was after an allnighter as an intern in Spokane. The sun was coming up as I drove east on I-90 and I not only was crying as I didn’t have sunglasses but I couldn’t judge distances well. Good thing I stayed in the granny lane.

As I have pointed out before, are you actually cheering for the Vikings if you want them to win after they are eliminated from the playoff contention? Or are you cheering against them in that circumstance if you want them to win? Wanting them to win, with no hope means lowering their draft spot and potentially hurting the future team. Is finishing 5-12 worth it instead of finishing 3-14?
The problem is the team has never been that shitty to the point where you can commit to finishing being shitty. They hover around .500 year round which makes it hard to commit either way. Its easier if you suck out of the gate and continue to suck.
It makes me laugh that in spite of us looking horrible all season and then crawling into the expanded playoffs, some people think anything can happen and we will beat good teams. Then we get crushed as the world expected and goobers sit around acting surprised.

In that division? No guarantees there. Their defense isn’t anything near what it was when they last went to the post-season, and they have the Chefs and Vegases to deal with now.
They’ll be better than LV and Chargers IMO. But with that division canibalizing itself, I could see only one team making the playoffs from it.

Off topic slightly but you made a nice statement earlier in the week, something about depreciation tax mumbo jumbo larger corporations. Do you remember what you said and can you post it again, or are you going to force me to look for it? I need to forward it.
Don’t remember exactly what I said, but the gist is that when a company/business puts money into infrastructure and capital expenditures like servers, trucks, buildings, etc. they can almost completely avoid paying taxes because of depreciation and amortization. Google and Amazon and others have the cash to keep buying.
Yeah, depreciation & amortization is a huge tax saver. Unrealized expenses, so to speak. You buy something, then depreciate it over the useful life. Buy a skid loader for $60,000, write off $12,000 a year for 5 years.
Yup, and they also throw on a pile of R&D expenses, which can be a straight deduction from taxable income, and *poof* goes the taxes.
I believe it. We don’t deal with R&D expenses, so I have no knowledge in that area. Corporate-wide, we wrote off about $300 million in depreciation in 2021.

Income before taxes and depreciation: $1 billion
Purchased $20 billion of equipment, depreciation = ~ $4 billion
Taxable net loss = $ 3 billion, which can be carryforwarded to years out a ways.

The point I was making was Republicans are trying to have the stance of, “Hey we are fiscal conservatives and if we forgive PPP loans then the tax payers have to inherit that burden so we are against this student loan forgiveness!” But they don’t take issue with so many other people/entities getting PPP forgiveness. Just another example of politicians not actually standing for what they say they stand for.

I wasn’t intending to say forgiving all student debt was the way to go. TBH I am a little butt hurt that it won’t benefit me as I graduated from a private school about $80,000 in debt so I moved and taught/coached on an Indian reservation for 10 years because it paid better, less things to spend money on etc… and got my loans paid off 2 years ago.
