Don’t go for a walk while you’re hungry, you may wind up at Cracker Barrel. That’s what just happened to me.
I guess I’m having brunch.
If I walked to Cracker Barrel it would take me a couple of days.
It’s only a mile or so from where I work. I walk around 10 miles a day.
The closest to me is about 100 miles. It might take me more than a few days.
Eggs and Bacon are always on the menu….
Interesting. The third time my account has disappeared on this site. I rarely post, so I can’t have ticked too many people off – can I?
I don’t think anybody’s been banned (aside from spam accounts, possibly)
maybe you’re forgetting your password?
but it said it didn’t recognize my email and I re-registered
It’s not really a big deal, but it is odd.
that is odd
That shouldn’t happen.
What were your other account names? Maybe try using letters and numbers, because I can’t find your account at all, even now.
Interesting. I just registered with the username “stuff”. The sight is now asking me to log back in even though I clicked “Remember Me.” Maybe it is the fact that the name I use here is just a number?
But that is a very important number….
Post more often maybe?
Also bring a towel.
Very odd. Thanks for letting us know, I’ll see what I can do. If it continues, I can let the developers know & see if they can fix it. Sorry about the issues.
So, I can see your “stuff” user profile. At least it’s retaining your info, it’s just odd that it didn’t do that earlier. Could be because the username was all numbers, but I wasn’t aware that would be an issue.
As I said, no big deal. I just found it a little strange.
Serious question here (hence I am kicking my feet back on the Old Porch, instead of dodging bullets on the wild, wild west site). Some of the community members here are those who drink purple kool aid daily. They live and die with the team, and the team is great almost every year. Their comments are fairly unreasonable.
Then there are the “Debbie Downers” who are “Vikings Suck”, “0-6 at the bye” etc. Their comments are really illogical. And, yes, they piss me off.
Some people live in the middle. Personally, I am unsure where I am. But what drives a person to be overly optimistic or pessimistic? This is just an honest question, and I would appreciate some serious replies.
I think I’m somewhat in the middle. While I’m a natural optimist, I can also acknowledge reality. I tend to look at the bright side until evidence shows me that I should no longer do so, if that makes sense.
My un-professional view:
Pessimists don’t want to be hurt so they expect the worst. When things turn out better than they expected it gives them that rush.
Optimists try to keep the high all the time so they over compensate by “forcing” things to appear better than are.
I tend to lean pessimistic, so anything but 0-17 makes me happy.
I erred on the side of optimism when I was younger, but I always had decent-ish reasons. I wasn’t so much “the Vikings will win, the other team sucks” but rather “the Vikings could win this game, and here’s how I think it might look if that were to happen”
Now I’m more pessimistic. Not “the Vikings suck and they’ll lose” but “it’s easy for me to imagine the Vikings losing this game – here’s why”.
The heartbreaking nature of 1998 and 2009 put dings in my purple armor, but 2017 was different. Teddy getting hurt in 2016 and benched in 2017, then leaving the team… Bradford looking lights out in week 1 and then disappearing… The miracle play really made it feel like it might be a year of destiny. That first drive in philadelphia was so promising. Then, well, 38 unanswered. Teddy and Bradford and Keenum all depart. I haven’t been the same as a fan since.
This year in particular, the team is not being very efficient. They’re not playing the style of play I think is necessary to consistently win games, but they are winning games, and that’s important.
It is possible to flip a quarter 6 times and get five heads and one tail, although it’s not very likely.
They’ll have to get better to have any sort of reasonable chance to beat actual playoff teams, but they’ve got time and they could get better.
If they can host every playoff game they play in (by other teams knocking off higher seeds for them), then there’s a decent-ish shot they make the big dance.
Same here. The team is not playing very well and still winning. There are multiple reasons for this…other team’s starting quarterback, opponents injuries, new systems, etc. I see potential in the offense. I do not see the same in the defense.
yeah, the defense is unconvincing so far
They are playing well enough to win (5 games so far) but the manner in which they’ve won games and the deficiencies we see as fans doesn’t lead me to believe this is a Bowl capable team without a lot of improvement on both sides of the ball.
fair enough; well said
Every fan base is that way. If the team goes on an 11 game losing streak, there won’t be many purple Kool-Aid fans. The opposite holds true, too. If they go on an 11 game winning streak, there won’t be many Debby-downers (I’m guessing two).
My personal fandom ebbs and flows. After the Packer game I wrote some uncharacteristically optimistic comments. Now I’m back in the middle somewhere but more on the pessimistic side.
I’m on my phone at work so gloss over any errors.
I noticed when I was posting and moderating at the DN that conversations about the team would get skewed towards the negative based on early posts (as you pointed out, 0-6 never won an Owl etc) or towards the positive again based on early posts….and it’s social media where there tends to be groupthink.
Personally, it’s hard to read a bunch of negativity about the team from a poster unless there are facts to back it up Kirk sucks, Zimmer is old and stubborn) as nausea.
Where one lands in the spectrum of doomer to optimist as a fan is one’s own personal choice; personally I’d rather enjoy the good time and lament the bad times but look forward to improvement.
also, tl;dr
Well said.
Good point of view Rob.
But.. Kirk does suck.
Unless he doesn’t.
He’s an average QB, maybe slightly above average, IMO. That’s it. He isn’t going to carry a team on his back, but he’ll keep you in most games (when he isn’t in spaz mode).
I think the whole “carry a team on his back” thing is kinda overblown. Some quarterbacks may process faster, understand game situations, and just plain be more experienced, but you still need to have someone to catch the ball, or holes for the backs to run through. And once a q-back gets the “elite” label they seem to get the benefit of the doubt from Refs (just my opinion from watching Rogers stand there while his linemen are each blocking one-on-one and no one gets by them, and then heaving it up and getting a DPI).
I do agree with you (this time…..). I hate reading the illogical comments, whether they are positive or negative. There is not problem with saying, “Vikings suck, our D is doing things with smoke and mirrors, giving up big yards game after game. Offense is inconsistent and cannot make the big play and go for the kill”. Nothing wrong with stuff like that. But to say things like, “We wont win another game” or “I would take Matt Ryan over Kirk” is just ludicrous. I am getting close to just turning mute on some of the people
I think for some people it is just their online persona. They can let out some of their happy side or dark side because no one really knows them.
I used to be an optimistic homer. After 41-0 I became the opposite. Team always sucked. Life was also beating me up around 2000 – 2005. So my negative world view also affected my outlook on everything. I saw doom each season.
I consider myself a realistic, fair weather fan now.
I want them to win it all.
I hope they do better than last season.
I expect them to crush those hopes.
Buenos dias!
I’m on my way, having my first cup of coffee now.
my coffee is hitting the spot right now.
it’s been a weird sleep week, and it ain’t gettin’ normal-er tonight neither.
I’ve been on a wonderful sleep schedule ever since our vacation. I’m in bed before 9:00, and up between 5:00 & 6:00 every morning. I did sleep in a bit on Sunday, maybe 7:00.
that’s close to my ideal
I like to be in bed between 9 & 9:30, then up at 6
My ideal is midnight to 8 am.
Close to my times.
Bedtime is usually around 10:00 PM.
Up at 5 with no alarm needed.
Even on weekends.
I’m going to make more
