Aloha, Skoloholics! The free agency news cycle continues to churn and spin, and the Vikings front office is hard at work. They have signed former Arizona Cardinals cornerback Byron Murphy, according to Ian Rapoport.
According to ESPN, the Vikings signed Murphy to a two-year deal. Murphy was a second round pick by the Cardinals in the 2019 NFL draft (#33 overall), and was the Cardinals’ #1 cornerback last year. He’s coming off of a 2022 season which was going great for the cornerback until he went down with a back injury in December, and missed the remainder of the season. He’s strong and fast, and is excellent in man coverage.
Murphy is considered one of the best man corners available in this year’s free agent market, and as he’s only 26 years old, this is a solid signing for the Vikings. Murphy will be a much better fit with DC Flores’ typical defensive scheme than Patrick Peterson was, and helps the Vikings defense get both younger and better. Great move by Kwesi Adofo Mensah as he continues to overhaul the Minnesota Vikings roster, especially on defense.
