Alexander Mattison Sends Vikings Strong Message on Kirk Cousins, honestly, Mattison should be more worried about whether he is on the Vikings roster come next season.
ESPN provides latest update on Kirk Cousins re-signing with Vikings, key piece of the article is that basically everything else is on hold until the QB position is figured out.
Vikings Hire Marcus Dixon as Defensive Line Coach, Mike Pettine also becomes OLB coach in addition to assistant to the HC.
Are the Vikings a good fit for Saquon Barkley? I mean, this is a pretty dumb question, he’s a fit for anyone.
3 Minnesota Vikings we can now safely call busts in 2024, Cine, Assmaor, and McBride, though I wouldn’t call McBride a bust, he was a 7th rounder who spent the season on the practice squad, which is pretty common for 7th rounders.

Entertaining game. I must admit, I did not know about the overtime rule changes for the playoffs.
It was a good game. Great defense throughout, good QB play.
Best QB wins(again)
Niners will be retooling a little next year. They restructured a lot of contracts this year, but they’re still $3M over the cap right now for next season.
They have 8 players with contracts in the top ten in the league at their position, and six of those players with contracts that rank in the top five of average annual value at their position.
Purdy accounted for less than 900K against the cap this year, and he’ll count just over a million against the cap next year. The Niners will need some big hits in the draft, and have to dump some big name players.
There’s some chatter going around about KAM bringing in Sam Darnold. He was QB2 on the Niners this year.
Teams led by Darnold are 21-35 (.375) in 56 career starts, mostly the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers. In six seasons, he’s banked 63 passing touchdowns and 56 interceptions, with 182.8 passing yards per game.
No thanks to Darnold.
Better off to keep Mullens/Hall/Rookie.

Yeah, unfortunately there isn’t anyone I see that could come in and quickly replicate Cousins level of play. KOC’s passing offense is complex for a QB to run. He could change that obviously (and frankly I think he should).
And the team is not good enough to pay Kirk to stick around.
You will get 3 more years of just above average, and if the team squeaks into the playoff they will just get destroyed again.
Time for a full rebuild.
I don’t think it will be 3 years of just above average play. I think the Vikings will sink to the bottom of the NFC North, and stay there for a while.

I think this is the kind of stuff that is making me sick of the NFL. I just want to watch football.
The fact that the NFL is ‘Entertainment’ and not ‘Sports’ now certainly diminishes it’s appeal.
Might follow it but more like watching a movie than rooting for a team. What is the point when the outcome is predetermined.
Anyone here like good Westerns. Had some time, so watched Lonesome Dove Series the last couple of days. Great stuff, wonderful story and the acting is superb.
I tried to get into that series ‘back in the day’ but couldn’t quite do it.
Maybe this is a rare case where the movie is better than the book?
Don’t know that the movie is better, but if you like Robert Duvall, he is at his best in this role. Tommy Lee Jones is solid too.

All ESPN analyst picked Chefs. Sam 9ers, but she’s a Ponder.
I think that’s the Mahomes vs Purdy perspective. Mahomes has already won a Super Bowl, and isn’t “star struck”. Purdy is gonna be a lot more nervous than Mahomes.
IF the Niners run the ball effectively though, Purdy will have less pressure on him. I’m sure this isn’t lost on Shanahan.

Folks are also saying the Vikings are “trying” to retain Cousins, but “preparing” in case a deal can’t get done. I think the trying part is KAM saying to Cousins agent “we need flexibility” and Cousins agent saying “sorry, no dice”.
Me too. The Darnold talk makes sense if Minny is looking for a 1 year bridge. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Jameis Winston and Gardner Minshew’s names bandied about as well, if they haven’t been already.
I don’t see any of those as an upgrade over Mullins.
They would have to learn KOCs offense first and we have to pay them.

Today the team that has been the best overall in the NFC takes on the team with the best QB in the league. Maybe someday the Vikings can build a championship caliber roster and make a run.
