The NFL week 9 Vikings @ Commanders game is in the books, and the Minnesota Vikings got a tough win on the road to move to 7-1 on the season. Wow! I don’t think any of us, even the most optimistic among us, expected the team to be 7-1 after week 9. It’s a great position for the Vikings to be in, and if they can keep finding ways to improve in areas where they have been weak, this team could make some noise in the post-season.
This game was another frustrating game for many fans. The offense was stagnant for a long stretch of the game again after starting with a strong drive. That seems to happen often this year. The defense looked pretty good again today, and they seem to be improving with each game, which is encouraging.
Vikings @ Commanders
Offense
The offense opened with a briliant drive that ended with a Justin Jefferson touchdown. Then, the offense mostly died until later in the fourth quarter. They woke up about mid-way through the fourth quarter, and with some assistance from the defense, put this game away for the Vikings.
Defense
The defense played a pretty solid game, for the most part. They kept this game close while the offense floundered for a long period of time, and kept it within range for when our offense finally woke up. Harrison Smith came up with a HUGE interception in the fourth quarter, and after the Vikings tied the score, the defense took over, got the ball back so our offense could put the Vikings ahead, and then got the save
Special Teams
Believe it or not, Greg Joseph made all of his extra point attempts and field goal attempts yesterday. Wright continued to punt the ball well, and our coverage units looked pretty good.
Summary
Again, a win is a win. The Minnesota Vikings are 7-1, and in a commanding lead in the NFC North. Oh, speaking of which, the Packers lost to the Lions, summary courtesy of ESPN. Man, that’s awesome. You can’t get much better than that, the Vikings get a big road win, and the Packers lose to the Lions. The melt down in Entitled Town is going to be a treat to watch. Great win for the good guys.
