Alright, it’s been much more calm since all the excitement of Tuesday’s trade deadline. I’m excited to see how this offense looks with a solid tight end on the roster. If nothing else, it’ll give Cousins a check-down option to go to when the pressure is on. Also, having another play maker that teams have to account for should help take some of the pressure off of JJ. They can’t double-team everyone.

Fitting song for the day today.

Good choice
Think of all the fishing you can do once you’re laid off Brad
LOL, not laid off. I’ll transition straight into self-employment. But yeah, flexibility of schedule will definitely lead to much more fishing time and time with the kiddo, it’s one of my goals.
This is a weird feeling. Knowing that this entire office, including all of us will likely be gone from here before summer. Wow.
Where to?
Philly
Sweet there are some nice office spaces along Kensington Avenue.
You mean fired?
Or just moving to a different office?
They’re selling our corporation.
Just announced this morning, crazy stuff. I’m cool with it.
I saw that, but selling the company doesn’t necessarily mean you lose your job. But I guess that is what you think will happen.
Oh yeah, we’ll be gone. The only reason our corporate office is in Bismarck is because of our parent company. None of our operating companies are in North Dakota, so there would be zero reason to keep this office intact. Whoever buys us is buying our 15 operating companies, they’ll have their own front office.
It will give you more time to fine tune Skoloholics.
That’s what I told him lol
Agreed!
They have a good run D. Betting Kirk throws 35+ times
Could be, you’re right about their run D, plus their pass D is kinda shitty. Do whatever is working.
Which is odd because their D line creates pressure very well but they dont get home/ their secondary must be a sieve
And we are all used to watching sieves on Sunday afternoon!
Must be. Yeah, they blitz very little, one of the lowest rates in the league, but they apply pressure at a high rate, which is through the front four. So, you have 7 guys in coverage & you still can’t cover?
Their run def is okay. Kitties beat them for their only win and dropped 200 on them on the ground
The Toby Gerhart “era” was weird in that we already had AP.
But in spite of his haters, I was thoroughly entertained by Gerhard, since he would just smash through. Now our guys are pretty shrimpy and can’t do that.
I liked Toby, until he became slippery hands.
He was a nice 1-2 punch with AD.
No idea why so many ppl care about the lik/dislike… but if you guys want I think I can turn off dislikes if ppl are soft like baby 5
I dislike your talk of turning off disliking. I want people to know if I think their post is stupid (or really good and I’m jealous, you can decide).
Up vote
Quit being a twat waffle kid
The layoffs begin.
Lyft 13% layoffs
Stripe 14% layoffs.

It will be interesting to see how far this goes.
Merry Christmas !!
Odd because new unemployment claims are down while all this is happening. It’s gonna get fugly.
The math doesn’t add up. I can see with my eyes that people are not working, yet unemployment claims go down. Restaurants are still closing due to staff shortages, businesses are laying off people, we can’t hire the people we need, yet there are supposedly less unemployed people? It just doesn’t add up.
I know, right? None of this adds up.
I look at anesthesiology. There must be 3000 openings nationwide for CRNAs or anesthesiologists. They are offering big bucks. What happened to create a shortage?
The only thing I’ve come to is a change in the psyche of people. I think less high school kids are getting jobs and a lot of people feel entitled to a job that will allow them to work from home. We can’t even get people that are half way qualified to apply for our positions, much less to accept them and then stick around. We have nearly doubled the starting pay since I started with the company less than 10 years ago and it’s positions with very good opportunity for advancement.
In my day, you could go a long way before you found a high-schooler who didn’t work part time, and usually full-time during the summer.
Now they have to do volunteer and other crap to get into college to pump their resume, or if they’re on a club sports team, fugggedaboutthetime to work.
A lot of people have just left the workforce and are being supported by the gubbermint.
There is a lot of that, I think, people dropping out of the work force altogether.
boomers retired, it made a huge difference.
I just don’t see the people struggling to get jobs around where I live.
I can’t hire enough people.
All the upper managers have or will retire and I have a great career path laid out. Even if you get out of healthcare, I know college kids are making a killing right now at crappy jobs.
For Example, my college age kid is now a part time manager at Chipolte since they can’t find enough people. He switched jobs like this 3 times in the last 2 years.
Chipotle pays a 19 year old college student $16.25, and they also pay around 4K into a college scholarship for him.
I get that not everyone is going to have the same experiences as myself. But I’ve never made more money, and the future is looking very bright for me and my family.
Its’ also why I keep telling everyone to be happy and that things aren’t that bad. Maybe they are bad for some on here.
I just don’t see it myself.
I stopped at an extremely busy Holiday station a couple days ago for gas.
Hadn’t had lunch, so was going to go in and nose around for something to chomp on.
Sign on door said “We are short staffed, leaving at 1:00, will be back at 2:00.”
They still hadn’t shown up at 3:30, was locked.
A nooner?
That’s a long nooner
Do they sell viagra at Holiday?
He mighta been imbibing….
Same thing that happened in every skilled position. Covid got all the boomers to retire. The genexers all got promoted to take their place. The millennials are spoiled useless shits, as a generation and are living off trust funds and welfare and have not put in the time to be skilled enough to replace the genexers. The gen zee is even worse and won’t fill the entry level positions.
Bad parenting and democrats are what happened to create the shortage. Nobody wants to work and nobody is qualified for most jobs because they have been useless pieces of shit their whole life.
As I told my sons several years ago, you have it made because your competition is so bad.
I get that, but speaking specifically of anesthesiologists I understand there is a carefully controlled supply and demand for all specialties. I get that some boomers took the pandemic as a sign to retire. I get that surgical business is booming with the aging population and post pandemic.
However, the numbers still don’t add up. And ours is a uniquely specialized and nontransferable skill set that cost us huge amounts in student loans and many years of our lives.
AMA fucked up bad. They specifically limit who can do what and they underestimated the need for that position 10-15 years ago. Medical schools are controlled by the AMA, which you for sure already know. If there were 300,000 extra radiologists in the country, your pay would be 50% what it is.
Exactly. They definitely have a problem specifically with anesthesia. Which is defined as 99% boredom and 1% pure terror.
It would be fun to image little Billy, who swallows nails, hard currency, his sister’s doll heads, etc.
What do you think caused the shortage?
I’m going to be flamed for this but I think a cadre of the old timers quit. Although male dominated, a rising proportion of anesthesiologists are women. Many women in medicine are demanding work life balance and also often have a spouse in medicine who can offset their decreased work hours.
Old timers quit…fewer people to take call work evenings and weekends. Newcomers don’t want to work 11 hour days six days a week so seek out better hours. Hospitals become desperate to keep positive overhead on surgical budgets. Wages go up, hourly demands drop. Anesthesiologists on the positive side of the supply and demand curve can afford to be choosy.
Kodiak that rant is dead on accurate.
Thank you.
Kodiak,
did you raise a bunch of Democrats?
Kid was 12, last year to trick or treat, he went as a Trump supporter. What do you think?
So a lib. Just as I thought.
He went as the worst monster he could think of.
What happened to create a shortage?
Covid??? mandated vaccines, mask wearing, older workforce tired of putting up with all the shit. Government sending out money for free.
Cookin the books and too many trust fund kids and too much welfare
They redefine what unemployment is.
Not sure what they are using today, but it used to be you were only counted as unemployed if you were looking for work. Of course, so many people don’t want to work, so they are likely not counted as unemployed.
Once you’ve stopped seeking employment for 4 weeks, you go off the books & aren’t included in the unemployment rate anymore. You aren’t counted as unemployed unless you’ve been actively seeking employment within the last 4 weeks.
I thought this was the way they did it for decades, but I’m not sure?
Anyone know?
@not recent. so it doesn’t count anymore@
Yore learning.
It’s the same as it has been for quite a while. I don’t recall them changing their methodology much, and I’m on their site several times a month for data.
Found it on the BLS site. How the Government Measures Unemployment (bls.gov)
4 weeks in a recession is nothing.
I would guess the unemployment rate won’t be near 10% again for years. People don’t want to work, so they won’t be counted. Even in a recession.
Yeah, the unemployment rate has never been a true measure of unemployment. True unemployment is over 10%.
lol, more like 60%
Unemployment is based off of people “actively working for a job”. Once they quit, they statistically fall out of the labor force. So unemployment is not a measure of the % of people working, it is a measure of the % of people who want to work, who are working
Which totally explains why the unemployment rate is a farce.
Nobody wants to work, so they aren’t counted.
I found a bunch of interesting charts in the link below.
They have the civilian labor force participation rate.
The participation rate measures the percentage of Americans who are in the labor force, while the unemployment rate measures the percentage within the labor force that is currently without a job.
It was around 62% 20 years ago.
It drop to 58% in late 2009
Rose to 61% Feb 2020
Crashed to 51% april 2020
Now is at 60%.
Click around on the graphs. There’s a lot of info here.
https://www.bls.gov/charts/employment-situation/employment-population-ratio.htm
This is by BSF is rolling in the dough. He is willing to do the work and get the info, while the rest of us just shoot from the cuff.
U6 numbers are the people who quit looking. They fiddle with the raw data on U3 numbers pretty often to make the numbers look better.
It’s all stats.
You can make stats say what you want them to say.
That was one of the first things we learned in Accounting class.
Yes sir…..
I use a lot of these charts. BEA is another great resource.
Interesting. I never really cared to do a deep dive into this.
I was struck when freeze listed all the Vikings QBs, and stated that all that information was a cut and paste away on his computer.
I remember a time when there were no personal computers, no internet. Social studies teacher might give an assignment like how many prime ministers of Canada have served multiple terms or something equally esoteric like list all Vikings QBs from beginning to present. Subsequently, the student would visit the school library during and after school, paging through encyclopedias, maybe reading a couple of chapters in a political science book, etc…
I’m left to wonder if there were any tangible benefits to that exercise. My grandkids seem much less curious about the ways of the world, perhaps having instant access to information makes us as a species less curious about history? Any teachers on here that can weigh in?
i was actually thinking about this same thing when i was on a work trip a few days ago.
as i plugged into every destination on my phone and got routes in .0002 seconds, and followed the map and was able to listen to my music or podcasts at the same time…
thinking about how travel used to be with an actual map or atlas…..
thank you, Lord, for technology
Man, I drove 18 wheeler before we had cell phones & google maps. Drove 46 states and Canada with nothing but my atlas.
and you have my respect
When my family drove from Wis to Texas back when I was a teen, I was the navigator with my trusty atlas.
I went fancy & bought the laminated Atlas. It also had all the weigh stations marked.
I tried to buy a map and they don’t even have them anymore.
We see lots of issues with truck drivers especially that are 100% reliant on GPS. They get lost and turn on roads they should not be on because the GPS said so. Complete ignorance and blind obedience. A large portion of the truck drivers I see now don’t belong driving a passenger car on the highway, much less an 18 wheeler.
You’re correct, the quality of truck drivers has gone downhill fast. Companies loosened their standards because of the truck driver shortage, so they filled the positions, but most of these sumbitches should not be behind the wheel of a rig.
I have seen at least 2 guys pull up to our loading dock tractor first. Absolutely astonishing.
Holy shit. Are you serious?
Yeah, these guys are driving big rigs on the interstate.
Backing up a semitrailer is HARD!
Not that long ago, truck drivers had a good reputation & were normally the best drivers on the road. Now, I’d say they’re some of the worst drivers on the road.
That whole industry went sideways.
I saw a few people were blaming the Amazon/walmarts of the world for the issues. I have no idea myself and would love to hear more if anyone knows.
The high demand for truck drivers created the truck driver shortage. In that regard, you could say Amazon had an effect. The problem wasn’t the shortage, though. The problem is that we allowed unqualified and untrained drivers to get behind the wheel. To me, that’s where you lay the blame.
E logs have had an effect both in reducing the hours guys are driving and I think it chased a lot of people out of the profession.
Yup, both eLogs and the first thing, truck driver school mills.
Saw them popping up in California promising to train you for $10,000 but they were strictly a scam where you got about 5 minutes of classroom and 500 yards of driving.
Some bad schools out there. I learned from my brother, who had been driving for decades. Rode along, practiced, then after I got my license, we still drove tandem for another week or 2 before I went out on my own, but by then, I was a decent operator.
shortage because nobody can pass a drug test.
I may get flamed for this, but one of my cousin’s is married to a guy that drives a delivery truck. His take on it is that most of the bad truck drivers were not born in this country.
Agreed. The worst are Soviet or wear a towel as a hat.
a maroon got off the ferry and drove his truck w/all his possessions and his dog into the ocean at full speed a few years ago, following his phone
City atlas, and AAA Trip-Tick for long hwy vacations.
I was thinking when I read this, I wonder if the average college graduate would be able to orient themselves on our place(s). As in, to find our home follow the dry creek bed until you come to the fence, follow the fenceline west until you come to a gate, follow that road north until you see the WAPA electrical lines, follow them northwest until you see our place in the valley below. Go!
If I give my wife an address or use cardinal directions to tell her how to get somewhere she has no idea. She needs if you go down Grand towards 24th past the Albertsons you always go to, it will be on your right.
Actually a lot of women navigate that way. I honestly think back to the old days, say I’m meeting friends in an unfamiliar city like Vancouver or Calgary. There were no cellphones to call and say OK I’m at Deerfoot Trail and Bow Drive, now where do I go? Just had to find your way to the meeting place or you were doomed.
How many people know the difference between avenues and streets anymore? Or realize that even numbered interstates run east and west? And I agree, females seem to navigate by landmarks more. I would say something genetic but apparently sex is not genetic anymore so I don’t know.
This reminds me of a funny occurrence this hunting season. I was hunting with a couple of friends, all military. I was with 2 other guys, and there were 2 guys that went a different way and ended up shooting a spike elk. He ended up bedding down so we waited awhile, we got in touch with them again and asked my buddy where he was. Mind you, we are in the mountains about a mile apart. Anyway, my buddy’s response is, he’s to the left of the wallow.
Haha. “Oh I know just where you are”
Yeah, it was great. He caught much flak for that one. My wife was giving his daughter a ride somewhere and asked her where said place was. She said it was between Scheels and Laurel. Turned out it was north of Grand about 56th Street. I told him about that occurrence and he justified it by saying if you draw a line north from Scheels and one from Laurel it was between those lines.
When I was a youngun, working as chief expediter for a big fat lumber yard, I once had a woman give me the directions to drop off a bid:
“Go down that road until you see a rock, I don’t know how far, but you can’t miss it, then turn right”
It had snowed 2 feet in the last week and her shrimpy little rock was nowhere to be found.
women have been notorious for sucking at finding anywhere forever, giving directions is even worse.
thank you, thumb up yours
Yeah it seems at times a double edged sword that everyone can know anything very quickly. But it’s a tool like any tool it’s how you use it. Classrooms today still use books (at times) and internet at other times. Teachers will make kids use sources from multiple mediums, so like you have to cite a book, a webpage, and an article. The nice part now is you can use technology to help you find an article much quicker.
I remember flipping through the manual card classification system in the library to try to find enough sources for my high school papers….That really did suck…
The old Dewey Decimal system and library index cards. Microfiche. Medline. Sigh.
I hope that is not a nostalgic sigh….yuck…
Well I was a nerd so I spent a lot of times in libraries. Thinking back to my premed days, circa late 80s, I remember looking for, say, a book on immunohistochemistry by looking in the card catalog and subsequently seeking it out. Sometimes you’d find a good book on breast augmentation across the aisle. Then there was the whole literature search, fire up a MedLine CD, write down a bunch of articles, go seek out the bound copies and make photocopies of same, sometimes pulling fiche. I guess it is a little nostalgic although it is definitely easier to pull an article these days. Shoot my subscription to an online radiology encyclopedia and differential diagnosis enumerator gives me faster and more accurate information than an entire bookshelf of textbooks.
Information is now a commodity that is accessible to everyone at home.
Just an aside… a person once asked Einstein if he knew how many feet are in a mile. His response was that he didn’t know, since information like that would just clog his brain up and he could look that up any time he wanted.
I use to read encyclopedias from cover to cover as a kid. If the internet were available I would have read everything about everything, and back in the day, remembered it all. I don’t see that in kids today. Nobody makes decisions and plans in advance because they don’t have to. It’s a huge swing in thought processes.
Back when I was a kid we had the Golden Book encyclopedias. I read them like a book.
I did to but couldn’t get past C.
LOL
Ha. We used to have to ask our parents or older siblings, who usually didn’t know but just made some shit up.
remember when Brady got hurt week 1 in 2008 and Matt Cassel led the Patriots to 11-5 and they missed the playoffs? stacked AFC that year. Division winners all had 11+ wins, and the wild card teams were Colts (12-4) and Ravens (11-5)
Not sure why Ravens had the tie-breaker over the Patriots.
Meanwhile the Cardinals won their division at 9-7.
I believe that’s the year the Vikings got beaten in Minnesota by the Eagles in the wildcard round and Birk’s last play as a Viking was a fumble. (sigh)
What’s youtube?
Telebitchin for old people
Yep, T-Jack sucked in that game (shocker!).
Dislike
Can’t be true. I was told the Vikings suck.
FTFY
Bingo, we are sucking our way to the playoffs this season
I’ll make you a deal, Kodiak.
If you agree to never reply to any of my comments..
I will agree to only reply to your intelligent comments.
That way, we never have to speak to each other again.
Does anyone know the measure of “success” on first down?
@shut up and accept it@
i believe they measure it in 10+ yard increments. anything 10 yards or more is a success
I’m going to assume that getting 4 yards or something like that would be a “success”. Getting into a desirable situation with the play. 2nd and 6 or better would seem to be desirable.
I can sum this conversation up quite simply, “none of us know shit”
Exactly! We specialize in rampant speculation.
87% of us are speculators, the others are BS artists!
Likey
Last night my home workstation finally went live. Could be a blessing or a curse. I guess if I really wanted to I could demand to work from home every day and become a big fat turd.
So weird, there is a subset of the program (Centricity Universal Viewer) I use to view studies called the navigator pane, has all the sequences in a small window that lives (on my work computer) in a locked position in the upper left corner of my LH diagnostic monitor. I just “reach” up there to pull down sequences as needed. When I finished firing up my home workstation, the navigator was sitting right in the middle of the screen. Had to put in a ticket to IT, she remoted in on Bomgar about 6:30. We struggled with it for an hour. The problem as it turned out was that in display manager, the “5” screens I had needed to be aligned vertically across the top before the navigator would allow itself to be dropped at the top. The screens looked perfectly aligned just looking at them live. We adjusted and adjusted pixel by pixel each screen alignment and it wouldn’t work. Finally we just shuffled them and placed them all out of whack and then pulled them back into alignment. That worked.
Somewhere a Microsoft developer is laughing.
Is this at your shouse? Isn’t that out in the middle of nowhere? Do they run fiber out to lots of out-of-the-way places in that area…or is it wireless?
My workplace is starting fiber drops in a rural area, so that is why I was wondering.
We use StarLink for all our personal needs. Yes, the local ISP (MidRivers) is doing fiber install to all the rural sites, I believe it is a federal mandate to have fiber installed for rural usage. Helps that I have pestered my neighbor (US congress) and senators for months to get me access.
There are four homes included in this branch of the fiber network. My install was prioritized as it is a rural health access issue.
Here is my super fancy home office complete with low ceiling a midget would love. My personal computer is to the right and even further to the right off screen is my Vikings and XBox cave that I can view while sitting in the recliner, also off frame.

Those 2 on the right are broken
Narf narf that’s the setup that Can’t Read Good helped me install with a few words of advice on here, for my home computer.
how low is that ceiling?
suggested: warm lighting and something to absorb some sound on those walls
If I was working I would turn off the shop UFO lights that are creating that harsh glare on the right of the image. That “SoftGlow” wall lighting off the back of the monitor makes viewing studies much easier on the eyes.
It’s a temporary office until our addition gets built in 2036.
Ceiling is about 5’2″.
I’m really curious about this little space. Is it in a loft? if not, what’s above it?
This is our storage area, we put in the “mezzanine” for storage and my home office/football viewing/XBox area. The pic I took above is from the perspective just above the recliner.

Sweet, nice work!
Cold in the winter?????
I usually am. Thanks for asking.
sweat like a whore in church all summer
That’s not a home office. That is a command center.
Fancy
Are you sure that’s an office and not an outpost from which you control your personal fleet of war drones?
He has remote controlled perimeter guns, for the “coyotes”.
It is amazing, good or bad, as to what developers are thinking when they create stuff.
this whole thumbs-up / thumbs-down thing is confusing. I briefly waded into yesterday’s thread to see the commentary on it and retreated rather quickly. Yikes, you guys!
Thumbs up is good. Thumbs down is bad. It’s kind of simple.
Skolly didnt like that people were down voting his not so good hot takes so he wanted it to show up votes too and he wants to know whose downvoting him. (Its me)
lol I don’t even use the thumbs up or down. I could care less
That sounds like the response of somebody who is super worried about people giving his posts a thumbs up and who will be asking for a tally of thumbs up received at the end of the year.
FFS are you retarded? It’s could not care less!!
He actually meant could care less because he stays up at night worrying about the number of thumbs up and down he receives.
Dam millennials/gen xers/ gen yers/gen zers
How is it confusing? If you like a comment give thumbs up, if you don’t then give it thumbs down.
Or if its good and you’re jealous you didn’t think of it, down vote it to make yours look betterer.
Bingo!
Yeah that too
dislike
Thumbs up!
Did you also struggle with the game Red Light/Green Light?
A coworker has been putting off going to the dentist for awhile because he knew it would be bad. He finally had no choice but to go in.
His estimate: $11,000.
Take care of your teeth, kids, and visit the dentist regularly so issues don’t pile up.
not to mention poor dental hygiene dramatically reduces life expectancy
MT, is that true?
I think I have heard that poor dental hygiene and heart disease have a correlation, yes. We need doctor confirmation, though.
Poor dental health can cause infections and/or inflammation of the gums. Cytokines (cell to cell signal molecules) associated with chronic inflammation are associated with lower life expectancy.
MT probably has seen CRP results, which is a broad range marker.
Basically tells you there’s inflammation somewhere.
The IL markers are more disease specific. These are often involved in cellular transformation, and this could potentially open up a pathway to cancer (more cells transforming more likely something goes a sideways).
TLDR:
Inflammation bad.
My brother’s neighbor has a bunch of his land in the CRP program. Great place for the pheasant to live.
I’ve probably shot more pheasants out of CRP land than in any other.
My brother had a millet field that he didn’t combine one year. That winter, we had the best pheasant hunting ever in that field in that tall millet.
nice. CRP by soybeans was something I would keep an I out for myslef. Not a lot of millet fields where I hunted.
My brother is a rancher, only cattle & horses, but does put up some hay. His neighbors are all farmers, looked like they planted mostly wheat this year.
great for wild life terrible for taxpayers
And actually, the bill is even more. He also needs an implant in front, but that is covered by work comp. That is why he went in. A tooth be broke at work a few years ago finally broke again and needed fixing.
So he needs $11,000 worth of work in addition to the implant.
Do his teeth look like this or what?

There’s a walk in dental center here that used to (maybe still does) give somebody new teeth once a month. They would then put that person on their commercials and show their work. I don’t remember what they called it, maybe MT does, but we called it Meth Mouth of the Month.
Not quite that bad. That guy is probably around $55,000 if he wants a whole new set of chompers.
Here’s a fun link if you want to show your kids why brushing (and not doing drugs) is important. I admittedly have less than perfect dental hygiene but my chompers are solid and I haven’t had a cavity in over 20 years. I also don’t eat much sugar and couldn’t tell you the last time I had a soda.
I have about a cavity a year, and I do eat a lot of sugar, so that is probably why. I have cut back, but it is one of my vices.
I think the sugar makes a huge difference. My wife is much more religious about brushing her teeth, but she also loves any and all sweets. She has a cavity about once a year.
I don’t eat much sugar, and I brush regularly, at least twice a day.
I have a specific problem, that not many dental hi! gene! schools recognize any more, but they used to.
That’s that in my day, a lot of dentists and stores gave out or sold hard-bristled toothbrushes.
That’s what I grew up on and I brushed and brushed and it thoroughly destroyed my gums. It’s a friggin struggle with my teef every day.
That’s why you only see soft and the occasional medium bristles now.
Generally yes.
But I eat sugar all of the time.
I have 3 total cavities at 60 years old.
I brush my teeth once a day.
Genetics is a large factor.
I blame sugar. Especially sugary beverages. We had “Pop-Shop” soda plus mountain dew and coke all stocked up unless it was a bad month and we were poor.
I got a paper route when 10 years old. Used the collection money for pinball and soda at the pharmacy after school each day. next dentist appointment I had 11 cavities.
Only change was more soda. Still brushed my teeth twice per day and we also had a water pick thing.
Wife has zero fillings. Her family did not have pop in the house growing up.
Sugar beverages could very well be it.
I do not drink soda pop.
I drink water, beer and shots.
I drink water, beer and shots.
Good plan
Agreed. As Benjamin Franklin said, “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.”
I don’t drink pop, either. Water and coffee for me nowadays.
I lied. I drink coffee everyday.
But that is basically water.
Is that Hunter Biden?
Yes sir. The honest upstanding citizen who has never made any shady business deals based on his last name.
I’m not spending 11k unless it has an engine in it…
what about the best full-home sound system money can buy? What if it’s a 19k system that’s 40% off??
That, too. Good point.
Took me a minute to think of it. I’m not sure there’s much I’d plunk down 11k for that doesn’t have an engine.
A trip to Disney World
I think the dentist has announced that he can retire after he finishes with the guy’s treatment.
Well, I know it does in dogs. So the vet tells me. I brush and scrape my dog’s teeth every week.
I know women w/dentures who take their teeth out often enough to live a long long time
gross. just gross…
it’s amazing what brushing twice a day and flossing sometimes can do for ones dental health
I floss once every 6 months
At the dentist office?
Bingo
LOL
I floss 2 or 3 times every six months.
The week leading up to my appointment, to make the flossing easier for the hygienist.
I floss a couple of times a week. No need to go crazy, but then I can answer the dentist’s question with a clear conscience.
I floss every evening, but I also have retainers, so I don’t want to trap goop in my teeth every night when I put on my retainers. I had invisiline done back in my 30s because my teeth were crazy crooked.
but do you brush twice a day?
yup. and I go to the dentist for a cleaning every 6 months.
one cavity in 41 years so far. good german enamel.
A relative of mine was an officer in the Army during the Bosnia deployment…We had sent National Guard troops over there along with regular Army. When they got there, they all received Army provided Medical care. When bus with the Arkansas National Guard arrived to the deployment area they all headed to the Army Dentist for their free dental care. He said it was awful, most of them had never been to the dentist before.
Yikes. That must suck to live with constant teeth issues. It is amazing how something as small as a bad tooth can mess up a person’s day.
$11,000? Are they replacing his whole head?
Might not be a bad idea considering his choices put him in the predicament.
i laughed out loud while on the phone with a cusotmer when i read this
you’re fired!
My wife and I take very good care of our teeth. I was bad and went 8 years without visiting a dentist but good teeth and good hygiene meant there was nothing to see.
Holy moley
This is Cousins first game in DC since leaving for Minny.
He will be out for blood and revenge. He’ll put up 3 or 4 TDs with 2 from Cook and Matty. It just depends on how the defense plays.
offense and defense will play like and look like shit, but we still win.
Derp. Our GM sucks and everyone he signs suckzzzzzzzzz and he lost all the tradez and we’ll be 1-16. Derp.
Luckiest shit team in the nfl
Thanks, FTP
Daunte Culpepper is not a Vikings Legend. Dislike.
he’s not even close to the best QB we have had……….
i mean i can name dozens better
mannion
keenum
bradford
hill
bridgewater
cassel
ponder
freeman
mcnabb
favre
jackson
webb
frerotte
holcomb
bollinger
johnson
culpepper
bouman
wynn
george
cunningham
moon
salisbury
mcmahon
gannon
wilson
kramer
adams
manning
dils
tarkenton
kee
berry
cuozzo
snead
kapp
vander kelen
shaw
ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL way better
you know you like that list. all from memory………………….
I have no clue who some of them are.
oh me either. over half of them i was like who?
and then 25% i laughed when i typed their name with how bad they were hahahahaha
I’ve seen almost every one of them play, except maybe Vander Killem and Sneeze
i knew some of you old farts would remember some of them names
We rarely have a career QB around here.
Have to rent ’em and forget ’em.
That’s a great memory Freeze.
I know and remember all of them with the exception of 5.
I assume kee was supposed to be Bob Lee.
That’s an average of 1.6 years per QB.
You don’t remember Five? He’s only been gone a couple of days.
The elk got him…
yes my computer has a large memory
I will always remember Steve Dils because in junior high, way after Dils was long gone, we were talking about the Vikings, and one guy who rarely spoke, totally dead-pan says, “We need Steve Dils back.”
You had to be there, but it was a killer joke!
Anyone remember when Salisbury shaved a Christmas tree in the back of his head?
I also remember one game where Salisbury came in early in the game for whoever was injured and promptly threw for 250 yards before halftime. He was on fire.
Yeah I remember Salisbury and the tree. He really sucked at Quarterbacking but had like 1, maybe 2 decent games in his career. I remember him most from Battle Bots and he was also in The Benchwarmers, which is fitting.
Freezy, thats quite a list of QBs. And it is exactly why I am happy with cousins. Where would you list him on the list of Vikings QBs? Its really hard to do because the game as changed so much over the years. Is Tarkenton #1?
Is Cousins top 10?
depends on what you’re ranking. W/L record? longevity? talent?
I think Bradford was the most physically talented QB we had. If we’d gotten his 2016 injury luck in 2017 we would’ve gone to the Super Bowl.
Agree.
Culp was great but made some bone-headed plays. Hardly anyone else but Tark and Kramer stuck around long enough to have a legacy.
A lot of people attribute Culpepper’s success to Moss, which is understandable, but I think a big part of it was Matt Birk, who read the defense presnap and directed traffic
That Birk guy, didn’t he go to Hahvard?
that’s the rumor
didn’t visit the white house when the ravens won the SB, LOL
Might be Lute Guv in a week!
I voted at the county courthouse today, was busy as a herd of beavers in a footstep puddle.
I never liked Culpepper that much. It might be because I didn’t like they drafted him instead of Kearse. We were already loaded on offense.
Culpepper had small hands.
Eggslusher’s a huge Birk fan.
Dude was throwing to two future hall-of-famers, plus also had Jake Reed as his WR3, and Robert Smith out of the backfield. Ponder could have thrived in that offense.
Was Walsh there at that time? I liked him when I was a kid. I remember them showing him on the sideline with a big bandage on his head because he had some sort of surgery that week and then played on Sunday.
Man, that could be, he played somewhere around that time frame.
That’s about when I started watching and Walsh and Griffith were my favorite players.
Wikipedia says he was with the Vikings from 1994-2002 and played an entire game with a broken jaw. I don’t see anything about the head surgery thing but I remember seeing him on the sideline with gauze taped to his head.
And Chilli was dumb enough to let Birk walk. So he won his Superbowl wearing the wrong shade of purple.
i have never seen any of the qb’s pre 90’s play.
i mean highlights maybe, but never seen them.
so my list would have to start post 1990 (That’s for all the rabble rabble old guys who will be like UHHH TARKETONNNNNN)
Cousins is absolutely the best Qb statistically we have had and it’s not even close.
culpepper maybe 2nd? he had some BADDDDDDDDDD years
2009 favre has probably been the best single Qb year we have had since Cunningham 1998 IMO
The Tark benefitted from some pretty damn good defenses and he had stud receivers (Cousins does too). Is Cousins better than Tommy Kramer?? Coin Flip….
never seen kramer, can’t compare them in my mind.
others can though.
Stat wise, Tarkenton was the all time leader.
No comparison.
When he retired, he had all of the NFL records.
Of course, passer rating, was invented in the 90’s.
It is a coin flip on Kramer.
Two minute Tommy won alot of games at the end.
Cousins is only now starting to do it the last 2 years.
I’d lean toward Kramer being better.
Their records are similar, but Cousins has had a better team around him. Kramer was on some bad teams (he was QB during the Les Steckel year).
Kramer did have some shit teams around him…I would lean towards Kramer as well.
What do the stats say?
The eras are too different to do a straight stats comparison.
Correct.
But in his era, Tarkenton was dominant.
Completions
Passing yards.
Passing TDs.
Rushing Yards by a QB.
That Johnson, Holcomb, Bollinger stretch was bad.
I remember one of those games with Johnson, though. We were playing the Panthers and somehow won despite all appearances to the contrary. Peppers was an absolute beast that day. Vikings were triple-teaming him and he was tearing us apart. He was on such another level that I wondered if they dosed him with horse hormones before the game.
who was playing in the game where we beat the Giants 24-21 thanks to a kick return, a punt return, and an interception return?
I think that was a Brad Johnson game.
I think you might be right. I want to look it up now.
Brad Johnson. Also it was Darren Sharper with a pick 6, Mewelde Moore with a punt return TD, and Koren Robinson with a kick return TD.
I still think about Koren sometimes. He had talent, but driving back to Mankato while drunk doing a 100 is generally not a good idea.
Yeah, he was dumb. I hate thinking about the fact Darren Sharper was on the Vikings.
wow, I remember Koren Robinson
love boat year that year, LOL
I kinda liked Gus Frerotte
Me too, and Cassel
LOL, Hat Cassel
Me three, liked both as well.
He was kind of flamboyant but not really that good.
where’s Sage Rosenfels? Did he never start?
must not of?
I remember most of those up to Tark.
Cuozzo and Lee were the worst of the worst. We wasted our defense when they couldn’t throw or score for crap.
i remember Norm Snead, the defense usually scored more than the offense.
Wait…where’s John David Booty on this list? GOAT
I don’t think he ever started a game.
I was just looking for an excuse to say John David Booty.
Bring back Geno Torretta!
Ah, the good old names of Viking’s mediocracy.
This is a nice list. But it´s missing The Highlander! McLeod Bethel-Thompson!
Does this mean it’s almost time to buy a Cousins jersey?
You don’t have at least 2 yet? The only question now should be is it time to add a color rush jersey to my purple and white ones.
Do it! I own a #22 color rush jersey, love it.
Biden’s America
Go against democrats, you get deported.
Anybody else, they get cashless bail to further commit more crimes.
When they deport him, they’ll probably say “Take off, eh”
So, Joseph seemed to have his poop in a group until the season started, then he kinda went to shit.
This hasn’t been mentioned, but what if the holder is the issue? Wright is the new piece in the puzzle, so it’s an obvious first place to look when there are struggles.
Thoughts?
Joseph wasn’t good to begin with. He was about league average last year, a little below avg with PATs and a little above average in FGs. It’s not like he’s some young developing player either. I have not noticed any issues with the holder like laces in, but I don’t pay that much attention either. Even when he had his poop in a group he was still missing PATs. Joseph just sucks.
Can’t argue with any of that.
Hope I’m wrong and he starts making all his kicks though.
Sure, so do I. I just have zero confidence any time he lines up for a kick, and it pisses me off.
The article is from a fantasy perspective, but some interesting stuff here anyway:
seems like we might be in for a shootout
The term shootout will soon be cancelled.
Imbalance
It’s beaker, so a shartout
Eating DOTS candy is a fun way to superglue your mouth shut.
True.
I love DOTS !!
Dots are gross.
Sugar bombs, yuck
I have no problem passing on regular dots, but the tropical ones are really good.
Hot Tamales are my favorite.
Yeah I like those too, but I think Mike & Ike’s are bullshit.
Absolutely.
Once again Viking-Phil, you are wrong.
I used to pick out the green ones and eat those first since they are terrible.
then enjoy the rest of the box.
Agreed.
I usually eat the green and yellow first.
Then the rest.
This is the way.
My wife and I fight over the red ones.
If I leave half of a box for another day, the red ones are gone by the time I get to them. @I would never do that@
Yes, discipline is what separates us from the beasts. Eating the good colors first is forbidden.
Unless it is Skittles or Starburst. Eff the yellow!
I used to do that with Skittles. Then they changed the green to some really gross flavor and I won’t eat those now at all. Actually I really don’t eat much candy any more.
Had a buddy in college who use to put those up his girlfriends twat and then eat them out of it. One time he lost one and never found it😂
This makes me smile.
football outsiders ranks the pukers’ special teams as 2nd worst
(Miami is worst)
Packers fans:
And I love it.
Garrett should still be in jail for attempted murder.
Pretty much used an ICBM on that dude, he should be at Guantanamo.
Yeah, just put him to death.
Will our shiny new TE play this week?
The guy is a gamer, so I’d like to see him get a few simple passes to take the pressure off JJ and others.
I’m guessing they’ll have a package of plays installed for him but I don’t think he’ll play all that much, it’ll take time for him to get up to speed.
Yeah, I’d be worried if I were Mundt and whoever else we got, that they won’t get many shots…
Isn’t Mundt the only other TE on the roster.
Ellefson and Hollister o believe.
Hmmm, current Viking’s depth chart doesn’t show them. Did we release them or move them?
Ok, Ellefson went on IR
Hollister might or might not still be elevated to the 53. He was for the Cards, but not showing now.
Ellefson on IR, never heard of Hollister.
Yes
Hollister and Muse are on the PS.
serious question. why?
because our system is so different and he is learning verbiage and plays etc?
i feel like he will play a decent amount, has he been playing all year for the toilets?
hes like Kirk and has a new OC every year.. he should be able to catch up but I’d use him situationally to start…
Seems like a good YAC guy.
That helps with Kirk’s dumpomatic percentage completion rate.
Yeah he can get those… has a couple of huge plays this year.. like 81&57 yards.
but he’s a guy taken 8 overall in the draft.
hes no schlub.
can you imagine what it would’ve cost to move to 8 in 2019?
not what we sent
But he was drafted too early. Most people thought of him as a 12 – 16 guy. I was hoping we would get him back then
We were screaming for C that draft we weren’t going TE.
and we got SUPER IRV.
now we have both…
kinda like JJ and Reagor.
except Reagor isn’t doing good.
Still hoping he’s a late season super weapon.
They’re biding their time and will unleash him when needed and nobody sees it coming.
Kinda like the Spanish Inquisition
Yes he has to learn an entirely new playbook with completely different language.
Hock block.
Hock run.
Hock catch.
Hock score TD.
Hock get us out of hock
There. Pretty easy.
“Find a hole, wave your arms, catch it if Kirk throws it to you.”
This, he will play. And I bet will have RZ plays just for him. He gets a Td
Liked
Yeah but probably less than 10 snaps if I had to guess. Likely will only know like 25% of the playbook
First she shoots Greedo, now she gets a DUI.
New body camera footage shows Hope Solo’s DWI arrest from March 2022 (msn.com)
Who’s greedo?
The guy that Hope Solo shot.
I never heard of her shooting anyone. That is pretty sad about her being arrested for DUI with children in the car.
It was at a bar, a pretty rough joint, so it’s not shocking that it happened there.
Rough place for sure.
Do you have a link?
But who shot first?
Well, Hillary has already questioned the 2024 outcome.
If the dems lose control of both houses, it will be the dems questioning the outcome of election.
I swear, George Soros is paying people based on being a hypocrite.
I’m praying for bad weather on Tuesday
Republicans go do stuff rain or shine
Dems have already mailed in their 73 ballots each.
In Biden’s speech, he said it might take days to count ballots.
Usually, the President rallies the troops to get out the vote a week out.
Biden is actually telling people that the results won’t be known for days.
How does he know?
there is no logical explanation for why.
third world countries count them faster.
they have counted em the day of for longer than any of us have been alive.
it does not create trust when this stuff happens…. And without trust there will always be questions of legitimacy no matter the winner
Obviously computers make things less efficient. Paper ballots can be counted the day of because thousands of people spread across the country counting paper ballots is more efficient than computers tallying everything, sending them to the dems or China for approval and waiting for that approval before spitting out a “final” tally.
They have to see how many ballots need to be fabricated after the initial counts…thats why it takes so long.
Indeed
many of them are procrastinators
What I think is funny, is anyone questioning elections is also questioning the legitimacy of their own position. It’s funny how both sides only have issues when the other side wins. Just another example of the problem with party loyalty politics. Instead of getting to think for yourself. And go, Hilary, you are a crooked POS, quit it. And go Trump, you are mob rabble rousing POS, quit it.
So if I “think for myself” and vote democrat I’m an idiot?
If I “think for myself” and vote republican I’m an idiot?
You have to vote for somebody. Right?
Party loyalty is the issue. It’s I’m ALWAYS going to vote red or ALWAYS going to vote blue. And no, there are other parties and candidates out there to vote for.
Just curious.
If you believe most of what the dems want, why you would you ever vote for a republican? or vice versa?
This is the problem, I truly believe people pick a side THEN decide what they believe. They get roped in by 1 issue like guns, abortion etc… then they attach their identity to it so they have to defend the party as a whole. It’s truly what is allowing our democracy to get to damn corrupt.
This is the most accurate thing I’ve seen you post all year here.
It will also be labelled as false.
That’s definitely NOT what I do.
I have numerous issues. Then I pick the candidate who supports those issues.
I believe the overwhelming majority of voters do what I do.
I don’t think it’s anywhere close to what you described.
Some do sure. But most have several issues.
What else are voters supposed to do?
Vote for another candidate because they don’t want to be a “partly line voter”?
I like to party. Not sure about the “line” thing.
Nose beers are no bueno.
I know what things I like and don’t like and vote for the person who is most likely to make those things happen. It’s not blindly following a party when the party blindly follows itself and goes against everything I find most important.
Yep.
I am almost 100% against what one political party stands for. Yet I’m supposed to NOT vote for the party I want? I’m labeled as an idiot for supporting one party because that is what I believe?
Being “independent” is code for not knowing what you believe.
Some people are….”A reed shaken with the wind”.
The party over everything problem is rooted in the politicians, not the voting public. If all the D’s vote the same on every single issue and all the R’s vote the same on every single issue, then you will get people voting for a party instead of individuals because there are no individuals to vote for.
I think some politicians get elected because they think they can go to Washington and make some changes. Then they get there and their parties leadership tells them, tow the line or you will not get to be on any influential committees and when you come up for election next time, don’t expect any funding from us. It’s the system, not necessarily the individual politicians. When you are in that kind of system you either get jaded fast or you just try to do the best you can within the system.
I agree… what’s the one power we have to fix that system? Everyone get on the same page that we want the ridiculous amounts of money running our elections out of our elections. If everyone stood together on that, that we wanted corruption and money out of politics and that’s it. For a few election cycles, they’d have to cater to there. But instead the Republicans will scream taxes and abortion and guns.. and the Dems will yell racists, my body my choice, environment… all the while the people “representing” those people don’t care about any of those ideals and just keep swindling the country.
If you always do what you always did then you’ll always get what you always got.
How do those politicians get in office? It’s on us the voter if we want change.
Please tell me what the Democratic party stands for that you’re so against (I am expecting a very biased FOX News answer here). Because I don’t think they stand for shit other than pretending to care about peace, the environment, etc… because we all know they don’t actually give a shit or support any of those things.
Then tell me what it is that the Republican Party cares so much about. Again, don’t say less government that’s a lie, don’t say less taxes, that’s a lie, don’t say gun rights, that’s a lie. Just like the Dems, they say the words but don’t actually stand for anything. So we need to shake shit up.
I ask myself why is there unbridled corruption in so many states… Well, the Dems know they’ll get the party line Dem voters and Republicans will get the party line Republican voters no matter what they do for the most part. And you are lying to yourself or in denial if you don’t think this is the case.
I mean what items are you so aligned with with the Republican party? They raise taxes, the NRA owns them and the NRA doesn’t give a shit about gun rights, they care about gun manufacturer’s bottom line. Is just an abortion thing? Because what do you think the Republican party actually stands for? They care about 1 thing… their party prospering to pay back their campaign donners. This is basic shit. I refuse to just accept and vote them back in.
I am actually excited at the notion of SD getting flipped from Red to Blue because of what a corrupt POS Krusty Gnome is. I would be just as ecstatic to see a state like CA go from blue to red because without change things only get worse. Sure things can get worse with change but they don’t get better without it.
Always is a strong word, but the Democrats have not presented a platform that I’ve wanted to vote for in….well my whole lifetime. I may not agree with the whole Republican platform, but I’m also not going to throw my vote away by voting for someone that is a third party and is not going to get even close to being elected.
Yep.
There is a pretty stark contrast in what either side claims they want. Why voting for one party because those values are what you want is considered bad I don’t understand.
You are not “better” because you don’t vote a party line.
I would argue you have no clue if you vote for both parties.
Divided we are conquered. Glad you are cool with that. I’m not.
It is idealistic to change a system that is not working the best.
It is fooling to run at windmills.
Here’s the problem. A democrats platform means the exact same thing as the republican’s platform… nothing. They don’t make good on hardly anything, just enough to say they did a thing or two. But then why do they get voted back in? Because of party loyalty, because the other side is worse. Change starts with us, not the politicians we elected. So keep believing you have to vote for a party that see’s their agenda as bigger than the country’s prosperity.
Edge, just so you know….
The living God of the universe appeared to me last night and told be to vote straight Republican ticket…so that is what I am going to do.
Dude, you too?
Someone tell Ben to stop fucking with people!
Are you sure he told you to vote straight Republican and not gay Republican lol.
Some toe tapping in an airport bathroom kinda guy?
HAHA!
Well played sir…well played.
I don’t even know what you are talking about.
I was going to say more, but by time I do there will be a new thread and it will be pointless.
I am saying you are voting for a party that only cares about their own agenda. They don’t care about you, me or this country. And you are supporting that.
Final score on Sunday…
Vikings 30
Some other team 28
I think the Vikings win.
But not nearly that many points will be scored.
20-17
Another nailbitter to the end. Vikes win by 4
I can see the Redskins being flat this week, given their last minute win last week, and against Philly next week. Skins defense is solid though.
I still see a grinder game.
I would bet the under 43.
it was an emotional win for the pronouns, and on the road too – great time to return home and lay an egg
Yep.
Vikes win by 4 but it could have been by 7 but of course Joseph misses a FG.
really? I’m thinking the score might look more like the game against the Cardinals
Outside and on grass.
Vikings historically don’t perform well in those elements.
The weather does look fantastic though out here.
Partly Cloudy and 75 on Sunday.
Vikings win 41-10
We need a real good asskicking win
We do, my heart could use a break for one week.
“Some other team…”
That is who they are playing for me. I honestly don’t know who they are playing. The Zimmer years really killed my interest in the team. I started watching the first quarter last week and fell asleep.
Vikes 17
Other team 10
Za’Darius Smith NFC Defensive Player of the Month….
Big news for me this morning (well, I found out yesterday afternoon, but they made the announcement this morning). Our parent corporation is going to be selling the subsidiary company that I work for. This’ll be big news, we’re the 4th-largest electrical contractor in the US. Praying that they’ll offer me early retirement.
Everyone is nervous, I seem to be the only one who is happy about this news.
Hope it works out.
It’s hard to sell big companies… who would they sell it to?
I’m guessing one of the big guys. Quanta is the biggest, so I could see Rosendin or MYR try to buy us to knock Quanta off of the top spot.
Hopefully not some dufus New York investment partnership, like is all the rage at the moment, since they just keep getting richer and richer.
I doubt we’d sell to private equity, seriously doubt it’ll happen.
Nothing worse than private equity buying up the sporting goods brands I’ve always liked.
The list is endless… Penn, Abu Garcia, Pflueger, etc…
Moved up 99 cents now… nice!
Told ya’
I still have some shares, didn’t sell it all.
I have a shit load of stock in MDU. I more than doubled my holdings earlier this year, & it’s paid off handsomely (I bought in at $25).
Excellent!
99 cents will barely make up for the 70 cents down yesterday, and we’ve got the futures headed significantly lower.
Creepy’s speech and the fed raising rates yesterday both sucked.
Market will take a gigantic shit today. MDU stock will not.
Stock price went up by over 6% the day we announced the Knife River divestiture. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that happen again today.
Pure Fishing, Inc. They own everything from Abu Garcia, Spiderwire, Gulp, Berekley. ect.
Curious to watch our stock price at opening bell. If it reacts as well as it did to the Knife River news, I’m going to have a REALLY good day.
I’ve been waiting for it to really want to move north to buy. Sold at like 33 but it’s been stuck in the 27’s and 28’s for quite a while with a short blip up to 31.
Up 13 cents or .46% premarket.
I have a feeling that the news will create a spike. Investors have been wanting this for a long time, they’ll react favorably, IMO.
I’m not a fan of chopping up companies to “unlock value” but sometimes companies have to change up things.
That didn’t work out for GE, which is now down to a shadow of it’s former self.
China
Lol is everyone whispering?
Kinda, it’s really quiet in here, other than me singing & whistling & stuff.
I’ve had that “Bringing home my baby bumble bee” song in my head all morning, can’t stop singing it.
That’s exciting! You’ve been there a long time, I’d expect a blue collar company in a red state to take good care of their best people.
I’ve been in the corporation for over 10 years, been at this company and this current position for over 9 years.
Crazy. Same sort of stuff happening here – I have 2 relatives working for Nestle – the one building set up to make baby formula just got sold to another company that wants to get into the dry powder baby formula business.
Building, equipment, employees – all sold.
Hope everything works out for you.
Morning skolflakes
Does Hunter get paid like that?
He’s due 4.9 in salary
600k in bonuses
7.6 in restructure….
and has an 18.8 dead cap hit with 2 more void years.
hes 29… What do they do?
I would guess they let it ride unless there is a serious trade offer in the future. I would assume a 2nd rounder is the minimum. I doubt he is going anywhere.
I think they may try to extend him. Those void years are abhorrible.
Hunters not a FA next year is he? I doubt they pay him if he’s not
Does he hold out?
Maybe. But IIRC, holding out into the season forfeits an accrued season with significant fines.
Hunter is due $13.1 million next year, then he has two void years in 2024 & 2025 at $5.62 million each year (Rick should be castrated).
He’s already got 6 kids?
True, the damage has already been done.
Thorsday!
You’ll make this much on your chickens after the election and a new round of inflation.
Think how many chickens o could get?
Could even but part of the commies.
Lottery trends are an excellent study in the stupidity of humans. When the odds go from laughable to fatal, more people buy tickets.
The odds don’t really change, though. There is a set number of possible winning number combinations, that doesn’t change. You may have more people buying tickets, but the odds of winning remain about the same, you would think.
The only good strategy in lottery is to pick numbers that are unusual or rarely used. That way you have the same chance of winning, but less chance of having to share
roughly the same chance as throwing a ball bearing from a commercial airliner at 30,000 feet and hitting, say, an egg sandwich
I’d throw it at Mick’s henshouse, which would give me better odds
if you hit the Walz poster, you win a boat
They set the odds at something like 300 million to 1
And when the number of tickets climbs above there are multiple possible winners.
put it this way – there are odds that someone wins, and there are odds that no one wins. The best outcome for 99.9999997% of ticket buyers is that no one wins, and the odds of that outcome reduce when more people play.
You’re only saying this so fewer people buy tickets and the odds you win increase.
LOL no
Yep.
But you can’t win if you don’t enter.
It’s pretty much zero percent for any one ticket to win when the jackpot is $5 million too.
I just buy one ticket.
$2 bucks for a zero percent chance to win seems reasonable.
$3 now. Not sure when it changed. I haven’t bought a ticket for a long time but did with some coworkers yesterday.
2 bucks in Minniescrewya
How can it be different from state to state?
I was a little harsh when I threw out terms like “stupidity” – betting for fun is fine when it’s money you can afford to lose and isn’t being hidden from a spouse or anything
I do feel bad for the people who set a disproportionate amount of hope on winning the lottery, though.
When I tended bar, I used to watch people put hundreds into the pull tab machine, and these were people who didn’t make that much in a week. Sad.
Same with Black Jack…I like to play 40 dollars worth of black jack every now and then just for fun…so depressing to see people you know that can’t afford it to drop 300 or 400 dollars in a sitting….
Yeah, I used to love playing blackjack when I drank. II also had a $40 maximum. There were nights when playing blackjack was how I funded my booze for the evening.
Its always nice when a plan comes together….
Went down for the Vikes last weekend. On saturday gambled at Mystic lake….Won about 70 dollars playing black Jack, drank about 30 dollars worth, Transportation out and back cost me about 30…I am calling it a win.
Nice, definitely a win.
Yep. I buy a lottery ticket maybe once a year or so. I think today will be that day.
I may go buy one today, just for the halibut.
Now I want fish…
Me too.
For breakfast?
I couldn’t even eat fish for breakfast when I was a commercial fisherman.
So make lunch instead? I often eat breakfast in the evening, so why not have lunch in the morning.
I love fish for breakfast. Best breakfast ever was fish pan fried while camping in the BWCA.
Ohhhhhh, you can’t beat a shore
lunchbreakfast.Yeah, love it for lunch. I’ve tried all kinds of shore lunch batterings, and love almost all of them.
Yeah, there’s really no wrong answer when it comes to Shore Lunch.
if you win, I expect $10 per comment I’ve made on Skoloholics so far
If I would ever win that thing, quite a few people would receive cash and they’d have no clue where it came from or who sent it.
That’s my idea, too.
That would be my superpower: The DarkCasher
that sounds like fun, Ebenezer
Do you have my address?
dibs
Curious here….do you guys actually support phasing out social security something you’ve paid in to your entire careers??? Most elderly live on fixed incomes and a large percent near the poverty level, this throws them below the poverty level. We want to do this to ourselves and our elderly??
A lot of Republicans want to replace it with a viable market-based plan, not this current thing that’s completely insolvent and will literally take our whole budget due to the government stealing all it’s assets for decades.
I think it’s sad we have destroyed the family unit and devalue anyone who cannot make money for the machine.
This is a salient point. Use to be as parents aged the children would care for them in their homes where they were raised. Now unfortunately it was typically put on the daughters to give up their career or personal aspirations to stay behind and care for the aging parents while the men went on to work and do what they wanted. Society and building families has changed as has the occupational workforce forcing or setting a social expectation for mothers to be active full time in the workplace even if they choose not to and or are raising children thus the aging parents are left without options. If social security needs revamped and hopefully not eliminated why not give incentives for children to stay behind and care for the aging and help eliminate multiple issues at the same time.
Yup, around here most of the old folks give all their money to nursing and long-term care facilities instead of their kids, but most houses are not designed for multi-generational families.
Seems like a huge change in generational transfer.
Old people used to be viewed favorably for their knowledge. Medical advancements hve all but guaranteed longer lifer regardless of lifestyle.
I Believe in multigenerational homes. And see benefits to them.
SS is kind of a crock… and like the school vouchers should follow the individual
Im not wiping my parents asses when they get to the age where they cant do it any more. Dont get me wrong, I hope they stay healthy and can be with each other and live on their own well into the glory years, but if one of more declines, im not dropping my life to take care of them. I will gladly help pay, along with my sibling to get them into a proper facility.
That’s easier said than done these days. Hope they didn’t sign up with an HMO. HMOs lose money paying for facility care. They’d rather pay for someone to go into the home a few times a day and help……which isn’t always enough.
Wow.
There’s something to be said about the mentality differences between parent-aged people who have kids and those who do not.
Or some people are just wired different.
sure, it’s not one-to-one
Yea
The question is how long it takes to “phase out”. I do not think anyone is talking about cutting off seniors who need it. I have contributed to SS for 40 years now. I also aggressively contribute to my 401k as well. While the SS contributions have been higher than the 401K contributions, my 401K has much more money than My SS return will be. So government bureaucracy and waste, have made my SS contributions about 40% “less effective” than comparable 40K investments. That means if we did away with SS and that same contribution were funneled into a 401K-like investment, smart people would do much, much better
SS was never suppose to compete with the returns of your 401k or other investments. It’s a social program we all pay in to as a society to ensure as we all age there are resources available for everyone to at least survive with the minimum and have a decent quality of life. Why are people so concerned with someone else not making as much or contributing as much having something to fallback on to survive?? Do you want people starving to death, living on the streets because that’s what would happen if we do not pay in to a social safety net. Without it theres a massive divide of have and have nots and our society would not survive or be nearly as harmonious as it currently is.
What happened to people before SS?
it is not the dire situation you’re describing.
Life expectancy in 1935 was under 60 when SS was started.
What happened before was the average person would be dead before 65.
I have 3 neighbors within a half-dozen homes either way from here who are over 95
So…….?
what’s the point you’re trying to make? People live longer and that’s the reason for SS not having money?
Part of it.
No one ever expected little old ladies to live this long.
especially with their budgeters pushing up daisies
Your question: What happened to people before SS?
My answer: The majority would have been dead.
People are also working much longer, which means they’re paying into SS longer. LOL, I remember the election in 2000 with Al Gore saying he was gonna put SS in a “lock box”.
However, most of the old farts around never even put in a fraction of what they’ve gotten out, since wages were a bazillion times lower than they are now.
I was and still am a fan of Paul Ryan’s “Road map for America’s Future”
There’s a few things in there I don’t like, but in general its a good plan.
But I’m a big dumb lib so naturally I would like this.
Yeah, and also Paul Ryan is a big dumb lib too.
Yeah. I remember when he ran with that other big dumb lib Mitt for president.
Funny how those two would be called RHINOs now.
Weird. Almost likely something changed?
Harmonious?
Have you even noticed that this is currently happening on a wide scale under government control?
They get disability deposits into a bank or a reloaded debit card, of which a crapload of it goes to booze and drugs when no guardian has been legally assigned.
Anyone know why most of the homeless in Minneapolis are overweight?
Just an observation and I’m not making a joke here.
Don’t get me wrong, they are not healthy, but I swear most of them look overweight to me.
Lifer, Have you walked through the cities lately?
Many people THINK SS is supposed to take care of them in retirement, it is not. It is designed to take care of 40% of their needs.
My point is that I paid more into SS than I have contributed to my own savings, yet, I will get more out of my own savings than SS. Any government program is filled with waste. IF we cut out the waste, maybe not as many people will be needy? Imagine that, actually planning and taking care of yourself instead of relying on Uncle Joe to do it
It’s too late.
You can get a doc to sign off on nearly every disability you can invent, and that budget item is growing astronomically.
Then the gov’t hacks will merge it in with your SS fund and steal from it, with almost no SS funds to pay you.
It wasn’t that way 10 years ago, but now it’s rampant.
and they have eyes on RR retirement too
Truly an excellent point – well said
12.4+2.9=15.3%
half is 6.2+1.45=7.65%
7.65% of 50k is $3,825 or $7,650 between you and your employer.
mover 40 years startinf at 0 with a 5% return you should be at almost 1million dollars.
and that’s only 20-60
18-66 is 48 years where you’d be at
1.5m.
So at 66 you could have 1.5m on a 50k salary to live out another… oh… let’s say 15 years to 81…. You’d get a check for about $8,300/month.
Whats SS pay out now?
As a contractor type, I get to pay the 15%
@yay@
Yup, nothing worse than making a few bucks and having to throw a bazillion percent to an insolvent fund.
The max, no matter how much you contributed, is 3345 at “normal” retirement age…unless you work to 70, which is 4194
So you lose half.
thanks gubmint
Shhhhhhhh, don’t tell the minions.
You’ll ruin their fantasy world where everything the government does is good.
401k in 22 went to 22,500
IRA is 7,500
30k/year…
5% anuual compound… 20 years… cool 780k
Add in the 7500 IRA same numbers and it’s another 260k.
” I rely on SS”
Eventually they’ll do like 27 countries in the world have already done… confiscate your retirement account if they have a general government shortfall.
and people say that tithing 10% to your church is insane
It’s a societal program to make society better not a personal investment plan where you’re guaranteed to get all your money back or make money. This is part of a societal contract to help each other and build a functioning society. If you have a problem with that then I question people calling themselves good members of society or even worse good christians.
A mismanaged program used to enrich a select few on the backs of others.
it’s been perverted and misused for decades and is far from its original intent.
Lol…market based plan AKA care left to companies to decide how much you should have to live on which we know is way less. I do not support that.
Agree the government has been its own worse enemy taking from social security over the years but there’s plenty of money, cut defense spending and corp subsidies and tax these rich billionaires and corporations not paying any taxes by exploitation of tax loop holes. Fuckers like Mike Lee want their cake and eat it too and kick our elderly to the curb. Fuck him.
But somehow it is perfectly fine to allow the government to determine how much you should get?
There are standards that have been in place for generations if you think for a second a corporation would provide more you’re kidding yourself.
I wouldn’t allow a corporation to hold it.
It would be in a personal account.
If you trust the government to take care of you, you are a fool. Look around. The government created the current mess.
You cant trust the government or a corporation to make the right decision for you. I hate to break the news to people, but they do not care. They are good at PRETENDING to care however.
Exactly.
Exactly!
Exactly!
Lol, defense is down to 15% of the budget, and two things that never used to be an issue, interest and medicaid (medical payments to people because they don’t work, sometimes kids), are going through the roof, at 8% and 9% respectively.
Interest alone will take up probably half the budget within 5 years.
Imagine if the 15.2% required by law for EVERY working person went into a personal account, rather than being sent to the Social Security pyramid scheme.
Of course, that will be viewed as evil by the left.
Especially by those who don’t work and want to collect.
Someone with a disability may not be able to earn enough. What happens to them?
Would have to supplement their retirement contributions or something like that. We have to take care of those who legitimately can’t take care of their selves
Good point.
I would assume there is plenty of money in the budget to help out that small percentage of population. But I still don’t trust the government to do it. Family should have a large part of that IMO.
The problem is that disability and medicaid for them is no longer small.
There is a whole industry centered around getting whiners, Karens, medicated suburban housewives with psych problems, former drug addicts with half a brain who did it to themselves, etc. into the system.
Those are the ones who weren’t born with disabilities and are chewing through our money over the last dozen years or so.
Exactly.
Disability is now defined as being offended by words.
So when I say some amount for the disabled, it is for someone who is truly physically disabled.
I expect that half of the transgenders and lgbtqweirdos will be on disability before the next 10 years expires. Uff duh.
I’d say sooner. Biden has 2 years to ram through orders as a dictator.
DE – that was my point exactly. If I were to have invested that 15% into my own plans, I would be significantly better off. In fact, that 15% alone would have given me more money now than my 401K contributions plus my SS. So we could save money and be better off.
The big problem is: The government has to fix it. When is the last time they did anything right?
Yep.
If you run the math on 15% of your average lifetime earnings of $35,000 a year at 5%, it equates to about $600,000 over 40 years. Not including what you are already doing.
Here is another way to look at it. My SS contributions account for 60% of my retirement money being socked away somewhere.
But they will only account for 40% of my return once I retire.
yep. The money is stolen from you, and handed out in a great ponzi scheme.
Biggest ponzi scheme the world has ever seen.
The crooks in our government should all be Madoff’d.
What makes it even worse, is the ponzi scheme worked because you had few people collecting and many people paying.
Now, the people who want to keep SS, undermine the very system they want by paying people not to work, abortions and encouraging low population growth. All the things required to keep it solvent are now actively being destroyed. And people support this nonsense.
(Not you…..)
That was what Paul Ryan was trying to do. Shift a portion into the stock market, with a few safe guards on it.
I was a big fan of this in 2008.
I also liked his plan for Medicare, but now its looking like the private health insurance market is a mess. So I’m not sure if that would have worked the way I thought it would have.
Anyways, he at least had some plans.
These days most politicians won’t put out a plan ahead of time since it gives the opp. a chance to beat it into the ground.
Its sad really.
I’d prefer a 401k-type plan, personally. Get the guv mostly out of it so that they can’t continue spending the money that’s supposed to be earmarked for our retirements. I honestly expect to see very little, if any, social security money in my retirement.
Here are my major issues with social security. First off, I am 59 and the money would be nice when I retire around 70.
There are a ton of things this government does that it specifically should not. However, once they entered the con game, may as well keep it up.
In other words, all you fucking millenials and Gen z , x, y and whatever… get to work.
I’ve heard some more libertarian folks among conservatives propose ideas like this – reducing or reworking or eliminating entitlement benefits. I think Americans benefit from a certain amount of a social safety net, but it’s been poorly managed and gotten out of hand.
I don’t like the idea of having paid into it for the past 25 years and not getting anything out when I hit retirement age, but I also didn’t like paying my mortgage when I was way upside down after the housing market collapse, and I did anyway. I also don’t like paying my student loans while others take the handout, but I did anyway.
If bearing this burden helps the future of the country I love which has given me so much opportunity and freedom, so be it. I could consider my payments as a tax for the benefit of being raised by my parents (and them being raised by theirs), which is some pretty impressive justification and rationalization on my part, but if I can’t change it I’d rather move on then spend the rest of my life angry about it. I’ll save my anger for Gregg Williams.
Yes
Yeah I hope they don’t flex to Sunday night with us being on a short week prepping for New England on Thanksgiving night.
What they said in the reply’s is true.
theyd flex that divisional game if anything.
Better not, that would suck.
They need to play as many noon games as possible.
By asking, this commenter is assuming Chris knows and understands things in the first place, which is a stretch.
Not bad….we’ll miss Tomlinson but I want to see Tonga (338 lbs👀) get more playing time he had some good reps last week.
I thought Young was coming back?
they said he looked “spry” in workouts on the field and is close but they’re not going to rush it so not sure if that means he suits up or not.

Also, Monty Python auto rec
And Faulty Towers autorec.
That’s from a Monty Python skit. Basil Faulty was a hotel manager/owner.
My bad. It really looks like Faulty Towers. Basil was always denigrating his guests.
And Manuel was his faithful employee.
But Lifer´s gif is Monty Python, very true.
Manuel was funny. It probably wouldn’t be allowed on today’s tv.
Yup, the woke mob would surely find an -ism to cancel it.
