Not a ton of news out there these days. Even though the season hasn’t officially ended, the news cycle has certainly slowed. We’ll get the occasional coaching hire, or one of the top 3 QBs of all time might retire, as happened yesterday, but other than that, it’s going to be fairly dull from now until the draft. I suppose we could start doing mock drafts.

Logically, what you say makes sense, but can you point to an instance where this has happened? Where a player just agrees to take much less than he’s owed? Keep in mind, the dead money has already been paid, so that’s your baseline. How little would he play for? If this has happened in the past, how much less do players agree to take? I just don’t see it happening very often, if ever.
I agree, I just think our back end is still better with him there. He is one of those guys who has seemed to make up for what he’s lost in speed by being in the right place at the right time… though can still be a liability… so is a young player.

What did they change?
The Biden Admin instuted a rule change for 401k and financial managers that they may now consider ESG themes like “green energy” when constructing their portfolios for their clients. Previously, managers had to try to maximize return on investment for their clients, that is no longer the case…they can now consider things like climate change over return on investment. All analysis indicate this will result in a decrease ROI for clients….but hey they are saving the world I guess.

Yes pretty much…I am not against ESG investing if it is clearly labeled as such, I am concerned that they will change my Mid-CAp investments to align with ESG goals without telling their clients.

That reminds me – the gal I caught mono from soon after moving to GDV, her sister was married to one of the docs. He actually still works here, he was old when I saw him 32 years ago. Anyhow, I was getting beat up on call and having to work the next day the fatigue/mono was killing me. My GF suggested I see him and get a note excusing me from call for a while. Was a classic encounter with him recounted by many others that have seen him over the years, he sat and listened to my complaints and then did a cursory exam and told me my spleen likely wouldn’t burst and sent me out the door. He may have actually booted me in the ass as I tried to protest. Two weeks later (the sisters talked) he approaches me in the hospital and offers to write a note excusing call but by that point I was on the uphill swing.

Speaking of juries, my sister got called (but not selected) for jury duty in Calgary. I was on both the county and federal list for a year in Billings but none of the cases ever made it to jury selection.
I wonder if (specifically the last part) this is how it works in the US?
Showed up, checked in by clerk of court, given a number corresponding to her order of check in. All the potential jurors called into the courtroom, they take roll call and issue bench warrant for the no shows, ask if anyone has extenuating circumstances/excuses, judge listens to them and tells most that that’s no excuse, say this is a rape case, the accused is blah and the plaintiff is bleh, the witnesses called will be eenie meanie and moe, do any of the jurors know these people? Then they just drew the numbers out of a can and said first 12 are jurors and next 3 alternates, the rest of you can leave.
There’s that one show Bull, they make it seem much more of a process with excluding jurors.
May vary by state, but the process of attorneys striking jurors happens after the step you described above. This is more likely in high profile or complicated cases. Some stuff juries have to do is minor. For example, when I became a guardian for my sister, a jury had to decide. It was a no brainer in her case, she had never been capable of doing any of the “rights” she would have been deprived of, such as voting, driving, or making any life decisions.
Not here in ND. Prosecutor and defense atty get a chance to interview the jurors, they get to “strike” a certain # of jurors, then the final jurors are chosen.
I was a juror for a federal trial that actually went to court. It was a cool process to sit through.

I struggle with the concept of a 60 year old man pulling 9+G’s and flying state of the art jet aircraft for the military, oh and he has nimble reflexes and outflies all the young pups.
Well he’s Maverick, so. Also, he’s in really good shape for 60 and is the best pilot ever. All those young pups just don’t know how to fly. You can’t beat the superior reflexes. The flight scenes are pretty cool though, especially at the end.
The difference between him and Kilmer in the movie was crazy to see. I realize Kilmer has health issues but Tom Cruise has either done a really good job taking care of himself or has an awesome plastic surgeon.

Although the complication rate is rare…it does happen..
I know 2 people who came out of it with complications…one has occasional dry eyes and she has to use eye drops a few times a day…the other one said its the worst thing he ever has done and has to put liquid in his eyes like every hour…severely impacting his quality of life.
My brother had it done and said its the best thing ever and I am nuts for not doing it. My brother-in-law is an Army Optometrist and says there is a reason the Army doesn’t recommend it…
In the end we all make our own risk assessments….just like the vaccine.

Certainly different risks based on eyes, but I think its just that some people look at a 1 in 150 complication rate and say yessir sign me up and others say thats too high when messing with my eyes.

It’s more risky for some than others, I believe. They told me the risks far outweighed any potential benefits for me, but I’m far sighted & there are some other things that make it less effective for me.

Yeah, I am finally getting to the point where cheaters are not enough. I do not blame the video games and job staring at a screen though. Been playing video games since 11, and I am now 59. Mom did not wear glasses until she was around my age. Going with genetics for me on this one.
I think computers affect people more because they’re so close. TVs tend to be further away (for most).

I think it depends. I can’t see two feet in front of me without contacts or glasses. Everything is a blur. I also don’t have a stigmatism in either eye yet. My brother and sister both have them in both. Want to get it done before/if it develops for me.
Being far sighted is odd. I can drive to work and not realize that I forgot to put my contacts in until I get to work. I can drive & walk around just fine, but if I try to read something close to me, like a computer or a book, I see a blur.
Complete opposite and I guess I am more common.
They say that far-sightedness is fairly uncommon.
My dad was far sighted. The rest of us in the family are nearsighted.

Did you check if you were a candidate for PRK surgery instead? My corneas were too thin for traditional lasik–but PRK is actually a safer and much better procedure. Had mine done in 2016 and see 20/15 in one eye and 20/20 in the other. Paid for it with pre-tax $ as well.

PRK is:
-safer than traditional lasik because no lense is put in.
-better than lasik because it can be performed more than once
-allows for trauma to the eye afterwards, so boxers and MMA fighters opt for it vs lasik

I just had cataract surgery. Overall, well worth it.
Small side effect is bright lights seem to cause a shutter motion when moving the eye.
It’s supposed to go away after a couple of months.

They gave me glasses in 4th grade. I never wore them. When I went in the Army, I had perfect vision, and it stayed that way until I was 33.
I’m pretty sure my eye doc in 4th grade just needed cash, because I didn’t need glasses back then.
I’m glad I had mine done long ago. I do believe a lot of the success has to do with how rigorous you are in postop care. I avoided any close accommodation, dusty or smoky environments, bright sun, etc for a month afterwards. My sister was out partying the evening after she had it done. Guess who had complications?

It’s worth the watch for sure but not as good as the original, IMO. I saw it at the theater when it was released and then watched it on Prime last night (free if you’ve got it). There are more flying scenes with some incredible action, which is good. I just didn’t get into the storyline as much mostly because the “love interest” angle seemed forced and Jennifer Connelly looks like Pete Carroll.

First of all, I’ve been around here long enough to know she has her fans on this site, so I’m just having some fun. That said, personally, I don’t find her very attractive and there were several scenes in the movie where I thought, my opinion, she looked like a horse. So, as the movie progressed, I’m like, “she has a horse face” to “man, she has a horse face like Pete Carroll” to, ultimately, “sheesh…she kind of looks like Pete Carroll.”
But that may just be me. Watch the movie and you can decide for yourself (and BTW, I used to think she was pretty hot).

I think he had a much better season the problem with that statement is the bar was set VERY low. He still struggles big time with anchoring. I think he helps a TON in protection calls and such. I think they need to make a choice. Keep Turd means we need a QB who has pocket presence and more escape-ability. Keep Cousins then get rid of Turd and get someone with some damn anchor.
He wasn’t as improved as people say. Pretty good run blocker, abysmal in pass protection. Our interior was poor, and I wonder how much of that was Bradbury bringing down the level of play of the two beside him. They have to try to cover his fuck ups in addition to doing their job. I dunno, sure seems like he was the weakest link in pass pro.

Some. Fully guaranteed portions of the salary are also dead cap, I believe, and that can be transferred to the next team. That’s my understanding of it, correct me if I’m wrong, because that’s a distinct possibility.
Best I can tell there is $37 million or so in unaccounted for signing bonus. Then there is a 2023 option bonus of 58.3 million that must be exercised the first week of the league year (March 17). The options are confusing but I think if they trade him by March 17 they take a $37 mill hit this year. They could trade him by then and then the team getting him exercise the 58.3 mill bonus, thereby spreading that cap hit out through 2026. I don’t know. It doesn’t make any more sense the more I look at it. I agree with Cane though that the Packers will take close to a $40 mill hit minimum this year if they trade him. The annual numbers after that aren’t great for the team acquiring him (at least $58.3 in 2023 and $47 mill in 2024). He has said he would be willing to rework the contract, but that remains to be seen and the $37 mill in signing bonus already paid has to be accounted for against the cap.
The 2025 goes away upon retirement though, at least as far as cap implications.

I’m working harder now on my bookstore than I was at my old job, so there is that. However, I really prefer working at home versus going out in the cold weather.

It’s going good. I’m working on getting more volume so it will take a little while for that as I’m just a one man show. I’m enjoying myself, so that helps.
