After the excitement of yesterday afternoon and evening with the Flores hire, there isn’t a lot more news to share today. This is the way of the off-season, so we’d better get used to it. The next few weeks could bring some excitement if the Vikings decide to make personnel moves, and they most likely will decide to make personnel moves, especially on defense. I’ll be surprised if the Vikings don’t decide to move on from several defensive veterans once Flores has time to evaluate the roster and make some decisions.

Over at NFL.com, the Raiders have granted Derek Carr permission to speak with the Saints, and Jim Irsay says the Colts will decide on their new head coach in the coming days.
We discussed this later yesterday afternoon, but it’s worth repeating. Chong Aaron Rodgers is going to go on a four-day “darkness retreat” to help him decide whether to retire from the NFL. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Jefferson is probably the best wide receiver in the NFL. His goal entering 2022 was to prove this, and he was successful in doing so. The former LSU star is the only non-quarterback who was named a finalist for MVP. While he’s a long shot to win that award, he may secure Offensive Player of the Year.
This season, Jefferson led the NFL in catches (128), receiving yards (1,809) and was tied for 11th in receiving touchdowns (8). Those yards are the sixth-most recorded by a receiver in a single season. Jefferson set franchise records in receptions and receiving yards, and was named to his third straight Pro Bowl in addition to an All-Pro selection. The 4,825 receiving yards Jefferson has recorded in his career are the most receiving yards recorded in a player’s first three seasons in NFL history. Not only that, but he has the most receiving yards since entering the NFL in 2020!

I went out two weeks ago on a Sat morn, too damn cold about 35 when we started got up to 47 so not terrible but not ideal. Starting to warm up now in to the mid 50’s and 60’s so golfing weather is right around the corner. I have a simulator at the balloon factory I hit balls all day so I’m always swinging a club.
“Responsible for” is a very big statement to make and very condescending towards JJ.
I wouldn’t say it’s very condescending to JJ. Just highlights that he’s lucky to have one of the most accurate passers in the league (which is remarkable behind our line) throwing the ball to him. Think of Josh Allen’s first year. He missed wide open receivers by ten yards at times with no pressure. He improved a lot from there of course, but having a veteran QB who stands in there and takes a beating to get the ball to him is a blessing.
Yeah, playing behind a shit line for years. How he takes hits and get backs on his feet is admirable. He takes to much blame, IMO. I don’t like qb contracts in general. You can go down the line though on contracts that suck with the Purple. KC will get most of the heat tho. Cap was a good thing to keep teams competitive. Now its more internal. JJ dominates again next year and wants 35 mil? So you pay 2 players a combined 80 mil? Math is just bad.

That’s a serious crapshoot with QB’s, probably a 15% or less success rate unless you’re picking top 5 and even then it’s less than 40%. You miss like we did with Ponder and it sets your franchise back 5 yrs probably more.
I like the have an established qb like Cousins and keep picking day 2 or 3 qb’s and maybe find a Russell Wilson or just decent starter like Brad Johnson but you can hit on a good one it has happened.

Well let’s see… on that drive they called a screen play to Cook and he was tackled for a four yard loss. On second and 14 they called a quick out to the TE who was tackled for a 2 yard gain… on 3rd and 12 they were looking for JJ on a deep crosser but he was covered and Cousins was almost sacked trying to dump the ball off to Cook (incomplete). Yes that was not a good series. The Giants defense kicked the shit out of us. Same as the last series where Cousins was pressured on every play.

I see an occasional suggestion that you have to suck before you can get good enough to win the Owl. For each superbowl winner since 2000, I looked at the average number of wins 1 year, 3 years, and 5 years prior to there Super Bowl victory.
1 year prior, 3 years, 5 years
Record 10.5 10.0 8.0
So, 5 years out from winning the superbowl, teams were basically average.
I did take out New England to see how that would affect things…it did drop the 5 years out average down to 7.0 games.
I guess I don’t see a lot of evidence that you have to suck to win a superbowl…looks like you can stay average to above overage and get there…

I’ve done it at large companies during bad economies and also as a small business owner to help save jobs and also put my company/team in the best position to succeed until the economy/situation rebounds, and I’ve never made nearly as much as Kirk does.
I can safely say that if I had Kirk’s talent and had pocketed over $200MM during my career, I’d be much more motivated by my legacy as a leader/team player than I would my next dollar. I’d rather be remembered for doing everything I could to win a championship than go down as one of the most expensive losers in league history, regardless as to whether that perception is fair or not.
I wouldn’t play for free…but I’d be good with a range of 10-12% of the salary cap. That said, I’d only do it with some assurance from the team as to how the dollars left on the table will be prioritized (e.g. get an IOL, DE and a top-tier press-man CB).

Daniel Jones is somewhere around 20th best QB, he won more playoff games last year than Kirk and has as many playoff win in his career as Kirk does in his despite all the bulk stats Kirk amasses and the fact Kirk’s been in the league like 7 years longer. Ceiling for Kirk is missing the playoffs way more often than not and when he has a first round beatdown is most likely the result. If that’s what you’re looking for good for you.

Rodgers (would hate for obvious reasons but he’s been do the dance), Jones, Pickett. These are in no particular order. So thats 13 current QBs id rather have for one or multiple of the above reasons. Now we can get into upcoming rookies if you want.
Also, this list is dependent on the fact that you accept the Vikings have no shot at being legit contenders in the 2023 and possible 2024 seasons, which I believe they dont. I understand your view of that list changes if you think they are. These are QBs that can either elevate your team if you dont have the best roster, or can help you build into a good roster while giving you the same ability to “competitively rebuild”. I think he’s basically saying cut me or pay me what my contract is, that’s just opinion though. He has to know he isn’t getting the rest of the money on his contract and would get nowhere near that in FA.
Yeah, so let’s say he and his agent think he’d get $5 mill in FA. If the Vikings offer him $6 mill is that a pay cut? It’s lower than the $10 mill he is scheduled to make but if everybody agrees that $10 mill is never going to happen then maybe he doesn’t see that as a pay cut, especially with another year or two and some signing bonus. Historically speaking players would rather take less in FA than a paycut, or at least it ends up that way. IDK what will happen with Cook but on this team with the offense the way it is, it really doesn’t make sense to invest any significant cap space in RB.

I love Dalvin, but business is business. If he wants to remain in purple, he’ll have to do something to help them lessen his cap hit. You just can’t pay a running back that much money right now unless you focus the offense around him, and Dalvin ain’t that type of back, he’ll get injured.
I have been ready to see Dalvin go for a looooong time. I like the guy, but paying big money for a running back is madness. I literally have a serviceable running back in the bottom drawer of my desk that I forgot about that will play for minimum wage.

I don’t know Mick….I hope so but this class is deep I think Flores has to look at a couple of these upcoming rookies and draft a couple that can man cover which his scheme requires. Pat P does not have that skill any longer on a consistent basis he is relegated to a zone scheme so maybe he’s out or plays some free safety which I would like. Donatell’s scheme was non aggressive, sit back and keep everything in front of you. Flores is aggressive apply pressure and your corners better hold up in single coverage. From what I saw no way we go in to this season with the same group. They’ll either give up to many plays or get hurt. I think we go after a couple skilled cover guys in the draft in the first two days and Flores will believe he can work with what we have up front.
All 3 of those guys…. From the digging I’ve been doing were touted for their “Man” cover skilzzzzzz.

I don’t care about their size, Booth looked like he sucks before he got injured, Dantzler is still sucks about half the time, and Evans is another concussion or 2 from potentially having his career end. Add in that PP sucks in man coverage and is very unlikely back due to this, corner is once again a major concern. Why is this? They haven’t drafted a well above average corner since Xavier Rhodes, which was damn near 10 years ago. Going through the list since Rhodes…

11 CBs selected since Rhodes and not a single pro bowl caliber player, which is pretty unimpressive considering damn near anyone decent makes the pro bowl and the Vikings have invested quite a few picks at the position including several in the early rounds. That is why the secondary sucks.

He’s more effective in off coverage underneath than tight man. He needs to play more football, but his ball-hawking instincts, burst to close and toughness in run support will be very appealing for zone teams looking for an upgrade at cornerback.
