Man, I despise the fact that we’re discussing the off-season already. I’m still disgusted with the Vikings’ defensive “performance” on Sunday, and the fact that the Vikings are out of the playoffs just doesn’t sit well with me. That being said, that’s reality right now, so the best thing to do is look at the off-season and how the front office is going to go about making the Vikings a better team in 2023. That’s how I cope, I look for solutions.
In order to keep the discussion going on some of our favorite subjects, we began a “Where Do We Go From Here?” series for each roster spot or coaching position where a change is imminent. We looked at the Vikings’ potential options with Ed Donatell and the Vikings defense.
We also explored where the Vikings may go with Kirk Cousins.
Adam Thielen’s wife hinted at the inevitable via Instagram after Sunday’s loss, from Yahoo Sports. It’ll be a bummer to watch some of our long-time favorites depart, but this off-season will likely bring many more departures like this. All the best to Thielen and his family in their future endeavors. I have a deep respect for how hard he worked to get to where he is on the field, but more so for all that he does off the field. Great people that the world needs more of.

Cousins has proven himself over and over in his career. Think KOC got to witness just how good his QB is up close and personal this year. Wonder how many times when watching him from the sidelines or on film he said “yeah, I couldn’t make that throw”.

Kirks still young enough to get a big deal again.
there are a lot of different ways to go but Kirk was by far one of the few bright spots of the team.
I think they’ll continue with their competitive rebuild for another couple years until they assemble a decent team, and then go all out. That D will take a couple years to make significant progress.

But, yes, those 3 will be a fixture on offense for a few years to continue to build around. Need to either resign Mattison, or draft a good RB soon.
Load up on defense? With what cap space or draft capital? The defense is old and trash. Window to what, the same shitshow we all just saw against the NYG? So dumb, Vikings have been “all in” The last three years and have zero playoff wins to show for it.

He said this year would have been his Dad’s last chance to experience a Vikings playoff run. He was understandably very emotional about it and was venting quite a bit. Some folks took issue with the venting. I and some others were trying to acknowledge what he was going through and offer some support.
It has been quite the day here I see. Five back in his dementia cycle being nice after being karenfingers. He really needs to get back on his hormonal replacement meds.

Got a gym membership again, haven’t gone to the gym since I worked at the Y over a decade ago. Have a gym at home, but this’ll be good for kiddo and I to get up there & do some stuff. Plus, they have a pool & indoor track, so we’ll get lots of use out of it. Need to get back into yoga, my flexibility is shit.
Now maybe I should sell my home gym & have more room in the garage.
I hated going to the gym, especially when they made me wear a mask and I was like screw you people I quit.

I’m not so sure… they kept a lot of the same verbiage but the scheme did change. Also the OC change is always going to be a challenge. They come in with their own views and also a rookie OC makes a lot of mistakes when comes to play calling.

Kirk was hit 125 times through week 14 which was the highest rate ever in the NFL since they started recording that statistic. Historically bad protection. The OL sucked. They didn’t improve.

I usually have two sets of car tracks packed down snow from my wife and I all winter but the rest I can keep pavement bare.
I swear I’d check out one of those radiant overlays you can put on your driveway and then they seal over it. Runs on low electric output and that MF’er will stay clean all winter long.

KAM nad KOC are both pretty deliberate types, my guess is they evaluate the D, Ed, personnel, then evaluate who they could get right now. I think he gets shitcanned.

Defense was definitely the major issue this year, gonna take some drastic measures to fix it.
I know the defense has been garbage for 3 years, but they should have been able to at least show SOME improvement this year. Instead, I think it got worse.
I was hoping for improvement, but the change in scheme had me worried. Square peg in a round hole as it were. Will the scheme work better next year? Maybe. I actually have the same question for the offense. I was not impressed with what KOC brought in at all this year. Will HE improve next year? Maybe.
Root cause besides poor fit with the players?
Ed liked to play really soft zones. Huge cushions. By design on 3rd and 4 he would have guys playing off the line 8 yards.
He did get better with it after KOC talked with him about tightening up the coverage, but his go-to plays are soft zones and hope the other team screws up.
The middle of the field has been open since the Eagles game. By Scheme.

Very early in the year (might have been in preseason) Harrison Phillips stated in an interview they were playing a “bend don’t break” defense. My immediate reaction to that was “OH NO NOT AGAIN!!!”

For the record, I have never seen Cousins choke in a big moment… usually it’s his O-line that does that.
I’d cut Kendricks to save the 9.5 million, and then you do not have to restructure O’Neill, but this is really good.
I thought it was a level headed take to pay JJ and get 27 mil in cap space.
Only spots I disagreed was Kendricks (don’t think he’s a fit in a 3-4 no matter the cost) and AT is still making to much. I really like KJ with WR2 snaps and Nailor has potential.

I think the 49ers are playing better than any team in the league right now but I do believe Purdy is due for a “welcome to the NFL” moment. That said, SF’s defense is playing fast and furious, so they may be able to overcome it.

Ben brought up Will Levis being the QB for the Vikings to draft. They will need to get up into the 5-6 range with it because of the Raiders, Falcons, and Panthers.
What would it take? This years and next years 1st. And probably a 2 from next year as well. IF its a team like the Seahawks at 5, a case could be made that Danielle Hunter gets thrown in as well to sweeten the pot.
It is possible to move up and go get a guy, and it won’t sink the franchise forever either. Look at the eagles and what they gave up for Wentz…and now they’re right back in the thick of it a couple years later.

The bears sent #20 and a fifth in last years draft plus 2023 1st and 4th for #11 to draft fields last year.
For the Vikings to get #6 or so they’ll obviously have to send #23 and next years first plus a little more than the 3rd KC sent. Most likely 2 #1s and a 3rd and 4th or something like that.
