NFL Weekend Results
Well, the divisional round is over, and the conference championship matchups are set. In the AFC, the Chiefs defeated the Jaguars on Saturday, then the Bengals defeated the Bills (and the refs) yesterday, so it’ll be the Chiefs against the Bengals. In the NFC, the Eagles 38-7’d the Giants, then the 49ers took care of the Cowboys last night, as Dak threw two passes to the wrong team, and both defenses played a hell of a game. In the end, the 9ers defense did more, and Purdy screwed up less than Dak, and the San Francisco 49ers are in the NFC Championship again. All links/updates courtesy of NFL.com.
It’s a little different watching a game when you don’t really care about the outcome. I wanted Philly to lose, but I knew with 100% certainty that they wouldn’t so I just watched that game and shook my head at how the Vikings defense could allow that horrendous offense to march up and down the field against them.
Bills-Window Closing?
The Bills really missed their opportunity yesterday. They had a home playoff game and some friendly refs, but they were unable to do much. Yes, there’s next year, but how will they look next year? Allen’s cap hit explodes to over $40 million next year, so they’re no longer going to have the luxury of having an elite QB on a cheap rookie deal. It seems they missed a bit of a window.

but he was pretty bummed with schultze and he had dropped an easy first down earlier in the game and i was like huh IRV SMITH

Some are of that opinion, but Kirk is much better IMHO.
Stats are almost exactly the same between the two, however Dak has won way more games, likely due to having a better supporting cast. Their cap hits have been much different as well and Dallas has drafted much better lately than the Vikings.
Dak has taken up very little cap space, so they’ve been able to build a better team around him, IMO. We’ll see that begin to unravel next year.

Well, I think that some feel his rate is above market value. In 2022, he was the 2nd-highest paid QB. He’s not the 2nd best QB in football, IMO. In 2023, he’s slated to be the 4th-highest paid QB. I don’t feel that he’s the 4th best QB, either.
I think that’s where the disconnect is between the more reasonable folks on that side of the aisle.
I don’t think it’s fair to lump those reasonable folks (and I include myself in that group) with the group who just mindlessly yells “KIRK SUCKS, BLAH BLAH BLAH”. I don’t agree with those guys, either.

Are any of you versed in compensatory picks? I’m trying to put a story together, and it’s driving me batty. Any help would be appreciated. I have all the data compiled, just need a summary. Trying to project how many draft picks we may receive. Looking like two 6ths or maybe a 5th.
Nobody is versed in it. It is intentionally vague and not understandable so they can give whoever they want the picks they want.
Done a shitload of research on this, it’s a PITA. Was gonna post it Saturday or yesterday, but can’t figure out the formula. Pricks should at least tell you the formula they use.

So I mentioned last week my wife had her six week post op visit last Monday, and I would share an anecdote. It is really about joining the “forced celibacy” club when your wife has a baby, etc…which I hadn’t experienced personally.
Framing the visit – the gyn/onc is a young lady, very pleasant, comes from central NDer, etc…my wife is perched on the exam table, having just completed the pelvic exam. Dr. leaning on desk to my right, looking directly at my wife. I’m sitting on a chair. A resident is standing next to me on my left.
Dr. is addressing my wife, “things look great, you’re healing wonderful. Now we do recommend a full three months of pelvic rest”. At this point I was like darn, ANOTHER six weeks – plus there wasn’t a lot of joy in Mudville before surgery with invasive cancer on the menu. Well that sucks. Just to spell it out, “We find that there is a risk of the vaginal cuff tearing after robotics if we only do six weeks of pelvic rest, which would require repair and resetting the clock. So nothing in your vagina for a full three months.” At this point, I couldn’t see from my vantage point, but she was rolling her eyes in my direction. “Absolutely nothing…in the vagina…for six more weeks.” Turns slightly and looks at me, my wife was laughing hard and I couldn’t help but grin, why are you all looking at me?
Was a good lighthearted moment after the somber leadup to the surgery.
Three months is the longest dry spell I’ve had since college.

Hunter is probably worth a 2 and mid round, maybe 4 or 5. Lance is worth at best maybe a 3rd. He sucks, is coming off season ended injury that required 2 surgeries to his ankle, and seems to be not so smart. He does still have potential though so someone would take him. I wouldn’t be against him sitting a season and then completing with another early drafted QB after Kirk fucks off after 2023.
Ben, I bet San Fran gets at least 2nd rounder or equivalent for Lance….I could be wrong, I often am.

You might be right, I forgot that the last young QB drafted in the top ten that sucked something awful their first season playing still fetched a 2nd round pick.
Trey Lance scouting report:
POSITIVES
— Good height and weight at the QB position. Has a thick build that will only get stronger as he gets older.
— Mechanically very sound already, despite the small amount of games played. Polished and consistent with his footwork while both under center and in the shotgun.
— Played in an offense that featured a wide variety of passing concepts and handled them well at a young age. Required to make progressions on dropbacks and also asked to throw on the move and was able to shine in both.
— Very good pocket movement and does a good job of consistently keeping his eyes downfield. Scrambles only out of necessity and shows toughness in the pocket. Willing to stand in to deliver throws with pressure bearing down.
— Good athlete who can handle all QB run concepts. Can make defenses pay in man coverage or when bringing pressure by tucking and running. Also a good thrower of the ball on the move, able to make things happen out of structure.
— Good eyes pre- and post-snap. Shows an advanced understanding of the game already, with a work ethic to add to it. Consistently understands coverages quickly and does not panic.
— Has very good arm strength at all three levels. Can hit field outs on time and on line. Has the ability to consistently uncork accurate deep throws that can punish a defense throughout a game.
NEGATIVES
— Has a tight, consistent release but has a longer over-the-top delivery.
— Scheme was varied but very QB-friendly.
— Can sometimes be robotic with his footwork that will cause him to be a tad late on throws. Has the arm strength to overcome it most of the time, but it can get him in trouble on more vertical throws.
— Accuracy can become randomly sporadic. Can overstride when feeling late and tries to “aim” his throws in. Some of this was also because of situations he had to throw in (i.e. 3rd-and-long situations).
— Just hasn’t played a lot of football and played on a dominant team at the FCS level.
I think they are done though…UND going to beat them this year.

Our young guys in recent years have been less than stellar. We haven’t hit on a superstar draft pick on defense in a long time. Who is the last superstar we’ve drafted on defense? Hunter? That’s a long drought.

Too many misses in the draft resulted in the Vikes making a bunch of FA moves, which drains cap space quickly and locks you into future cap hell most of the time. A GM must do well in the draft to succeed, unless you’re Bilicheat with Brady.
What I mean by that is that Bilicheat didn’t really have to hit in the draft when he had Brady because they got vets to play there for cheap so they could get a ring.

Looking at this and previous years play offs, all the teams in it have QBs that can be mobile if they need to and great pocket mobility and mental toughness. Vikings defense is really passive. There is no player on the D that any OCs fear. Earlier in the season they were getting some turnovers, but those dried up once teams realized they can just throw 8-10 yard routes over the middle with no defender w/in 5 yards. They need young talent and a different DC, half way to that but we’ll see about the talent part as KAMs offseason plan unfolds.
