Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts

Wow, Friday is here already, a Divisional round NFL weekend just around the corner. I have a feeling that there could be a couple of blowouts this weekend, but I could be wrong, I don’t think the NFL allows those to happen anymore.

Vikings and NFL News

Yahoo Sports isn’t very impressed with Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s most recent draft, and they wonder whether he’s on the hot seat.

Aaron Jones Sr. was announced as a finalist for the NFL Salute to Service Award, per Vikings.com.

Vikings.com moves on to the running back position in their 2025 Vikings position recap.

Sports Illustrated suggests a possible replacement for T.J. Hockenson in the 2026 draft, should Hock become a cap casualty. Also, Adam Thielen announced his retirement from the NFL. All the best to Adam and his family as they move on to their next chapter, Thielen is one of the good guys.

CBS Sports looks at the big questions facing the NFL playoff teams who are left standing.

Sam Darnold popped up on the injury report with an oblique injury, per CBS Sports. Darnold told reporters that he’ll be playing.

Cousins is very adroit conversing about football. He is comfortable in front of a camera, and provides his views fluidly. Easy to follow, easy to understand, and not a lot of the same old “canned” commentary you hear from other “on air talent”. He has a sense of humor too, which is genuine and natural. Should add a little something to the broadcast.

Niece and Nephew flew in last night. We fetched them, got them settled then talked/joked/told stories and such until 3am. I am the only one currently up in the house.

I expect at least the Nephew up soon. Then we will got to Lowes to pick up a small shed that I was notified yesterday was ‘ready for pickup’ despite the fact that when I ordered it they stated it would be ready Jan 26th.

By the time we get back The Teacher will be finished making her breakfast/brunch creation that involves croissants, blueberries and some creamy mixture.

The game today between the Broncos and the Bills will be interesting. Josh Allen has been in the league for 8 years now, and played in 124 regular season games, and 14 playoff games. He is mature, and his team is mature. Bo Nix is in his second year, with 34 regular season games under his belt, and of course that one playoff game last year against the Bills where they lost 31-7.

While teams win or lose games, it will still be interesting to watch and see if Nix is better this year vs the Bills than last year. Likewise, it will be interesting to see if Allen can beat the Denver defense again.

I agree. I am actually looking forward to all 4 games this weekend.
And while I hate to admit that you are correct about teams winning games, I still feel that the better QB usually wins during the playoffs.

Usually.

For that reason, I pick the Bills today. While Bo Nix is decent, and improving, and Denver has the better overall team, I think Josh Allen will finally get it done for buffalo to lose another heartbreaking Super Bowl.

They are the AFC Vikings, after all.

I am also picking SF over Seattle. Even if Darnold is healthy, I expect him to get sacked 4-5 times and turn the ball over. Seattle is for sure the more complete team, with a crazy good defense and great run game. Still, turnovers and shit QB play derails anyone.

Certainly good QB play is generally needed to help win games, but C.J. Stroud made some terrible plays last week, and the Texans still beat the Steelers. I agree with you though, that Allen is probably going to be the difference in this game. Nix is playing at an average level at this point in his career; he’s pretty good, but still a work in progress. Allen is whatever he will be at this point, and that is currently better than Nix IMO. I give the edge to the Bills because of Allen’s experience.

Regarding the Niners vs the Seahawks, I’m astounded the Niners are still in the mix this year. They are playing 3rd stringers across the board now with an IR list that is longer than the Nile. I think the Seahawks beat them today because honestly, the Niners are out of players.

I went to use the public bathroom down the hall from my office, and the door was locked. I didn’t even know you could lock the door. At first I thought, why would someone lock the door to a public restroom…then I thought, why would I want to know what is going on in there…99% chance it is unpleasant (in a hospital you start thinking of things like an ostomy bag leak, etc).

Interesting comments from Howie Roseman…

— Eagles have had 15 picks in Days 1-2 of draft since 2021
— They’ve hit on 14 long-term starters

Comparing that to the Vikings…

— Vikings have also had 15 picks in Days 1-2 of draft since ‘21
— They’ve hit on ~4 long-term starters

I consider it a huge victory if I can get a horse to let me lift their front leg to let me inspect their hoof (that’s kind of a team building exercise that some equine therapy places use). You have to gain their trust and put yourself in a zen place or they say GTFO.

Reminds me, Bubba and I walked in the pleasant breeze today (sustained 40 mph winds with significant gusts, ambient temp 22 degrees). When we got home, he started doing his raped ape impression zooming around the shop with his back end trying to get ahead of his front end. He came at me like a missile, tried to jump in my arms (80 pound sack of wriggling potatoes) but the slick epoxy floor caused him to do a somewhat graceful back somersault and slide upside down between my legs. Stupid dog, that’s how they blow a CCL, but I still laughed once I knew he was okay.

They are already lamenting the low temps as we will have highs it the 40s and lows in the 20s. They are coming from SoCal with the highs in the 70-80 range.

I expect we will be inside Playing Card/Board Games most of the weekend. We are thinking of taking them to Cracker Barrel one night and Boise Fry on the other. Boise Fry is a uniquely Idaho place that focuses on local potatoes for the French Fry options. Looking forward to trying it out.

Per Copilot

Status of the Files

Partial Release: The DOJ and House Oversight Committee have made public a significant number of documents, photos, and other materials in a new, centralized online library. These materials include flight logs, contact books, emails, and investigative reports.

Ongoing Review: The DOJ has stated that over two million additional documents potentially related to the case are still in various phases of review and redaction.

Missed Deadline: The release process has faced bipartisan criticism for failing to meet the deadline set by the “Epstein Files Transparency Act,” a law passed in November 2025. The DOJ cited the immense volume of material and the need to protect victim identities as reasons for the delay.

Content: The released files have so far contained few major new revelations, though they do include numerous mentions and photos of high-profile figures, such as former Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, as well as celebrities like Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger. Neither Clinton nor Trump has been accused of any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein’s crimes.

Disasterous for the Falcons. Heck, Kirk got $100m for mainly holding a clipboard and giving advice. I would take that gig

I love to roast Kirk, but I think he would make a really fun neighbor and be a good sport about it. I would even mow his lawn for him if he was away for the weekend, but maybe I would leave a quarter of the lawn incomplete just for fun.

“Hahaha!” Kirk would say. “Let’s have a root beer!”
