We survived! We endured another off-season work week, now on to the weekend. I’m planning to go check out the lake ice to see if it’s safe for ice fishing again. We had a fairly long stretch of warm weather last month that made the lakes inaccessible, but the arctic air has returned over the past few days, so there’s a slight chance that a guy can get back out there.

Here’s an interesting piece from Yahoo Sports, I wasn’t aware of this until now. After going through rehab following his rookie season, Kevin O’Connell and his family allowed Manziel to stay with them while he tried putting his life back together. Pretty cool stuff. Even though it didn’t lead to a life turnaround and storybook ending for Johnny Football, at least KOC tried.
The Raiders have hired Rick Dennison to be their next offensive line coach, per the Raiders team site.
An exerpt from the story:
Dennison served as offensive line coach/run game coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings from 2019-20 and as senior offensive advisor in 2021. In 2019, the Vikings offensive line allowed the fifth fewest sacks in the NFL (28) and blocked for a rushing attack that gained 2,133 yards (6th in NFL).

In the last 46 years, the USA hockey team, in order to win gold, had to defeat two teams. One of them came from a massive, frozen country that was deeply oppressive, communist, and anti-American. The other time we beat the Soviet Union.

Just loved it when I did that and then the street crew came along and threw a mass of snow at the end of the driveway.

I did 4 hours of shoveling. We got 12-14 inches of heavy snow. My neighbor and i did a big driveway of an older coue, then i helped him with his. My back is killing me
Just got back from weekend seeing my daughter in Palm Beach. Didn’t get close to Mar a Lago – just as well. Great weather and loots of fine places to eat at reasonable prices.
See we have few hockey experts here. Heard a story from a guy this weekend that I wonder about.
He was saying at the end of last year there was a Panther player who played through the Stanley Cup with a torn hamstring. broken rib, and a torn ligament from his hip, He played with all this, and after the season had to undergo three surgeries.
His point was – hockey players are tough as hell and play with rather severe injuries. And kind of implied football players aren’t near as tough.
I don’t know much about hockey, but if what he says is true that’s pretty damn impressive.
Hockey players are way tougher than football players. It’s not even close imo.
I don’t mean to come across as a know it all (but I will), but I don’t know why that would surprise you. For one, most professional hockey players are missing multiple teeth, and it’s not because of poor dental hygeine.
Well there ‘used’ to be a ton of pics with football players without teeth and some of those guys were damn tough.
Maybe football players have just gotten a lot softer.

Two neighbors had snowblowers die on them today. Never really thought snowblowers were worth the effort.
We had wet, heavy stuff fall last week. Our snowblower broke as well.
When they work, you love them more than anything. When they break, you hate them and question the purchase.
I’d say we got 14” or 15”
Snow on top was fluffy, but heavy, wet and slushy on the bottom.
Solid 12” on the driveway, but I walked to a neighbors and it was deeper than that.
It was never blizzard conditions imo.

Got some apple flavored chicken brats made up yesterday and just put some buffalo wing chicken snack sticks on the smoker. Pretty excited to try these ones

My mother in law can’t eat pork and at times it bothers my wife as well. The hard part is trying to keep them juicy and get enough flavor since I can’t add pork fat. The tomato basil ones i made a couple weeks ago turned out awesome though.
That would be my concern also. Keeping them juicy enough. Hopefully they turned out well.

I got a solution for ya, just don’t watch the games. I don’t.
Canada was down by two goals, and from that point on got three power plays and Finland got none. One even came from a failed challenge from Finland.
And don’t worry, I didn’t watch the game. Was following the gamecast on my phone. I knew when Canada was down by two goals that they would come back and win it because that’s what everyone outside of Finland wanted for the gold medal game.
It’s the same reason I believe the next one is rigged and the USA will for sure win.

As you’re probably aware, for the NHL to agree to let the players take a break for the Olympics they required NHL referees for all games involving NHL athletes. Pretty good chance the referees are going to be from either the US or Canada as I don’t think too many European referees fly across the Atlantic every week to ref games.
I watched the whole game and the only iffy penalty I saw was the first one against Canada. Unfortunately, Canada just played better in the second 2 periods. The offside challenge was close, but I don’t think even Finland thought they would win that challenge, but they had to challenge there.
Sadly, it sounds so much like the Oilers I’m thinking McDavid is rubbing off on the rest of the team. Get in a two goal hole, get a last second goal to get to OT, etc…this has been the whole season with them.

I haven’t watched hockey in years. I’ve watched a few matches during the Olympics and there is a big difference between the men and women.
I admire your fortitude. I love hockey but watched exactly one minute of women’s hockey when I was at UND and realized it was not for me.
I’m not an Olympics guy. I just don’t get it. It was better before I was born when it was real amateurs. As far as I’m concerned any tax dollar spent on an olympic athlete is a waste.
I would take an Oilers Stanley Cup victory 1,000,000,000,000,000 times over a Canadian gold medal.
I would greatly prefer a Wild Stanley Cup as well, but I think the biggest benefit I see to the Olympics is getting new viewers. Even just here, there are a few who said they have watched but don’t watch the NHL. The number of people I have seen ask or have asked me directly about the 3 on 3 OT is pretty crazy. As people realize that the players are NHLers and the rules are pretty much the same (other than the ice size which nobody is going to notice), maybe it brings more viewership to the NHL.
Yup, definitely take a championship over gold. It could help with the growth of the sport. I’m pretty sure the NHL loves the attention it brings from the Olympics. Live games are very cool. I’ve been to a few wild games in the last couple of years and the atmosphere is awesome when they’re winning.

Agree 1000 percent (although it was after I was born…) The argument back then was the European “club” teams were essentially professionals so we should be able to bring in professional players also. I think they should go back to amateurs to give younger players a chance to make it there.
