Watching the MNF football game, the Lions are handling business against the Seahawks. It’s halftime as I write this, and I’ll be long asleep before it’s over, but it looks like the Lions will be 3-1 and a game behind the Vikings. We’ll find out.
Vikings/NFL News and Updates:

The Austin-American Statesman has picks, predictions, and odds for Vikings vs. Jets.
From MSN, the NFL concluded its investigation of Brandon McManus after the kicker was accused sexually assaulting two flight attendants on the team’s flight to London in 2023. The league said that “There was insufficient evidence to support a finding that a violation of the personal conduct policy occurred”. Attorneys for the accused are confused by this, as they said the league had not met with their clients, despite the clients offering to speak with the NFL. I’m not surprised, the NFL is as corrupt of an institution as you will find.
The Chiefs believe Rasheed Rice may have torn his ACL, from the NY Post.

- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
I didn’t watch the “debate” last night but I watched a clip of the “moderator” attacking Vance regarding the Springfield Haitian immigrant issue, then interrupt him repeatedly as he answered her many false comments on him. She accused him of inciting violence, with “unproven facts” and said he lied when he called them illegal immigrants. This is because apparently Harris implemented some policy that granted them temporary amnesty. I didn’t know Vice Presidents had any authority under the Constitution to implement any policy, especially when it comes to granting amnesty. But I guess the moderator thinks that’s “legal” and thus the immigrants are here legally.
Anyway, I thought Vance was very good in handling this ridiculous leftist assault on him and obvious heavily biased slander. If this is how the rest of the debate went, then the left continues to use the debates not to really discuss issues, but as a character assassination event against the right to influence the election.
Had never seen Walz much before. He’s about executive caliber as my dog. Can’t believe he was a CSM – must have been a screwed up outfit.
Well, we know that in the Reserves, people are “hired” into positions, vice going through the normal Army promotion process. Waltz ascended the ranks not because he was judged fit for promotion, but to fill a vacancy. The fact that he never went to the CSM school, attests to his lack of commitment to his position, his unit, and the Army. He wanted the position, but wasn’t interested in really doing the work to pin it on. Then he claims he’s a CSM. No, you were hired to fill this position, but too lazy and non-invested to actually achieve it. Then you ran like a coward when your unit was scheduled to deploy. Worse, you tell the masses you were a CSM as part of your political campaign, and promote yourself as a warrior. Despicable.
I can get behind all of this but I always have to see if people actually believe what they say or not…
Was Trump also a draft dodging coward for his wittle bone spurs to get out of serving? Don’t tell me they were two different situations because obviously that’s true. But the sentiment remains, do you stand up for your country when your country comes calling, or do you hide like a coward?
Here you are again, twisting reality, and trying to assert that Trump is bad, and do your character assassination on him. Sorry Edge, but your false equivalencies won’t wash here. Trump NEVER claimed he was military hero. Trump NEVER claimed he received an appointment to the Naval Academy. He has never run on false claims to a military career.
Stop with the character assassination narratives. That’s all the left is about, and you continue to parrot this crap, to somehow say we should vote for people actively trying to destroy our country.
You won’t answer the question. It’s not character assassination. You called Walz a coward for running like a coward. That is the only part I am comparing and wondering if Trump gets the same name calling from you for also running like a coward. It’s incredible the double standards Dems and Pubs hold their side as opposed to the other side to and are absolutely blind to the fact they do it.
Trump didn’t run. He was medically disqualified. Not only did Walz run, he ran for office claiming he was a war hero.
Pfffffffffffffftttttttttttttttttt… you guys are comical.
You are just a leftist, propagandist, and parrot.
OK, Edge, you want to play this little game? There were many thousands of liberals screaming against the war, and many tens of thousands of college students and others using legal exemptions approved by Congress to avoid the war. This includes folks like Biden, BTW. Trump had a medical exemption, that some have said was questionable. I won’t argue or worry about that point, other than to say he had a valid, legal, medical exemption under the law.
Avoiding the Vietnam war, was something many Americans supported, and cheered at the time. You know, all your brethren on the left. Now it’s cowardice according to you. Make up your mind. Trump was far from alone in this particular event in our History, and at the time his avoidance was “heroic” to the left. Totally hypocritical now, of course.
That was hardly the point.
It was about being “executive material.” – whether the military or otherwise.
Sentiment aside – this guy in a serious leadership position?
My point is one is a coward for running. But the other isn’t. I won’t take anyone’s points seriously who don’t actually believe in what they say. Because why should anyone? I think Trump is a dodge drafting coward. Because he is. I did not know all that info on Walz. Sounds like he’s a coward as well.
One was in the Army, and getting paid, the other was not.
False equivalencies don’t work here Edge. I won’t allow you to twist the realities to support you leftist views.
Trump never enlisted in any military and then claim he had bone spurs to get out of going to war. Is he a coward for not allowing himself to be drafted, yes, if the bone spurs are not a real issue. If he has a legitimate medical reason to not be drafted, then no.
Walz voluntarily signed up to be in the military. Took full advantage of the benefits of being in the military, i.e. getting paid to serve and GI bill. When his name was called upon, he tucked tail and ran. For this, he is not only a coward but a total piece of shit.
Well, also, being a governor is an ‘executive’ position too. And he did that for eight years. WOW!
It’s still Tuesday!!!!
tuesdays suck as they are, but this is just unbearable
Worst day of the week, Tuesday. Hope we get a hump day thread soon.
Anybody watchng the VP debate tonight?
CBS, so I guess three against one.
Yes, but Vance is a much better speaker and gives more logical, straight rebuttals than Trump, so it will go better.
“The facts, while admittedly interesting, are ultimately irrelevant to the situation.”
And I wonder if people are really interested in the facts or logical presentation – would rather be ‘entertained’ and ‘feel good.’ Instant gratification rules the day.
Or they are just looking for ‘bias confirmation’.
This. CBS said it so it must be true (especially if it’s already what I think)!
3 on 1 As expected.
It will be like Trump/Cackles.
Vance will win on the issues, Waltz will dance around and be declared the winner by the fake news.
Or they’ll say “Vance was too mean”, and “Timmy struggled because of his speech impediment, or he would have dominated”. Something like that.
Nope.
I watched it. The Harris team has really worked on Walz’s slush mouth. Other than that, he is still an idiot.
Well boyz and girls, I am off to do some end of the work day bonding with coworkers over adult beverages….its tough being such an awesome boss
another reason KOC is a better coach than Dan Campbell…
DETROIT — A part of Dan Campbell felt remorseful Monday night — after he didn’t save a piece of NFL history.
His quarterback, Jared Goff, threw a perfect game, setting an NFL record by completing all 18 of his passes to help the Detroit Lions defeat the Seattle Seahawks 42-29 for the first time since 2012.
By the time Campbell realized the significance of Goff’s all-time efficient performance, it was too late — he had already rewarded wide receiver Jameson Williams and safety Kerby Joseph with game balls in the locker room.
“I just gave the game ball to somebody else, so I feel awful,” Campbell said. “I knew he played a heck of a game. I did not realize he was perfect. I did not know he was literally 18-for-18, but I knew he played really well. You could feel it. He really found his rhythm early.”
KOC would never have made this mistake
Maybe KOC gives away 53 game balls after each game?
He did get bailed out on at least one incompletion by penalty, and took a safety. So yes, “perfect” in a sense from the stat line.
My retired coworker did that in 87. He put like $5 on the Twins in Vegas. I’m not sure what he got out of it.
reply fail…
Even the Viking hater Stephen A is coming around. What is going on in the world?
This is one endorsement I could live without. He’s an ass.
He really is
Yeah, not a respectable person
I find it funny that the only people that aren’t talking about how good the Vikings are is Vikings fans. It’s almost like we’ve seen this story before.
Heck we are good! We are right now the best team in football. Now, we’ve got a few more games to play, but we can win the SB this year.
I’m still waiting for Slick to weigh in on all of this.
I also heard a rumor that his daughter is a Vikings fan. Darnold to the bowl would be a pretty good redemption story line for the NFL and maybe Rogey owes his daughter one.
And the Swifty Queen has not been to a game in two weeks.
That might knock them down a bit in the SB sweepstakes.
Haha yeah, it that were true, why have his minions (the refs) screwed the Vikings so many times in the past 15 years? Maybe she just became a fan? Haha
Or she just got old enough to care and get into it. According to the Wikipedia his daughters are 23ish. Maybe she has a new boyfriend that Roger really likes who’s also a Vikings fan.
Or, as I have found, daughters ‘spend’ your money not earn it. And Roger’s income is driven by the owners and ratings which may (probably) have favorites.
Haha maybe. But why the screwjob in Lambeau then? Shouldn’t we be getting typical Chiefs/Packers treatment with all the fake/bad/missed calls going our way? He needs to step up to make his daughter happy.
Had to make it close for entertainment purposes and the refs just fell into old habits. This being on the Vikings side is new to them.
Haha yeah, I can imagine that for decades of the opposite, that just feels more right.
Old habits die hard. They’ll get used to the new world order the same as we will, eventually.
When we start getting the calls over the Packers, Cowboys, Chiefs, let me know.
Meniscus, but it’s a good point.
You beat me to it because I had to look up how to spell meniscus.
Potatoe
I’m living in the land of looking too far ahead…what do you guys think about the game on the 20th? Big game and I’m never a fan of a big divisional matchup after the bye (I’d change my tune if we pick up significant injury in London), that game looms large now for the NFC north. Then there is always the awful short week away game to follow in LA.
Huge game on the 20th. I think we win. Detroits defense looked pedestrian last night. Sure their offense looked great but Seattle was missing a ton of guys on the defensive side.
That is 3 weeks from now.
Time enough to worry about it after the bye when we see how the Loins do in their next two games.
I still remember 2016…Carson Wentz stepped on our neck in game 6, it was only a meaningless TD in the final seconds that made the score look respectable.
The 2016 season was the Minnesota Vikings‘ 56th in the National Football League (NFL) and their third under head coach Mike Zimmer. After starting the season with five consecutive wins prior to their bye week, the Vikings managed just three victories after the bye and were eliminated from playoff contention in Week 16 with a 38–25 road loss to the Packers.[1] They joined the 1978 Redskins, 1993 Saints, 2003 Vikings, 2009 Broncos, 2009 Giants and 2015 Falcons in missing the playoffs after starting 5–0 or better. The Vikings are the only NFL team to have more than once started 5–0 or better and missed the playoffs. (per Wiki)
^ this is the correct response. But also, the way Detroit has played, im not worried about them nearly as much as I was when the season started. I think we take care of them at home easily.
I believe the lions have a bye next week
they do, I have Gibbs on my dungeons & dragons team
I had typed up a post about remembering 2016 but it was swallowed up by the mods.
Did you mention a certain type of flower? That is a no-no.
I saw something pop up then disappear. Maybe it’s waiting approval. I’ll check.
I just approved it like 5 minutes ago. I think there were too many links, but it should be there now.
Hweird
Too many linkies in my slinky, just like the hibiscus discus in my meniscus.
This roster and coaching staff and philosophy could not be more different than 2016. Why do you refuse to have fun when this is the most exciting team and season so far in 7 years?
I don’t refuse to have fun, but I am realistic. I also recall you being over the moon for the Twins back in July.
Energy bills here are 20-30% below the national average.
Much nicer than Commifornia and their above average costs. $114 here vs $447 in San Diego.
It feels so good.
That’s probably because it’s dirty, oil derived energy though.

Post mentions Hydro Power.
Won’t anyone think of the Pacific lamprey?
Lampreys are in the Snake River, that is the closest river to us.
Have not heard of them being on the menu so I doubt that they are good eating. Google says the river version isn’t as good.
Aren’t they a historical Native American food though? Are you really going to destroy Pacific Northwest Native culture just to run your AC?
We are making efforts to repopulate the Lampreys.
So with enough virtue signaling we are olly olly oxen free.
You would think with the wonderful weather in San Diego energy bills would be low.

Also, would like to see Dallas Turner’s numbers get going. Easing him back from Knee Injury no doubt
Ingram is the 2nd best lineman on the team!
Proving once again that PFF sucks.
Yea. makes you wonder about all the grades and their values.
No.
PFF allows you to use their numbers when it benefits your argument.
JRo_42
I found the week three pick em summary. Posted it in the thread below…
Haha thanks! You didn’t have to do that – I was mostly just trying to get the Kirk haters riled up! 🙂
No biggie.
Kirko sucks
The end
Class act that’s for sure.
These guys are fortunate Harry Truman, a democrat as I recall, isn’t President.
Yes, the mafia tends to cuss.
Well yeah.
It used to NOT be on the official media release though.
Times have changed.
Regarding the union talk….
About 15-16 years ago I took a job with the state mental hospital (started in Security, eventually switched over to Psychology Tech side, eventually left as a Supervisor) during our training they brought in the local union rep. For an hour this guy went on and on about everything we have including our wage, benefits and workers rights were because of his union. He also went on to tell us that all non-union employees enjoy the same benefits as union employees. Basically, if you joined the union – your dues would go to cover the cost of an attorney should you find yourself at odds with the state and have to sue/obtain legal representation. All other matters would be handled by the Union Steward or Rep – including any/all meetings with HR that may result in disciplinary action – this meant that you weren’t defended by a lawyer, just a Union rep (who may or may not have a firm grasp of policy and procedure) and basically the only time you were afforded a lawyer was if you were terminated and only then it had to clear the ‘Union Board’ to make sure your defense isn’t a frivolous use of Union funds.
Union dues were $35 a week. That’s over $1500 a year spent on a might/could….
So after he lays out his case, he turns to us and says ‘So now tell me why you SHOULD NOT join the Union…’
So I raise my hand. And I say…
’Instead of paying you $140 a month in union dues wouldn’t it make more sense for me to put that same amount in a savings account and use the money as a retainer on a private attorney in the event I actually need one? If I join the union and run into trouble I’ll be going into HR – who always has a lawyer rep from the state – and pleading my case with a fellow union member as my representative, but not a lawyer? Do I then have to hope that my Union Rep has the same vast knowledge of labor law and policies as the Bar-Certified lawyer sitting across from us?
I think I will put that money in savings. Then I can afford an actual attorney of my choosing, in the event that I need one. Should I not, then I haven’t wasted over $1500 on Murray from the boiler room attempting his best Perry Mason impression to catastrophic results…..’
Pretty much ended his little spiel…..
Hahaha post of the day there my friend!
This rules and good for you!
Years ago we had union reps sitting out at the end of our parking lot at work. They were handing out flyers and asking if we were tired of being laid off every summer, and how they could help with representation. My friend and I looked at them at the same time said if you take away our summer layoff, we will hunt you down.
News reports that Iran is firing missiles into Israel. That and a dockworker strike and should be some stocks in the bargain bin later today.
Nah, you and everyone should know that all news is good news for stocks. Has been for about the last 3 1/2 years, but particularly the last 1.
Petroleum futures shot up, I wonder why?
Some day somebody should think about building a pipeline to get that Canadian oil down the the gulf coast and all the refineries there so the US is protected against international disruptions.
It would be so important to our security you might even call it a Keystone policy.
Well if we all bought electric cars we wouldn’t need any oil whatsoever.
There is that. I still don’t know where the plastic is going to come from, not to mention the fact that lithium mining pretty heavily relies on sulfuric acid. You’ll never guess where the sulfur for that acid comes from….
I hope you are ready to eat less food as well considering the production of the primary fertilizers required for modern agriculture rely heavily on oil refining as well.
Ha, the side benefit that will cure obesity. These guys really think thru this stuff.
Man, you’re right. I never thought of it from that angle.
Darn your hot takes.
Haha. Perfect idea.
Where do you get all the power for the electric cars. And then there’s the Chinese and Indians who hardly use any energy.
Please note the sarcasm font above.
Haha yeah, that was a pretty obvious one.
0830 Sunday morning on NFL+ for those of u not local, for either team. $7 a month then cancel or sportsurge.net or equivalent. Those sites work but really pain in the ass with all the popups and sometimes lagging
It’s on NFL Network too isn’t it?
Yes.
0730 our time. I’m planning on watching about noon.
I will be up with plenty of time to catch it live.
I do chores on Sunday mornings. I detest the London games for starting so early, mornings are for work not football.
I hears ya’
Kiddo and I are going to be on a hiking trip in northern North Dakota, going to watch the game from the hotel room before we head out for the day.
It should be pretty up there with the changing colors
I think I still have NFL plus. I better check before Sunday.
You need to use NFL Bite etc with a good browser and an add blocker , like Ublock Origin then they run better but yes, they do lag and you have to refresh every now and then. But hey, ITS STILL FREE!
thanks
Reinforcements incoming
Honestly, his backup has been good. Not sure if it moves the needle much, especially if he’s not 100%.
Better to be getting healthier than losing guys.
Not saying it isn’t. Just doesn’t excite me much.
Cashman is having a good year, so is that guy with the hyphenated name. Our young guys are really flourishing this year.
Agreed, just means Flores will scheme his backup into situations he thrives in, In Flores we trust! Best part is, I refer to him as his backup because I don’t remember his name… you too?
Haha yeah, some hyphenated name.
I miss Salad Shakers from McDonalds. They were actually kind of good. I read today that they were discontinued in 2003. Time flies.
I still think about them sometimes, though. They were an easy, tasty way to eat a salad.
Big Macs have enough lettuce to get buy with.
I don’t think I ever had those. Sounds like they ran 2000-2003 which coincides with my half decade of voluntary poverty – when I would stick to the dollar menu.
I remember McDLT’s fondly.
2000-2003 were part of my major hermit years. I did nothing but work, write and help on the farm. I honestly do not think I took a single day off from all of those three on a single day in that time period.
Iran is now threatening missile action for like the millionth time.
I think Israel has killed anybody with knowledge on how to use them.
All talk.
@I don’t understand why we don’t let Tehran run their little uranium centrifuges for peaceful purposes@
At this point, I’d have us ahead of Chiefs.
Now, the Texans and Bucs ahead of the Lions, Ravens, and Bills is beyond me.
And then Skins ahead of Packers and Niners.
Guy should have stopped after one and two.
Try this one.
https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-power-rankings-week-5-2024-nfl-season
Fuck, this worries me. After beating all these teams that were supposed to kick our ass, now we play a team who hasn’t looked great and everyone is all about the Viking hype… this is usually where shit starts going south…
Exactly………
Rough days ahead.
We’ve won all our games in London so far. The jets look like shit. If the Vikes keep doing what they’ve been doing the 1st four weeks, we’ll win. Here’s to continuing our winning ways in merry old England (won’t be there to watch the game in person, unfortunately).
#nojinx
All these things you are saying make me worry more…
I have been trying to tell you guys that the Vikings are entering an era of hope and winning the likes of which we can not yet fully fathom. You will come around, just give it time. Then, right when the Vikings are ready to win the Super Bowl, civil war will break out and football will be cancelled.
Or it will be Bills vs Vikings, two cursed franchises, and the stadium will explode right at kick off.
Nuked, just like in that Tom Clancy novel.
Sum of All Fears.
That’s Hines Ward!
Excellent author, still one of my all-time favorites. Vince Flynn is on that short list, too.
Where the Vikes in a playoff game or the super bowl when the terrorists nuked the stadium? I cannot remember.
Regardless, such a Vikings thing to happen.,
Superb owl.
I mean, it’s not that I think they will lose on Sunday, I think they are gonna smack A-A-ron around! But… I just worry haha.
This could be A-Arons last game. I am not hoping he gets injured, just scared to play anymore.
I read that he has a swollen knee. Denvers defense roughed him up pretty good.
Nah, he has Rhodes syndrome. Anytime he plays poorly, he always has an injury as an excuse.
He’s just resorting to blaming his head coach this time.
Guy seems to relish extortion.
Old fashioned, non politically correct, unionism right there.
I hate unions. Good workers don’t need them, bad workers feast on them.
Amen.
Unions aren’t inherently bad. But they have gone WAY too far. Like anything else balance is key. Unions started as a way to balance the power of good workers not being taken advantage of my absolute power of the boss/industry but that scale has been unbalanced by the unions and swayed too far in their direction. Now all they want is absolute power and corruption to line their own pockets. They don’t care about the people they “represent”
When the union gave us a ‘voting guide’ we all used them to vote against ‘their candidates’.
It helped that they gave us a list of the biggest douche-bags.
And they use shady ass tactics like sneaking union people into non union companies to try and get the employees to revolt, even if they have a good thing.
I agree, it just sucks that we sway from way too far one way then in trying to balance someone gets power and sways way too damn far the other way.
I said “of my absolute power” HAHAHA! I meant “of by absolute power”
Prison was the first time I was ever in a union.
Jerks were only in it to take care of their friends.
They played favorites and worked to get perks for themselves.
If you were not a ‘buddy’ they didn’t care about your issue.
Which is why Government employees make up the lion’s share of all union membership.
I have never worked for a union, but have worked with people that have. The common message, is that unions only benefit bad workers. I have actually heard of people getting ran out of union jobs because they work too hard.
The idiocy of some of the policies is astounding. I’ve talked to friends that work in the refineries and it’s amazing they get anything done. Start at 8, wait for an hour for a designated person to show up to conduct air monitoring (literally 2 seconds to stick a probe in the confined space), mandatory break at 10 so at 9:45, walk across the refinery to the break room and sit there until 10:15. Then 15 minutes back to the work site where you sit and wait for updated air testing. Mandatory break at noon for 30-45 minutes. Repeat for the afternoon. This doesn’t include the 30 minutes in the morning to complete a Job Hazard Analysis.
I just bought a room full of toilet paper.
I don’t think TP comes thru the east or gulf coast docks.
Sounds like mobster, has the look too. Whats up with the gold chain???? He is old guy not 20 yr old young buck
Classic. @let those japs chinks and krauts automate to increase efficiency and drive down costs, we don’t need no stinkin’ automatic truck check in@
Damn those companies – trying to use automation and reduce labor costs.
Yeah, same as Mickey D’s employees clamoring for 20 bucks an hour only to be replaced by robots.
My band’s promo video for our EP release. It’s the first track of the EP and the song we always start with live. Just a short 1:30 song to set the tone of what’s to come.
Check it out, crank it up! 🤘

Nice and chuggy!
Very noice!! 🤘
Thanks! We open up for Ringworm on Friday this week. Fast aggressive thrash band.
Ringworm is a little catchier than tinea corporis
slightly lol
Ringworm, that’s the nickname we gave our rival school. Armstrong-Ringstead was referred to as Armpit-Ringworm.
You’re not in a polka band?
They close every show with the Beer Barrel Polka.

I am absolutely not against this… that would rule.
Its KirkTuesday and there is no interesting Kirk Cousins news….shoot.
i heard he’s using that shelf he was saving for his Lombardi trophy, as an extra space for his recent kohl’s purchases
That is a very sensible Kirk course of action.
I had to put this up top. I should go post it over at Acme Packing Company.
Haha they would just make 100 excuses.
Right now, they are the best team in football.
The days of being the underdogs are probably gone for a while. I am hoping no one on this team starts reading how good the Vikes are and continue to play as underdogs every week!
That is the Vikings way.
Doing the opposite of expectations.
Now that they will be favorites, they will choke.
This year’s team seems different, I’m holding out hope.
no no no no no no no no no
I probably won’t care too much if they happen to lose this next one for a few reasons:
London games are a bit weird.
AFC opponent.
Might keep them from getting cocky.
you know what happens to fat cats? Time for KOC to cut up a few stuffed animals.
Oh boy…
If I was forced to choose between Zimmer or Kirk, I’d take Kirk.
In the end, I even liked Brad Childress more than Zimmer.
AFC opponents matter within the Division, since the entire division plays the same AFC opponents on 4 of the 5 games.
Division tie breaking order:
Head to head
Division games
Common games
NFC conference games
I amend my previous statement.
I want them to be as cocky as the ’85 Bears, just the thought of walking onto a football field is a victory.
That’s fair.

Almost certainly.
Just stay healthy. Again, what’s it gonna be like when we get one of the top paid TEs back and Risner who isn’t an absolute turd?
Would be nice to get Risner in there instead of Ingram or Bradbury.
Yup, we’re favored in the London game according to Vegas. First one of the year.
At this point, Jets are not a very good team and we are playing better than anyone.
2.5 points
for a “home” game
Facts.
Literally came. Here to post the same thing 🤣
Great minds think alike.
Skoloholics Pick ‘Em League Update #4
I don’t want to talk about this. I was absolutely manhandled this week by the teams I picked…or didn’t pick. I’m tempted to blame myself, but this is 2024. The self is never to blame. It is all YOUR fault! And probably Kirk Cousins. And maybe Hitler.
I hate you all, except Little Fishin’. He at least has the common courtesy to skip picking for a week to give me a chance. In fact, that is probably what all of you should do: just take this week off. Let me get back into the mix of things. I’d do it for you!
Anyway…
Coming in at number 11 (number 12 is out of the running) is the plucky Little Fishin. Even after missing an entire week of picks he is still only eight points from overtaking the person above him to begin reclimbing the ranks.
That person above Little Fishin’ would be me. I am in 10th place. I SAID I DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT!
JacksonVike and NoDakRube are battling it out in the eighth and nineth positions. Only four points separate them. Who has what it takes to separate themselves from the other? Not even the Trump/Harris battle is as compelling!
Sixth and Seventh place are also hotly contended, as in Marilyn Monroe hot. Only two points separate I’d rather be fishing and DE Viking. And, really, Kirk is still good is not that far ahead of them in fifth place. These places could easily flip-flop in the coming weeks like Harris flip-flopped on the border. Look at me! I’m topical!
Things stay as heated and exciting in the one through four positions, as well. I imagined them all entwined in a sweaty Greek wrestling battle royale. Only ten points separate the bunch. Bleeding Purple N’ Gold is in fourth. BowBunch is in third. Gee…what a surprise, Freezy is in second place AGAIN. That guy is more stable than the Chevy “Like A Rock” slogan. And Surly Viking has shot all the way up into first place. He kind of came out of nowhere. I don’t think he was in a podium position at all the first few week.
Most brilliant pickers of the week go to Bleeding Purple N’ Gold, DE Viking and BowBunch for taking Indy over Pitt. Also, Bleeding Purple N’ Gold, Surly Viking and DE Viking for taking the Ravens over the bills.
Worst pick awards go to Surly for taking Giants over the Cowboys and DE Viking for taking the Chargers over the Chiefs.
The only picks everyone got right was Detroit and Houston. On the flip side, everyone got the Jets wrong.
So…we are on to week 5. I need to channel all of my hatred and rage and come back with furious vengeance with a perfect pick week. To motivate myself, I will listen to this song on repeat all week long…
I will defend my Giants pick. They should have won the game, and they did cover the spread.
However, this week I am picking Tampa vs the Falcons, even though it is a short week and the home team normally covers.
I expect the ATL QB to fail. And it is Tues, so I can say that.
Yep, it was close to being a best pick of the week, fo sho.
Ok Kamala.
You must have made a recent trip to the SE because your accent is lingering.
I will zero in on the games Wednesday afternoon.
Falcons could easily be 0-4.
Tough game to pick.
I only had 2 points on the game, so it wasn’t like it was a stupid gamble.
They were tied in the 4th quarter.
I can’t argue that. It was a reasonable gamble that just didn’t hit.
I have the best W-L record.
It is Kirko Tuesday, so it makes sense that GF would say that.
I noticed there was no summary last week when Kirk Is Still Good was in the lead…. conveniently forgot? Or did I miss it? 😉
He couldn’t get himself to type something so abhorrently false.
I did one. You must have missed it.
I think it was Tuesday that I did it. Or maybe it was Wednesday. Might have been Wednesday because I think I did the last Survival one Tuesday and then did the pick em Wednesday.
JRo looking for the summary. Coincidently it is the same person in the replay booth review the Packers interception.
Haha yeah, I saw one for the survival league, but no pick ’em.
I found it for you. I am a full service commissioner…
Skoloholics Pick ‘Em League Week #3

It was another exciting week in the Skoloholics Pick ‘Em League. The highlight was probably the streaker that appeared during the Monday Night Game in my living room, which was, of course, me.
But not all is so rosy-cheeked. Alas, Little Fish’ and Rick Vice become the first victims of attrition. They did not get their picks in and sunk all the way to the bottom of the standings. Part of success is consistency. They can still get back into it with clever picking and hoping someone else succumbs to the grind of a full season.
In 7-10 place, JacksonVike, Bleeding Purple ‘N Gold, DE Viking and NoDakRube are battling like crazy to hold each other at bay and/or get on top of one another in a purely platonic way. Only four points separate them.
Likewise, 5-6 are also in a tight-race. That would be me and I’d rather be fishing. Fortunately, neither of us can really lose in the great scheme of things due to our incredible good looks.
Surly Viking is lurking just outside the first podium position. He is only six points behind BowBunch, who currently set aside his bow to hold on tightly to the bronze medal, or loosely, if you are a .38 Special fan.
And Mr. Consistency himself, Freezeface remains in second place. He has had that position locked in like an Alabama tick on a broke-dick dog since the first week. How does he do it? No one should be able to display that level of pick ’em prowess. I am beginning to wonder if Roger Goddell is a regular guest at Freezy’s lake house.
Meanwhile, Kirk is still good has shot to the top of the rankings with a dominating week three performance. He cleared Freezy by a full 10 points.
Dogs of the Week: Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Las Vegas, San Francisco and the Bengals burned every player. We all picked those teams to win, and they all failed.
On the flip side, everyone got Buffalo, KC and Seattle right.
Terrible pick awards go to Bleeding Purple N’ Gold for being the only player to pick New England in the Jets/Patriots matchup. Also netting the award are myself, JacksonVike and Surly Viking for picking Dallas in the Ravens/Cowboys matchup. What were we all thinking? I was mostly thinking about streaking. I don’t know what others were thinking.
There were no exceptional picks in evidence where a few got it right and most got it wrong. But those will come…
GET YOUR PICKS IN BEFORE THE THURSDAY NIGHT GAME, KIDS. IF YOU DON’T…
I do so appreciate your reports! Always find some humor in them. Thanks!
Some real wisdom here:
There was one for survival league, but I didn’t see the Pick ’em one. If there was, I apologize.
I was knockeed out of the survival league in week one.
Again.
Knocked out by the Bengals.
Again.
Same as last year.
I’m consistent.
Good morning fellow fans of the Purple. It’s October 1st.
Yes, finally October. It’s probably my favorite month. Cooler temperatures, grass is about done growing, and the bugs are dying off.
October is the greatest month ever by far. It frustrates me that I spend most of it in a tractor.
Have you ever pushed out any nice bucks while combining corn?
I saw a funny thing this past weekend. I spray a product on all my little treelets in my burgeoning shelter belt that is essentially starch and pig’s blood. I mix up a couple of gallons at a time and apply every three weeks or so. The batch was about 8 weeks old and was particularly rank smelling as I applied it.
Breeze was blowing towards some cover about 1/3 mile away from my place. Saw movement out of the corner of my eye and it was a bunch of muleys breaking out of their beds – the product definitely does its job on the deer. Main thing I watch for now are porcupines the evil little rodents.
Just last year, actually. It was kind of funny.
Normally, pheasants pop out, so I was there with my shotgun. My nephew also was there with a shotgun.
“Do you want to shoot at the pheasants first?” I ask. He is always desperate to hunt something, so I figured I’d let him have at it.
“I’m here to shoot a deer,” he says.
Inside, I’m like…poor dumb kid. He has been pining to shoot a deer for a couple years now. There aren’t any deer here. He is going to go home disappointed again. He should have just been content to blast a pheasant.
Literally two minutes later, a six-point buck walks out of the corn like twenty feet away from us. His eyes go wide as saucers. He fires and actually hits the thing.
He was so happy, and I was just kind of dumbfounded by how it happened to unexpected and fast.
Don’t let the DNR see you doing that, a farmer lost his combine, the grain in his combine, and his truck shooting deer from his combine a few years back here (they told about it at the gun safety training my sons attended). Same with hunting from your car, highly illegal.
Yep, don’t want to do that.
We weren’t in the combine. We were walking end rows in a field where a combine was working.
Hunting near a working combine sounds like a great plan haha
Best I heard about was a guy getting a helicopter confiscated from him.
Why don’t they want you to hunt from a vehicle anyway? Is it too unsporting? Wreck the habitat?
It’s not fair chase, ie sporting. Every state draws the fair chase line somewhere different and it tends to get more stringent as you move west. For example, you can’t bait here, but also, by Montana law a food plot is baiting. Unless they’ve changed it recently the baiting statute actually makes bird feeders illegal. You couldn’t even legally use lighted nocks on your arrows here until a few years ago.
One of my friends hunts from a wheelchair with tank tracks, so those much be allowed.
I wonder if he needs a special permit. States do love their permits.
I doubt that is considered a vehicle. I know in Montana and Wyoming though you can get a permit to shoot from a vehicle though. It does not allow you to shoot from a road however.
I chased a pheasant for the better part of a day running a chisel plow. He just ran in the direction I was turning when I go to the end rows. It kept me entertained for some time.
October is nice, I like the fall in general. Interesting though that octo means 8 in Latin, and the Gregorian calendar names its 10th month October.
What did you call me?
Gregorian is short for Greg
Greg is short for Greg the Leg.

Lions looked very good last night. They will be sad when the Vikings crush them.
Seahawks defense looked really bad. Their poor offense would score a TD, then the defense would give the momentum right back.
The game was closer than what the score ended up.
I posted that picture up top on the open thread 2 weeks ago from the Vikings museum in Eagan.
I had never seen that cereal when Moss was playing.
Looks like a Wrenage creation.
My kids were 6 and 8 years old at the time, so I used that as an excuse to buy that cereal. Kept the box for a few years. It was a lot like lucky charms, but the non marshmallow bits were also sweeter.
Reminded me of the knock off cereals by Malt 0 Meal, in the bags vs box.
