The speculation about Kirk Cousins’ asking price has started, even the delusional homers at the DN don’t agree with the reported cost of Cousins

From the fishwrap west, Establishing Kirk Cousins’ market — and the Vikings’ draft problem

2024 Senior Bowl Day 2 Takeaways from Vikings.com

Kevin Seifert from ESPN (he doesn’t suck) predicts the Vikings to draft JJ McCarthy here’s the full commentary:

The Vikings would be thrilled with this outcome, whether they get McCarthy via a trade up into the first round or by having him fall to them on Day 2. Oregon’s Bo Nix was also available here, and he might have been the choice if Cousins hadn’t been re-signed. But with the veteran under contract for the next couple of years in this scenario, the Vikings have a longer runway to develop McCarthy, who is 21 years old. — Kevin Seifert, Vikings reporter

Seahawks hire Ravens DC Mike Macdonald as head coach, with that there is only one HC job left in Washington

VIKINGS QUESTION OF THE DAY

Extend JJ at 32.5 mil a year or not?

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

They list seven moves.

  1. get a wr/rb

  4. Talent in the CB room. This seems like multiple moves.
  5. Re-Sign Hunter
  6. Draft a DL

Wasnt asking you Mr. Minot. And no that was Tuesday night. You are strawmanning everything now. I dont want a run first QB. I want a QB that CAN run if warranted and doesnt turn into a statue when the pocket collapses. And doesnt take up 12% of our cap. Its really not that hard of a concept to grasp but Kirk Stans ignore it every time.

Skolly was this your alt account all along? An 11 year vet is a better thrower than a Rookie and a career backup? Who woulda thunk? Thats not my point. My point they dont HAVE TO BE AS GOOD at throwing a pretty ball as Kirk to be AS if not MORE effective in our offense. And im not talking about JJ the QB, im taking basically any QB we’d take in the first would be able to get him the ball. Why does everyone think the only way this offense runs is if 8 is here? Its baffling. Did you know the Vikings average offensive ranking with Kwerk is 13th, and its best season was 8th? Not even top 5? Theres room for improvement. And a young, cheaper QB that can actually navigate a pocket is better. Book it.

Also was never advocating for them to be the plan. Thats why you like 8 walk, bring in Minchew for cheap 2 years, draft rookie, draft and build defense this off season and next off season, profit starting in 2025 and far beyond. 2024 is a moot point already, just like 2023 was. This roster has too many holes to be relevant in 2024. Stop kicking the can down the road, plan for the long term for once instead of the short term.

If they wanted to resign Kirk they would do it before March 13th, because then you have 0 chance forcing his hand for an actual team friendly deal, not a 5 mil discount (thats a joke from his agent btw). He’ll be a FA and can test the market. So hopefully they start showing what their actual plan is in the next few weeks.

2 years of Minchew equates to 2 meh seasons.

Why would you do that when you can have 2 losing seasons with a cheaper drafted QB already on the roster, and have more $$ to build an even better OL or DL or RB to help out the QBOTF?

JJ without Kirk – 503 yards in 5 games. 100 per game. 2 tds

They make it a hate crime because:

“Evidence shows the defendant made statements to law enforcement and the public indicating he destroyed the property because of the victim’s religion,”

So the ‘Victim’ was the statue? The Satanic Temple?

The Temple also inflated the worth of the statue to that it would qualify as a felony. Good thing the guy has already raised $1000s for his defense already.

The growing number of ridiculously predictable outcomes makes me question it more and more. Manning and the Broncos winning the SB I predicted in the preseason. KC going this year was way too obvious. The Patriots come back against Atlanta. If I were to bet on football and had to pick a winner of the next SB I would lean heavily on the Jets. Rodgers coming back and it’s been awhile since New York had success. Need to placate that large population base. The only thing that might stop that is Aaron’s politics or some other not yet witnessed story line like Swift that will play out next fall.

I’ve been watching a lot of Forged In Fire lately. Now I want to buy a forge and make a knife. I looked up forges, and they are actually surprisingly cheap. You can get a start-up one for like $150.

I often stop watching the episode after that point. I think the best part is when they are under a time crunch and trying to problem solve to just get a blade done in parameters to try to pass the test.

Once they go back to their home forge, it is still interesting, but the episode loses that sense of urgency, and it becomes more about building something nice…and some of those guys do built beautiful stuff. I really like that Damascus pattern they get on things.

It’s funny, I used to love reading GI Joe comics, especially the ninja stories about Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes, and they had one issue about Zartan learning how to make ninja swords from a swordmaster. It talked about folding hard and soft steel together until the layers became innumerable, and I always thought that sounded like magic. How could it be possible.

Now I know! It actually looks pretty doable if you have the right tools.

I hate when somebody shows up to the final with an ugly ass sword and the other guy has something that looks awesome and the ugly one wins because the nice one has one little defect or something.

Yeah, I’m talking about when it’s close and one guy gets a tiny knick in a blade that is actually historically accurate and loses to a guy that just has a hunk of steel that barely fits the parameters set by the judges.

JacksonVike
Reply to  bowbunch
1 February 2024 9:44 am

I get the same way, the one guy fucks around trying to do something stupid to set him apart and it doesn’t work, and probably wouldn’t make a difference, so he shows up with a piece of turd that is strong and within parameters. The other guy focuses on making a great blade and loses by a minor flaw.

Ditto and I have access to refractory/fire bricks so I would just need an old grill that I could rip the burner out of and I bet I could build one.

Wrenage

That would probably work great. You really just need a place to hold some heat to get the steel up to temperature.

Yeah and a little air flow. Could probably fashion a burner out of some steel tubing as well but you’d still need a regulator so just find an old grill at a garage sale for 20 bucks and you’re golden.

One of my (now retired) coworkers has a grandson that makes his own knives. From his first clumsy efforts at age 8 to the products he makes now at 14 he has made lots of progress. Just shows that YT videos really can turn a layman into an expert given motivation, time, and the right tools.

The Internet is a goldmine for increasing knowledge, that’s for sure. I use Google and YouTube all the time to figure out how to do things.

Heck, I once talked to a doctor who said he is in his office going to Wikipedia for answers after examining some patients.

So, I could basically be a doctor if you give me a PC and an office!

The Mechanics that worked on my pickup last summer said YT had all of the answers and were cheaper/better/easier than the professional sites for auto repair.

Example, Tacoma has a little temp/compass thing in an overhead display, Mine stopped working, they looked on YT, found how those often break due to a failed connection, took it out, solder the connection and presto.

They were quite pleased with themselves.

Honestly, I google things 3-4 x / day. Things like “supraspinatus insertion” or “amorphous calcification lateral to elbow differential”. Lots of incidentalomas in my field and impossible to remember all the normal variants when you’re a generalist like me.

They usually use the concrete walls/floors to sharpen any metal they can get their hands on. The general population now get plastic sporks but they can still melt the tip and form it into a pretty sharp point.

Which I have no doubt ‘George the Whore’ already knew.

For all Gen Zs reading this, McCarthy is a reference to Charlie McCarthy, a dummy who murdered communists during the Civil War when the French fought the Zulus. Those who don’t learn from history are condemned to repeat it. Let us never have dummies use their government station to purge political opponents ever again.

Fortunately, that could never happen now!
