From SI.com, the Vikings are 3.5 point underdogs going into Saturday’s game against the Bengals. Not shocking, the Vikings just named their starting QB & there’s only 36 hours until kickoff. Also at SI, snap counts from Sunday’s Vikings @ Raiders game.

I suspect most of those here have at least heard about it.
I didn’t know it was discontinued. I drank Dr Pepper to excess for years until I managed to give myself type 2. Switched to Diet Coke for a while. Nowadays it’s black coffee until about noon, ice water the rest of the day until 4:15 – then I have one of those mini cans of Coke over ice in a juice glass. Then back to water. Wife still drinks the Diet Coke with her popcorn….

A little slow.
Seems Cam Newton has some podcast and said Tua, Goeff, Purdy and DAK are just system QB’s. Almost all sports shows throughout the day were really taking him to task. Did provoke some thoughtful discussions of what really is a system QB and it’s pluses.
Most folks were all over Cam.
Don’t know how to get the podcast myself, saw most of it from clips on the major shows.
Interesting though if you get a chance. since we once in a while talk about QB’s around here.
So if the Black Kirk Cousins is a System QB does that automatically make KC a System QB??
Ok, I got from QB to KC so I will turn the discussion to all of the KDS types, both sides of course.
For sure he’s a system QB, but so was Brady, Manning Stafford and one gujy claims even Elway, and quite a few sort of said you have to be a system QB to be good in the NFL. If you can’t run your teams “system” well , you’re gone.
The main point was the mountain of grief given to Newton. Some even claimed he was jealous with all these backups playing and he’s sitting home with no calls.
No need for any KDS.
Well once QB and KC is mentioned some Skoliacs cannot help but start the discussion of KCs pros and Cons due to KDS.
I expect no less this time.
Kam can start a Pity Party with Kaepernick and any other washed up QB that wants to join.
Absolutely no mention of KC today. But there was a lot of thoughtful discussions of QB play in general. For example, how saying someoone is a “system QB” has become sort of a knock meaning they can’t make plays with their legs. But many pointed out how they make plays above their neck as opposed to below the neck.
Anyway, Newtons put down remaks sparked a lot of thoughtful discussion across many sports shows.

Cam’s main weapon was his legs and body type. Big dude, fast for that size and could run through tackles – was basically Carolina’s goal line back. He was also gifted with a strong, though not particularly accurate arm. He wasn’t gifted with the arm talent to put touch and loft into throws that required it. Carolina’s offense back then was predicated on Defense’s paying attention to Cam’s mobility, especially on designed runs – this allowed Carolina to take deep shots (Something Cam was pretty good at, as long as the throw could be on a line, because he had zero touch on balls traveling 25 yards or more) I remember lots of deep throws to Ted Ginn Jr and Devin Funchess during Carolina’s SB run – highlighted by Ginn dropping several surefire touchdowns.
In college he had success in similar fashion, albeit with more spread elements and more RPO’s
My point – those were both ‘systems’ that he was successful in. Ask him to do what Mahomes does in Reid’s system or what Burrow does in Cincinnati….
For that matter…. Cam spent a year in New England and it was a disaster. Absolutely abysmal offensive output.
And I have little doubt that aside from perhaps struggling with verbiage regarding play calls neither Mahomes nor Burrow would struggle to find success in any system they played in. Brady was long thought of as a system guy under Belichek – then won a SB in TB under Arias and a completely different system (undoubtedly with input from Brady using what he’d learned over 20 years spent in New England)

I appreciate that. Some people make comments that are easy to
misinterpret, take out of context, misread, include in the summary but some people are more difficult, like NVF is probably the toughest, he’s always so straight laced about stuff. Lifer and Five were absolute gold though with some of the ridiculous stuff they’d say.I am glad to be among the people that you find comedy gold from.
I try to parse my words to keep the ‘bad things’ away but sometimes there is just no avoiding it.

It is really hard to argue against that….BUT what if you were home on your farm drinking and your son got his lower leg chopped of in the farm equipment and the nearest hospital is 30 minutes away so you throw him in the car to drive to the hospital but because your BAC is .08 the car won’t run so he bleeds out and dies…..stupid government over reach…

It depends on what the technology is. Breathalyzer in every vehicle? Dumb, how am I supposed to get home from the bar? Anything else that “could” detect impaired drivers is likely to trigger on other situations as well like a medical condition, sleepiness, bad roads, etc.

My grandpa was killed by a drunk driver and I HATE THIS if it’s a breathalyzer. They aren’t even that accurate. You can be perfectly sober, sip a fourth of a shooter and if yo breathalyze right away you’ll be off the charts drunk. This type of thing is literally a slippery slope.

In MT highway dept for the individual counties put up white crosses next to the highways any place there was a MVA fatality. There is a 2 lane highway on one of the Rez’s that has 72 crosses in < 70 miles. Don’t know the time frame. Butte and Anaconda are gin mills. Know of guys with >/= 8 DUI’s. I am not for the above but drunk driving is a real problem, still, in MT.
In SD they have white signs that say THINK and x marks the spot for that. When I was a kid a drunk driver killed the sister of one of my classmates right at the intersection of two major highways on the edge of town, but the parents and she survived, years later I was talking to her dad at church and it strangely came up when we were talking about music (he was an accomplished guitar player who had been a contributor to some big name bands in the 70s) and he said the sign was an absolutely horrible reminder of what happened.

It’s a problem everywhere. I remember a news story they were like it’s someone’s 6th or 7th dui. My wife goes how do they keep getting license. So innocent. She didn’t think of people will just continue to drive without one.

Almost a year. Got picked up day after my wedding this summer for it haha. damn.

Well I should say I had a car for like 3ish years. I bought it in Pierre, SD and drove it to the rez and never registered it because they don’t pick people up for that on the Rez because tribal members don’t need to have a license, registration or insurance… My insurance was astronomical especially with my ex-wife having a DUI on record. But yeah so I guess my real answer is years. I finally sold the car. It was used in connection to some crime and they obviously never registered it so it was in my name still. So I got questioned about it.

Had personalized plates let them go 18 mos over and they expired. To get the plates back had to pony up an additional $135. Decided against it.
besides that “additional” fee, are personalized plates free in montana?

I’m the same way with changing the oil, I always make sure hers is done on time, mine sometimes goes a month or so over. My pickup tells me I need to change it at 3k miles but the full synthetic oil and filter say up to 5k, always thought it weird.

Good man, not that we don’t take care of our stuff on time always, but we put our wives before ourselves. My wife’s car is weird like that too, at both Valvoline, my mechanic, and Grease Monkey they have told me that her full european synthetic and filter can go 7k miles, but the car will say to change at 5k. I go with the recommended mileage for warranty purposes and because repairs to a Volkswagon are reeeeealy expensive.
Our CRV’s are the same way according to our mechanic. He says they can go 7k on the synthetic oil. I still have it changed at 5k – I’ve got it timed pretty well so it usually is close enough for either vehicle that I can get them changed at the same time. There’s a little coffee shop around the corner so we’ll go there and grab a cup and a bagel while the work is being done.

my toyota dealership says 10k miles per oil change. i typically do it shorter since i don’t fully trust that. but i also have them do the changes since i’m under warranty with them and i like having everything done by them.
Just walked across parking lot to get lunch and noticed my plates are expired. Just one month though.
Does MT not send out a reminder letter? Here in MN I get a letter at least a month before expiration and instructions on how to do it online or where the nearest DMV is. I do online and it takes all of 30 seconds.

LOL, I imagine the DMV clerk yelling at you for not following procedures listed in the letter because you just throw it away.

Last year had a similar problem – Indy game on Saturday.
Blown out first half, started getting dressed to leave. Then we score a TD.
Watch a bit longer – then we score another TD. Now I’m getting charged – score again.
Anyways, watched the whole game and got to Christmas party pretty late – but it was worth it.
I was stuck in traffic on the way home from visiting “the Ark”, almost more exciting listening to them score after score than watching it on tv (almost)

I’m sure ya know but a hysterosalpingogram – part of evaluation for infertility, make sure the uterine cavity is normal and the Fallopian tubes are open.
This was a fantastic one, very chill and cooperative patient. They are actually rewarding exams as you can give normal reassuring results immediately, or share abnormal findings and sound smrt. I had a saline hysterosonogram two weeks ago with previously unknown septate uterus and both she and her s/o were intrigued and happy to hear it could be fixed.
Only problem with them is they are like a box of chocolates, never sure what you are going to get in terms of reactions and discomfort with the exam.
Seems a lot more fun than being a proctologist.

Left town late last night, stopped and picked up a mixer (8 pints) of Kettlehouse brew outta Missoula. Started with the Double Haul IPA, that was good, so I figured I’d have another. Snow Blind white stout, first drink delicious, second drink a slimey mass enters my mouth. Spit it out. Pour the remainder in a glass and there are several slimey masses in the glass with the beer. About the consistency of a luggie when one coughs one up when sick. I emailed Kettlehouse last night. (Not sure why the below IBS gif made me think of that, but it did.)

That sounds moderately disgusting. Although you got a two-fer – drink a beer and prime your immune system at the same time.
If it had been an IPA, I would have said they accidentally got some cat shit in with the cat piss.

1st sip, got some ‘chunks’, took it back to the store (had just walked out) got a replacement.
Found out later a rat had died in the can before it was filled and sealed.
Still can’t drink dark liquid from a can I can’t see into.
Takes a lot to make me nauseous, and that thar made me a little queasy.
Glad I didn’t find out for a few days after I would have been blowing chunks for sure.

I spit out the ‘chunks’ right away and the clerk ‘volunteered’ the info as he thought it was pretty interesting stuff (he was a teenager working his dad’s store).

I remember at a college party one time, my friend was drinking whiskey cokes. He set his cup down for a bit, picked it back up later and continued drinking.
About five minutes later, he’s like, “This stuff tastes weird.”
I look, and there is all kinds of brown material sticking to the inside of the glass. Someone had used his glass as a spit cup for chew.
I still remember another guy standing with us asking, “Did you get a good buzz?”
LOL, that reminds me of back when I worked in the mine. I chewed at the time and had a soda can in the cupholder that was totally full of chew spit/used chew. This is in the middle of summer as well mind you so this can had been in there for weeks baking in the hot sun all day everyday. Anyway, I went to pick up a friend who was drunk at he bar one night and he thought it was a soda and took a big gulp before I noticed. He puked/dry heaved for at least 15 minutes, I laughed my ass off the entire time.

Loved the game threads on the DN. Not sure what exactly is wrong with me, but I enjoyed them very much.
I found them entertaining, like when that nanya person freaked out on Kodiak and called him assclown mcfuckface. I did not enjoy when that geoff (which I pronounce gee-off) guy would get drunk and start calling everyone names and generally be a jerk, but otherwise they were good.

I have a cousin who finds and sells these kinds of things. I should send you his store link. Also, this is one of the best people I have ever met. He’s the entire reason Sioux Falls had a music scene. He has booked major bands, festivals all over the Midwest and has played in bands all over the country. Then became a pulmonary nurse and now runs a figurine store. When he was a nurse a guy woke up from a coma once and goes, “You’re the bassist for Hammerlord!” haha so he brought him a bunch of merch and shit. They did a whole episode on Amazon on his shop. Seriously one of the coolest and decent people I have ever met.
That looks like a fun place. I only recently started collecting action figures. I don’t think I will ever take it to a big level. It is mostly because no one has any idea what to get me for Christmas or my birthday, so I started coming up with weird things for them to get me that I thought would be kind of fun.

Now I want a Creature From The Black Lagoon Action Figure, also, I feel like Del Toro definitely could have capitalized on the popularity of The Shape Of Water and had someone make action figures of that scaly manfish, especially since The Creature From The Black Lagoon was Del Toro’s inspiration for making it.

Well, it won the Oscar for best picture, Del Toro won best director. Visually it is an amazing movie, well acted, and for me has a fascinating plot. IMO its the second best film he’s ever made behind Pan’s Labyrinth.
I’ll check it out. I didn’t care for Pan’s Labyrinth – just wasn’t into it. Did find it visually striking, but it didn’t hold my attention.
I love his movies but they aren’t for everyone, Pan’s Labyrinth to me was an amazing blending of fairly tale and brutal viscous violence, I know people who don’t like the fairy tale part or don’t like subtitles, which also bothered me a bit, but since my first kid was born I’ve been watching TV with subtitles all the time and I’m used to it. The Shape Of Water is different and appeals to a broader audience than his stuff like Pan’s Labyrinth or Crimson Peak, its more a mystery, suspense, unconventional love story type of movie with a minor amount of violence but nothing like caving someone’s face in with a wine bottle.

That just means when you get a cold you are really going to be hating it. I’m around sick people every day and have never been sick enough to miss a day of school or work since my 12th birthday…(I’m 13).
You may have more than just a bad cold, I felt really sick a couple months ago and finally went to urgent care, turns out I had pneumonia and a hernia.

I didn’t find it interesting, I thought it sucked.
Were they able to push the hernia back in? Or did it require surgery? My dad had this happen while driving in Western Nebraska and managed to get pulled into an ER in Kearney before he passed out. No surgery required – they were able to push it back in and he went to his regular doc and had a procedure done iirc.
I’ve had numerous hernia’s and repairs. Had one, got it fixed. Quickly retuned, had it repaired (n o mesh then). returned again, said hell with it and I lived with it for 16 years Then finally got it repaired.
I knew you could live with/tolerate them for a substantial amount of time.
I can push it back in myself, apparently chronic or severe cough is a common cause of hernia. I have no plans to do anything about it immediately, Doc said it isn’t an urgent type of hernia so I can probably manage for a while, but eventually I’ll have to have surgery.
You may be fine for years. Pain and how it affects your everyday activities is a good guide.

I have never seen Mullens throw a pass -don’t watch preseason.
But reading here, it seems he can throw pretty well and should know the offense. Maybe it’s reasonable to assume he will be a “Cousins Lite” in his play. Given our offensive performance the last two weeks, that would be a big improvement.
That said, the Bengals even with their backup will be a tough test – no way in hell we shut them out. Hopefully, can slow them down some

He is slower than Kirk, and does not have the zip on the ball that Kirk does.

Mullens is actually faster than Kirk, not that either are fleet of foot. He does not have the arm talent Kirk does, though he does cost about 35 million less per year.

Unless Mullens completely sucks, which would be out of character for his career as he has been a serviceable QB, or is injured, he’s the starter for the rest of the season. Hall likely sucks otherwise he’d play, though I’d rather see him to confirm he sucks.

I’d assume so as well, they see Hall every day in practice so my guess is if they thought he was better than Mullens he’d be starting. But at the same time KOC started Dobbs last week after he got progressively worse and really crapped the bed against Chicago and then let him play like 55 minutes of the worst QB play I’ve seen since Spergon Wynn, like seriously Dobbs was worse than Mannion on Sunday, so I’m not all that confident in KOCs ability to judge QBs at the moment.

Browning has looked very good so far, but part of that is the bengals have probably the best WR group in the NFL. He’s a free agent this upcoming offseason, wonder what will come of him if he continues playing well. I hope he sucks Saturday but wish him well otherwise.

Not really, they suck running the ball, Mixon the woman beater averages less than 4 ypc and they average like 80 yards per game rushing. Everyone on here talks trash about the Vikings run game but the Vikings are a better rushing team than the Bengals are.
That is another fantastic show. But looking at the stats and what I’ve seen of him, Joe Mixon sucks and is basically Mattison paid like a top 5 RB.
Only really watched them against Niners and they were able to run. it well enough to keep the niner pass rush honest.
Need to watch some Bengals highlights with Browning playing, looks like he developed well over the last few seasons. Would be nice if we could steal a win at their place, will mostly depend on Flores being able to slow down the Bengals’ offense and Mullens playing an at least serviceable game. And no turnovers please!
