Pretty solid first day overall. Benefits are 2nd to none. Great office, really clean and comfortable. So far so good with co-worker vibes. It’s day one – they’ll dislike me soon enough. Or maybe they won’t. I dunno.
Lots of onboarding paperwork and it’ll take 48 hours for me to get in the system (and you can’t do anything until you’re in the system) so most of today was handshakes and setting up my office – tossing out all the former employees stuff, sanitizing, organizing and reading department literature.
Tomorrow I’ll ride along with UNLPD and get to see the differences in various lots for residential, accessible, commuter and facility parking – certain to be an edge-of-your-seat thriller of an experience.
Feels good to be doing something more constructive. I had an abundance of free time the last year since getting an agency involved with the rental property I inherited from my mother – not that I minded chilling on Skoloholics all day and chatting it up with you yay-hoos – but I was having trouble filling my days aside from Goose walks and porch joints. This will keep me busy and also allow my wife to finish her Masters if she so chooses as I (or my spouse) get 15 credit hours of tuition for free each year.
Now about that porch joint…..

We ended last season 1-6 with very so so QB play. We need solid, good QB play to really do anything.

I have way more exciting “late night” adventures than you young pups. My stepkids dad moved the yearlings into the NE pasture on Saturday, we can tell when the stock tank water is turned on because the leak sensor at our place senses the pump (which supplies our place plus three different stock tanks) cycling the pressure and will alert and eventually shut off the water if I don’t override it. Saturday night in the middle of the night the sensor shut off the water to our house, I was thinking what are those darn cows doing drinking in the middle of the night? (The wife’s ex and I had done some ramblin’ up to make sure the tank was full and not continuing to run in the afternoon).
Sensor kept squawking all day. I finally put it to sleep.
Heading to bed at 10 pm I could see the cows were all bedded down but the light was flashing on the pump controller out in the field (ie pump running). Fark. Put on a headlamp and long muck boots and drove out, checked the hydrant and the tank, they looked okay. Started tramping in the mud (long boots cuz mud and snakes go together) and discovered a big leak in the feed pipe about halfway between the hydrant and tank.
Man, I haven’t had that much fun after 10 pm since my wedding night.

they’re like about 12 years old model wise. But they look clean and you can probably play with them just as well as a newer set.
Those clubs are about 10 or 11 years old. Back in the day, the RBZ (Rocket BallZ) clubs were considered pretty good, but the line didn’t last very long. Don’t think they’re worth much, but should still play decently.
Not sure they’ll be happy if you pull those out at the putt putt GF.

I see freeze is getting some serious street cred today.
Have been out of service the last 3 days, fishing sucked but weather and trip was glorious.
I may be to weak to own a 1 ton diesel. Got a blow out side of the road geography was such that is was difficult for me to lift the tire onto the hub. 8 lugs on a dually torqued to 150 ft/lbs tough to break and then to re-torque to spec. Not to mention the floor jack I carry weighs 70# try moving that on grass with only a few feet of clearance. Wheels on jack don’t roll on grass. I am sore.

Strangest one is people from work who believe the contrails from the jets flying from the AFB here are actually ‘Government Tests’ spraying some chemicals over our community.

If one supposes that a political party in power uses the DOJ/FBI to go after political foes, is that conspiracy theory? Or maybe uses the judicial system?
Yeah, I don’t think it’s “government tests”, but I do believe it is jet fuel they are releasing before landing, which they sometimes do to reduce weight. It all supposedly “evaporates” before reaching ground level, but I do believe there could be some legitimate concerns there. But not “government test chemicals”.
There should be a germ of truth to a good conspiracy theory. Maybe dumped fuel does play a part.
Or take JFK…there could be shady characters behind it, sure, but I am okay with saying Oswald was the only shooter.
The 3-D models of the environment, the layout of the car, ballistics tests on that type of rifle and bullet…all of the hits and wounds are possible with those inputs. They aren’t even that unusual.

My thought was how fast the shots were fired accurately. It was not as if Oswald was sniper trained while in the Marines.
There was no way on earth the commission was going to find more than one shooter or a group effort. An American President is killed and people got away with it. No way.

What I used to love about conspiracy theories is that they sold books. When I run across a book like that, the price can run fairly decent because of the supply and demand factor. Now everyone just posts it on social media because they can’t take the time to actually write a book.
As a kid, I firmly believed the secret to Bermuda’s Triangle was a laser from an advanced civilization on the bottom of the ocean zapping ships when they went by.

I forgot about Charles Berlitz. His problem was that he was too popular, so that kinds of ruins the economics of it all.
The Philadelphia Experiment was another Berlitz book that I devoured as a kid.
