About 30 minutes away the best BBQ joint in Orlando – ribs, pork, brisket, sausage chicken, got it all. With southern cooked green beans, baked beans, cole slaw, and real southern corn bread.
So, ribs with 2lbs of pulled pork, pound of green beans,baked beans,and slaw with four slices of corn bread.
Couple of beers, sit on the deck, and life is good.

There was a great BBQ place outside Ft Hood in Copperas Cove Tx. They had ‘all you could eat lunch’ on Tuesdays. The whole office would go and we were all so stuffed when we got back we were about worthless.

What’s the best way to do baby back ribs?

oven
grill?
Smoker at 225 for 6-7 hours. Even more fool proof is the 3-2-1 method on a smoker (you could use a grill too). 3 hours with dry rub and smoke, 2 hours wrapped in foil with apple cider, 1 hour unwrapped with bbq sauce and add bbq sauce every 20 minutes or so.
Well damnit, don’t have a smoker.
Grill would work. You can get a little box to put wood chips in and turn your gas grill into a smoker. I know Ace sells a couple and pretty sure Scheels does.
In a pinch I’ve stuck a bread pan under the grates so it was closer to the burner and put wood chips in it. Same thing as a propane smoker.
I’m a charcoal guy, maybe indirect heat. I don’t have a family to feed so don’t want to invest.
Indirect heat and just put some wood chips on the charcoal or one of these boxes so your chips are less likely to catch fire.

It’s located in the Belmont district (literally across the street from where Charles Starkweather killed his girlfriend’s family) in a desolate little strip mall next to a check cashing joint. Don’t let the look deceive you – it’s worth navigating the bombed out parking lot.

It could be a VERY strong division and TBH, I think you could make an argument for every team being first or last. The biggest surprise to me is the Bears being first obviously and are the obvious choice if you had to bet is Bears being last. But I wouldn’t be super surprised at any of them finishing anywhere. The funny part is the only argument you can really make for the Lions finishing last (besides injuries) is the fact they are in fact the Lions haha.
At least to me, how you do in. division is important. Easier to go in playoffs as division winner than wild card.
Now as I tell my kids, talking smack is neat, but it takes money to buy the groceries.
Every national rating of teams after the draft I have seen as the Packers and Lions in the top 8 teams. Besars are seen as one if not the most improved.

I watched some McCarthy highlights and lowlights, so I am not basically an expert pundit on him at this point.
One thing I noticed is he will need to be careful with his running, IMO. His body type is not going to hold up to RB hits. Get your butt on the ground, young man.

Agreed. I was surprised at Love’s arm strength. Had several impressive throws last year falling away and off his back foot – all arm strength – and he delivered the ball accurately as well too.
He actually seems to throw considerably better falling away.
He does. Reminds me of Jeff George in that regard. Some of the throws that guy would make off his back foot were unreal. I remember Vikes/Dallas on MNF in ‘99 – 3 days after my 21st birthday – George takes a bobbled snap from the gun, rolls left and uncorks a throw from the 50 yard line that hit Moss in stride for a score.

If he puts on some ‘good weight between now and ‘RB hits’ occurring he should ‘be fine’.
He is the same height as and about 15 lbs heavier than Kirk for comparison. As long as he doesn’t take bad shots he’ll be fine.

You have a preference between Vegas and Stars other than it going 7 games?
They are both good teams. I guess with Vegas being the returning champs they scare me more than Dallas, but the Oilers seemed to figure them out as the season went on. But Vegas can be a physical and suffocating force with some great skill players. The Stars I think we have played at least 8 times in the postseason, I think we match up better with them.
Assuming Vancouver wins their series, they scare me for the second round. They swept the Oilers in the regular season. That’s never a good sign. However, I think they have significant potential to melt down if Oil can steal a game on their ice in the opening two games.

This is where my wife and I played cards last night with a friend for her birthday. 5 pt pitch tournament. 12 teams, 11 matches. Each match is 4 hands and total points are added up and posted to the board. Top overall score wins the pot. $10 per team.
The winners were Lester and Eugene. Lester is half-blind, Eugene half-deaf. They’ve both played accordion in the same Polka band for over 40 years. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder playing 4 hands of cards.
My favorite team was Ann & Marilynn – our friends mother and grandmother. They look sweet. They look nice. They’re stone cold killers with no mercy. Marilynn is a sweet old lady in her mid-80’s, swears like a sailor. Ann is a school teacher. It’s all a ruse. They gave us our worst beat down of the night. 4 hands, 16-0. Woof.
The bar is what you’d expect from small town Nebraska. Rough tables, wobbly stools. The place is festooned in circa-1970’s Husker gear. Greasy kitchen in the back and a good looking college girl wearing a t-shirt that reads ‘F*** Iowa’. Lots of Carhartt shirts and mesh ball caps. The types of people I’ve spent my whole life around.

Quick story: At lunch time on work days I usually slip out the back door of the clinic and go to mass at noon. The church is < 100 ‘ from the clinic. Walking to the door a lady comes running out to ask me if I am from the hospital and there to pick HIM up? I respond yes from the hospital, but just here to go to mass. Walk into the atrium of the church and see the priest talking to a guy about 28-30 yo the guy is all tatted up totally naked except for what appeared to be a ankle gps device. Got the guy a blanket and waited in the back drop until the cops showed. Didn’t get a chance to talk to the priest to get the scoop.

Regarding QOTD, I think they all play a lot and rotate a fair amount. Greenard probably kicks down to DE with his hand in the dirt on passing downs, VG plays some inside at times, and they all get at least 70% of reps. The flexibility of VG being able to play inside or outside, along with Greenard being able to play DE or OLB and drop into coverage makes me excited to see what Flores does next season.

On Flores, why do you have such a high opinion of him?
That’s exactly what I do. I either do a soft 5K or a hard 2 miles and then every once in a while I push the 5K for time too. I did my best 2 mile last week but my app had a hiccup and said one of my two miles was like a 4 minute mile haha, I mean I know I PRd but not by that much!
If 5k time is your goal, you need to sprinkle in some 4 (or longer) mile runs into your program. And slower is fine.
Oof, I’ll get there. For this entire process of build up what I have done is pick a distance, like my first actual distance goal (took time to build up to that even) was 0.8 miles because that was the distance down to the end of the street I live on going north until coming to a school parking lot. Once I hit that time, I picked a time I wouldn’t add distance to until I got under a certain time at that distance. Like when I got to a mile I wasn’t going to go further until I got a mile in under 9 or 10 minutes, can’t remember which. Then I added a quarter on to that. It wasn’t till like a month or so ago a running buddy talked about just running at 75% of your usual pace and you can go for damn near forever. What a help. So yeah doing some longer than 5Ks but slower will help. Just like doing a slow 5K a few times really helped my 2 mile time.
Correct. Your body needs to adjust – but not get too comfortable. Push some, let it get comfortable, relax some, then push again.

I am getting more scientific this summer in my quest to beat a guy in a 5K in September.
Run 1: Intervals
12×400/60 second rest in between one week
6×800/120 second rest in between one week
3/1600/180 second rest in between one week
Run 2: Four-mile tempo
Run 3: 10K easy
I will pepper in some little recovery runs in between as the summer goes along. I may also throw in some longer runs and hard 5Ks to test myself occasionally.

Daaaaamn! I’ve read up on a running hack with kettle bells. You do 1 kettle bell swing, take 1 breath, 2 kettle bell swings, 2 breaths, 3 kettle bell swings, then three breaths. All the way up to 21 and back down. It’s a great hack!
One trick I learned from a YouTube runner is after every run I do…
10 gentle jump squats
16 gentle jump lunges
10 calf raises each leg
It has really helped with my ankle pain. Its like the jumps shock my Anchilles into not stiffening up more so than stretching does.

I do DDPY almost every morning. It has become less of a strenuous thing and more of a long stretch, for the day. Then after work I either do a run or lift. I try and get 3 lifts in and 3 runs in a week. Sometimes life gets in the way but that’s been the usual routine.
Believe body weight is weight (muscle or fat) when it comes to distance running. The legs of distance runners look very different from football players.
As i remember you weigh like 270 and are trying to get lighter.
I love lifting, but given your weight and desire to run and lose weight, you don’t need. to do any type of lifting that will add muscle (at this time),
Light weights very high reps – good for both cardio and toning muscles.
So, even you lifting type days are helping with cardio (for running) and helping you to lose weight – and tone.
Yeah, I’m doing all high rep, lower weight. I got zero worry about the weight on the bar. It is helping me. Everyone can benefit from lifting, just how you are going about it matters. I was at 263 this morning, can’t get under that 260 mark yet… YET. I’ll never be a small person but still pounds to go for sure.

Coach always said we needed LSD – long slow distance to build up the efficiency of the muscles and lungs. I always found there was a significant psychological boost. 5 K seems short after running 6-10 K.

Honestly, and this is coming from a Gopher fan where he played his college ball, he is still a bit unknown as he’s only been a true starter one season. He played sparingly his first 3 years, getting a few starts, but every time he started getting significant reps he seemed to get hurt. Last year he earned a starting spot, stayed healthy, and played very well in Houston, he is elite athletically, sideline to sideline 4.5 speed, good in the run game and very good in coverage. He can rush the passer a bit as well. My only concern is staying on the field.

I remember when I was stationed in Ft Carson I had a PFC in my platoon. He had been a teacher in ND and couldn’t afford to feed his family so he joined the Army. The Army pay as a Private was a raise to him. ND is not an expensive place to live but pay was (is?) terrible. This was in the late ’80s.
It has gotten better in ND…Currently ranked 37th with 57,000 average,
SD is ranked 49th with 52,000 average.
The problem with teachers salaries….
Good teachers who care and put in the time and effort to do a good job are underpaid.
Bad teachers who could give a shit less and do as little as possible are overpaid.
The problem is in the teaching profession you can’t just fire the bad ones. There are plenty of teachers I have encountered where I thought if that lazy piece of shit were working for me he/she would be cleaning out his/her desk.

He was asking everyone if they though teachers should be required to pass exams annually to maintain certification.
When he asked me I said ‘Sure, but first pay then what they are worth’. He stared at me for a minute and then said ‘That’s It!!’. Said he was running for State Sec of Education and needed policy answers and I just gave him one.
I don’t know if he was successful or if that helped with ND teachers salaries.

QotD: I think it’s possible that there isn’t an odd man out. BFlo is known for lots of pressure and lots of exotic looks – disguising blitzes and bringing guys from everywhere. I’ll think you’ll see looks that have all of those guys on the field at the same time. Greenard is a candidate to play with his hand in the ground in some situations imo.
