VIKINGS NEWS
The Vikings traded picks #11, #129, and #157 to move up one spot and selected QB Jonathan James McCarthy at pick #10. Not satisfied, KAM/KOC and company traded picks #23, #167, and 2025 picks in the 3rd and 4th rounds for pick #17, where they drafted Edge Rusher Dallas Turner.
Draft Picks left for 2024:
Fourth round: 108th overall
Sixth round: 177th overall
Sixth round: 203th overall
Seventh round: 230th overall
Seventh round: 232nd overall
J.J. McCarthyโs Draft Profile and Measurements
- Height: 6โ2 1/2โณ
- Weight: 219 pounds
- Length: 31 5/8โณ
- Wingspan: 75 7/8โณ
- Hand: 9โณ
- Position: Quarterback
- School: Michigan
- Current Year: Junior
Chad Henne was drafted in the 2008 NFL Draft. Jake Rudock was selected in 2016. If the eight-year pattern holds, McCarthy will be Michiganโs next QB selection in the 2024 NFL Draft cycle.
Michigan passers have always naturally had a high standard to meet ever since Tom Brady emerged as an all-time great at the NFL level. Itโs important never to helmet scout, but looking at McCarthyโs physical ability, he could be the next Wolverines QB to earn a chance as an NFL starter.
McCarthy signed with Michigan as a high four-star recruit and saw action as a true freshman while sharing reps with Cade McNamara.
In 2022, McCarthy took the full-time starting job and completed 208 of 322 attempts (64.6%) for 2,719 yards, 22 touchdowns, and just five picks while adding 306 yards and five scores on the ground.
McCarthyโs production as an underclassman was extremely promising, and he exceeded it in 2023, completing 230 of 314 attempts (73.2%) for 2,851 yards, 22 touchdowns, and four picks.
Over that two-year span, McCarthy went 27-1 as a starter, won two Big Ten Championships, and helped lead his Wolverines to the CFB National Championship game in 2023.
It goes without saying that McCarthy has wins and losses on his side. NFL evaluators who value โwinnersโ at the collegiate level will have McCarthy near the top of their board, and his talent is undeniable.
At the NFL Combine, McCarthy participated in throwing drills and showed off his easy velocity drive. Not only that, but he weighed in at a healthy 219 pounds โ over 10 pounds heavier than his college weight โ and he still put up a 6.82 three-cone time in the 96th percentile.
Whether itโs athleticism, arm talent, pedigree, youth, or collegiate success โ McCarthy checks every box he needs to check on the surface. But does he have the composite profile to break into Round 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft?
J.J. McCarthy Scouting Report
Strengths
- Has the whip-like velocity to fit throws past extremely tight coverage at all ranges.
- Can throw high-velocity ropes with little strain and has a crisp, right-angle release.
- Uses sidearm and obtuse underhand releases to protect throwing windows from threats.
- Superb athlete and creator with high-level speed, agility, and evasive explosiveness.
- Adaptable in the pocket and improved his poise and navigation in congestion in 2023.
- Can use short-area agility, flexibility, and burst to snake through tiny pocket creases.
- Generally has good aerial accuracy, routinely giving his receivers a chance to make plays.
- Can beautifully layer velocity and touch on seam throws to hit receivers in stride.
- Able to lead WRs low on tight intermediate crossers to negate looming contact threats.
- Mechanically sound QB with good hip rotation, level shoulders, and full energy channels.
- Has shown he can look off safeties and then take whatโs given in the short range.
- Flashes stellar anticipation and risk propensity on tight-window, middle-of-field throws.
- Able to work high to low on progressions, peel off vertical routes, and trigger on reads.
- Can quickly process velocity and leverage mismatches in the deep third, triggering early.
- Has good baseline competitive toughness as a runner and is willing to finish forward.
Weaknesses
- Weight at Michigan was lighter than average, which contributed to lacking play strength.
- Pressure threats can cause him to drop his eyes, hesitate, and pause mid-release.
- Sometimes inexplicably drifts into pressure and can be more disciplined with positioning.
- Will sometimes predetermine throws and force passes against tight coverage.
- Occasionally fails to see looming LBs on short passes, calling field vision into question.
- Struggles to process deep crossing patterns and diagnose proper throw trajectories.
- At times, forces ill-advised throws in collapsing situations when he should throw it away.
- Can be more consistent using controlled shoulder tilt and layering to add loft on throws.
- Situational precision, while good, can be more consistent over the middle of the field.
- On occasion, tugs his release too wide and pushes passes too far above his targets.
- Can still be a bit uncontrolled and frantic at the top of his drop, affecting base width.
- Benefitted from his surroundings at Michigan and wasnโt always asked to elevate team.
Dallas Turnerโs Draft Profile and Measurements
- Height: 6โ4โณ
- Weight: 252
- Position: EDGE
- School: Alabama
- Current Year: Junior
In some ways, the NFL is incredibly complicated. But sometimes things are simple. If you were a consensus five-star recruit and produced at a high level in college, there is very little stopping you from being a first-round pick.
Turner was a consensus five-star recruit. He was the top EDGE in the country for 247Sports and Rivals. He was a top-20 recruit on each of the big three national sites and a top-five player in the state of Florida.
He came out of the gates at Alabama incredibly hot, posting 8.5 sacks and 10 total tackles for loss as a freshman. That stat line earned him Freshman All-American honors from 247Sports and FWAA, and he was also a freshman coachโs pick within the conference.
The 2022 season brought a dip in production for Turner, but his high-end traits were still very noticeable opposite future No. 3 overall pick Will Anderson Jr.
Then, in 2023, Turner helped fill the void left by Andersonโs departure, becoming a consistent disruptive presence.
A newly anointed team captain, Turner logged 10 sacks, 14.5 total tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles in a 2023 campaign that earned him First-Team All-American and All-SEC honors. Now, heโs ready to make his long-anticipated leap to the NFL and show the professional world he belongs.
Turnerโs Scouting Report
Strengths
- Sports a lean, flexible frame with elite proportional length and reach.
- Has an uncommon combination of hyper-elite explosiveness and bend capacity.
- With his brisk long-strider explosiveness, can teleport to the apex off the snap.
- Can leverage elite burst and length into devastating bouts of raw power capacity.
- Grew more consistent at leveraging base and attacking with power exertions in 2023.
- Improved play strength in 2023, which showed with his ability to fight through blocks.
- Has the searing lateral agility to work across face in the blink of an eye and invade gaps.
- Loose flexibility allows him to naturally acquire leverage and pad level on the attack.
- Has shown he can dip under the corner while sustaining long-strider acceleration.
- Can shrink his surface area and pinch incredibly tight angles as a finesse rusher.
- Improved at leveraging his base on speed rushes and using initial angles to bait tackles.
- Flashes high-end rush nuance with euro-steps, cross-chops, swipes, and manipulation.
- Alert, active run defender who knows how to establish half-man relationships.
- Has overwhelming pursuit range with his elite long-strider athleticism, reach, and motor.
- With speed, length, and fluidity, has the versatility to disguise rushes and play coverage.
Weaknesses
- Despite exceptional length and wingspan, lacks high-end mass and frame density.
- Still improving at stacking secondary moves off of initial power exertions.
- Can improve precision with his off hand while attacking the torso with long-arms.
- Reaction speed on counters against sliding protection looks can be more consistent.
- Can be more consistent with pass-rush plan and execution on a down-to-down basis.
- Sometimes diverts upright when stunting laterally, which can sap at base load.
- Still has room to improve lower-body strength to prevent run game displacement.
- Leaner frame can impact sturdiness and balance against power in the run game.
- Sometimes flushes out of outside gaps too early, opening outside running lanes.
- Is most natural out of two-point stances, which may limit even-front appeal.
Current Draft Projection and Summary
Turner grades out as a borderline top-10 and blue-chip prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft, and heโs the top EDGE prospect on my board. A young, productive player with an all-encompassing physical profile and a steep upward track, there isnโt much preventing Turner from being an early first-round pick.
Turner came into the 2023 spring period in the 240-pound range, but he played the 2023 campaign at a listed 252 pounds, and his play strength looked visibly improved. Not only that, but Turner retained his freakish explosiveness, speed, and bend. And in little moments, we got to see what his ceiling could look like.
Even with hand-usage improvements, Turner can still strive for more consistency, both with his pass-rushing plan and overall hand precision. But Turner has one of the most complete physical pallets of any EDGE over the past five years, and it yields astronomical upside.
With his blistering speed and gravity-defying bend, Turner can eviscerate tackles at the apex, and his finesse element also enables him to rush from alignment-versatile looks, stunt freely, and stress blocking angles across the front. But with his elite length, Turner also boasts a menacing power component.
NFL NEWS
The Atlanta Falcons took Penix at #8 overall despite having signed Kirk Cousins to contract that all but guarantees he will be on the roster for at least 2, if not 3 years and includes a full no trade clause. An absolutely dumbfounding draft pick. It just makes no sense, if you’re going to sign Kirk to a market level contract, why wouldn’t you invest in draft picks to win now instead of 3 years from now?
Question of the Day
How you feeling after last night?

Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
Well, we still have four rounds and 157 picks to go before the draft officially concludes today. The Vikings currently hold five selections going into the final rounds, so it promises to be a busy day for them. So far the Vikings have had a great draft. Guess we’ll see if there are any special players left out there, we can dig up. Think we could still use some defensive help.
I like CBs Hart or Tampa with our next pick, possibly DT Dorlue but not sure he fits our scheme.
Tโwolves up 3-0
Shocking.
Maybe they really are a good team.
I think they are a good team.
I still expect them to fail
Twins Win.
All of you rejoice in whatever manner is closest to your heart.
I think there were only 9 players (all on Defense) that I really liked taken in the 2nd round.
Maybe there is hope for some of them falling to the early 4 so we might get one.
Any chance the Vikings move up to the end of the 3rd round? Maybe there’s someone they like there. They have 6 more picks.
Possible. They have certainly shown willingness to trade up so far this year.
They also have some more 2025 picks to trade away.
Shit, I’m wrong. They only have 5 picks left. One 4th, two 6ths, and two 7sts.
The *aints seem to have drafted something called Kool-Aid McKinstry. Wonder if his parents like him?
Always have to wonder… what were they thinking… when you see names like that.
From experience in my younger days, if you name a girl “Mercedes”, she will become a stripper.
It’s a nickname man.
So the NFL draft tracker posts his nickname, like officially?
They did with Chop Robinson – real first name is Demeioun
I think Cadillac Williams’ first name was actually Cadillac.
Carnellโฆ.
Dammit
I can see why that dude needed a shorter nickname.
His real first name is Ga’Quincy
I read this commentary, trying to explain why the Falcons took Penix at #8:
Part of the rationale for the selection is that the Falcons feared they would not be bad enough to select a QB high in the draft during Cousins tenure. So this would be their last opportunity to go after a top QB, for many years to come.
That’s a stretch…
Have they not had a press conference after the 1st round to discuss their picks/players?
Seems a pretty normal thing to do and an explanation would be required at that point.
Yes, and the GM explained why he made the choice.
They were drunk?
Ya know, you just might have something there GF.
Anyone watching the draft?
Following it online.
‘By following’ it I mean I have a webpage opened and I check it occasionally.
I see Sweat went at #38, I thought that drop down into the 90s due to his DUI was BS.
We’re watching. Not many people over tonight since we have no picks on the board.
If Penix is pissed about having to wait for 3 years, at age 24, does he refuse to sign a contract and re enter the draft in 2025?
He wonโt have to wait 3 years.
Evidently KC called Penix after the was selected by Atlanta and the two made ‘nice’ at each other.
https://sports.yahoo.com/michael-penix-jr-said-kirk-cousins-called-him-after-falcons-surprising-draft-selection-214128089.html
Yeah, but thatโs just doing nice PR things.
Iโm sure he signs, but if he and his agent want to force an issue, they could.
Florio now complaining the Falcons werenโt honest with Kirko.
Payback is a bitch isnt it Kirk?
I had heard that The Falcons had mentioned that a QB was possible for the draft but more of a ‘project type’ and not the Top 10 pick that they got.
So more of a misunderstanding? Or keeping it quiet on the sly until it was a done deal?
Kirkโs contract is essentially guaranteed for 3 years with a NTC, which does make it incredibly strange for Atlanta to take a WB at 8
Yup, who would have thought that they’d pick a WB in that spot! ๐
Waterboy?
Wing Back?
Warmer of Bench?
Wolves @ Suns late. Bad vibes.
Iโve been surprised that wolves won the first two.
Watched the first two games. Not bothering staying up late. The NBA for sure wants 5-6 games at least. I expect the puppies to lose tonight.
Also, already way more excited about football now.
Team has hope since Kirk gone.
๐ ๐คฃ
Too Funny.
Mostly because it is true.
You guys are still talking about the draft? Old news…
I watch thinking maybe we could discuss Kirk Cousins a little bit.
honestly i feel bad for kirk.
he has only ever looked out for his family, worked hard in order to put food on the table for them.
now he might be out of a job in 2 years.
has anyone started a gofundme for him?
Heโll be fine
how do you even know? how can you even be sure?!?
He has his grandmotherโs old van – heโll always have a place to live.
Heโll be okay.
Plus he still has those residual payments from his Pizza Ranch commercials.
Heard DE and KFEY are putting something together for him.
Itโs not about the money, but how it is set up.
What happened to your incredible sense of humor????
I donโt.
As an experiment some day I am going to sit in my car and every time a see a person moving around, I’m going to honk my horn and honk my horn until they move out of sight. The same for any vehicle that drives by and maybe for even the random squirrel. When the cops show up I’m going to ask them why it is ok for dogs to do it but not me?
Deep thoughts by VP…
i didn’t know much about turner, so i pulled up some highlights.
the video i watched, in the first 5 plays he had like 2 or 3 hip drop tackles and then a really bad facemask sack (sacked the qb by ripping his facemask)
he’s gonna be a bust
Laughing… way to go Freezey…
gotta even out all the highs here
Mjolnir, not sure why a band named Tombstoner would remind me of you and something you might like haha
10 mins rd 1. What is it tonight, same?
Just looked it’s 10m round 1 and 7m round 2, 5m for 3-6 and 4m in round 7.
Better, seems all you do rd1 is watch a clock tick down.
Are any of you going to watch Rounds 2 and 3 of the Draft, tonight?
I don’t expect we’ll see any action from the Vikes, tonight.
Unless we trade Darnold to the Falcons… ๐ lol
I’ll have a webpage open to keep track.
Something interesting might happen.
More interesting who will fall to 4th round so we can pounce.
Same here
I don’t watch the draft because it’s just so over the top, from a hype machine perspective.
The hype does get very annoying.
I followed it online so I could skip the BS and commercials.
I think that’s the best method. Hate the endless commentary and blather from the “on air talent”.
I’d be interested in trades, about it.
Nope. Iโll track on my phone.
Hoping to get that call from a team in the need of a 45 year old Norwegian with bad knees and terrible field visionโฆ..
After RD 1 my knowledge of college players is zero.
The Falcaholic site is entertaining today.
Fun times…..
I can only imagine.
Viking fans might need to take occasional breaks from there to keep their faces from getting too sore from all of the smiling.
Aaaaaand now weโre in a tornado warningโฆ.
Just rewatched Twister the other night.
You be careful out there.
Saw that movie in the theater in high school (and several times since)
The theater experience was awesomeโฆ.. because it was also the very first time I smoked pot.
I smashed a large popcorn and soda during the previewsโฆ.
Saw on the news your area was going to be a hotspot for weather. I have a co-worker heading to Lincoln to tailgate the spring game. Stay safe man. You should go to Amon Amarth next Friday… see ya there!
Yup. Spring game will be a zoo. Jeff Dunham is in town along too.
I live about 15 blocks from downtown in โNear Southโ used to be called Alphabet Town.
Gamedays are great days to sit on the porch if the weather permits and people watch. Street Iโm on gets a lot of foot and public transfer traffic. Weโre pretty close to a few inpatient rehab centers too – lots to see.
You mentioned the Omaha show some time ago – check out the old market when youโre there. Lots of cool bars and restaurants.
Thereโs way too much traffic on the interstate in North Dakota.
I need to find a place that is more sparsely populated
Kirk Cousinsโs Lombardi room?
Ouch
Savage.
This is like saying a yo mamma joke to your sibling… Kirk’s Lombardi room has exactly as many trophies as the Vikings Lombardi trophy case.
so farโฆโฆ๐
Good luck with that.
Especially if youโre posting on Skoloholics while drivingโฆ..
No, I stopped to do an inspection. The drive over to Jamestown was extremely busy.
My next stop is in Wishek. That will be an amazing drive, you can go a half hour without seeing another person.
Good thing these days.
Amen, brother.
That sounds awesome. People suck. Dogs rule.
Laughing… try the Beltway around Washington D.C. for fun.
Been there, done that. No thanks. Drove that beast in an 18 wheeler many a time.
You changed your icon. I wasn’t looking close and thought you were GA Skol. I was wondering what he was doing in ND.
i’m still really happy that the one player i had hoped we would draft, for the last 2 months……we drafted.
feels like a big win for me.
‘feels like a big win for me’
Me too. Which makes me wary of the inevitable Viking looming loss.
Just my Minn sports fan PTSD lurking.
He got happy?
Gay? With that outfit maybe Gay?
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
and doing so without mortgaging the futureโฆ.
Itโs a huge win.
Double huge landing the best defender in the draft. B-Flo has to be ecstatic. Turner is a weapon he can unleash all over the place.
triple huge win: it made me happy
it is all about me. go me!
So now we have AJ, JJ, TJ, JA and TreyJ on our offense.
It’s too bad we lost KJ Osborn….
you for got about CJ
Somebody say J?
Really? Sounds like a smokescreen, to me.
Vikings Reportedly Tried Trading Up in NFL Draft for LSU WR Malik Nabers (msn.com)
Mike Florio?
All he does is……
Could you imagine Kirkโs reaction when they called him to tell him about the pick?
heโs probably as bewilder as we are.
Frick, frickety, frick, frick, Julie we’re moving again.
Kind of like Fred Flintstone mumbling when he is mad?
Reportedly was stunned.
Yup. Looked just like that.
Didn’t know Kirk had transitioned.
Not that there is anything wrong with that (now that he is no longer a Viking).
I wonder if he’s ever had this happen before where someone was drafted that is supposed to have way more upside than Kirk on the same team… If it did, I am sure that went and ended well.
aka RG3?
I think Edge was being facetiousโฆ..
Who Edge??
Now I have to look up ‘facetious’.
This Edge
I got that.
Was trying to say ‘Edge being facetious??’
I see what you meant now.
I wasn’t very clear.
We can split the blame.
holy shit, what a great line of replies
Who Mjolnir?
#grin
Oh good. I thought he was being sarcastic, iโm glad it wasnโt that
While you were out, we decided to ban sarcasm. Facetiousness is the only thing aloud.
‘Facetiousness is the only thing aloud.’
Sounds sarcastic.
Nope, it’s snarky.
Everyone was surprised, but this is a nothing burger for Cousins. Just like when Monde was selected and everybody was saying the same stuff… Cousins knows he is better than Penix, and he knows he’s the starter for the next several years. This is just drama pandering.
Big difference between a day 2 pick & a top 10 overall pick.
Well maybe… a rookie is a rookie GF. Do you really think Penix is going to be better than Cousins any time soon?
You forget as well, Cousins was a 4th round pick, and he replaced RGIII the second overall pick in the draft. RGIII and out as he became known.
Probably just like a Paul Allen botched call on a field goal, except it’s the draft announcement.
KAM gets an A+
So far
Um… what could he possibly do with late round picks to undo that? Draft all long snappers?
The Falcons. LOL
A real head scratcher. Thanks Falcons, I guess, that move profoundly changed the dynamic of the 1st round. Kirk is not a happy camper right now.
Kirk couldn’t care less about Penix. He is probably mostly wondering why the team didn’t move out on Dallas Turner, since the offense is set.
anyone else notice feel like there’s a resemblance?
crazy…….JJ does look ALOT like uma thurman. what the heckkkk
I didn’t realize that was Uma until you mentioned it. Now I can see it.
Great movie.
Fun Fact: St. Cloud State University grad John Hawkes has a small role as a pizza delivery boy in this movie.
He later went on to be nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Teardrop Dolly in โWinterโs Boneโ – one of my favorite movies.
He kind of reminds me of this guy as well.
Fist movie I ever walked out of before it was finished.
I love that movie.
itโs absolute trash, but in the best kind of way.
Plus it has Tim Rossovich in a small role as an injured has-been gas station attendant.
‘Fist Movie’??
Maybe a fight movie? Rocky Series? Otherwise……
Never mind, I don’t think I want to know.
lol. Sorry. First movie I ever walked out before it was finished.
There are many that I stop watching while streaming, but that one I went to a theater, paid for the ticket, and left early. So bad.
Thats ok,
It is just Calif PTSD.

We got a winner boys!!!
Watching press conferences and stuff right now, very happy with how last night turned out. Nice haul, Kumbaya Krew.
Very impressed with KAMs performance last night.
Quite the turn around for him, very happy to see it.
What’s really reassuring is it isn’t like KAM changed things up from previous drafts, this is who he is and no matter who the GM is sometimes things work out in your favor and sometimes they don’t.
More like he now understands the Draft process better and how the other GMs will react.
All that helps him navigate and get the best results for us.
Yeah, after a couple of seasons of building relationships with the other GMs should definitely help. I think he kinda got had first draft, by division rivals no less
Agreed,
Hopefully this shows his learning curve is complete.
I wasn’t sure about Queasy based on his draft performance so far, but he played it pretty well last night. It’s nice to have hope for the team, again.
So is it 2025 or 2026 when jj gets his first ring?
He already got one for the NCAA Championship.
Plus 3 B10 Championships.
Plus a couple in high school, State and ‘consensus high school football national championship‘.
He will be running out of fingers soon.
You planning his wedding?
He does have a fiancรฉ.
I expect that she is in charge of that.
I already called 2027.
SuperBowl after the 2026 season.
JJ’s third season.
https://x.com/TPPSkol/status/1783727391472279722?s=19
SKOL JJ!!
Best qb and best defensive player in the draft are Vikings? Somebody pinch me this can’t be real.
He said pinch not punch.
#grin
Oops. My bad. Sucks getting old.
‘getting old’
Welcome to the club.
It actually said punch first and I fixed it so I’ll allow it.
Yeah. I thought so.
Most updated sites had both of them rated in the top 10 headed into the draft.
I am not upset they didn’t get Maye, dang happy they didn’t pay thru the nose for JJ.
That was my expression, last night, as well. Dallas Turner, a beast!
I expected ATL to take him at 8 if he were there, he was the highest rated edge player by all accounts. ATL taking Penix at 8 changed the entire trajectory of the draft for the Vikings.
When the Vikes win an Owl in the next 5 years, a thank you card to ATL’s GM is in order… Doing us all sorts of favors!
He owed ‘all sorts of favors’ after the tampering.
Not that I minded as KC was in reality gone at that point anyway.
That’s my favorite part about all this, the tampering didn’t change anything lol.
But if they want to give us something because it happened I will allow it.
Right? Rules are rules…
ATL showing just how terrible they are at making decisions.
Really going to be fun to watch the crowd chanting for Penix when spaz does his thing.
Like set franchise records…
Same. I thought they might even take Murphy there.
https://x.com/vikingzfanpage/status/1783735401376542893?s=19
Did KOC somehow dip into Mjolnir’s stash? ๐
He does look like he was hot boxing a utility closet and just sat down in the clip.
Yup. Its real. Iโm still stunned at the Penix pick.
And I canโt believe we landed Dallas Turner.
I clicked on an article on Yahoo (my first mistake) and the person writing the article gave us a B+ for JJ and a B+ for Turner. He must have been a Packer fan. What a loser.
I saw that,
Also saw some loser gave us a C+ for JJ.
Haters going to hate.
Turner.Saw someone mention injuries for dropping a bit. All these idiots would draft in a heartbeat.
I saw somewhere a D+ for Turner
That is crazy.
He was the highest rated Defensive Player in the draft, rated top 10.
2nd one taken after Murphy II who I usually took in Mocks only because I felt we needed a DT more than a Edge.
Unless they didn’t like the Trade Up? But no way am I going to 2nd guess Coach Flo.
*3rd defense player taken
Latu
Murphy
Turner
Good catch.
Thank you, missed him somehow.
Must have been high on what KAM was cooking.
Me too
I suspect you were high on more than just KAMs cooking.

๐จโs QotD:
Do we believe that McCarthy can win the QB1 job in camp? Or is his debut more likely to be caused by injury/ineptitude from Sam D at some point in the year?
Iโll hang up and listen.
Like Bill Belichick said last night, “You start him when you think he is ready”.
He’s sneaky athletic. 3:28
Barring a camp injury, I don’t think he starts the season.
So I don’t think he can win the QB1 job.
If he’s ready he starts, if he’s not he doesn’t. My guess is Darnold starts the season and JJ finishes it, who knows though.
I think Darnold is the starter until either JJ is ready or Sam I am plays very poorly.
Per his Wikipedia page JJ was offered a Collage Scholarship in 8th grade, Cool.
‘In eighth grade, he received a scholarship offer to play football at Iowa State from head coach Matt Campbell.’
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._J._McCarthy
Had a pretty impressive HS career and ended up at IMG Academy. 34-2 as a starter in HS. 27-1 as a starter in college.
Guy is accustomed to winning.
He seems to have his head on straight and willing to work for it.
Much better than I ever was, a credit to his parents.
It may be hype but Iโve heard stories that after he committed to Michigan he was calling fellow recruits and telling them not to come to Ann Arbor if they werenโt serious about winning. Appears to be pretty driven to succeed.
Yeah, I think he told them if you want to go to college to drink and chase girls this isn’t the place for you. He also led three group of players that could have weren’t to the NFL last year but all agreed to stay to win the natty. Seems like a really grounded leader and he’s a winner.
Heard that as well.
Says quite a bit about his mindset if true.
Does he work on Tuesday’s?
Hold my beer – Vikings
lolโฆ.

Sometimes it all becomes a blur and I can’t remember what I have told to who. So if I already mentioned this here, remember I’m old.
Earlier this week Zeph tested MRD negative.
We are very excited about this. This is great for at least a couple of reasons. First – No disease. Second – he needed to be to this stage to go forward with the bone marrow transplant. He will be boarding the medi-vac jet on Monday with his mom where they will fly to Madison, WI and be an immediate inpatient at the Children’s Hospital. The bone marrow transplant is tentatively scheduled for May 16th.
Awesome news VP !
Good news! Prayers for more!
Thumbs up for you VP!
VP… indeed, this is awesome news. Bone marrow transplants are painful, but this is great he is ready for this work now. Sending prayers your way.
That’s so great!
Very good, happy to read this. Hang in there guys!
Moving in the right direction, still praying for a complete recovery and long life ahead.
Good to hear, hopefully things continue improving
Very good news.
Thank you for the update.
Good news, thanks for the update. Hope things continue to improve.
Haven’t heard and maybe already covered. Were vikes worried someone was talking to jets to jump them and take qb JJ?
Not sure.
I think the assumption was that Denver might have been in play.
And/Or Vegas.
Nice to know more war room talk. Pretty hush stuff.
Tom Pelissero on GMFB just said of the Cousins/Penix situation:
โItโs like cheating on your wife on your honeymoonโฆ.โ
Also reporting that KC was on stage at the Falcons draft party last night hyping up other players and then 90 minutes later got the call from Falcons brass that they were drafting Penix. And was stunned by it.
Wow.
Wouldn’t doubt Penix will be a situational qb this season, just my thoughts. I’d feel sorry for KC but i don’t. $$$$$$!
Could be.
What about when Kirko has his annual 3-5 game shitshow and then hearing the calls for Penix to play?
I’d love it. Falcons have easiest schedule in league so doubting they can F it up. Would be interesting.
That’s just it. Kirk never had a real threat at QB2 that could push for his job. Things will get interesting if he doesn’t perform at a high level.
LOL !!
I do wonder if he now has buyer’s remorse.
I think that’s an overreaction. Cousins is going to start the next several years, and likely be a top 5 QB in the league.
Probably.
He’s got $100 million guaranteed.
Still wonder if he has a little frustration/anger inside going on.
I’d bet he does. Won’t change the next 2 years though.
๐
Damn, that is cold, and funny af
That’s funny!
But, hey, at least the Bears are shooting their shots. Three swings at QB in seven years.
And how many coaches?
Joke:
The next time you dislike your life, remember, it’s all about perspective. I have a friend who reads two to three books a week, works out twice a day, has no financial worries and has people who want to have sex with him all the time.
๏ปฟAnd yet he constantly complains about how much he hates prison…
Look at KOCs face haha. So good
The Emotion in Turners voice when he said ‘I got you’.
Cool stuff.
The video hit me with a past visual as a face of a young Bud Grant.
Today I am remembering the time the NFL pregame did a segment on Joey Harrington playing the piano. It was early in the season. Joey was trying so hard to be a positive, hardworking leader of a dismal Lions team.
It didn’t work. They won like five games.
The Lions better be inviting all of those guys like Harrington to the Super Bowl if they make it this year.
I have always said I will cheer for the Lions if they are in the Playoffs and Vikes aren’t.
I like that they got a CB.
I hope they take the division again this season and make another playoff run. Campbell just needs to take down the aggression a smidge. Not a lot. I love his aggression. But a smidge needs to be removed from it.
I am celebrating the draft by skipping work.
I like that they traded up twice to hunt guys. I don’t have a problem with trading back. Sometimes it is fine. It’s just nice to see a bit more aggression.
No idea if JJ will pan out, but it is fun to have an unknown quantity regardless. We’ve been dead in the water for a long time. Time to start swimming…somewhere.
Translation: I have a massive hangover so I’m skipping work.
I actually do have a headache. Someone within a three block radius must have cracked a beer last night. That is about all it takes to give me a hangover.
I’m a lightweight. I admit it. Saves me a lot of pain.
I almost called in, but I am already gone next Friday for a concert… I have plenty of leave time and could have, should have… damnit
Iโm also taking today off. Itโs raining here and will continue raining thru Sunday. Canโt do yard work. Cant take Goose anywhere.
I think Iโll watch JJ and Turner highlights. And watch Oppenheimer
My QOTD, who starts game 1?
Darnold
Mullens
JJ (guess he just turned 21 in Jan)
Likely resting starters being 16-0 at that point.
Mullens knows the system and should be able to compete very well for the starting position, but, I’ll bet that KOC chooses Darnold to be the starter. KOC thinks he can rehab/restart Darnold’s career.
Pretty sure Darnold will be the starter in September.
I also think Mullens will be released.
Darnold/JJ/Hall could be the QB room.
Camp should be interesting. Never thought i’d say that.
Either Mullens or Darnold will start. After their first 3 interception game, JJ will take over.
Darnold, SIT JJ a year. Just fucking commit to it and do it. Unless it becomes like a Russ situation where it’s so obvious he has to take over, just sit his ass.
Thought i’d see a reaction from JJ on ESPN, guess he was at home.
Twitter showed a reaction, he was happy.
He had his own draft party. On the NFL Network, they showed a shot of him being very excited when he was chosen by the Vikings. This comment assumed that you are talking about JJ the draft pick, not JJ the receiver.
Corrrect
JJ said he wanted to be will all people who helped him and there would not have been enough room for that at Draft HQ in Detroit.
Nice. Seems like a smart kid.
Good stuff!
SKOL JJ!
On a non-football note, I had to cancel my dentist cleaning appointment today. Because they are short on dental hygienists, I have been put on the will call list. It takes about 3 years to become a dental hygienist and in the small market that I am in, they make between $31 to $50+ per hour. Some people need just a little ambition and they could stop freeloading and make an actual living.
Unfortunately, you can’t even buy a house on that salary anymore.
So it’s get free stuff or work hard.
In the small market that I live in, $30+ in fantastic. Some people need to just get off their butts. Plus, in bigger markets a dental hygienist makes a lot more.
I don’t live there, but $60,000 a year isn’t enough to buy a house here.
Around here if you are making $60k plus have a spouse/partner that also works, you are doing alright. Plus, you don’t need to buy a house to take care of your own self and stop being a freeloader.
Agreed.
Today’s work ethic among gen z or whatever they are…
True there weren’t any free loaders before Biden. When Trump was in office every homeless bum got a job. I can’t believe people don’t realize that absolute fact that this meme points out. It’s so simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not wanting to start a political argument, but unemployment was at an all time low for most demographics and the lowest it has been in 50 years, under Trump. So yeah, the meme sticks.
^^^^POFS!
Love the picks! Now lets go resign Risner and bring in Howard! Off-season complete.
And sign JJ…..
And Darrisawโฆ.
I think Darrisaw has fifth year option in 2025.
But yeah, 2026 and beyond if he continues to be very good.
Next year for Darrisaw
I think we will hear about his new deal any day now, hopefully.
if you told me we would get a POSSIBLE franchise QB (the guy i have been asking for all offseason) AND possibly the best defensive player in the draft, without having to give up MAJOR capital at all, before the draft, i would have told you i didn’t think it was possible….
good job, KAM, now try to trade up for Koolaid and LET’S GO
Plenty of Kool Aid floating around right now. Weโre drowning in it. And if theyโre gonna go get anyone, make it DB Cooperโฆ.
The guy with the money that jumped out of the plane?
The guy from Iowa named Cooper that plays DBโฆ
Funny that you use his first name like that.
But you seem to enjoy it so I will allow it.
News Radio autorec!
That was a funny show. RIP Phil Hartman.
One of my favorites from that era. It did go downhill after Phil’s death.
We only have 8 picks currently over the next two years.
But I liked KAM having the balls to do it.
Plus the comp picks we get next year.
And our first pick next year is going to be No. 32, so we are just screwed.
LOL.
But the glorious season would definitely overshadow that screwing.
Technically the 32nd pick, but it will be the 31st player because ATL will have forfeited their pick for tampering.
